Opis:
The article proposes an adaptive algorithm that generates all object signals, including those for which measurements are not performed due to the difficulties associated with on-line measurements. The algorithm is modeled on the idea of the Kalman filter using its equation, however, the selection of gains is optimized in a different way, i.e. the constant values depend on the adopted ranges of adaptation errors. Moreover, the knowledge of the statistics of all noise signals is not imposed and there is no linearity constraint. This approach allowed to reduce the complexity of calculations. This algorithm can be used in real-time systems to generate signals of objects described by non-linear differential equations and it is universal, which allows it to be used for various objects. In the conducted research, on the example of a biochemically contaminated river, only easily measurable signals were used to generated the object signals, and in addition, in the case of absence some measurements, the functioning of the algorithm did not destabilize.

Opis:
In order to effectively monitor the wear and predict the life of cylinder liner, a nonlinear degradation model with multi-source uncertainty based on Wiener process is established to evaluate the remaining useful life (RUL) of cylinder liner wear. Due to complex service performance of cylinder liner, the uncertainty of operational environment and working conditions of cylinder liner wear are considered into the model by a random function. The probability density function (PDF) formula of RUL is derived, and the maximum likelihood estimation method is adopted to estimate the unknown parameters of PDF. Considering the evaluated parameters as the initial values, the model parameters are updated adaptively, and an adaptive PDF is obtained. Furthermore, the proposed model is compared with two classical degradation models. The results show that the proposed model has a good performance for predicting the life, and the error is within 5%. The method can provide a reference for condition monitoring of cylinder liner wear.

The article presents the algorithm that enables adaptive determination of the amplification coefficient in the filter equation provided by Kalman. The method makes use of an estimation error, which was defined for this purpose, and its derivative to determine the direction of correction changes of the gain vector. This eliminates the necessity to solve Riccati equation, which causes reduction of the method computational complexity. The experimental studies carried out using the proposed approach relate to the estimation of state coordinates describing river pollution using the BOD (biochemical oxygen demand) and DO (dissolved oxygen) indicators). The acquired results indicate that the suggested method does better estimations than the Kalman filter. Two indicators were used to measure the quality of estimates: the Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) and the Mean Percentage Error (MPE).

Opis:
This article presents a new development of an indirect stator flux-oriented controller for sensorless speed induction motor drive utilising instantaneous and steady-state values, respectively, of a fictitious resistance symbolised as R_f. The dimension of the fictitious quantity, in this context, is the ohm, which is the difference between the stator d- and q-axis fictitious resistances. However, from the measurement of the stator voltage and currents of the machine, two independent resistance estimators are built. Therefore, the first is considered as a reference model of the induction machine (IM), and the second is considered as an adjustable model. Subsequently, the error between the states of the two models is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimation of the speed, for the adjustable model. Furthermore, the structure of the proposed estimator is free from stator resistance and eliminates the requirement of any flux computation. All the detailed simulation study is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink to validate the proposed method and to highlight the robustness and the stability of the proposed model reference adaptive system estimator.

A sensorless indirect stator-flux-oriented control (ISFOC) induction motor drive at very low frequencies is presented herein. The model reference adaptive system (MRAS) scheme is used to estimate the speed and the rotor resistance simultaneously. However, the error between the reference and the adjustable models, which are developed in the stationary stator reference frame, is used to drive a suitable adaptation mechanism that generates the estimates of speed and the rotor resistance from the stator voltage and the machine current measurements. The stator flux components in the stationary reference frame are estimated through a pure integration of the back electro-motive force (EMF) of the machine. When the machine is operated at low speed, the pure integration of the back EMF introduces an error in flux estimation which affects the performance torque and speed control. To overcome this problem, pure integration is replaced with a programmable cascaded low-pass filter (PCLPF). The stability analysis method of the MRAS estimator is verified in order to show the robustness of the rotor resistance variations. Experimental results are presented to prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed scheme of sensorless ISFOC induction motor drive.

Opis:
Performance of standard Direction of Arrival (DOA) estimation techniques degraded under real-time signal conditions. The classical algorithms are Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC), and Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT). There are many signal conditions hamper on its performance, such as closely spaced and coherent signals caused due to the multipath propagations of signals results in a decrease of the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the received signal. In this paper, a novel DOA estimation technique named CW-PCA MUSIC is proposed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to threshold the nearby correlated wavelet coefficients of Dual-Tree Complex Wavelet transform (DTCWT) for denoising the signals before applying to MUSIC algorithm. The proposed technique improves the detection performance under closely spaced, and coherent signals with relatively low SNR conditions. Also, this method requires fewer snapshots, and less antenna array elements compared with standard MUSIC and wavelet-based DOA estimation algorithms.

