The paper starts with the definition of the technical problem and formulation of its mathematical model. This model is then solved numerically and the whole methodology is illustrated by a typical example. It is shown that unlike the classical devices the above actuator exhibits high holding force and low consumption of energy.

The main goal of this paper is to present results of investigations of the Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) actuator applied in a current sensitive switch. The SMA muscle wire actuates the electric micro switch, breaking the electrical circuit. The prototype stand of the switch, automatically breaking the circuit when overcurrent appears, was designed. The stand consists of a prototype switch construction and a measuring system, allowing for various investigations. The measurement methodology and selected results of the performed experiments are also presented. Finally, the authors try to answer the following question: is it possible to use the SMA actuator as a main drive in a current sensing switch?

W artykule przedstawiono sposoby modelowania dwuwirnikowej turbiny wiatrowej z wykorzystaniem technik Obliczeniowej Mechaniki Płynów. Omówiono uproszczone metody modelowania Actuator Disc i Actuator Line Method oraz aspekty związane z dokładnym odwzorowaniem turbiny na siatce obliczeniowej. Zaprezentowano przykładowe wyniki obliczeń turbiny dwuwirnikowej złożonej z wirników NREL o mocy nominalnej 5 MW każdy. Do wykonania badań symulacyjnych wykorzystano metodę Actuator Line Method. Zaprezentowane wyniki symulacji potwierdziły zwiększenie wartości współczynnika wykorzystania energii wiatru dla rozpatrywanej konstrukcji turbiny wiatrowej.
In the paper modeling and simulating methods applicable for the Counter Rotating Wind Turbine have been presented. The methods described in paper are based on Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques. An actuator methods, namely Actuator Line (ALM) and Actuator Disk (ADM) have been introduced. These methods do not require to explicitly represent the rotor. Beside of that calculated aerodynamic forces are projected onto computational domain in actuator points distributed on line (ALM) or disk surface (ADM). Aspects regarding direct rotor modeling e.g. rotor-fitted grid have been discussed as well. Case study of ALM use has been performed. Studied CRWT consisted of NREL 5MW rotors located half a diameter from each other. Rotors were exactly counter rotating with angular velocity of 9,115 rpm. Calculation were performed in OpenFOAM CDF solver. The LES code solved the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations over grid with 11,6 mln elements. The simulation was performed in unsteady conditions with 0,03 s time step and total time of 210 s. In comparison purposes simulation of SRWT was performed as well. Obtained results confirmed that CRWT is more efficient than SRWT and about 20% of additional power can be extracted from a wind energy.

The paper presents a new control strategy for active vehicle suspensions using electrohydraulic actuators based on Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy modelling technique. As the electrohydraulic actuator dynamics is highly nonlinear, the T-S fuzzy modelling technique using the idea of "sector nonlinearity" is applied to exactly represent the nonlinear dynamics of electrohydraulic actuator in a denned region at first. Then, by means of parallel distributed compensation (PDC) scheme and Lyapunov method, a fuzzy HOO controller is designed for the T-S fuzzy model to optimise the suspension ride comfort performance, considering actuator input voltage saturation problem. The sufficient conditions for the existence of such a controller are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). The advantage of this new control strategy for electro-hydraulic active suspensions is that it directly aims at optimising suspension performance with guaranteeing the closed-loop system stability. Thus, two-loop control strategy, where the inner loop is used to make the electrohydraulic actuator tracking a desired force (pressure, or displacement, etc.), is not necessary. In addition, the controller is simple in structure compared to the adaptive control algorithms. A numerical example is used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. It is confirmed by the simulations that the designed controller can achieve better performance than the active suspension with optimal skyhook damper.

Modelling is considered to be an inherent part of design process of mechatronic devices and systems, in particular when solving problems of dynamics and accuracy of actuators and sensors. Mathematical software packages such as Matlab/Simulink are commonly used for this purpose. Engineers and designers who integrate mechanical components of devices under design, usually employ special computer software known as 3D CAD for creating three dimensional images. Typically it is used to generate technical drawings and layouts but its usability is more extensive. The paper presents ability of such software to support simulation where a linear stepping actuator is an example of a device under design.

It is proposed to place the actuators to maximize the mean value of energy transmitted from or dissipated by the actuators, while the sensor location should maximize the mean square value of system output, which also maximizes the signal-to-noise ratio. By using explicit expressions for controllability and observability grammians as well as modal energies, it is shown that the approaches based on the system responses to transient and persistent disturbances are closely related, and are equivalent for structures which damping is small and the natural frequencies of which are well spaced. The method of actuator and sensor optimal location via grammians was proposed and compared it with results given by the method of matrix norms.

Modern machine tools must achieve a high precision for a better surface texture and higher flexibility for wide range of machining requirements. To fulfill these requirements, a semi-active damping system for a new generation of machine tools is proposed. The new concept is partially based on the Amplified Piezo Actuators APA® from CEDRAT Technologies. With these actuators, the dynamic behavior (stiffness and damping) of structural body components of machine tools can be controlled and adjusted to the optimum parameters. To reduce the transfer of vibrations through the active elements, a viscoelastic material was used. This article presents test results performed on the APA® with viscoelastic material. A significant reduction of the vibrational amplitude at resonance frequency was observed with additional material. The optimized quantity of viscoelastic material reduces the full stroke of the actuator only by 10 percent. At the same time, the viscoelastic material has red the tests performed on the machine tool showed significant surface texture improvement with use of the amplified piezoelectric actuator.

