Film a dějiny (Film i historia) to nie tylko wydawany w Czechach cykl publikacji pokonferencyjnych, ale także świadectwo nowego sposobu radzenia sobie tamtejszego środowiska akademickiego z dylematami historycznofilmowymi. Ukazujące się od 2004 r. monograficzne opracowania z jednej strony wypełniają filmoznawcze białe plamy, poruszając tematy wcześniej w dyskusji nieobecne, a z drugiej proponują dialog zogniskowany wokół kluczowych zagadnień dotyczących kinematografii narodowej. Do tej pory zrealizowane zostały następujące projekty: „Adolf Hitler i inni – filmowe obrazy zła”, „Polityczna kamera – film i stalinizm”, „Normalizacja”, „Pierestrojka”, „Postkomunizm – przemiany w czeskim filmie historycznym po roku 1989” i „Propaganda”.
Film a dějiny (Film and History) is not only a series of post-conference publications, but also a sign of a new way of dealing with historical film dilemmas by the Czech academic community. The research monographs published since 2004 have filled the gaps in film studies by addressing previously omitted topics and offering a dialogue focused on critical issues of national cinematography. The following projects have been completed: Adolf Hitler and Others – Film Images of Evil, The Political Camera – Film and Stalinism, Normalization, Perestroika, Post-Communism – Transformations in Czech Historical Film after 1989, and Propaganda.

Opis:
The article focuses on blogs related to research activities of the academic community. Research-related blogs as components of university websites have developed into an array of sub-genres shaped by specific foci, their authors and the desired audiences. The data set consists of fifty posts from ten blogs of six universities. Drawing upon Swales’ methodology of genre analysis, the study explores the generic structure of the blog posts, reveals the communicative purposes they can fulfil within the landscape of university websites, identifies significant communication strategies, and explores the roles the blogs may serve in communicating science to the diverse audiences they potentially address. The analysis has shown that the blogs help accomplish the general goals of informing about the university and promoting it providing a personalized view and engaging the reader, manifest loose but recurrent generic structuring, and can be vehicles of knowledge dissemination as well as knowledge construction.

Celem artykułu jest uwidocznienie przemocy doświadczanej w terenie przez badaczki i badaczy. Po pierwsze, przemoc bywa częścią pracy w terenie i jako taka może podlegać analizie. Po drugie, przemilczanie jej wzmacnia szkodliwe aspekty kultury akademickiej, w której problemy związane z przynależnością do grup mniejszościowych (w tym problemy kobiet w akademii) pozostają niewidoczne. W konsekwencji instytucje badawcze nie wypracowują mechanizmów wsparcia dla osób doświadczających przemocy, a badacze i badaczki nie są przygotowane na tego rodzaju trudności. Analizuję trzy przypadki molestowania seksualnego, którego doświadczyłam w terenie. Interpretuję je jako jedną ze strategii przyjmowanych przez uczestników badań podczas wywiadu dla zyskania władzy lub kontroli nad sytuacją.
The aim of the article is to make visible the violence experienced by researchers in the field. Firstly, violence is sometimes a part of the fieldwork and as such can be analyzed. Secondly, keeping quiet about it strengthens the harmful aspects of the academic culture, in which the problems related to belonging to minority groups (including the problems of women in academia) remain invisible. As a consequence, research institutions do not develop support mechanisms for people experiencing violence, and researchers are not prepared for this kind of difficulty. I analyze three incidents of sexual harassment that I myself have experienced in the field. I interpret them as one of the strategies adopted by research participants during an interview to gain power or control over the situation.

Academics and faculty members are entangled in many interests. Selfless science for cognitive purposes is a thing of the past. There is a constant game of the power over knowledge. Apart from scientists, many entities with various interests are participants of the game. They are: politicians, officials, academic administration, research sponsors, accreditation agencies, publishers, resort scientific institutes, industry, business. The scientists themselves sometimes work for the truth and sometimes they work for profit; they create knowledge which is public property, or when they are employed commercially, e.g. by the industry, they create private knowledge. This paper presents five factors which may contribute to restricting the cognitive autonomy of the scientists.

