Opis:: A purpose of the article is to provide characteristics of comparisons appearing in Juliusz Słowacki’s poems exemplified by the constructions where comparans refers to the world of animals. Lexical material has been excerpted from eleven works written by J. Słowacki in the pre-mystic period. They include the following poems: Arab, Beniowski (songs I–V), Jan Bielecki, Lambro, Mnich, Ojciec zadżumionych, Podróż do Ziemi Świętej z Neapolu, Poema Piasta Dantyszka,Wacław, W Szwajcarii and Żmija. Non-gradation comparative structures possessing standard comparison indicators have been analyzed. The article mainly focused on: 1) discussing a formal shape of studied constructions, 2) semantic classification of comparans contained in comparisons referring us to the animal kingdom, 3) emphasizing multitude of “animal” lexis connotations used by the poet, 4) discussing basic subject areas the excerpted comparisons belong to with regard to the meaning of a descriptive chunk, and 5) the most important functions of these clues. It has been established that the analyzed comparative constructions have an explicitly anthropocentric character since they, most of all, serve a suggestive illustration of a human’s psycho-physical condition.

Opis:: Cross-disciplinary transfer of knowledge appears to be one of the vital processes and an important task to undertake. This article shows that the transfer in the field of broadly understood stylistics, textology and language communication in the light of Polish studies does exist within the boundaries of the Slavic cultural circle. This has been happening thanks to, among others, initiatives by Professor Stanis³aw Gajda, one of the prominent figures of the Polish language and literature science. The first part outlines professor Gajda’s academic profile, focusing on the most prominent output and forms of academic activities, the second part, consequently introduces the Professor’s selected ideas and thoughts, with comments and interpreta- tions intended specifically for the German-speaking audience. Three works, covering complex academic problems, have been given special attention as representatives of the Author’s research: Presti¿ a jêzyk [Prestige and Language] (2010), Styl jako humanis- tyczna struktura tekstu [Style as the Humanistic Structure of a Text] (1983) and Teoria stylu i stylistyka [The Style Theory and Stylistics] (2013). In all these works the thoughts expressed by the Author are truly inspiring: he takes into account apparently distant approaches and leads the reader to find for them a common goal, through integrating different areas. The first dissertation deals with the complex understanding of discourse in the Polish language studies, connects the notion of prestige functioning in various academic disciplines with the theory of discourse and presents it in a multi-faceted manner, inspiring discussions about other discourse categories. The most prominent notion of the second work cited above, that is “style as a humanistic structure of a text” has already earned the status of canonical in stylistics. The Author claims that the notion of humanistic structure with reference to any text remains valid, and consequently, the style is an unalienable feature of a text, then the humanistic structure of a text is a natural result of this reasoning. This implication seems obvious, though professor Gajda’s approach seems influential in terms of various context of style research. In the third work the Author stresses that the main objective of the theory of style as an academic discipline is to create a comprehensive idea of a style, encompassing references to various traditions and directions of study.

Opis:: Testament in the Polish culture is an administrative-legal genre, accomplished in its own style of the genre, based on the official and legal style. In the stylistic aspect it shows authoritarianism, impersonality, templatedness and meticulousness of expression. As an example of the legal discourse it tends to be unambiguous, logical, concrete, and it contains specialist terminology related to dispositions of the estate in contemplation of death. It refers manly to the material sphere of life, yet it implies abundance of various hidden feelings: love, gratitude, attachment, hatred, contempt, or revenge. The most popular and expansive type of the genre is a notarial will executed in the form of a notarial deed. Holographic wills are realized more freely, with use of elements of colloquial style, may include expressive speech acts or take the form of an informal letter. The stylistic form of allographic and oral wills is similar to a report. Notarial testaments are becoming dominant and influence the linguistic shape of all other types of the genre. Lack of legal verbosity in a document, while meeting the requirement concerning appointment of an heir, date and testator’s signature, does not invalidate the legal force of the utterance.

