Small river basins are complex self-regulatory systems, as well as indicators of the state of the environment due to the level of anthropogenic pressure. Since any changes in the regime of small rivers are reflected in the entire hydrographic chain, the problem of estimating the anthropogenic load on small rivers of Ukraine is relevant for modern hydrochemistry and hydroecology. The main sources of water pollution are industrial and domestic effluents, which increase the inflow of pesticides, heavy metal ions, etc. Aquatic ecosystems of small rivers are subject to intense mechanical and biochemical effects, and about 80% of pollutants are washed into water bodies. Water bodies located on the territory or near large cities and urban areas are particularly exposed to man-made pollution. In the territory of the Dniester river basin, natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but in modern conditions we observe an increase in the negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters. Hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, which are significantly saturated with oxygen in the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-cleaning of natural waters, are important to increase the efficiency of self-purification processes. Natural biological cleaning of pollutants in small rivers is highly effective due to the overgrowth of aquatic vegetation. The aim of the work was to establish the ability of the aquatic ecosystem of a small river to self-purify on the basis of hydrochemical indicators of water quality. The compliance with sanitary and hygienic requirements of hydrochemical indicators of Kolodnytsia river water of the right tributary of the Dniester was analyzed and possible regularities of their changes were established, as well as the main factors of anthropogenic impact on a small river and the possibility of laboratory modeling of such rivers. It was found that in the Kolodnytsia River the processes of self-cleaning are quite active, which are caused by the hydrological characteristics of the river and the presence of hydrodynamically active areas in the foothills of the basin. Therefore, at present there is no steady excess of pollutants relative to the MPC.

Poniższy artykuł zawiera treści związane ze znaczeniem zieleni w miastach, głównie wzdłuż ciągów komunikacyjnych. Podkreślono istotę sadzenia roślin oraz korzyści, jakie zieleń przynosi dla środowiska i człowieka. Przedstawiono wyniki badań przeprowadzonych na al. Wiśniowej we Wrocławiu, pod kątem wykorzystania dostępnej powierzchni biologicznie czynnej. Wyniki badań wykazały, że al. Wiśniowa jest mocno za- zieleniona, jednakże występuje wiele obszarów pokrytych wyłącznie trawą. Wzdłuż ulicy zaobserwowano brak zagospodarowania powierzchni biologicznie czynnej pod drzewami. Wykazano, że istotne jest wykorzystywanie każdej powierzchni biologicznie czynnej dostępnej w mieście w sposób przemyślany, w szczególności wzdłuż ciągów komunika- cyjnych będących źródłem liniowej emisji zanieczyszczeń, które wraz z emisją z pieców grzewczych i lokalnych kotłowni są główną przyczyną zanieczyszczeń powietrza w mieście.
In the age of concrete cities, it is important to manage space in sustainable way, meeting the needs of urban residents and the natural environment. Following article addresses issues associated with meaning of greenery in cities, primarily alongside traffic routes. The importance of planting crops, and benefits that greenery brings to the environment and mankind has been emphasized. Some functions of plants reduce human impact on the environment, which is important, considering necessity for cities to adapt to climate change. Removing greenery in cities is popular even though it has negative effects in the long run. Mature trees produce more oxygen than young trees and in combination with lower greenery create a barrier to noise, wind, and air pollution. Results of a research about utilization of available biologically active surfaces, carried out on Wiśniowa avenue in Wrocław have been presented. Existing development and levels of traffic noise has been researched. During site inventory, the condition of the plants was assessed. Results show that Wiśniowa avenue is highly populated by plants, nevertheless, there are many regions with just grass planted. Alongside the street a trend has been observed, biologically active surfaces under the trees weren’t landscaped properly. Sidewalks, bike paths, and parking lots are made of impervious materials, which reduce soaking of rainwater into the soil. Importance of deliberated utilization of all available biologically active regions in the city has been proven, especially alongside traffic routes, where we encounter immense air pollution. Lastly, solutions to improve the management of the biologically active area along streets including Wiśniowa avenue in Wrocław have been proposed.

This paper presents the process of a 3-step machining process involving pre-treatment, smoothing and polishing, placing the workpiece in different energy levels of the working load in a rotary-cascade container smoother, by moving it towards the radial direction of the working chamber of the smoother. Studies show the ability to control the course of pre-treatment, smoothing and finishing intensity, both in terms of process parameters and treatment time. Such a structure of the machining process, it also allows you to influence the structure geometry of the machined surfaces in successive stages of machining, and consequently on the final quality. The proposed organization and structure of the process allows for the creation of a new one surface treatment strategy.

