Opis:
We propose an edge adaptive digital image denoising and restoration scheme based on space dependent regularization. Traditional gradient based schemes use an edge map computed from gradients alone to drive the regularization. This may lead to the oversmoothing of the input image, and noise along edges can be amplified. To avoid these drawbacks, we make use of a multiscale descriptor given by a contextual edge detector obtained from local variances. Using a smooth transition from the computed edges, the proposed scheme removes noise in flat regions and preserves edges without oscillations. By incorporating a space dependent adaptive regularization parameter, image smoothing is driven along probable edges and not across them. The well-posedness of the corresponding minimization problem is proved in the space of functions of bounded variation. The corresponding gradient descent scheme is implemented and further numerical results illustrate the advantages of using the adaptive parameter in the regularization scheme. Compared with similar edge preserving regularization schemes, the proposed adaptive weight based scheme provides a better multiscale edge map, which in turn produces better restoration.

Opis:
Self-adaptation is a key feature of evolutionary algorithms (EAs). Although EAs have been used successfully to solve a wide variety of problems, the performance of this technique depends heavily on the selection of the EA parameters. Moreover, the process of setting such parameters is considered a time-consuming task. Several research works have tried to deal with this problem; however, the construction of algorithms letting the parameters adapt themselves to the problem is a critical and open problem of EAs. This work proposes a novel ensemble machine learning method that is able to learn rules, solve problems in a parallel way and adapt parameters used by its components. A self-adaptive ensemble machine consists of simultaneously working extended classifier systems (XCSs). The proposed ensemble machine may be treated as a meta classifier system. A new self-adaptive XCS-based ensemble machine was compared with two other XCS-based ensembles in relation to one-step binary problems: Multiplexer, One Counts, Hidden Parity, and randomly generated Boolean functions, in a noisy version as well. Results of the experiments have shown the ability of the model to adapt the mutation rate and the tournament size. The results are analyzed in detail.

The most prevalent P2P application today is file sha ring, both among scientific users and the general public. Afundamental process in file sharing systems is the search mechanism. The unstructured nature of real-world largescale complex systems poses a challenge to the search me thods, because global routing and directory services are impractical to implement. This paper presents a new antcolony algorithm, Adaptive Neighboring-Ant Search (AdaNAS), for the semantic query routing problem (SQRP) in a P2P network. The proposed algorithm incor porates an adaptive control parameter tuning technique for runtime estimation of the time-to-live (TTL) of the ants. AdaNAS uses three strategies that take advantage of the local environment: learning, characterization, and explo ration. Two classical learning rules are used to gain ex perience on past performance using three new learning functions based on the distance traveled and the resources found by the ants. The experimental results show that the AdaNAS algorithm outperforms the NAS algorithm where the TTLvalue is not tuned at runtime.

Opis:
In this paper, for multiple different chaotic systems with fully unknown parameters, a novel synchronization scheme called ‘modified function projective multi-lag generalized compound synchronization’ is put forward. As an advantage of the new method, not only the addition and subtraction, but also the multiplication of multiple chaotic systems are taken into consideration. This makes the signal hidden channels more abundant and the signal hidden methods more flexible. By virtue of finite-time stability theory and an adaptive control technique, a finite-time adaptive control scheme is established to realize the finite-time synchronization and to properly evaluate the unknown parameters. A detailed theoretical derivation and a specific numerical simulation demonstrate the feasibility and validity of the advanced scheme.

Opis:
The present article reviews the application of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithms to optimize a phrasing model, which splits any text into linguistically-motivated phrases. In terms of its functionality, this phrasing model is equivalent to a shallow parser. The phrasing model combines attractive and repulsive forces between neighbouring words in a sentence to determine which segmentation points are required. The extrapolation of phrases in the specific application is aimed towards the automatic translation of unconstrained text from a source language to a target language via a phrase-based system, and thus the phrasing needs to be accurate and consistent to the training data. Experimental results indicate that PSO is effective in optimising the weights of the proposed parser system, using two different variants, namely sPSO and AdPSO. These variants result in statistically significant improvements over earlier phrasing results. An analysis of the experimental results leads to a proposed modification in the PSO algorithm, to prevent the swarm from stagnation, by improving the handling of the velocity component of particles. This modification results in more effective training sequences where the search for new solutions is extended in comparison to the basic PSO algorithm. As a consequence, further improvements are achieved in the accuracy of the phrasing module.

Opis:
We consider the problem of joint estimation of states and some constant parameters for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. This class contains systems that could be transformed into a quasi-LPV (linear parameter varying) polytopic model in the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) form. Such systems could have unmeasured premise variables, a case usually overlooked in the observer design literature. We assert that, for such systems in discrete-time, the current literature lacks design strategies for joint state and parameter estimation. To this end, we adapt the existing literature on continuous-time linear systems for joint state and time-varying parameter estimation. We first develop the discrete-time version of this result for linear systems. A Lyapunov approach is used to illustrate stability, and bounds for the estimation error are obtained via the bounded real lemma. We use this result to achieve our objective for a design procedure for a class of nonlinear systems with constant parameters. This results in less conservative conditions and a simplified design procedure. A basic waste water treatment plant simulation example is discussed to illustrate the design procedure.

Opis:
In this paper, we are dealing with the problem of directly regulating unknown multivariable affine in the control nonlinear systems and its robustness analysis. The method employs a new Neuro-Fuzzy Dynamical System definition, which uses the concept of Fuzzy Systems (FS) operating in conjunction with High Order Neural Networks. In this way the unknown plant is modeled by a fuzzy - recurrent high order neural network structure (F-RHONN), which is of the known structure considering the neglected nonlinearities. The development is combined with a sensitivity analysis of the closed loop in the presence of modeling imperfections and provides a comprehensive and rigorous analysis showing that our adaptive regulator can guarantee the convergence of states to zero or at least uniform ultimate boundedness of all signals in the closed loop when a not-necessarily-known modeling error is applied. The existence and boundedness of the control signal is always assured by employing a method of parameter “Hopping” and “Modified Hopping”, which appears in the weight updating laws. Simulations illustrate the potency of the method showing that by following the proposed procedure one can obtain asymptotic regulation despite the presence of modeling errors. Comparisons are also made to simple recurrent high order neural network (RHONN) controllers, showing that our approach is superior to the case of simple RHONN’s.

Equation-defined non-linear functional elements are important building blocks in the development of compact semiconductor device models. Current trends in compact device modelling suggest widespread acceptance among the modeling community of Verilog-A, for semiconductor device specification, model exchange and circuit simulation. This paper outlines techniques for the development of adaptive EPFL-EKV long and short channel MOS models which stress user selectable model features and diagnostic capabilities. Adaptive EPFL-EKV nMOS models based on Verilog-A and Modelica are introduced and their performance compared with simulation data obtained using the "Quite universal circuit simulator" (Qucs), SPICE and the Modelica simulation environment.
