Opis:
The article focuses on blogs related to research activities of the academic community. Research-related blogs as components of university websites have developed into an array of sub-genres shaped by specific foci, their authors and the desired audiences. The data set consists of fifty posts from ten blogs of six universities. Drawing upon Swales’ methodology of genre analysis, the study explores the generic structure of the blog posts, reveals the communicative purposes they can fulfil within the landscape of university websites, identifies significant communication strategies, and explores the roles the blogs may serve in communicating science to the diverse audiences they potentially address. The analysis has shown that the blogs help accomplish the general goals of informing about the university and promoting it providing a personalized view and engaging the reader, manifest loose but recurrent generic structuring, and can be vehicles of knowledge dissemination as well as knowledge construction.

The fact of obtaining German Eastern territories to the Oder-Neisse line ( including Szczecin), which actually meant the shift of the border almost to Central Germany, unleashed enormous journalistic and research energy. The authors of numerous articles published in periodicals and brochures, and later in authoritative analysis and research monographs, tried to make a Polish reader familiar with the issues connected with the territories newly incorporated into the Polish state. The outstanding experts of the "western" issues - a historian Zygmunt Wojciechowski, a geographer Eugeniusz Romer, as well as economists and economic activists like Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski - spoke, often emotionally but reasonably, about the real (not only ideological) significance of the inclusion of large German territories into the Republic of Poland. The initial activity (in the first postwar years) was above all informative and propagandist. Shortly afterwards, it was substituted by a number of authoritative scientific publications. They tried - sine ira et studio – to prove historical naturalness and necessity of taking back previous German territories by Poland. However, it should be noted that the publications consistently emphasized only Polish arguments.
Fakt uzyskania wschodnich ziem niemieckich po linię Odry (ze Szczecinem) i Nysy Łużyckiej, co oznaczało de facto przesunięcie granicy niemal do Niemiec środkowych, wyzwolił w Polsce ogromna energię publikacyjną i badawczą. Autorzy bardzo licznych artykułów w periodykach i broszurach, a następnie w poważnych analizach i monografiach naukowych starali się przybliżyć polskiemu czytelnikowi jakże często dla niego niemal zupełnie nieznaną problematykę ziem dopiero co włączonych do państwa polskiego. Wybitni znawcy problematyki „zachodniej”, historyk Zygmunt Wojciechowski, geograf Eugeniusz Romer, a także ekonomiści i działacze gospodarczy o ugruntowanym dorobku, jak Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, wypowiadali się – nierzadko emocjonalnie, ale i racjonalnie – na temat faktycznego (a nie tylko ideologicznego) znaczenia włączenia do kadłubowej Rzeczypospolitej dużych obszarów niemieckich. Początkowa, w pierwszych latach powojennych, działalność przede wszystko informacyjna i propagandowa w okresie nieco późniejszym została zastąpiona szeregiem poważnych opracowań naukowych. Starały się one - sine ira et studio - ale – co trzeba zauważyć – z niezmiennym podkreślaniem polskich jedynie racji – uzasadnić historyczną naturalność i konieczność objęcia „na powrót” przez Polskę dotychczasowych terenów niemieckich.”

This paper aims at investigating whether the linguistic strategies and features generally attributed to academic discourse are reflected in the texts of online academic job postings, and if so, to what degree such elements make academic job ads different from their corporate counterparts. This corpus-based study focuses on job advertisements understood as samples of written academic and corporate discourses. The function that academic job postings perform for academic communities may be considered parallel to the role that recruitment ads announcing business-related positions play in corporate communities. This functional homogeneity is reflected in numerous similarities between the textual strategies used in both sub-corpora. The more ‘academic’ character of academic job postings manifests itself primarily through a higher degree of grammatical formality, and limited use of the personal voice and explicit persuasion.

Szczególną uwagę poświęcono potrzebie współpracy między wykładowcą a studentem poprzez wykorzystywanie optymalnych rozwiązań dydaktycznych, dostosowanych do możliwości studentów w sytuacji pojawiających się trudności na płaszczyźnie językowej.
Academic lectures are implemented as a basic genre in developing students’ disciplinary knowledge in higher education settings. Frequently appearing in their traditional monologic form, they tend to be more interactive nowadays, due to the use of a variety of activities that accompany them, including new technologies. With the internationalization of higher education, numerous lecture attendees are now multilingual students learning through the medium of a non-native language. The aim of this paper is to explore the most vital issues that emerge when lectures are delivered to non-native students at lower language proficiency level so as to enable them to meet their study goals as well as develop their intellectual and language potential. The author argues for the need of effective collaboration between lecturers and their students, based on a better understanding of the complexity of the instructional situation in which students’ language problems can be dealt with by making appropriate adjustments that can improve both lecture comprehensibility and knowledge acquisition.