The paper presents a phenomenon of directional change in the case of a LQR controller applied to multivariable plants with amplitude and rate constraints imposed on the control vector, as well as the impact of the latter on control performance, with the indirect observation of the windup phenomenon effect via frequency of consecutive resaturations. The interplay of directional change of the computed control vector with control performance has been thoroughly investigated, and it is a result of the presence of constraints imposed on the applied control vector for different ratios of the number of control inputs to plant outputs. The impact of the directional change phenomenon on the control performance (and also on the windup phenomenon) has been defined, stating that performance deterioration is not tightly coupled with preservation of direction of the computed control vector. This conjecture has been supported by numerous simulation results for different types of plants with different LQR controller parameters.

Piezoelectric actuators are widely used in micromanipulation tasks such as atomic force microscopy and cell manipulation. However, the hysteresis nonlinearity and the creep reduce their fidelity and cause difficulties in the micromanipulation control procedure. Besides, variation of temperature and external loads could change the model parameters identified for the piezo actuator. In this paper, a novel feedforward-feedback controller is proposed. The modified Prandtl-Ishlinskii model is utilized to linearize the actuator hysteresis in feedforward scheme and a sliding mode based impedance control with perturbation estimation is used to cancel out the thermal and external load disturbances in feedback scheme. The efficiency of the proposed controller is verified by experiments.

The electromechanical actuator (EMA) model is presented with the methods for identifying its design parameters. The actuator is a part of the system for flap deployment on the commercial transport airplane. The differential equations with the feedback control describe behaviour of the actuator deflection. There are two concepts of drive system simultaneously considered: a high torque/low speed (HT/LS) and a geared low torque/high speed (LT/HS). For parameter identification in both cases the Maximum Likelihood (ML) method with two minimisation algorithms: linearized Gauss-Newton and Levenberg-Marquardt is applied. Both approaches for each of two design solutions were effective, while tested on hypothetical data.

This paper deals with electric compensation servo system which serves as an upgrade for existing turbocharger vacuum pressure regulation, particularly for low-volume engines. Proposed servosystem is suitable for variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) or variable nozzle turbocharger (VNT). Servo system comprises from control unit which is attached to the signal conditioner and to the microprocessor. The microprocessor controls the servo drive through the output amplifier and servo drive is mechanically connected to the turbocharger. Advantage of this upgrade is in better response to torque requirements from driver, especially in low engine speed.
W pracy przedstawiono możliwość wymiany standardowego siłownika próżniowego dla siłownika o zmiennej dyszy / geometrii za pomocą elektrycznego serwomechanizmu za pomocą mikroprocesora. Korzystanie z tego serwosu w nowym algorytmie sterowania zmniejsza emisje z silnika, zwiększa moc silnika i eliminuje siłownik podciśnieniowy. Inną zaletą tego systemu jest wyeliminowanie źródła ujemnego ciśnienia z systemu turbodoładowania (proponowany serwoster jest zasilany standardową siecią 12V). Jedyną wadą proponowanego elektrycznego serwosysu jest konieczność kalibracji pomiędzy systemem sterowania (mikroprocesorem) a turbosprężarką.

Streszczenie W pracy przedstawiono metodę linearyzacji modelu matematycznego układu hydraulicznego połączonego z ramieniem manipulatora. Układ zamodelowano w dwóch postaciach: w postaci równań różniczkowych, oraz modelu quasi-liniowego. Uzyskany model uproszczony poddano weryfikacji z modelem dokładnym. Model taki może być wykorzystany w procesach identyfikacji metodą najmniejszych kwadratów, która jest jedną z najbardziej efektywnych metod identyfikacji. Drugim obszarem zastosowań może być projektowanie układów regulacji.
The paper presents the method of linearization of a hydraulic actuator system connected to a manipulator arm. Fig. 1 shows a drive system supplied with constant pressure . The flow controller (2) acts as a throttling valve, while the hydraulic actuator (1) is a receiver. The constant pressure is provided by the pump (3). The arm-actuator system presented in Fig. 2 is a one-dimensional model. In the analysis, the elements connecting the actuator to the arm are not taken into consideration. This way it is easier to determine the system dynamic properties. The method used in this study requires expanding the linear function in a Taylor series around the operating point and considering linear terms only. After linearization of the mathematical model of a manipulator connected to a hydraulic actuator, there was obtained a simplified model (7) representing well the real system model behaviour (1). The simplified model was compared with the accurate one. In the case of the second-order, quasi-linear model and the mathematical model of the hydraulic actuator system, both signals fully coincide (Fig. 6). That is why the simplification to such a form is justified. The hydraulic actuator system was designed in two forms: as differential equations(1) (accurate model), and as a quasi-linear model (10) (simplified one). The simplified model can be used for identification purposes using the least squares method, which is one of the most effective identification method. Another area of application can be design of control systems.
