This article reports a fragment of studies into the psychosocial competencies of academic teachers at technical universities, which were carried out in 2019-2021 using a diagnostics survey done among the academic staffof the Silesian University of Technology. One of its aims was the self-assessment of those competencies that the respondents regarded as scarce, insufficient and incomplete, as these should be deemed a priority in the professional training of the academic staff. The results of those analyses have been presented here.

The article discusses the position of young researchers within the field of Polish pedagogy. The article is based on a simple survey. The main objective of the texts is to analyze fundamental problems that the group in question is faced with. The key questions referring to young Polish researchers of pedagogy cover three areas: day-to-day reality of young researchers; research funding system; prospects and visions of changes of the current situation. Also, these three areas govern the structure of the article. In the final part, I attempt to present the main conclusions of the conducted analyses.

Opis:
The Bill defines a requirement which are base of the academic teacher periodic evaluation. The question about criteria, conditions, and instrumentality in the evaluation process should be asked. The investigation was conducted based on 32 evaluation sheets used in 22 Polish universities. As a result the characteristics of the sheets and their construction were displayed. The occupied position or the scientific degree of employee determines the disproportion in the scope of assessment conditions. Another results show main domain which are considered during evaluation of teacher activity. A scientific category of university turned out significant for the scope of an attention paid to these domains. The evaluation sheets were arranged in a typology on the base of their characteristics.

The changes that contemporary organisations go through result in a shift in management conduct, organisation and management of human resources. Such trends are observable in public higher education institutions in Poland. Organisations striving to actively compete in a dynamic environment, and answer its needs, introduce amendments in various areas of their operations. Endeavours to improve the quality of teaching and ensure more efficient and effective management of higher education institutions are becoming ubiquitous. Changes are not only “cosmetic” in nature, but regularly interfere with organizational culture – and, as such, are challenging and implemented over a long time frame. Organisational culture, with values at its core, is a resultant of many factors, including values brought in by an organisation’s employees. For higher education institutions, this aspect is an important starting point for further reflections. The ethos of academics, through historical determinants, is based on honesty and openness – some key values that form the basis for decision making in diverse areas of operations. This article focuses on honesty and openness as desirable social values and components of a wider social capital – trust, with the benefits of professing trust taken into account as well. At the same time, an attempt has been made to show the role of those values in the context of the work of public higher education institution employees. Theoretical considerations are backed by illustrative quantitative empirical research. Research has been conducted among employees in the positions of researchers, educators and researcher-educators in all higher education institutions operating in Lodz, Poland.

This article considers mediation in disciplinary matters against academic teachers, PhD students and students. The analysis was carried out against the background of the new Act of 20 July 2018 – Law on Higher Education and Science and the Regulation of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of September 25, 2018 on the detailed mode of conducting mediation, explanatory proceedings and disci- plinary proceedings in matters of disciplinary liability of academic teachers, and also the way of disciplinary penalties and their seizure. In the first part of the ar- ticle, through the confrontation of the function and the importance of disciplinary responsibility with the functions of mediation proceedings, the legitimacy of the adopted legislative solutions in this area was assessed – introduction of media- tion to disciplinary proceedings against academic teachers and the lack of such a solution in the case of disciplinary liability of students and doctoral students. Then, there is a detailed analysis of the provisions relating to the mediation pro- ceedings allowed for the display of noticed errors and defects in legal regulations.

The subject of this Article is the offi cial position of the commandant of the Police Academy in Szczytno. In contrast, the author’s aim is to present the process of shaping the special attributes of this position, which is the status of an academic teacher. The article presents the se quence of organisational and legal changes to which the academic institution in Szczytno has been subject since 1972, as well as their impact on combining the status of academic teacher with the position of commandant of the Police Academy in Szczytno. The author comes to the conclusion that the process, which led to combining the status of an academic teacher with the position of the commandant rector of the Police Academy in Szczytno, was extremely tedious. This outcome was achieved only in 2018, i.e. almost fifty years after the unit in Szczytno obtained the status of a higher school. In the author’s opinion, it is an appropriate solution, because it fulfi lls the postulate of uniformity and systemic cohesion. Thanks to this, the legal situation of the rector of a higher education institution subordinate to the minister responsible for internal affairs was equated in the discussed scope to the situation of rectors of military higher education institutions and other rectors of public higher education institutions. In the opinion of the author, linking the position of the rector of a government service higher education institution with the status of academic teacher is also benefi cial for the institution itself and the person holding this offi ce. The author emphasises that the officers appointed to the position of commandant rector will be able to carry out scientifi c research activities and educate scientifi c staff in the institution they manage as academic teachers. A higher education institution may, in turn, list them and include their scientifi c output in the lists and reports required to be prepared as part of the procedures for the assessment of the quality of education provided by the institution and for the evaluation and categorisation of its scientific activities.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected education in the vast majority of countries around the world. Educational systems were not prepared for this. This also extends to higher education. Certain measures have been taken in attempt to enable teaching in the new reality. The pandemic is global in nature and the changes in education have a similar aspect as well. After 12 March 2020, distance education was also introduced in Poland. Several months of distance learning have yielded some interesting experiences and shown the problems that arise when designing such educational systems. Due to the epidemic situation that is still far from being under control, it should be assumed that distance education will remain with us for longer. The article presents the results of research on distance learning in Poland in the first period of the pandemic in relation to the global situation. It focuses on academic teachers and the challenges they have faced when switching to distance learning.