This article addresses the issue of academic entrepreneurship, broadly understood as: (1) the process of establishing companies, (2) university entrepreneurship, (3) development of educational programs and entrepreneurial attitudes among students and academics, (4) creating institutions and programs that support setting up of companies, (5) intellectual property management and (6) entrepreneurial university management (Banerski et al., 2009). The goal is to examine the presence of academic entrepreneurship in the development strategies of eighteen Polish public universities. This study uses the content analysis method and is a part of strategic research. To answer the research question, the universities’ development strategies were analysed and in particular mission statements, strategic and operational goals, activities/tasks. Based on the research, it can be concluded that university authorities do not perceive academic entrepreneurship as a goal of the utmost importance and only to a small extent see the need to develop this concept by taking it into account in development strategies.

This paper considers perception and realization of EU-offered instruments and frameworks from the perspective of intra-EU mobile PhD candidates. In the context of current discussions about European Union research policies and their development, this paper shows who, how and under what circumstances doctoral candidates are participating and evaluating programs designed to encourage mobility and ‘excellence’. The basis for this research is 38 interviews with mobile PhDs candidates. It is shown that general knowledge about these programs is limited but positive, as the programs are known for their prestige. Universities and colleagues are the main distributors of information. Th e majority of our sample are not taking part in such programs and have no concrete plans to do so. This may be connected to their status as early-career scientists and their uncertain future.

Ćwierć wieku temu John Ziman sformułował tezę, iż nauka akademicka i nauka przemysłowa stapiają się w jeden system nauki postakademickiej i zarazem postprzemysłowej, w którym Mertonowskie normy nauki akademickiej wyrażone akronimem CUDOS (communism, universalism, disinterestedness, organized scepticism) ustępują miejsca normom nauki przemysłowej wyrażonym akronimem PLACE (proprietary, local, authoritarian, commissioned, expert). W niniejszym artykule bronię tezy, iż ów system wyewoluował w system akademickiej nauki przemysłowej, której normy można wyrazić akronimem PRICE: patron relevant, innovative, competitive, econometrical. Reformowanie nauki akademickiej okazuje się wobec tego także jej re-normowaniem w zakresie i etyki, i organizacji badań. Źródłem owej transformacji jest utożsamienie wiedzy z towarem. Etyka badań naukowych przekształca się w etykę produkcji wiedzy, a instytucje naukowe to producenci wiedzy, która staje się „towarem epistemicznym”, gdy jest na tenże fragment zapotrzebowanie jako na coś, co zaspokaja potrzeby „konsumentów”. Naukowcy są zaś elementem procesu produkcji wiedzy, a sam ten proces podlega kalkulacjom rynkowym. Nie podważa to epistemicznej wartości danego projektu badawczego i jego wyników, ale prowadzi do kontrowersyjnych konsekwencji, m.in. do fragmentaryzacji i aspektualizacji wiedzy, związania kierunków badawczych z interesami podmiotów władzy i ignorowania krytyki transformatywnej. W rezultacie niekiedy to, co było w nauce Mertonowskiej traktowane jako zagrożenie czy wykroczenie przeciwko etosowi nauki okazuje się racjonalnym zachowaniem przedsiębiorcy funkcjonującego na rynku dóbr i usług epistemicznych. Akademicka nauka przemysłowa nie jest też w stanie pełnić w społeczeństwie ról poza-instrumentalnych (kształtowania światopoglądu, wspierania społecznej racjonalności, dostarczania niezależnych ekspertów), które pełniła nauka akademicka. Próby zapobiegania tym problemom czy zagrożeniom będą zaś z góry skazane na niepowodzenie, ponieważ środki zaradcze są oparte na innym rozumieniu wiedzy.
Twenty five years ago John Ziman formulated the thesis that academic science and industrial science merge into one system of post-academic and at the same time post-industrial science, in which the Mertonian norms of academic science expressed by the acronym CUDOS (communism, universalism, disinterestedness, organized scepticism) give way to the norms of industrial science expressed by the acronym PLACE (proprietary, local, authoritarian, commissioned, expert). In this article, I defend the thesis that this system has evolved into a system of academic industrial science, the norms of which can be expressed with the acronym PRICE: patron relevant, innovative, competitive, econometrical. Thus, reforming academic science is also its re-norming in terms of both ethics and the organization of research. The ethics of scientific research is transformed into the ethics of knowledge production. Scientific institutions are seen as producers of knowledge which is an “epistemic commodity.” A particular of knowledge is needed when it satisfies the needs of “consumers.” Scientists are then „elements” of the knowledge production process, and the process itself is subject to market calculations. This does not undermine the epistemic value of a given research project and its results, but it leads to controversial consequences, including fragmentation and aspectualization of knowledge, linking research directions with the interests of social powers, and ignoring transformative criticism. As a result, sometimes what was treated in the Mertonian science as a threat or an offense against the ethos of science turns out to be the rational behavior of an entrepreneur operating on the market of epistemic goods and services. Academic industrial science is also unable to fulfil non-instrumental roles in society (shaping worldviews, supporting social rationality, providing independent experts) that academic science performed. Attempts to prevent these problems or threats will be doomed to failure in advance, because countermeasures are based on a different understanding of knowledge itself.