Artykuł ma na celu wskazanie konieczności nauczania, głównie na akademickich kursach języka polskiego jako obcego, wypowiedzi reprezentujących polskie gatunki akademickie. Dużą grupę uczących się stanowią kandydaci na studia i studenci-cudzoziemcy, zdobywający wykształcenie wyższe w Polsce. Będąc częścią polskiej wspólnoty akademickiej powinni być dobrze przygotowani do recepcji i produkcji gatunków wypowiedzi stosowanych w dyskursie akademickim. W artykule przedstawiona została genologiczna analiza artykułu naukowego, będącego podstawowym gatunkiem w tym dyskursie. Uwzględniając obowiązujące w tym zakresie przepisy i zalecenia z odnośnych poradników, przedstawiono opis gatunku w oparciu o teorię gatunku Johna Swalesa i koncepcję wzorca gatunkowego Marii Wojtak. Autorka zachęca, by glottodydaktycy polonistyczni zwracali uwagę uczących się na wszystkie aspekty wzorca: strukturalny, pragmatyczny, poznawczy i językowy, a także pokazywali różne warianty gatunku: jego postać kanoniczną oraz warianty alternacyjne i adaptacyjne. Mimo dużej unifikacji wypowiedzi, należy podkreślać kulturowe uwarunkowania i wykładniki gatunkowe. 
The article aims to emphasise the teaching of utterances representing Polish academic genres, mainly on academic courses of Polish as a foreign language. A large group of learners consists of candidates to Polish universities and foreign students pursuing education in Poland. Being part of the Polish academic community they should be well prepared for the reception and production of genres of speech used in academic discourse. The article presents a genological analysis of a scientific article constituting the basic genre in this discourse. Considering the binding regulations and recommendations included in appropriate textbooks, the author proposes a description of the genre based on the genre theory of John Swales and the concept of the genre pattern of Maria Wojtak. The author recommends teachers of Polish as a foreign language to focus their students’ attention on all aspects of the pattern: structural, pragmatic, cognitive and linguistic, and also show them different variants of the genre: its canonic as well as alternative and adaptive forms. In spite of the high uniformity of utterances, the cultural environment and exponents of the genre should be highlighted.

Antropocen jako przedmiot akademickiego dyskursu staje się jeszcze jednym obiektem antropcentrycznej kategorezy. Narastająca treść teoretyczna nie ma szans wpłynąć zasadniczo na przebudowę myślenia w czasie wystarczającym, aby odegrała istotną rolę w przeciwdziałaniu degradacji planety. Czy niejawna samowiedza wzbierającego gwałtownie dyskursu – i jego coraz częstszy fatalizm – tę niemożność przewiduje? A może więcej: w istocie pozostaje sceptyczna wobec szans na takie przeciwdziałanie, dekretując niejako katastroficzny scenariusz? Swoje wątpliwości formułuję z perspektywy teoretyczki literatury i komunikacji, a zarazem aktywistki ruchu Extinction Rebellion.
The anthropocene, as an object of academic discourse, becomes just another object of anthropocentric categoresis. The increasing theoretical content has no chance of achieving a significant transformation of thinking in sufficient time for it to play a relevant role in counteracting planetary degradation. Does the implicit self‑knowledge of this rapidly spreading discourse – and its frequent fatalism – predict this inability? Or maybe more: does it, in fact, remain sceptical about the chances of such counteraction, declaring a kind of catastrophic scenario? I formulate my doubts from the perspective of a literary and communication theoretician and an activist in the Extinction Rebellion movement.

The aim of the study reported in this article was to identify the knowledge or skills deficits which make Polish students of foreign languages fail to understand specialised discourse written in their second language (L2). The author analysed the translations proposed by French philology students for a fragment of a French academic text, particularly the translation errors consisting in source text’s meaning transformation (i.e. misinterpretation, incorrect meaning, nonsense). The analysis allows to assume that these errors are the direct result of insufficient knowledge of the L2 in connection with wrong techniques of words’ meaning verification.