The text analyses the documentation of the periodic evaluation of academic teachers at 22 Polish universities with the faculties of Pedagogy, shows the conditions of this evaluation and characterises its procedure. The content analysis reveals what issues in the internal regulatory documents establish the periodic evaluation of academic teachers and its procedure, as well as the extent to which they are represented in these documents. In order to fully describe the regulations and to explore the differences among the universities in the area of teacher evaluation, the authors used a statistical analysis. The results show a wide variation of the elements that are included in the internal documents regulating the periodic evaluation of academic teachers. The authors refer to the contemporary press and media discussion on the condition of universities and the directions of their development. They interpret the findings referring also to the contemporary perception of a university as an enterprise as well as to strong bureaucracy at the universities and its adverse impact on their evaluation system.

Praca we współczesnym świecie stanowi ważny element funkcjonowania zarówno poszczególnych jednostek, jak i całych społeczeństw. Rozwój nauki i techniki wymaga od pracownika stałego podnoszenia swoich kwalifikacji oraz umiejętności współdziałania w ramach struktur zawodowych. Ciągle rosnące oczekiwania wobec pracownika mogą i często powodują wystąpienie wypalenia zawodowego. W szczególności na to zjawisko narażone są jednostki, które w ramach obowiązków zawodowych podejmują relacje z wieloma osobami. Celem niniejszego opracowania jest zatem namysł nad obrazem nauczyciela akademickiego w kontekście syndromu wypalenia zawodowego, wskazanie na przyczyny wypalenia wśród tej grupy pracowników oraz możliwości działań optymalizujących ich pracę.
Working in the modern world is an important part of the functioning of both individuals and entire societies. The development of science and technology requires the employee to constantly improve his or her qualifications and skills of cooperation within professional structures. Constantly growing expectations towards an employee can and often cause professional burnout. In particular, individuals who undertake relationships with many people as part of their professional duties are exposed to this phenomenon. The aim of this study is therefore to reflect on the image of an academic teacher in the context of the professional burnout syndrome, to point out the causes of burnout among this group of employees and the possibilities of actions to optimise their work.

Aim: To present the figure and scientific achievements of prof. dr hab. Zygmunt Ruta. Methods: An analysis of archival and printed sources. Results: A very rich scientific and didactic activity of Zygmunt Ruta was presented. It was emphasised that he was a long-term head of the Institute of the History of Education and Upbringing, and in the years 1982–1997 he was the head of the Department of the History of Education and Upbringing at the Pedagogical University of Cracow, and a member of several scientific societies. Conclusions: Zygmunt Ruta, through his scientific and didactic activity, made a significant contribution to higher education in Cracow and Poland. He influenced the development of young academics in a positive manner.

The phenomenon of achieving or experiencing professional satisfaction carries a multitude of possibilities of interpretation. It is also determined by various factors. In this paper we assume that job satisfaction is an important aspect of teachers’ work quality. Perception of their work and the degree of work satisfaction affect the professional activity of teachers – the level of involvement and identification with the profession, creativity, motivation for development. The aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this article, is to search for relationships between autotelic and normative attitudes of teachers towards work and their work satisfaction. The study, which involved 367 teachers employed in Polish universities, is on linear relations and uses a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of these studies made it possible to identify the main predictors of contemporary academics’ job satisfaction and confirmed the fact that the satisfaction is in the area of teaching and research, and depends – to a greater extent – on the presented attitude towards work rather than received social support and work atmosphere. Interpersonal relationships in the workplace, however, proved a major determinant of the level of satisfaction with the organizational work for the university.