In traditional industries, manual grinding and polishing technologies are still used predominantly. However, these procedures have the following limitations: excessive processing time, labor consumption, and product quality not guaranteed. To address the aforementioned limitations, this study utilizes the good adaptability of a robotic arm to develop a tool-holding grinding and polishing system with force control mechanisms. Specifically, off-the-shelf handheld grinder is selected and attached to the robotic arm by considering the size, weight, and processing cost of the stainless steel parts. In addition, for contact machining, the robotic arm is equipped with a force/torque sensor to ensure that the system is active compliant. According to the experimental results, the developed system can reduce the surface roughness of 304 stainless steel to 0.47 µm for flat surface and 0.76 µm for circular surface. Moreover, the processing trajectory is programmed in the CAD/CAM software simulation environment, which can lead to good results in collision detection and arm posture establishment.

Przedstawiono stanowisko badawcze do elektroerozyjnego obciągania elektrodą stacjonarną ściernic diamentowych ze spoiwem metalowym oraz wybrane wyniki badań porównawczych dotyczących oceny zdolności skrawnych ściernic po długotrwałych testach szlifowania i po obciąganiu elektroerozyjnym. Zdolności skrawne ściernic diamentowych oceniano na podstawie dwuparametrowej metody szlifowania wzorca zewnętrznego (termopary), którą określano temperaturę szlifowanego wzorca zewnętrznego oraz względną wydajność szlifowania wzorca. Przeprowadzone badania umożliwiły sprawdzenie przydatności elektroerozyjnego obciągania elektrodą stacjonarną do kształtowania zdolności skrawnych ściernic diamentowych ze spoiwem metalowym. Wyniki badań uzasadniają kontynuowanie prac nad doskonaleniem procesu tego sposobu obciągania ściernic, w szczególności nad ustaleniem racjonalnych warunków obciągania oraz adaptacji tego sposobu w warunkach przemysłowych
The paper presents a test stand for stationary electrode dressing of diamond grinding wheels with metal bond and selected results of comparative researches concerning estimation of cutting abilities of grinding wheels after long-lasting grinding tests and after electrode dressing. The cutting abilities of diamond grinding wheels were evaluated on the basis of the twoparameter method of external pattern grinding (thermocouple), which was used to determine the temperature of the external pattern being ground and the relative grinding efficiency of the pattern. The investigations made it possible to verify the usefulness of stationary electrode dressing for shaping the cutting capacity of metal-bonded diamond grinding wheels. The results of the research justify the continuation of work on the improvement of this method of dressing grinding wheels, in particular on the determination of rational dressing conditions and adaptation of this method in industrial conditions.

The paper describes an innovative idea of Thickness Noise Control (TNC) based on adoption of a flow control strategy (i.e. surface ventilation) for acoustic attenuation of helicopter rotor periodic noise. The TNC method is relying on incorporation of multiple cavities (closed by perforated panels and linked to low- and high-pressure reservoirs) located in a symmetrical manner at front and rear portions of the blade tip. The efficiency of the new approach is verified using a two-bladed model rotor of Purcell (untwisted variant of the blade of Bell UH-1H Iroquois helicopter) in low-thrust hover conditions. The results of numerical simulations, obtained with CFD solver (Spalart–Allmaras turbulence and Bohning–Doerffer transpiration models), indicate that in the near-field of the blade tip, both the amplitude and spectral contents of pressure impulses of emitted thickness noise are significantly improved. The TNC method, in the proposed unsteady mode of operation, turns out to be a suitable means of thickness noise reduction in forward flight. Moreover, it is demonstrated that by proper azimuthal activation the efficiency is almost unaltered, while the rotor torque penalty and required transpiration mass-flux are decreased by a factor of 3–5 compared to a steady arrangement.

Long-term surface mining and land cover/use changes have been evidenced to have a critical relationship. This study investigates the evolution of this relationship for Ptolemais (Northern Greece) coal mining area during the period 1990-2018. In this context, satellite images, Corine data, and mining maps were used. A relative spatial indicator (RSI) was adopted to describe the mineral land areas and ArcGIS tools to define the land cover and use changes. Furthermore, mine operation parameters were statistically analyzed concerning land cover/use areas. The study revealed that areas described as “mineral extraction sites” present a strong correlation with “non-irrigated arable land” and “transitional woodland”. From 1990 to 2018, the total forest area was increased by three times, mainly as a result of the dumping sites’ geometry. Additionally, the mine operation parameters are well correlated with the active mining area, and more specifically, there is a linear relationship between the stripping ratio and the ratio of lignite production to active mining area. In the general case, the calculated annual changing rate of land use types may contribute to the prediction of future land reclamation uses and, consequently, to land reclamation planning in due time.