Opis:
We consider the problem of joint estimation of states and some constant parameters for a class of nonlinear discrete-time systems. This class contains systems that could be transformed into a quasi-LPV (linear parameter varying) polytopic model in the Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) form. Such systems could have unmeasured premise variables, a case usually overlooked in the observer design literature. We assert that, for such systems in discrete-time, the current literature lacks design strategies for joint state and parameter estimation. To this end, we adapt the existing literature on continuous-time linear systems for joint state and time-varying parameter estimation. We first develop the discrete-time version of this result for linear systems. A Lyapunov approach is used to illustrate stability, and bounds for the estimation error are obtained via the bounded real lemma. We use this result to achieve our objective for a design procedure for a class of nonlinear systems with constant parameters. This results in less conservative conditions and a simplified design procedure. A basic waste water treatment plant simulation example is discussed to illustrate the design procedure.

Opis:
Improving the accuracy of forecasting is crucial but complex in the clothing industry, especially for new products, with the lack of historical data and a wide range of factors affecting demand. Previous studies more concentrate on sales forecasting rather than demand forecasting, and the variables affecting demand remained to be optimized. In this study, a two-stage intelligent retail forecasting system is designed for new clothing products. In the first stage, demand is estimated with original sales data considering stock-out. The adaptive neuro fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) is introduced into the second stage to forecast demand. Meanwhile a data selection process is presented due to the limited data of new products. The empirical data are from a Canadian fast-fashion company. The results reveal the relationship between demand and sales, demonstrate the necessity of integrating the demand estimation process into a forecasting system, and show that the ANFIS-based forecasting system outperforms the traditional ANN technique.
Opis:
It is a well-known problem of milling machines, that waste heat from motors, friction effects on guides and also the milling process itself greatly affect the positioning accuracy and thus the production quality. An economic and energy-efficient method of correcting this thermo-elastic positioning error is to gather sensor data from the machine tool and the process and to use that information to predict and correct the resulting tool center point displacement using high dimensional characteristic diagrams. The size of these characteristic diagrams depends on the number of input variables (sensors) and the fineness of the discretization of the grid. While the number of sensors can usually not be reduced without affecting the quality of the prediction, it is often possible to minimize the size of characteristic diagrams through the use of adaptive grid refinement. This ensures that the finest grid sections correspond with the load cases that have the largest local gradients. Through such adaptive refinement, it is possible to reduce storage capacity and computation time without significant loss of precision. The aim of this article is to examine, test and compare different methods of adaptive grid refinement. For this, simulation data from a machine tool is used.

Opis:
Fault input channels represent a major challenge for observer design for fault estimation. Most works in this field assume that faults enter in such a way that the transfer functions between these faults and a number of measured outputs are strictly positive real (SPR), that is, the observer matching condition is satisfied. This paper presents a systematic approach to adaptive observer design for joint estimation of the state and faults when the SPR requirement is not verified. The proposed method deals with a class of Lipschitz nonlinear systems subjected to piecewise constant multiplicative faults. The novelty of the proposed approach is that it uses a rank condition similar to the observer matching condition to construct the adaptation law used to obtain fault estimates. The problem of finding the adaptive observer matrices is formulated as a Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) optimization problem. The proposed scheme is tested on the nonlinear model of a single link flexible joint robot system.

The aim of the article is to present a non-parametric kernel density estimation method as a tool used for empirical verification of the regional convergence hypothesis, including convergence of clubs. It is explained how kernel density estimation complements other methods applied to verify the phenomenon of convergence. The empirical part shows an application of the non-parametric density estimation to the analysis of regional convergence of educational achievements of Polish pupils, measured by the average results of the mathematical and natural science part of the lower-secondary school leaving exams on the level of municipalities in years 2002—2013. The results of the analysis indicate the existence of regional convergence of exam results for Polish municipalities. In case of the analysis for three-yearly periods convergence of clubs was observed — the municipalities with lowest exam results constitute a separate club of convergence.

Opis:
A systematic fault tolerant control (FTC) scheme based on fault estimation for a quadrotor actuator, which integrates normal control, active and passive FTC and fault parking is proposed in this paper. Firstly, an adaptive Thau observer (ATO) is presented to estimate the quadrotor rotor fault magnitudes, and then faults with different magnitudes and time-varying natures are rated into corresponding fault severity levels based on the pre-defined fault-tolerant boundaries. Secondly, a systematic FTC strategy which can coordinate various FTC methods is designed to compensate for failures depending on the fault types and severity levels. Unlike former stand-alone passive FTC or active FTC, our proposed FTC scheme can compensate for faults in a way of condition-based maintenance (CBM), and especially consider the fatal failures that traditional FTC techniques cannot accommodate to avoid the crashing of UAVs. Finally, various simulations are carried out to show the performance and effectiveness of the proposed method.