The problem of loyalty of academic teachers is complex and multifaceted. One of the manifestations of loyalty towards the employer are restrictions on additional employment. The study indicates many problems related to the additional employment of academic teachers. Doubts arouse the legitimacy of introducing restrictions on the additional employment of academic teachers in the light of Article 3 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, and compliance of the regulation with Article 32 of the Constitution regarding the principle of equality, as well as with Article 65 Item 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, which guarantees freedom of choice and performance of the profession and selection of a place of work.
Problem lojalności nauczycieli akademickich jest złożony i wielowymiarowy. Jednym z przejawów lojalności wobec pracodawcy są ograniczenia dodatkowego zatrudnienia. Opracowanie wskazuje na wiele problemów związanych z dodatkowym zatrudnieniem nauczycieli akademickich. Wątpliwości budzi zasadność wprowadzenia ograniczeń w zakresie dodatkowego zatrudnienia nauczycieli akademickich w świetle art. 3 Konstytucji RP i zgodności regulacji z art. 32 Konstytucji RP w odniesieniu do zasady równości, jak również art. 65 ust. 1 Konstytucji RP, który gwarantuje wolność wyboru i wykonywania zawodu oraz wyboru miejsca pracy.

In the current discussion about the quality and necessary reform of higher education, the focus is on curricula, content and effects of education, along with financing and management of universities. Much less attention is given to the questions regarding personal and moral qualities of academic teachers. It is worth reflecting on and researching the desired characteristics of academics that would enable them to fulfil their social role.

Kreśli wstępny ogląd niejednorodnego, nieraz sprzecznego wewnętrznie charakteru relacji w uniwersytecie i relacji uniwersytetu z szeroko rozumianym środowiskiem, a więc zastanawia się nad kulturą uczelni, czyli jej wewnętrznymi i zewnętrznymi uwarunkowaniami funkcjonowania. Autorka przedstawia wyniki niewielkiego sondażu, które zebrała, korzystając z metody kuli śnieżnej. Jest to analiza pisemnych wypowiedzi, w których badane i badani określali metaforą własną sytuację zawodowo-naukową. Jest to prezentacja podstawowych problemów, z jakimi borykają się młodzi zatrudnieni na uczelni.
The Author conducts a higher education review by using metaphors obtained from young tutors regarding their professional and scientific situation. She shows the inhomogeneous and sometimes even internally contradictory character of the relations within a university as well as the relations between a university and the environment. The author reflects on the culture of higher education as well as its internal and external conditions of functioning. The Author presents the results of a small survey she collected using the snowball sampling technique. It is an analysis of written statements in which the respondents defined their professional and scientific situation with a metaphor. This is a presentation of the basic problems faced by young university employees.

Artykuł prezentuje wyniki badań empirycznych dotyczących narracji studentów wobec nowoczesnego wykładowcy (nauczyciela akademickiego). Analiza uzyskanych wyników wskazuje, że w pełni odzwierciedlają one wyobrażenie studenckiej młodzieży o osobistych i zawodowych cechach współczesnego nauczyciela. Podkreśla na jest konieczność kształtowania postawy samooceny nauczyciela. Refleksja nad własnym wizerunkiem może być wzbogacona o postrzeganie studentów swojego wykładowcy, które stanowi jednocześnie informację zwrotną odnośnie do wielu wymiarów interakcji między studentem a nauczycielem. W artykule zostały zaproponowane i opisane dwa sposoby wzmacniania wizerunku wykładowcy: relacja dialogu ze studentami i budowanie własnego potencjału wartości. Dialog jest pierwszym warunkiem do przekształcenia humanistycznych wartości edukacji w przedmiot duchowych potrzeb studentów. Dialog interakcyjny jest możliwy przy akceptacji nauczyciela akademickiego przez studentów i pełnej tolerancji studentów przez ich wykładowcę - pomijając własne interesy, potrzeby i aspiracje. Funkcja pedagogiczna dialogu jest możliwa tylko wówczas, gdy inicjuje ją wykładowca dysponujący znacznym zasobem „pozytywnych emocji”. Drugim warunkiem przekształcenia humanistycznych wartości edukacji w przedmiot duchowych potrzeb studentów jest zakres hierarchii wartości wykładowcy. Wartości humanistyczne muszą być uznawane przez wykładowcę za podstawowe w tej hierarchii, jak również orientacja „ku człowiekowi” powinna stanowić trwałą cechę jego osobowości. Realizacja tego warunku jest możliwa przede wszystkim poprzez odpowiedzialne podejście do przedmiotu nauczania. Rolę wewnętrznego motywatora pełni tu stałe monitorowanie oraz ocena jakości własnej pracy metodycznej, a także dążenie do utrzymania jej na wysokim, profesjonalnym poziomic. Zewnętrznym zaś motywatorem jest zrównoważona kontrola administracji szkolnictwa wyższego odnośnie do zdobywania kwalifikacji dydaktycznych przez nauczycieli akademickich oraz ich doskonalenia.