In these remarks I make the attempt to sketch a battle which in the time span of many centuries had been led by the academic community with the internal and external threats. The first ones included (and still do in large extent) among others interfering in the conducted scientific research by the Church authorities. The latter ones on the other hand included crossing the boundary of science and stepping into the territory infested by all sorts of pseudoscience. Although I recall here just the example of such pseudoscience such as alchemy, but nevertheless it shows well how hard it was and still is for scholars to set these boundaries and not to cross them. In the end of the paper I formulate certain general remarks and suggestions related to the issues tackled in the text.

The purpose of this article is to present a multifaceted analysis concerning methodology proceedin-gs in recruitment procedures for researchers. Theoretical considerations are complemented by concusions of an empirical study. The role of scientificinstitutions and values applicable in the scientificcommunity in light of popularized theories are analyzed first.Additionally, reference is made to the principles enshrined in the code of ethics of Poland’s National Research and Development Centre.Then are discussed recommended patterns of conduct which have been recorded in the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, paying particu-lar attention to issues relating to openness and fairness of proceedings and equal treatment.The next part of the work discusses legal regulations applicable to the employment of academics at Polish universities. It looks closely into the differences that apply to employees at public and private universities, which can be considered from the point of view of legal provisions relating to the prin-ciple of equal treatment enshrined in the Constitution of the Republic of Poland.The subsequent part of study is devoted to the conclusions of an empirical study covering the compe-tition proceedings relating to the employment of academic staff at public universities. The methodo-logy of the examination procedure is thoroughly explained and interim research questions concerning the specific issues and problems closely related to the analyzed subject are presented

The 21st century brings new challenges for the society and every human being. Although today’s Europe is in the process of strengthening and enlarging its economic and political union, it seems to suffer from a profound crisis of values. Therefore, it is very important to have a proper perception and understanding of contemporary challenges for education and pedagogy. This might results in going through the effective learning processes, which enable a human being to function properly in his/her private and professional life. For all these reasons, the author of this article shows various aspects of scientific and didactic activities undertaken by the academic staff of the Faculty of Theology, Section in Tarnów, which is an integral part of the Pontifical University of John Paul II in Cracow. A short historical sketch of establishment of the Faculty of Theology, Section in Tarnów enable to embed the academic work of this Faculty in specific realities and conditions.

Postrzegając autonomię uniwersytetów jako zjawisko służące rozwojowi szkolnictwa wyższego, autor przedstawia główne elementy „międzynarodowego kontekstu” przemian zachodzących w organizacji szkolnictwa wyższego i badań we Francji (tzn. najważniejsze działania i dokumenty takich instytucji i organizacji jak UNESCO, OECD, Rada Europy, konferencje europejskich ministrów ds. szkolnictwa wyższego i badań naukowych). Pamiętając o założeniach Strategii Lizbońskiej, prezentuje główne cele francuskiego systemu szkolnictwa wyższego i badań naukowych, opisuje mechanizmy służące rozwojowi tego systemu, a następnie analizuje zagadnienie autonomii akademickiej oraz jej wpływu na wydajność szkół wyższych w ich działalności dydaktycznej i badawczej. Artykuł kończą postulaty dotyczące poprawy efektywności szkół wyższych i instytucji badawczych we Francji.
While perceiving the autonomy of universities as conducive to the development of higher education, the author presents key elements of the ‘international context’ of transformations which take place in the organisation of higher education and research in France (i.e. the most important steps and documents issued by such institutions/organisations as UNESCO, OECD, Council of Europę or conferences of European ministers responsible of higher education and research). With the Lisbon Strategy in mind, the author presents the main goals of the French system of higher education and research, describes the mechanisms which are conducive to its development and then goes on to analyse the problem of academic autonomy and its impact on the efficiency of HE institutions in their teaching and research functions. The paper ends with postulates to improve the efficiency of higher education and research institutions in France.