The academic character of the article is connected with the attempt to answer the question asked in the title: Utopia without the law – is it possible? The theoretical arguments provided by the author lead to an affirmative answer to this question and allow for formulating the following thesis: there is no utopia without the law. The law is not only present in utopias, both positive and negative ones (anti-utopias and dystopias) but also, to a great extent, determines their existence and functioning. As a result, it links utopian thinking to reality. Any answer to this question is possible and justifiable in the academic discourse. According to the author of this article not only the law is present in the utopia but the law in the utopia must exist. The essence of the law in utopias is justice, but there is not justice in utopias without wisdom. The Bible, Roman law and philosophical and legal reflection were the sources of an approach to law for the creators of utopia. Referring to the views of such thinkers as: Plato, Immanuel Kant, Rudolf von Ihering, Gustav Radbruch, Karl R. Popper, Bronisław Baczko, the author states that the law is an integral part of both worlds: the utopian world and real world. So, there is not utopia without the law as an idea of jusctice, implemented into the social life of the people who are intelligent beings.
Charakter naukowo-dydaktyczny artykułu wiąże się z próbą odpowiedzi na postawione w tytule pytanie o to, czy możliwa jest utopia bez prawa. Argumenty teoretyczne podane przez autora prowadzą do udzielenia odpowiedzi twierdzącej, a zarazem tezy, iż nie ma w gruncie rzeczy utopii bez prawa. Prawo nie tylko jest obecne w utopiach, zarówno pozytywnych, jak i negatywnych (antyutopiach i dystopiach), lecz także w znaczącym stopniu decyduje o ich istnieniu i funkcjonowaniu. W rezultacie wiąże to myślenie utopijne z rzeczywistością. Każda odpowiedź na powyższe pytanie jest więc możliwa i w dyskursie naukowym zasadna. Jednakże autor uzasadnia, że w przypadku zdecydowanej większości utopii społecznych jakieś prawo zazwyczaj obowiązuje, a nawet musi w nich być. Istotą prawa w utopiach jest bowiem sprawiedliwość, a tej nie ma bez mądrości. Taki właśnie stosunek do prawa przejawia się w Biblii. Takie przesłanie niosą również zasady prawa rzymskiego oraz wynika ono z filozoficzno-prawnej refleksji. Przywołując poglądy m.in. Platona, Immanuela Kanta, Rudolfa von Iheringa, Gustava Radbrucha, Karla R. Poppera i Bronisława Baczko, autor wskazuje na prawo jako ważny element świata utopii, który je współtworzy, podobnie jak ma wpływ na rzeczywistość. Nie ma zatem utopii bez prawa jako idei sprawiedliwości wcielanej w życie społeczne ludzi będących istotami rozumnymi.

The article is devoted to the part of the academic discourse dedicated the educational results. The aim of the study is to present the linguistic means which serve for such purpose. The analyze encompasses such formal realization of the predicate structures as nominal phrases including nominalizations, nouns and adjectives. Special attention is paid to mental predicates which are realized by intellectual verbs on the formal level. The conducted study is placed among the works from the fields of stylistics, semantics, syntax as well as in the area of the discourse analyses.

The study examines the role that exemplification plays in academic discourse. As the latest approaches emphasize, discourse is an interactional activity involving as participants both the writer and the reader. In order to ensure the proper understanding of his/her message, writers make use of different discourse strategies such as reformulation, specification, generalization or elaboration. We focus on how exemplification, viewed as the satellite, contributes to the better recognition of the subject matter, which is understood as the nucleus. In the first two sections of the study, we present an overview of discourse relations which call for the use of constructions applied in exemplification. The second part, which is based on the linguistic material obtained from a close scrutiny of two classic articles from the field of linguistics and one linguistic textbook, is devoted to the description of how exemplification contributes to specification and elaboration. We try to find and describe the specific relations, for example set-member, whole-part, process-step and object-attribute which hold between the nucleus and the satellite. Finally, we attempt at listing discourse areas which call for exemplification. The study illustrates that what are known as separate discourse relations are in fact closely related.

The paper is a reflection on the development of academic literacy skills in French and Polish while writing a diploma paper in glottodidactics by Polish third year ethnolinguistics students. The first part of the paper focuses on a diploma paper in glottodidactics as an important component of philological education at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Next, the author analyses the concept of epistemological consciousness and its impact on the development of student autonomy during the acquisition of glottodidactic discourse and glottodidactic knowledge as a specialist knowledge which they gain. The author’s conception, referring to writing research papers in line with the principles of glottodidactics as a research field, is based on the assumption that students should become aware of the epistemological specifics of glottodidactics and include them both in the form and the content of their diploma papers. Finally, the author discusses various stages in the development of students’ epistemological consciousness and looks into the processesthe supervisor needs to engage in for effective research supervision

The paper concerns the problem of axiology exponents in the Polish academic discourse of the 16th century. The research proved that this kind of exponents refer to different discourse levels, from the topic of the discourse, through the field of science, to metatext. As for language determinants one can distinguish evaluating lexis, modal verbs and style exponents (e.g. comparisons, phraseological constructions, enumera- tions). The analysis shows that the subjective aspect of the texts confirms the initial stage of the Polish academic discourse forming process. Furthermore, the style diversity reflects the discourse state which was then rather practical than theoretical.