W artykule poruszony został problem dotyczący komunikacji pomiędzy nauczycielami akademickimi a studentami. Powodem podjęcia tematu były rozmowy ze studentami, z których wynikało, iż ta komunikacja nie jest najlepsza. Podjęta została próba określenia, jakie czynniki wpływają na skuteczną komunikacje, a jakie ją zakłócają. Studenci uważają, że takie czynniki, jak wiek, płeć czy stopień naukowy nauczyciela, raczej nie wpływają na efektywność komunikacji. Na to, co przede wszystkim źle wpływa na komunikację w opinii studentów, ma wpływ, jak to okre-ślili, wywyższanie się, niezrozumiałość zajęć, zbyt ciche mówienie, spóźnianie się, brak odpowiedzi na maile, mała aktywność ze strony prowadzącego zajęcia oraz nadmierny stres na zajęciach. Artykuł może się przyczynić do lepszego zrozumienia oczekiwań studentów w zakresie komunikacji w procesie dydaktycznym.
This article shows the problem of the communication between academic teachers and students. The reason for the topic was to talk to students from which it was revealed that this commu-nication is not the best. An attempt has been made to determine what factors affect effective communication and what distorts it. Students believe that factors such as age, sex or teacher's academic grade do not affect the effectiveness of communication. First of all, bad influence on communication in the opinion of students is influenced by what they describe as exaggeration, incomprehension of activities, too quiet speaking, delaying, lack of response to e-mails, little activity from the tutor and excessive stress in class. This article can help to better understand the expectations of students in communication in the teaching process.

Bogdan Walczak, full professor, doctor habilitatus and one of the most distinguished students of Professor Władysław Kuraszkiewicz. Since his graduation from the Polish Faculty of Adam Mickiewicz University in1965, he developed his career at the Poznań university where he was awarded his doctor and doctor habilitatus degrees. At the behest of the University Council of the Faculty of Polish and Classical Philology he was appointed professor. Bogdan Walczak made his academic debut in 1964. Since that time, he has published over a thousand research and popular science works on various linguistic sub-disciplines, with special emphasis placed on linguistics related to the Polish and Slavic languages. The history of the general Polish language and its regional variations have been at the centre of his research. On the other hand, he has devoted a large part of his work to contemporary Polish, the culture of the Polish language and the cultural heritage enshrined in the Polish language, glottodidactics, onomastics, social linguistics and methodology of linguistic research. Professor Bogdan Walczak is also a valued academic teacher and organizer of research activities.He has received many awards, including the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Medal of the Commission ofNational Education for his remarkable research and academic achievements and for his organizational work,which has been of such importance to his alma mater.In 2012, when he retired, he was granted the esteemed title of senior professor of Adam Mickiewicz Universityin Poznań.

Aim: The presented essay was prepared in connection with the 91st birthday anniversary of Prof. Karol Poznański, which falls in February 2022. Over 60 years of acquaintance with the professor prompted the author to reflect on his rich, many-sided personality. Methods: In order to present his profile and evaluation, a retrospective analysis of the images preserved in the author’s memory of the professor’s behaviour towards both colleagues, staff and students was used. Synthesising and evaluating the scientific achievements of the distinguished jubilarian was to some extent facilitated by the reference books, especially publications directly dedicated to him. Results: The profile of Prof. Poznański has been presented based on personal memories and literature. Conclusions: In the era of confusion of notions and values, concerning also many representatives of the academic teachers, the presentation of the professor’s profile was considered necessary for cognitive and application reasons.

Issues concerning the e-university teacher in the context of e-learning as an implemented from-method of education are solved on the basis of literature and quality environmental research. Theoretical analysis covers a range of media pedagogy and academic pedeutology and quality research the students of postgraduate and extra-mural studies participated in. Developed research material revealed that there are two perspectives ahead of academic e-teacher: 1) intensive preparation for e-learning implementation, especially in extra-mural and postgraduate studies; 2) satisfying students’ various educational needs with the use of traditional and multimedia forms-methods for their preparation for LLL. We should also predict that the robot of a university teacher assistant in the future will become competition in the higher education market.