Przeprowadzone badania są ewaluacją sondażu wykonanego w 2013 r. Ankieta miała na celu sprawdzenie poziomu satysfakcji użytkowników Biblioteki Politechniki Lubelskiej. W ankiecie zawarto pytania dotyczące m.in. jakości usług poszczególnych agend, oferty biblioteki, oczekiwań wobec bibliotekarzy oraz form działalności Biblioteki.
The conducted research is an evaluation of a survey conducted in 2013. The survey was intended to gauge the level of satisfaction of the users of the Lublin University of Technology Library. The survey contains questions regarding, among other things, the quality of services of particular branches, the resources and programme of the library, the expectations about the librarians, and the forms of activity of the Library.
Проведенные исследования являются частью опроса проведенного в 2013 г. Его главная цель – узнать уровень удовлетворения пользователей Библиотеки Политехники в Люблине. W artykule przedstawiono historię polskich badań nad językiem, literaturą, kulturą i historią Białorusinów, a także przybliżono działalność najważniejszych ośrodków uniwersyteckich, w których prowadzone były, począwszy od 1956 r., studia białorutenistyczne: Katedry Białorutenistyki Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego, Katedry Filologii Białoruskiej oraz Katedry Kultury Białoruskiej Uniwersytetu w Białymstoku, Zakładu Białorutenistyki Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej oraz Instytutu Filologii Słowiańskiej Katolickiego Uniwersytetu Lubelskiego Jana Pawła II. Zarysowano ponadto najważniejsze kierunki aktualnie prowadzonych badań naukowych oraz zarysowano perspektywy rozwoju naukowej białorutenistycznej refleksji językoznawczej i literaturoznawczej. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na publikacje monograficzne i prace dokumentacyjne prowadzone przez polskich badaczy-slawistów, które miały najistotniejszy wpływ na kształtowanie się i rozwój współczesnej refleksji białorutenistycznej w Polsce.
This article traces the history of Polish research on the language, literature, culture and history of the Belarusians. It also looks at the activities of the most important university centres where, since 1956, Belarusian studies have been conducted: the Department of Belarusian Studies at the University of Warsaw, the Department of Belarusian Philology and the Department of Belarusian Culture at the University of Bialystok, the Faculty of Belarusian Studies at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, as well as the Institute of Slavic Philology at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. This work not only depicts the most significant areas of current research, but also presents the prospects of the development of academic Belarusian linguistics and literary reflection. Particular attention is paid to those monographs and documentary publications led by Polish researchers which have had the most influence on the development and progress of contemporary Belarusian studies in Poland.

Rozważania dotyczą bibliotek akademickich oraz nauki w znaczeniubadań naukowych. Obydwa obszary – biblioteka i nauka – od prawie 30 lat znajdują się w procesie przemian określanych ostatnio mianem transformacji cyfrowej. Nauka tworzy nowoczesne technologie cyfrowe, a te z kolei zmieniają ją samą przez dostarczanie nowych narzędzi i metod badawczych oraz sposobów komunikacji. Z kolei zadaniem bibliotek jest dopasowanie się do nauki i nadążanie za jej oczekiwaniami w zapewnieniu potrzebnej do badań literatury i informacji. Podstawowe pytaniebrzmi: czy biblioteka i nauka są dziś na tym samym torze transformacji cyfrowej?
My considerations concern the group of scientific libraries such as academic libraries, and the science in the sense of scientific research. Both areas – library and science – have been in the process of transformation, last known as the digital transformation, for almost 30 years. Science creates modern digital technologies, which in turn change science itself by providing new tools, research methods, and the ways of communication. Libraries’ task is to keep pace with science and to keep up with its expectations in providing the literature and information needed for research. The basic question is whether library and science are on the same path of digital transformation?
