Opis:
A global index of machines was developed to assess noise emitted by machines and to predict noise levels at workstations. The global index is a function of several partial indices: sound power index, index of distance between the workstation and the machine, radiation directivity index, impulse and impact noise index and noise spectrum index. Tests were carried out to determine values of the global index for engine-generator; the inversion method for determining sound power level was used. It required modelling each tested generator with one omnidirectional substitute source. The partial indices and the global index were simulated, too. The results of the tests confirmed the correctness of the simulations.

For the use of acoustic assessment of machinery, a global index of acoustic quality has been developed. Acoustic quality index is considered as a product of the following partial indices: sound power index, index of distance between the workstation and the machine, radiation directivity index, impulse and impact noise index and noise spectrum index. Each partial index always assumes positive value. If the value of global index does not exceed 1, the noise of the assessed machine will not exceed the admissible value of A-weighted sound pressure level at the workstation. Experimental tests were carried out in order to determine the values of global indices for a group of engine-generators, with the use of inversion method allowing for the determination of sound power level. The correctness of the determined values of indices was confirmed by the results of A-weighted sound pressure level measurements, at the hypothetically assumed workstations in simulated in situ conditions.

W artykule przedstawiono przykłady wykorzystania komputerowych metod symulacji zjawisk akustycznych w pracach projektowych, zmierzających do opracowania optymalnych sposobów ograniczenia hałasu na stanowisku pracy. Zastosowanie symulacji komputerowej daje możliwość opracowania strategii prac wyciszeniowych, która jest najkorzystniejsza pod kątem skuteczności akustycznej oraz opłacalności ekonomicznej.
This paper presents examples of using computer-based methods of acoustic simulation for optimal designing of noise reduction projects at the workplaces. Using of the acoustic simulations provides the opportunity to develop optimal strategies for noise reduction in terms of acoustic efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Zastosowanie symulacji komputerowej umożliwia kształtowanie optymalnych warunków wibroakustycznych środowiska przez odpowiednie planowanie budowy nowych lub przebudowy istniejących miast, układów komunikacyjnych, zakładów przemysłowych. Daje również możliwość oceny działania biernych środków redukcji hałasu (ekranów, obudów) na etapie ich projektowania, jak również umożliwia oszacowanie wpływu tych środków na klimat akustyczny badanych obiektów.
Usage of computer simulation enables creation of optimal wibroacoustic conditions of environment by right planning builds of new towns, communication systems, plants and pre-build existing ones. This usage also gives possibility of estimation of activity of passive noise control media (for example acoustic baffle) on a stage of their design and also enables estimation of influence of these items acoustic environment of investigated object.

Opis:
The paper discusses the acoustic variants of the phoneme /c/, together with the appriopriate articulatory intepretation and auditory perception assessment. The acoustic correlates and articulatory interpretation are based upon the theory of speech production introduced by G. Fant and developed by K. Stevens. The acoustic data for standard Polish provide evidence against describing the primary variant of /c/ as a postpalatal sound. The collected data clearly demonstrate that the place of articulation of /c/ sounds is further in the front part of palate, i.e. prepalatum. The same conclusion might be draw on cumulative data for dialectal varietes of Polish.

In the present paper, an acoustic description of the realizations of the /k/'s phoneme is presented for Slovak and Czech. The dialectally rooted variants of the examined languages were chosen since they give a more complete insight into articulatory habits of users than does the standard pronunciation. The acoustic data obtained from dialectally rooted variants of Slovak and Czech allow to deny statements about the lack of positional velar fronting in the context of (pre)palatal vocoids, which made Slovak and Czech distinct among Slavonics (the Slavonic languages).

The following article constitutes an attempt to solve the problem of the interpretation of results based on a comparison of measured values to permissible values. When exceeded limits are observed, the recipients of acoustic analyses (mainly non-specialists) are frequently uncertain as to how to interpret the results. At the moment, there is no unambiguous way of defining acceptable, alarming or unacceptable values of noise but an original indicator methodology, which allows a clear and easy interpretation of the results obtained, has been proposed. The suggested noise load factor (NLF), based on measurements of physical quantities, enables conducting a broader assessment of the nuisance of noise originating from railway vehicles.