The article concerns the experiences of academic teachers related to hybrid education at the end of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. The aim of the study was to understand the lecturers' perspective on hybrid education implemented in the first semester of the 2021/2022 academic year at The Maria Grzegorzewska University and an attempt to compare it with traditional education and distance education. The subject of the research was, among others, readiness to implement hybrid teaching, university support for lecturers in the field of hybrid teaching and the diversity of experiences of academic teachers. The research used the method of diagnostic survey. The obtained results indicate that the lecturers declare their readiness to conduct hybrid teaching, especially in the case of their own or students' illness, or random factors that make it impossible to conduct full-time classes or top-down legal regulations. They appreciate the organizational support of their immediate supervisor and the opportunity to make up for classes that have not taken place in a hybrid form. The lecturers highly assess the level of their own involvement in the preparation and conduct of classes, as well as the quality of their didactic work. They see the possibility of using a hybrid approach not only in teaching but also in their self-improvement, work organization and maintaining health. At the same time, they indicate the shortcomings and difficulties related to didactics, social, technical, and organizational aspects, as well as systemic deficiencies. Based on the results, recommendations related to the use of hybrid education in post-pandemic academic education were developed.

The article concerns the experiences of students related to hybrid education conducted in the first semester of the academic year 2021/2022. The aim of the study was to find out the opinions of students on hybrid education conducted at The University and to compare it with traditional education and distance education. The subject of the research was, among others, the readiness of students to participate in hybrid learning, assessing its quality and other related experiences. The research used the method of diagnostic survey. The obtained results indicate that students rate their readiness to participate in hybrid education higher than the readiness of lecturers to conduct it. They see the possibility of using a hybrid approach to education and science, organization of education and health. They indicate convenience, organization and health safety as the most important advantages and social costs, student attitudes and technical problems as the most important disadvantages of hybridization. The article also presents the expectations of students in relation to the systemic sanctioning of hybrid education. It was suggested to use the lessons learned by developing and testing the effectiveness of a hybrid approach, the potential of which is undeniable and scientifically proven.

 Pre-war academic staff in Poland, seriously curtailed during World War II, could not meet satisfactorily post-war demands of quickly expanding academic schools. Help has been provided by the pre-war school teachers. The article describes the situation in the field of mathematics, offering fates of over 40 school teachers of mathematics who joined universities and polytechnics, and giving some general remarks.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest analiza zmian w zakresie przesłanek oraz trybu, w jakim następuje rozwiązanie i wygaśnięcie stosunku pracy nauczycieli akademickich na gruncie ustawy Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i zastępującej ten akt ustawy Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i nauce. Nawiązanie stosunku pracy z nauczycielami akademickimi na gruncie uchylonej ustawy następowało na podstawie mianowania lub umowy o pracę. W zależności od podstawy nawiązania stosunku pracy odmiennie prezentowały się również kwestie możliwości rozwiązania stosunku pracy z nauczycielem akademickim. Skutkiem wprowadzenia nowych regulacji w przedmiocie zakończenia stosunku pracy nauczyciela akademickiego jest zrównanie w tym zakresie sytuacji nauczycieli mianowanych i kontraktowych i tym samym osłabienie ochrony przed rozwiązaniem stosunku pracy nauczycieli mianowanych.
The subject of the article is an analysis of changes in the procedure in which the termination and expiry of the employment relationship of academic teachers takes place on the basis of the Act on Higher Education and the Act on Higher Education and Science replacing this act. On the basis of the repealed act the employment relationship with academic teachers was established on the basis of an appointment or an employment contract. Depending on the basis for establishing the employment relationship, the issues of the possibility of terminating the employment relationship with an academic teacher were also different. The result of the introduction of new regulations on termination of the employment relationship of an academic teacher is the equalization of the situation of appointed and contract teachers in this respect, and thus weakening the protection against termination of employment of appointed teachers.

