    In this sketch I am paying the voice back to the university so that it gives her opinion about the personal uniqueness after 1944. There is no doubts, that the Catholic University of Lublin – different ideologically from reality surrounding him the Polish People’s Republic – already even if in this respect stood out relating to contemporary academic world. The Polish People’s Republic and the Catholic University of Lublin were different objects, being worn away in Poland ruling by communists.

    Formacja laikatu w środowisku uniwersyteckim wpisuje się w służebną rolę Kościoła. Jej celem jest pomoc w odkrywaniu drogi do świętości poprzez realizację powołania. Aspekt duchowy, doktrynalny, znajomość nauki społecznej Kościoła i przygotowanie do apostolstwa to ważne wymiary tej działalności. W środowisku uniwersyteckim dochodzi do spotkania kultury i wiary. Konieczność formacji laikatu w środowisku uniwersyteckim wynika ze specyfiki tego środowiska oraz dokonujących się przemian społeczno-gospodarczych. 
    Formation of the laity in academic world is a part of the subservient role of the Church. Its purpose is to help to discover the path to holiness through fulfilling the calling. Its spiritual and doctrinal aspect, the knowledge of the Church’s social doctrine and the preparation for the apostleship are very important aspects of its activity. Culture and faith meet in the university environment. The need for the formation of the laity in the academic world results from the specificity of this environment and the ongoing socio-economic changes.

    Przedwojenne kadry akademickie w Polsce, znacznie uszczuplone przez II wojnę światową, nie były w stanie w pełni zaspokoić potrzeb szybko rozrastającego się szkolnictwa wyższego po 1945 roku. W tej sytuacji z pomocą przyszli przedwojenni nauczyciele szkół średnich. Artykuł omawia tę sytuację na przykładzie matematyki,przytaczając losy ponad czterdziestu takich osób i na tej podstawie formułując parę uwag ogólnych.
     Pre-war academic staff in Poland, seriously curtailed during World War II, could not meet satisfactorily post-war demands of quickly expanding academic schools. Help has been provided by the pre-war school teachers. The article describes the situation in the field of mathematics, offering fates of over 40 school teachers of mathematics who joined universities and polytechnics, and giving some general remarks.

    Im Beitrag wird das Ziel verfolgt, das Bedürfnis der Analyse des Phänomens der (Un)Höflichkeit im akademischen Bereich zu begründen und die akademische Welt auf neue Forschungsperspektiven aufmerksam zu machen. Die Hypothese, die dem Vorhaben zugrunde liegt, dass die genannte Problematik einer näheren Untersuchung bedarf, ergibt sich aus der Annahme, dass der sich in anderen Segmenten des gesellschaftlichen Lebens vollziehende Wandel in der Höflichkeitsauffassung mittlerweile in die akademische Welt eingedrungen ist. Im Hintergrund der Analyse stehen Erwägungen zur gesellschaftlichen Rolle der Hochschule von heute sowie der aktuelle wissenschaftliche Diskurs, der viele Belege der Normverletzungen liefert, die sowohl in der mündlichen als auch in der schriftlichen Kommunikation im akademischen Raum vorkommen. Zum Schluss wird die These bestätigt, dass eine ausführliche Untersuchung neuer Erscheinungen unbedingt notwendig ist, damit das hohe Prestige der hochschulischen Institutionen nicht allmählich abgebaut wird.
    The paper presents the scientific foundation of the necessity to analyze the phenomenon of (im)politeness in the academic world as well as to interest the academia in the new research perspectives in this particular field. The hypothesis, which the undertaking of further examination of the issue is based on, results from the assumption that the changes within the understanding of the concept of politeness that are momentarily taking place in various segments of the social life, have now reached the academic environment as well. The theoretical background of the intended analysis are the reflections about the social role of the university nowadays as well as the current scientific discourse, which provides the first empirical evidence of the standards violations, that occur in both oral and written academic communication. The paper ends with the conclusion that a thorough research of the new politeness phenomena is absolutely necessary, otherwise the high prestige of the academic institutions will start to fade out.
    Celem artykułu jest uzasadnienie potrzeby zbadania zagadnienia (nie)grzeczności w środowisku akademickim, jak również zwrócenie uwagi środowiska naukowego na nowe perspektywy badawcze w tym zakresie. Tezą leżącą u podstaw bliższego zainteresowania wspomnianą problematyką jest założenie, że zmiany w zakresie pojmowania pojęcia grzeczności, jakie zachodzą w różnych obszarach życia społecznego, objęły w ostatnim czasie również świat akademicki. Tło dla zamierzonej analizy stanowią rozważania na temat współczesnej roli szkolnictwa wyższego, jak również aktualny dyskurs naukowy, który dostarcza pierwszych empirycznych dowodów na zachodzące naruszanie norm grzecznościowych w komunikacji akademickiej, zarówno ustnej, jak i pisemnej. Wnioski płynące z analizy potwierdzają tezę, że konieczne jest przeprowadzenie szeroko zakrojonych badań w zakresie zmian grzecznościowych w celu ratowania ginącego prestiżu instytucji akademickich.