Opis:
Koncepcja działań pozornych Jana Lutyńskiego została wykorzystana w tym artykule jako perspektywa teoretyczna stanowiąca pewną propozycję odróżnienia komunikatów pozornych i autentycznych. Dodatkowo, autorka powołała się na schemat stworzony przez badaczy Krytycznej Analizy Dyskursu z kręgu Normana Fairclougha, dzięki któremu możliwa jest analiza języka działań pozornych. W głównej części artykułu znajduje się analiza dyskursu dwóch promocyjnoreklamowych informatorów odnoszących się do dwóch przykładowych instytucji systemu szkolnictwa wyższego w Polsce. Jej rezultaty wskazują na bardziej ogólne w skali społecznej zjawisko konflacji porządku wartości akademickich i wartości komercyjnych, które z kolei wydaje się być konsekwencją zmian w systemie władzy, kontroli i ideologii, jakie zachodzą we współczesnych społeczeństwach.
Within this article, Jan Lutynski’s concept of apparent action serves as a theoretical frame for distinguishing apparent and authentic communication. Additionally, Norman Fairclough’s approach has been incorporated to permit the analysis of the language of apparent action. The discourse analysis of two higher education advertisements highlights the more general phenomenon of the conflation of academic and commercial values, which the author considers further as consequences of the changes in power, control and ideology of contemporary society.

The article refers to the theory of colour, the theory of perception, contemporary media morphosis and the postulates of multimedia stylistics. The author undertakes the presented deliberations for two reasons. Perception, remembering and learning are important for the teaching process at the university regardless of the passage of time. Both the lecturer and the student are interested in the effective acquisition of content. Multimodality as an attribute of the prevailing products of contemporary culture should be the subject of interest for discourse linguistics. The author’s research goal is to examine the effectiveness of font colours used in academic Power Point slides. In a multimedia presentation as a form of a lecture, a public reception takes place, alongside listening with reading and watching. The synergy of the spoken word and the bit-based text occurs. The author puts forward the claim that colour can be a factor in supporting or losing the listener’s directional attention. The second claim is that a colourful area, or a background for a printed text, is different from the colour of the font used in a text that students are required to read and watch from a distance. When the lecturer stands in front of the audience, they can manage its attention through various means. One of them is visualization in the form of the font colour choice within the slide. The article is a proposal of a certain type of research, but the author also presents the results of an experiment. Its results allow to reject the dominant role of the text placed on the slide. Some students correctly recalled the information conveyed only in the spoken form.

Opis:
This article deals with Stanisław Barańczak’s playful approach to the theory of literature, presented in his book Pegaz zdębiał. Poezja nonsensu a życie codzienne: Wprowadzenie w prywatną teorię gatunków (first edition: London, 1995). The author, inspired by the tradition of literary nonsense and so-called academic humour, creates ‘a private theory of literary genres’ that combines two different linguistic modes: 1. an abstract scientific jargon of structuralism, along with its professional terminology, and 2. a metaphorically-oriented style, relying on visual effects, as well as evoking humour by the contrast with academic discourse. In Barańczak’s treatment, theory becomes a juggler’s prop, which he applies to showcase his sophistication and ingenuity. Like a prestidigitator, the author performs tricks in order to grant his readers an illusion of a scientifically deep fictive theory, with such methods as his multiplication of generic phenomena, presented through excessively detailed classification, enormously long footnotes, the description of generic rules resembling a culinary show, and extravagant, bizarre literary terms. He thus reveals the comical potential of theoretical discourse, turning the theoretical into the theatrical.
Wirtuozerskie umiejętności Stanisława Barańczaka, o których wielokrotnie pisano, komentując jego twórczość literacką i translatorską, znajdują potwierdzenie również w sposobie posługiwania się przez niego dyskursem (quasi)naukowym, konstruowanym na potrzeby intelektualnej zabawy. Osobliwym tego przykładem jest „prywatna teoria gatunków” wyłożona w książce Pegaz zdębiał (I wyd. w 1995 r.), w odniesieniu do której formuła kuglarskiego seansu, oznaczająca pewną odmianę sztuki zręcznościowo- magicznej, stanowić może istotne narzędzie interpretacji. Stosowane przez Barańczaka efektowne techniki oddziaływania na wyobraźnię odbiorcy („żonglowanie” teoretycznymi pomysłami, triki służące budowaniu naukowej iluzji, użycie zaskakujących form obrazowania w charakterze budzących podziw rekwizytów, symulowanie obfitującego w dziwności spektaklu) tworzą atmosferę niezwykłości, typową dla prestidigitatorsko- iluzjonistycznych praktyk.