Artykuł ma na celu zaprezentowanie wyników badań dotyczących poglądów współczesnych studentów na uniwersytet. Sformułowano kilka problemów badawczych: z jakich źródeł informacji i wiedzy o świecie korzystają współcześni studenci; jakie są główne cele szkolnictwa wyższego według współczesnych studentów; dlaczego współcześni studenci decydują się na rozpoczęcie studiów wyższych; kim jest nauczyciel akademicki dla współczesnego studenta? Narzędziem badawczym był kwestionariusz ankiety udostępniony studentom drogą elektroniczną. Badania wykazały, że uniwersytet jest jednym ze źródeł informacji dla 65% studentów biorących udział w badaniu. Więcej wskazań uzyskał jedynie Internet. Ponadto, respondenci za kluczowe cele szkolnictwa wyższego uznali przyczynianie się do rozwoju intelektualnego studentów, przygotowanie zawodowe oraz przyznawanie stopni naukowych i wydawanie dyplomów. Głównymi powodami, dla których respondenci zdecydowali się podjąć studia w szkole wyższej były: chęć zdobycia wyższego wykształcenia, chęć rozwoju intelektualnego i chęć nabycia określonych umiejętności praktycznych. Nauczyciele akademiccy są dla studentów, przede wszystkim, osobami przekazującymi wiedzę. 21% spośród ankietowanych udzieliło odpowiedzi „mistrz” (lub użyło synonimu tego słowa).
The article aims to present the results of the study regarding the view of modern students at the university. Several research problems were formulated as follows: what sources of information and knowledge about the world do contemporary students use; what are the main goals of higher education according to modern students; why are modern students deciding to start a higher education course; who is an academic teacher for a modern student? The research tool was a questionnaire made available to the students electronically. Research has shown that the University is one of the sources of information for 65% of students participating in the study. Only the Internet has obtained more indications. Futhermore, Respondents regarded the key objectives of higher education as contributing to the intellectual development of students, vocational training and awarding academic degrees and issuing diplomas. The main reasons why the respondents chose to study at a higher school were: the desire to obtain higher education, the desire for intellectual development and the acquisition of specific practical skills. Academic teachers are for students who have answered the open question, above all persons transferring knowledge. 21% of them gave the answer “master” and all synonyms of this term.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to develop hypotheses regarding the factors shaping the internal motivation of academic teachers to improve their teaching skills. Teaching methods and forms of communication have become the main research context. Design/methodology/approach: The studies were based on the review of literature on motivation theory and pilot surveys. The pilot analysis was based on data visualization methods and factor analysis. Findings: The use of modern communication methods might be correlated to age, and the use of modern teaching methods to gender. The teaching methods and forms of communication with students are influenced by factors related to the need to acquire knowledge and peer pressure. Originality/value The paper stresses an important aspect of the work of an academic teacher which is didactic work, which is not often taken into account in scientific research. The paper attempts to examine the factors that shape the teacher's motivation to improve their working methods in this regard.

Academic ethics has recently become an important issue in Poland. With changes in the Polish law on higher education a new approach to ethics of students and academics has been presented. As a PhD student and young researcher, I am personally interested in the introduced changes. This article seeks to examine professional academic ethics in terms of two chosen theories, that is, the Protestant work ethic of Max Weber and its adaptation to the academic environment by Robert K. Merton. I situate both theories in the  Polish context of shaping the academic ethos. In my deliberations I recall Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s works as fundamental for the Protestant work ethos values, which are honesty, reliability and diligence. Additionally I present their religious as well as non religious aspects. With such theoretical foundations, I attempt to evaluate the risks and violations in the ranks of Polish academics. The theoretical basis and the collected data enable me to put forward the claim that it is not feasible in Poland to follow the Western model of work ethics. Instead, it has to be built from scratch. To start this process, we need to consider the value of responsibility as a crucial category not only for the process of academic ethos formation, but also for everyday life from the early years.

The purpose of this article is to analyze legal regulations pertaining to disciplinary liability of academic staff in Poland. It is composed of two integral parts: first, it describes questions connected with the basics of disciplinary liability of academic staff, including premise of liability and penalty and second, it centers around notions of legal system and disciplinary litigations initiated by university disciplinary committees for academic staff. Celem niniejszego artykułu naukowego jest przedstawienie instytucji prawnej, którą jest obowiązująca od 1 października 2018 r., a wprowadzona do systemu prawa na podstawie przepisów ustawy z 20 lipca 2018 r. – Prawo o szkolnictwie wyższym i nauce, mediacja prowadzona w postępowaniu dyscyplinarnym wobec nauczycieli akademickich (mediacja akademicka). W tekście zostaną zaprezentowane: pojęcie mediacji akademickiej, inicjowanie mediacji, zasady postępowania mediacyjnego, przebieg tego postępowania oraz postulaty mające na celu sprawne procedowanie na ten temat. Autor, odwołując się do wyników prowadzonych przez siebie badań naukowych, stawia tezę, że jeśli nie zmienią się przepisy dotyczące mediacji akademickiej oraz praktyka ich stosowania na uczelni, to mediacja nigdy nie będzie skutecznym instrumentem służącym rozwiązywaniu konfliktów na uczelni wyższej.
Paweł Czarnecki’s aim in this article is to present the legal measure of mediation conducted in disciplinary proceedings against academic teachers (academic mediation), introduced on October 1st 2018, after the entry into force of the Act of July 20th 2018, Law on Higher Education and Science. Czarnecki discusses the following aspects of this measure: the definition of academic mediation, the procedure of referring a case to mediation, general principles of mediation proceedings, stages of this procedure, and postulates aimed at increasing the efficiency of proceedings in such cases. Based on his analysis of statistical data obtained from Polish universities, Czarnecki puts forward a thesis that, unless the provisions on academic mediation are changed, mediation will not be an effective instrument to help resolve conflicts at a university between the accused academic teacher and the victim.