    The discussion about the position of Polish sociology at the background of world sociology organized by the Sociological Commission of the Polish Academy of Sciences revealed significant differences among the participating scholars. The pessimistic view about the state of Polish sociology and its functioning within world sociology was expressed by Edmund Mokrzycki and Jerzy Szacki, who pointed out at both institutional and political difficulties (e.g. isolation of Polish sociology from world sociology, limitation of contacts) as well as theoretical predicaments of the discipline (e.g. the fact that the change of dominant paradigm in Western sociology had passed virtually unnoticed by Polish sociological theory). Piotr Sztompka expressed the concern that insufficient number of Polish sociological research was being published in renowned international scholarly publishing houses, at the same time he envisaged the concrete measures for the improve of the current situation. The state of Polish sociology was assessed rather differently by Kazimierz Doktór, who concentrated on the relations between Polish sociology and sociologies of socialist countries. First, he emphasized the good positions of Polish sociology in this group, and second he urged to promote this co-operation further while ceasing to mimic Western sociology. Jerzy Wiatr suggested that pessimistic evaluations of Polish sociology were a misperception. Although he was critical of Polish sociology for the particularity of its empirical research and medium standards of daily work, he optimistically placed its achievements in the long-term perspective and saw the development of theory of socialist society as its unique and original contribution to world sociology.

    Zastanawiającym jest fakt, że w dotychczasowej historii uczelnia nie doczekała się pracy poświęconej zagadnieniu tytułowemu. Stąd celem niniejszego tekstu jest ukazanie studentów-sportowców Wyższej Szkoły Wychowania Fizycznego i Turystyki w Białymstoku wobec wyzwań światowego sportu studenckiego, liczby startujących sportowców uczelni w kategorii kobiet i mężczyzn, ich uczestnictwa i lokat w rywalizacji w poszczególnych dyscyplinach sportu w wybranych sportach i konkurencjach obowiązującego programu światowego ruchu uniwersjadowego. Prezentowany tekst w zamiarze autorki obejmuje uniwersjadowe współzawodnictwo zarówno w sportach letnich, jak i w sportach zimowych od 2005 do 2015 roku.
    The surprising fact is that in the history of the university there were no situation which would focused work on the titled issue. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to show the athletes having the status of a student of the Higher School of Physical Education and Tourism in Bialystok and the challenges of the student's sport world, the number of competing athletes in the category of women and men, their deposits to compete in individual sports, in selected events within the sports program of the universiades. The intention of the author of the presented text shows the universiade competitions in winter and summer sports from 2005 to 2015 during which students WSWFiT in Bialystok were members of the Polish academic representation.

    Począwszy od 2001 roku z inicjatywy badaczy reprezentujących środowisko Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego oraz Misyjnego Seminarium Duchownego Księży Werbistów w Pieniężnie corocznie odbywają się debaty naukowe pod wspólnym hasłem Sacrum i profanum we współczesnym świecie. Ich tematyka dotyczy ważnych problemów współczesnego świata – począwszy od wyzwań i zagrożeń dla pokoju, bezpieczeństwa oraz stabilności w poszczególnych regionach, poprzez problemy globalne, związane z istotą i ewolucją współczesnego ładu światowego, aż po zagadnienia odnoszące się do aksjologicznych i epistemologicznych aspektów funkcjonowania państw i społeczeństw w zmieniającym się świecie. Spotkania te stały się swego rodzaju instytucją, skupiając spore grono badaczy z różnych ośrodków akademickich, a także przykładem inspirującej współpracy naukowców, reprezentujących odmienne dyscypliny badawcze, różne podejścia metodologiczne oraz świeckie i kościelne środowiska akademickie.
    Since 2001, on the initiative of researchers representing the environment of the University of Warsaw and the Theological Seminary in Pieniężno, annual scientific debates are held under the motto “Sacred and profane in the modern world”. Their subject matter concerned important problems of the modern world ranging from challenges and threats to peace, security and stability in individual regions through global problems related to the essence and evolution of the contemporary world order to issues relating to the axiological and epistemological aspects of the functioning of states and societies in a changing world. These meetings have become a kind of institution bringing together a large group of researchers from various academic centres and an example of inspiring cooperation of scientists representing different research disciplines, different methodological approaches as well as secular and ecclesiastical academic environments.

    In the second part of our article we continue presentation of individual fates of Polish mathematicians (in a broad sense) and the formation of modern Polish mathematical community against the background of the events of World War I. In particular we focus on the situations of Polish mathematicians in the Russian Empire (including those affiliated with the University of Warsaw, reactivated by Germans, and the Warsaw Polytechnics, founded already by Russians) and other countries.
    W drugiej części artykułu kontynuujemy przedstawianie indywidualnych losów matematyków polskich (w szerokim sensie) oraz kształtowanie się nowoczesnego polskiego środowiska matematycznego na tle wydarzeń pierwszej wojny światowej. W szczególności skupiamy się na sytuacji matematyków polskich w Cesarstwie Rosyjskim (także tych związanych z reaktywowanym przez Niemców Uniwersytetem Warszawskim i utworzoną jeszcze przez Rosjan Politechniką Warszawską) i innych krajach.