It was established that in the territory of the Stryi river basin, the natural landscapes are maximally preserved in comparison with other regions of Western Ukraine, but under modern conditions an increase of negative anthropogenic impact on the quality of natural waters is observed. The hydrodynamic barriers or hydrodynamically active areas (HAA) of mountain rivers, characterized by a significant oxygen saturation of the water flow, which activates the processes of biochemical and biological self-purification of surface waters, are important for the efficiency of self-purification processes. In order to verify the results of theoretical and field research, an existing experimental setup was designed and improved. It provided the conditions for modeling the flow of mountain rivers in accordance with the laws of similarity theory and the principles of hydrodynamic modeling. On the basis of the results of field observations in the foothills of rivers, as well as regulatory and design documentation, the limits of the main operating factors were determined, namely the Freud number, flow depth and flow rate, which are decisive in studying the impact of HAA on flow self-cleaning processes. By changing the length of the tray section, the gullies and the waterfall niche of the real hydrodynamically active section were simulated, on which field experiments on the Tyshivnytsia River were conducted. In the studies, measurements were performed at different flow regimes, which simulated different hydrological parameters. In order to analyze the impact of HAA on self-cleaning processes, the flow was visualized using photography. The change in the structure of a stream of natural waters at passage of HAA was established. The high oxygen saturation of the river waters of the Stryi river basin is caused by the influence of HAA, which contribute to the purification of polluted waters from biological pollutants and other man-made pollutants and form the high quality of water resources in the region. A method of modeling and visualization of mountain rivers in the laboratory was developed.

Opis:
Surface active agents, also known as surfactants, are a group of chemical compounds that are used in various products of the chemical industry. These compounds are components of medicines, detergents, motor oils and many others. The multitude of uses of surfactants makes it important to know their aggregation behaviour in solution. There are many methods used to analyse surfactants behaviour in liquid phase. The choice of a particular technique usually depends on the chemical structure of the surfactant. An example of a method that is used in studies of ionic surfactants is conductometry. This technique allows to study the dependence of specific conductivity on surfactant concentration, enabling determination of critical micellar concentration (CMC). Capillary electrophoresis is another example of the method used to determine the critical micellar concentration. It allows to make measurements in conditions where other methods fail, including conductometric method. Surfactant solutions differ in viscosity, which changes with the appearance of micelles in solution. Measurement of marker compound migration time through surfactant solutions of various concentrations allow to determine critical micellar concentration. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) allows to study the thermal effects associated with the aggregation of surfactants into micelles. Based on the energy changes that occur during titration, the critical micellar concentration of surfactant can be precisely determined. ITC is very sensitive method, so basically it can be used to examine all types of surfactants. In addition, the ITC method allows to determine the thermodynamic parameters of the undergoing micellization process. The use of several measuring methods gives a more complete picture of the phenomena occurring in solutions. It allows to understand aggregation process more accurately. Therefore, CMC measurement are often made with the use of several complementary methods.

Wnętrza urbanistyczne istotnie wpływają na formowanie przestrzeni zurbanizowanej, a wespół z terenami biologicznie czynnymi (parki, skwery itp.) oddziałują na estetykę otoczenia i aktywność mieszkańców. W niniejszym artykule poddano badaniom teoretycznym, własnym oraz analizom, jaki wpływ ma forma wnętrz urbanistycznych na mikroklimat danej części obszaru miasta. Wyniki stały się punktem wyjścia do rozważań na temat wpływu powierzchni biologicznie czynnej na jakość mikroklimatu wnętrza urbanistycznego. Wysunięto tym samym przypuszczenie o możliwości jego kształtowania za pomocą różnorodnych materiałów, rozwiązań technicznych i technologicznych oraz możliwościach wprowadzenia zmian we współczesnym myśleniu o projektowaniu tych przestrzeni. W niniejszym artykule odniesiono się jednocześnie do współczesnych nam trendów urbanistycznych. Finalnie podjęto próbę wykazania, jakie przesłanki powinny kierować urbanistów w kształtowaniu wnętrz urbanistycznych w aspekcie poprawy klimatu zarówno w danym miejscu, jak i całej przestrzeni miejskiej.
Urban exteriors have a significant influence in the formation of urbanized space, affecting the quality of life of its residents. Together with biologically active areas (parks, squares etc.) they affect the aesthetics of the surroundings and the activity of the inhabitants. The article shows both theoretical and own research, as well as the impact of urban interior form on the microclimate of a given part of the city area, resulting in starting points for reflection on the impact of biologically active surface on the quality of urban interior microclimate. Thus, the assumption was made about the possibility of shaping it using various materials, technical and technological solutions and the possibilities of introducing changes in contemporary thinking about the design of these spaces. This article presents the results of research of the topic, referring to contemporary urban trends. The implementation was an attempt to show what premises should guide urban planners in shaping urban interiors in terms of improving the climate in a given place and the entire urban space.