Opis:: The paper deals with learning styles and their initial diagnostics in the process of the student’s learning. It is focused on a method of learning styles recognition with the support of modern information technologies. The paper analyses different methods of the learning styles diagnostics, incorporating this issue into the scientific field of artificial intelligence and presents an idea on how to diagnose a learning style by using an unconventional fuzzy logic linguistic expert system. The expert system was designed to diagnose learning styles of university students in adaptive computer aided learning systems. A significant benefit is continuous numerical evaluation of the student’s degree of affiliation to all learning categories (types of student) with a possibility of simple determination of dominant and subdominant types, the use of a linguistic rule-based decision-making model, which is completely transparent and open, and the use of a decision-making procedure corresponding to the process of human consideration. The paper is an example of an application of modern information technologies in education.

Opis:: In the paper concerning the new approaches in the study of Greek sculptural production at first the author considers the problem of putting the ancient artefacts with the modern works of art on the same level and the need for the new conceptualisation of them. In the next step she outlines historiography of the Greek sculpture with the particular reference to the study on its stylistic development. Further on the author presents selected, new approaches in the study on Greek sculpture, the ones which are breaking the long tradition of research on them, rooted in the Enlightenment and Hegelian thought and historicism. She focusses on the results of these research which shift the interpretative emphasis from the relation between the image/sculpture and its model to that of the image and its viewer.

Opis:: A life of signs in the network of codes. On semiotically-oriented studies of discourse and style (an analysis of the sign “Croatian nation”)In the article a semiotic theory of style and discourse is developed. According to some author’s previous research and theories by Bakhtin, Eco and Uspienski, the idea of overlapping of signs and codes is discussed. The sign-vehicle “Croatian nation” is taken into consideration in various contexts and various interlocutors (from Croatian literature, press and scholarly books). The result of such an investigation is aimed to empirically prove to what extent usual semantic interpretation deprives the whole meaning of texts.

Opis:: The objective of this study was an attempt at evaluating the management style applied to a sports team by its coach as perceived by sixteen to eighteen year old male and female volleyball players. The criterion of sex is a significant factor in assessing the management style for the sports team as chosen by the coach. The assessment is probably the result of physical, physiological, and psychological differences between young men and women. Mutual relations seen in communications as well as atmosphere present during training and in the approach to team problems is determined by management style. The management style model should take into account the expectations of players, both male and female, not exclusively methods, forms, and means making possible good results. The role of the coach in the training process is not limited to rationalizing management decisions, but also in care over the implementation of coaching competencies.
Celem badań była próba oceny stylu kierowania zespołem sportowym przez trenera w świadomości 16-18-letnich siatkarek i siatkarzy. Kryterium płci jest istotnym czynnikiem w ocenie stylu kierowania zespołem sportowym przez trenera. Ocena ta prawdopodobnie wynika z różnic fizycznych, fizjologicznych i psychologicznych pomiędzy młodymi kobietami i mężczyznami. Wzajemne relacje przejawiające się w komunikacji i atmosferze panującej na treningach oraz w podejściu do rozwiązywania problemów zespołu determinowane są stylem kierowania. Model stylu kierowania powinien uwzględniać oczekiwania zawodniczek i zawodników, a nie wyłącznie metody, formy i środki pozwalające uzyskiwać wysokie wyniki sportowe. Rolą trenera w procesie szkoleniowym jest nie tylko racjonalizacja decyzji kierowniczych, ale również dbałość o realizację kompetencji trenerskich.

Opis:: The article analyzes Wincenty Pol’s penitential psalms. The paraphrases have been considered in the context of stylistic features of the Psalter biblical style. In result of the analysis it has been concluded that W. Pol, the Bible’s translator, accurately renders systemic features of the Psalter style (syntactic and lexical-idiomatic). It is still characterized by “traditionalism and absolute lack of innovation” mentioned by the critics (Łoboz 2004: 7). Nevertheless, with regard to religious texts, this objection may be perceived as peculiar praise.