Przedmiotem analiz w tym tekście jest relacja między działalnością badawczą i dydaktyczną nauczyciela akademickiego. Celem zaś jest ukazanie, w świetle dostępnej literatury przedmiotu, różnych aspektów (odrębności i związków) działalności badawczej i dydaktycznej nauczyciela akademickiego, a także korzyści wynikających z łączenia obu tych obszarów. Zaprezentowano także model powiązań między badaniami naukowymi i działalnością dydaktyczną w programach kształcenia akademickiego w ujęciu M. Healeya. W podsumowaniu zwrócono uwagę na potrzebę podejmowania prób badawczych i praktycznych zastosowań koncepcji łączenia badań naukowych i działalności dydaktycznej w polskim szkolnictwie wyższym.
The main focus of this paper is the relationship between research and teaching in higher education. Its aim is to explore different aspects of this relationship as well as benefits stemming from the connection between research and teaching in higher education through the review of relevant literature. Furthermore, Healey’s research-teaching nexus model is presented. The paper concludes with suggestions for future research studies and practical applications of the idea of the research-teaching nexus in Polish higher education.

The aim of this paper is to analyze and present social role of coach and teacher professions. It presents combination of specific features of a coach, a mediator, aconsultantas well as a classic role of academic teacher. This paper presents advantages and disadvantages of mutual influence of market and academia (especially in management schools). It points out the consequences of this compound which is mixing together a role of a teacher and a consultant. Presented considerations relate to management education so all the conclusions may be applied only in a management discipline. The paper presents results of ethnographic research as well as long-term experience of the author in the role of a coach and an academic teacher.

The paper explores some aspects of the minimal student education. What attracts one's attention are: the dyad encompassing the academic teacher and the minimal student; and the triad encompassing the academic teacher, the minimal student and the educational institution. The hypothesis orchestrating this study, preliminary as it is, contains the assumption that the minimal learner profile disturbs both relations, bringing about the violation of the educational process. As a result, the methodological verification of the teaching procedures, as well as the psycholinguistic awareness raising process, have to be introduced if the minimal student education is to be continued.

The Covid-19 pandemic has changed working conditions in many industries. Some of them have been completely closed, with no possibility of any professional activity, others have changed the manner of performing employee tasks, place and time. Many jobs have been moved home. These were mainly service industries, where exposure to psychophysical hazards increased incomparably to the previous working conditions. Administrative and office work during the Covid-19 pandemic has brought huge changes in the form of an increased risk of musculoskeletal disorders. This article presents the results of quantitative and qualitative research on the scale of musculoskeletal ailments in the administrative and office work of academic teachers and preventive measures to reduce the effects of these ailments. The research was conducted remotely using a questionnaire in three research and teaching centers in the Silesian Voivodeship. Quantitative research was supported by a direct interview conducted directly among academic teachers at one of the universities in the Silesian Voivodeship. According to the presented research results, respondents noticed a significant increase in musculoskeletal disorders dictated by the rapid change in working conditions related to the Covid-19 pandemic. Every second respondent pointed to non-ergonomic working conditions at home and a long time of exposure to static physical load, with particular emphasis on the sitting position (at the computer), as the main cause of the ailments. The research also touched on issues related to preventive measures to minimize the aforementioned ailments undertaken by both universities and the respondents themselves. The presented results are part of a larger whole planned over time.