The influence of SAS of different chemical nature on aggregate stability and bactericidal action of nano silver colloidal solutions is investigated. Colloidal solutions of silver were obtained by restoring the argentum nitrate agent in a neutral medium. With the help of spectrophotometric method, it has been proved that such solutions are characterized by high aggregate stability compared with the use of other traditional reducing agents. Anionic SAS (sodium dodecylsulfate and sulfanol) and nonionic SAS (OS-20) increase aggregate stability of nano silver solutions, while cationogenic SAS − alcamone promotes rapid coagulation and aggregation of nano silver particles. The study of bactericidal action of the solutions to the E.coli are showed that the nano silve colloidal solution with or without presence of OS-20 and alcamone completely inhibit the growth of colonies of E.coli, that is, it’s have high bactericidal properties.

Active surface reflectance in a UV/VIS/NIR range deserve special attention among remote sensing techniques due to the potential of information it carries. Data are diversified in terms of spatial, spectral and temporal resolution, resulting in differences in data comparison and collection of material that may be redundant. The aim of the study was to assess whether the use of high-resolution data in analysis of an intensively used meadow is justified. 116 images from Planet sensor were analysed, registered from 2016 to 2019. NDVI, EVI and GLI were calculated for all of the terms. Resampling of data was carried out, with the use of 30 m grid, prepared on the basis of 3 m Planet pixel. Data with different resolution was compared. Seasonal course of values was similar in all cases, values of chosen deciles were nearly the same, however, differences in minimum and maximum values were noted.  It was concluded that the use of high-resolution data is not advisable in the context of the spatial variability of seasonal vegetation indices in the case of a terrain with homogeneous land cover. Values of structurally simplified indices are less homogeneous than that of indicators consisting of a greater number of modifying factors.

Opis:
The paper presents the study results of the stability and heat storage capacity of paraffin-in-water phase change suspensions (PCSs) obtained by the homogenization of paraffin and water in the developed rotary hydrodynamic homogenizer. The optimal concentration of components for obtaining stable paraffin-in-water suspensions is found. It is shown that the stable PCSs in the form of pastes, gels, and liquids can be obtained depending on the concentration of water, paraffin, and the surface active agent (SAA) as well as its type. In addition, the scheme of the solar heating system with the heat storage tank where the PCS functions both as the heat transfer fluid and the heat storage media is presented. It is shown that the use of PCS in the domestic solar heating system allowed the heat storage capacity of the storage tank to be increased by 25% as a result of the high fusion heat of paraffin and the high value of the water specific heat capacity. The estimation of the saving rate from applying fluid PCS as a heat storage medium is also presented and discussed.

Opis:
Surfactants have been known to mankind since the dawn of time. They have been used primarily as washing and cleaning agents. However, today they are used much more often in many fields of industry. This work focuses on two areas of surfactants use, the agriculture and the food industry due to the direct relationship between these two issues. In agriculture, surfactants play a number of important roles. One of the problems of modem agriculture is the low efficiency of spraying, associated with the low absorption of liquid utility for plants. This problem is solved by surfactants, as demonstrated by the example of glyphosate and the organosilicon compound Silwet® L-77. Nowadays, substitutes for conventional surfactants are being sought. Compounds produced by microorganisms are under great interest of scientists. It has been shown that they are characterized by the lower toxicity as well as high biodegradability, while maintaining the characteristics and properties of synthetic compounds. Directly related to the agriculture, the food industry also often uses surfactants. In the production and processing of food surfactants play the role of such compounds as emulsifiers, stabilizers, additives improving the texture of products and increasing the durability of products. Sorbitan esters, e.g. sorbitan monolaurate, their ethoxylated derivatives, e.g. Polysorbate 20, as well as sucrose esters, e.g. sucrose monostearate, are readily used for this purpose. Great emphasis is placed on the safety of compounds used in the food industry. As in the case of agriculture, biosurfactants and compounds of natural origin are tested for use in the food industry. Their use is not limited to being ingredients of products. They can play a biocidal, as well as a protecting role against surface colonization by microorganisms.