Introduction: In this paper were verified the correlation between the results of the survey SNOT-20 and the results of the objective tests of nasal obstruction which are rhinomanometry and acoustic rhinometry before and after surgical treatment, such as septoplasty, septoconchoplasty, ethmoidectomy and septoethmoidectomy. Material and methods: The material used in this study was 233 patients diagnosed routinely in the Rhinomanometry Laboratory of the Department of Otolaryngology at the Medical University of Warsaw, reporting rhinological problems. Data were obtained from 70 women (31,4%) ranging in ages from 18 to 81 years of age and 153 men (68,6%) ranging in ages from 16 to 81 years of age. The researches presented in the study were made using the device RhinoMetrics SRE 2100 which combines the Rhinomanometer (RhinoStream) and Acoustic Rhinometer (RhinoScan) Interacoustics AS (Denmark). Survey SNOT-20 (Sino-Nasal Outcome Test-20) in Polish was completed by patients before surgery and during the postoperative control visits. Results: The calculated correlations between the objective parameter, which was the resistance to the flow of air through the nasal cavity , and the subjective feelings of respondents expressed in the survey SNOT-20 were generally weak, and statistical significance was achieved with respect to the first question survey (the severity of the nose obstruction) for all components of resistance flow. Discussion: The feeling of nasal obstruction is the most reproducible and reliable complaint reported by the patient with rhinological problems.

Opis:
The intensive development of sport shooting and the significant increase in the number of people using sport and recreational shooting ranges also increases the risk of hearing damage to shooters, due to exposure to impulse noise from the shots of firearms. This article discusses the methodology for assessing shooters’ exposure to noise and identifies and extensively discusses possible ways to minimise this exposure. It then describes a research experiment carried out to measure and calculate the effectiveness of noise reduction by means of acoustic silencers when shooting with typical weapons in the most popular sporting and hunting calibres. The experiment also included firing tests with subsonic ammunition. On this basis, conclusions were drawn regarding the possibility of reducing impulse noise during shooting and the possibility of eliminating the risk of hearing damage.

Opis:
The hazard assessment of ultrasonic noise impact on human body at workplaces presents an open problem; it is not satisfactorily solved comparing the fund of knowledge and standard regulations established for the case of audible noise. Some research carried on in the Central Institute of Labour Protection - National Research Institute, Poland, are essential for elaboration reliable procedures for the assessment of ultrasonic noise hazard and they have to bring to modernization and creation the corresponding standards in this field. In the presentation, some problems related to measurement procedures applied as well as to the interpretation of results essential for hazard assessment of ultrasonic noise impact on human body will be considered; in particular such cases where some procedures elaborated for audible noise assessment are being transferred to apply in the ultrasonic range without taking fully into account some specific aspects of the high frequency components of the noise.

The paper analyzes occupational risk at selected metal cutting machine tool stands (turning, milling, drilling and grinding stands) and presents a set of recommendations formulated to minimize hazards at the above mentioned stands. The assessment is based on the analysis that allowed for selecting the best method of occupational risk assessment, measurements, observations, interviews and conclusions drawn from the obtained results. Occupational risk assessment forms were devised, what allowed for selecting appropriate action to increase the safety of selected machinery operators. The guidelines were assessed in terms of their practical implementation and expected utilitarian results.

The paper formulates the need of the modification of currently applied solutions of uncertainty assessments in vibroacoustic investigations, including the ones which use the convention rules developed by 7 international metrological organisations and described in the ‘Guide to the Uncertainty’. Reservations versus currently used solutions are given in the hereby paper. It directs attention toward assumptions limiting the likelihood assessment of uncertainties of the obtained acoustic results. It draws the possible ways of the problem solutions and related to them methods. It presents the need of connecting belonging to them algorithms with not classic statistical methods, allowing taking into account departures from generally used assumptions in presently applied solutions of uncertainty estimations of acoustic investigations results. The paper presents new research trends related to the uncertainty assessment of the environment acoustic hazards control. The presented results and their conclusions can constitute the base for wider verification of the correctness of the currently applied procedures of acoustic measurements assessment and related to them estimations of errors levels of the uncertainty estimation of acoustic investigations results.

W pracy przedstawiono ocenę i analizę hałasu na najgłośniejszych stanowiskach pracy w Elektrowni PAK SA w Koninie. Zaproponowano koncepcje zmniejszenia tego hałasu przez adaptację akustyczną hal, zainstalowanie ekranów stałych w pomieszczeniu obrabiarek do metali, zainstalowanie przeźroczystych i dźwiękoizolacyjnych ekranów przenośnych, dźwiękoizolacyjnych przegród stacjonarnych, zainstalowanie gumowych (samoprzylepnych) kożuchów na dużych obiektach naprawianych. Oszacowano przewidywane efekty ekologiczne i ekonomiczne po ich realizacji.
Evaluation and analysis of the loudest noise in the Power Station PAK SA workplace in Konin are presented in the paper. The following methods for noise reduction were proposed: acoustic adaptation of halls, installation of screens in a room in which permanent metal-cutting took place, installation of transparent and portable sound insulating screens, sound insulation fixed compartments and installation of rubber (self-adhesive) coats for large buildings under repair. Estimation of expected environmental and economic effects of their implementation is also presented.