Efficacy is a trait required in almost every profession today, and its sense is a dimension that affects the evaluation of work. In education, effectiveness is also expected, especially from academic teachers whose role often goes beyond the formal framework. Therefore, the issues of one’s own efficiency in relation to self-esteem seem to be of particular interest, as an attempt to show possible dependencies in this regard, all the more so since previous studies not always revealed such a connection. Therefore, the main research problem takes the form of the following question: Do relationships exist between self-esteem and a sense of one’s own efficiency among the academic teachers surveyed, and if so, what are they? Carrying out empirical research among the teaching staff of a military university, I decided to diagnose a specific military environment in this matter, which can be a real reference to similar analyzes carried out at other universities. I formulated my conclusions based on the results of research carried out using the diagnostic survey method at the War Studies University in Warsaw using standardized measuring tools and elements of descriptive and correlation statistics.
Skuteczność to cecha wymagana dzisiaj niemal w każdym zawodzie, a jej poczucie stanowi pewien wymiar rzutujący na ocenę pracy. W edukacji także oczekuje się skuteczności, szczególnie od nauczycieli akademickich, których rola często wykracza poza formalne ramy. Szczególnie interesująca wydaje się być wobec tego problematyka poczucia własnej skuteczności w odniesieniu do samooceny, jako próba ukazania ewentualnych zależności w tym zakresie tym bardziej, że w dotychczasowych badaniach nie zawsze można było odnaleźć takie połączenie. Główny problem badawczy przyjmuje zatem postać następującego pytania: Czy istnieją, a jeżeli tak, to jakie są zależności pomiędzy samooceną a poczuciem własnej skuteczności badanych nauczycieli akademickich? Realizując badania empiryczne wśród kadry dydaktycznej uczelni wojskowej postanowiłem zdiagnozować specyficzne środowisko wojskowe w tej kwestii, co może stanowić realne odniesienie do podobnych analiz prowadzonych na innych uczelniach. Swoje wnioski sformułowałem na podstawie wyników badań zrealizowanych metodą sondażu diagnostycznego w Akademii Sztuki Wojennej w Warszawie przy zastosowaniu wystandaryzowanych narzędzi pomiarowych oraz elementów statystyki opisowej i korelacyjnej.

Opis:
Article examines the occurrence of professional stress among academic teachers (postgraduate students), doctors and policemen particularly exposed to intensive in uence of stressful impulses for social character of the functions they perform. Basing on the literature of object, author enriches the analysis with his own ndings. In rst instance he de nes the notion of stressors and then he tries to nd and make them up in the form of specific threats, adequate for each of the above mentioned professional groups. His analysis is extended by the aspect of professional transformations taking into consideration their social-cultural conditions. Thanks to it the author shows the existence of relationship not only between the age of respondents and susceptibility on stress but he underlines as well how important place in human’s needs hierarchy takes the professional job. Frustration, fear, tension and anxiety destructively in uence the psychical form of an individual e ecting in negative consequence de ned by the hereby article as a professional burnout.

Odpowiednie przygotowanie do korzystania z dostępnych narzędzi wspomagających proces edukacyjny warunkuje umiejętne, skuteczne, efektywne i zarazem efektowne przekazywanie niezbędnych wiadomości, korzystanie z dostępnych informacji, porozumiewania się ze studentami oraz innymi współpracownikami na uczelni.
The article was presents the results of research on the level of resistance to stress of academic teachers of the University of Rzeszów using ICT in their workshop to acquire, process and transfer knowledge to students. Appropriate preparation to use the available tools supporting the educational process determines the skilful, effective, efficient and at the same time effective transmission of necessary information, use of available information, communication with students and other colleagues at the university.

W pandemii niebezpieczne stało się dla nas to, co stanowiło fundament procesu edukacyjnego i badawczego – bezpośredni kontakt międzyludzki. Przeformułowanie edukacji akademickiej i dostosowanie jej do wymogów świata wirtualnego jest sytuacją bez precedensu, trudną, której towarzyszy lęk i niepewność. Zadanie to spoczęło na barkach nauczycieli akademickich. W artykule podjęto zagadnienie związane z budowaniem i tworzeniem nowego środowiska pracy dla pracowników badawczo-dydaktycznych – tzw. wirtualnego uniwersytetu. Wskazano wyzwania, szanse i zagrożenia związane z funkcjonowaniem w takim środowisku oraz znaczenie kompetencji cyfrowych w pracy nauczyciela akademickiego w wirtualnym środowisku akademickim.
In a pandemic, that what was the foundation of the educational and research process—direct interpersonal contact—has become dangerous for us. The reformulation of academic education and its adaptation to the requirements of the virtual world is an unprecedented, difficult situation accompanied by fear and uncertainty. This task rested on the shoulders of academic teachers. The article deals with the issue related to building and creating a new work environment for research and teaching employees, the so-called virtual university. The challenges, opportunities and threats related to functioning in such an environment as well as the importance of digital competences in the work of an academic teacher in a virtual academic environment were indicated.