Potrzeba wykonania prac opisanych w publikacji wynikała z obowiązującego rozporządzenia Parlamentu Europejskiego i Rady (WE) nr 1907/2006 REACH, regulującego kwestie stosowania chemikaliów poprzez ich rejestrację i ocenę oraz, w niektórych przypadkach, udzielanie zezwoleń i wprowadzanie ograniczeń obrotu. Spowodowało ono radykalną zmianę na rynku dostępnych środków, które mogą być użyte jako składniki płynów do hydraulicznego szczelinowania. Część firm, nie chcąc ponosić kosztów związanych z procedurą rejestracji chemikaliów w systemie, wycofała je z rynku europejskiego, z kolei w zamian za nie pojawiły się nowe produkty, bardziej przyjazne dla środowiska naturalnego. Środki chemiczne, które poddano badaniom w ramach niniejszej pracy, są zarejestrowane przez Europejską Agencję Chemikaliów, a więc mogą być wykorzystane do wykonywania zabiegów hydraulicznego szczelinowania na terenie Polski i Unii Europejskiej. Testy te obejmowały: laboratoryjne badania środków powierzchniowo czynnych wykonane za pomocą goniometru (napięcie powierzchniowe i kąt zwilżania) oraz badania środków do stabilizacji minerałów ilastych (testy czasu nasiąkliwości kapilarnej (CST) i pęcznienia próbki piaskowca kwarcowego). Dokonano analizy oddziaływania zmierzonych wartości napięcia powierzchniowego i kąta zwilżania na wielkość ciśnienia kapilarnego, które ma bezpośredni wpływ na odbiór cieczy po wykonanym zabiegu. Na tej podstawie w skład nowo opracowanych płynów szczelinujących włączono mikroemulsję w koncentracji 2 l/m3 . Natomiast pomiary czasu kapilarnej nasiąkliwości i badania pęcznienia wykazały, że spośród testowanych środków jedynie 2-proc. roztwór KCl efektywnie zmniejszał wartość pęcznienia próbki skały piaskowcowej. Kolejny etap badań miał na celu opracowanie składu płynów szczelinujących na podstawie m.in. testów kompatybilności oraz pomiarów właściwości reologicznych. Część eksperymentalną pracy zakończono przygotowaniem profili łamania lepkości opracowanych płynów szczelinujących w 4 temperaturach w zależności od zastosowanych koncentracji łamaczy utleniających. Wyniki badań po ewentualnych modyfikacjach mogą być wykorzystywane do projektowania zabiegów hydraulicznego szczelinowania w krajowym przemyśle naftowym.
The need to carry out the work described in the paper as a result of the implementation of the current European Parliament and Council Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 REACH concerning the use of chemicals, through their registration and evaluation and, in some cases, authorization and restriction on the marketing. It has caused a radical change of available agents in the market, that can be used as components of hydraulic fracturing fluids. Some companies which did not want to bear the costs of the procedure of registering chemicals in the system, withdrew them from the European market, in return for these chemical additives, new more environmentally friendly products have shown up. Chemicals that have been tested as part of this work are registered by the European Chemicals Agency so they can be used to perform hydraulic fracturing treatments in Poland and the European Union. These tests included: laboratory tests of surface active agents performed with a goniometer (surface tension and contact angle) and tests of clay control additives (capillary suction time measurements (CST) and swelling of a quartz sandstone sample). The impact of measured values of surface tension and contact angle on the capillary pressure was analyzed, which has a direct influence on the liquid flowback after the treatment. On this basis, the microemulsion at a concentration of 2 l/m3 was included in newly developed fracturing fluids. However, measurements of capillary suction time and swelling tests showed that only 2% KCl solution effectively reduced the swelling value of the sandstone sample. The next stage of the research was the development of fracturing fluid compositions based on, among others compatibility tests and measurements of rheological properties. The experimental part of the work was completed with the preparation of breaking profiles of developed fracturing fluids at 4 temperatures depending on the concentrations of oxidative breakers. The results of studies after possible modifications can be used to design hydraulic fracturing treatments in the domestic oil industry.
