    Opis:
    The author of the article discusses the name of the food product MAKARą in the context of unlimited rights of proper names. According to the traditional view, a proper name denotes only and has no meaning, although this theory is undermined in the light of new linguistic phenomena. Lots of chrematonyms has also an advertising function, some of them basing on appelatives and being created in such a way the relation between an appeletive and a proper name could be readable. This is in case of MAKARą derived from makaron (English noodle) with the transforming of spelling and pronunciation. Regardless of whether the pragmatic effect of the name is successful, from the point of view of the system of Polish language the name brings a lot of trouble. It is not accentuated in accordance with the rules of Polish stress and it cannot be inflected. Its form does not allow to decide about its grammatical gender unamibiguously and when spelt according to the Polish spelling rules {Makarą), loses its advertising power. There is also an ethical aspect of the discussed name - because of its deceptive form, namely the ending -ą. It can have bad influence on the correctness of language. This is because there are specific troubles connected with the pronunciation and spelling of nasal vowels and the group consisting of a vowel and a nasal consonant and the mistakes in this area are still common. The example of the name discussed prompts the author to reflect on whether creating proper names should be at least in some way restricted.

    Opis:
    Proper names are a relatively stable part of the cultural landscape and cultural traditions that were shaped for decades and centuries. They reflect cultural and social development, the development of spiritual culture, ethnic conditions and relations, language and dialects. This study addresses proper names as psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic elements whose formation and behavior are connected to the onymic space as well as its users. The author presents some circumstances affecting the common cultural values of proper names from the developmental aspect. The cultural and historical value of proper names is evaluated in relation to the objects motivating the names, and their significance to the name-givers. The language competencies of the society, and the modus operandi of proper names are also taken into account in the evaluation. Such values are reflected even in the current use of proper names and the relations of the community to them. The proper name represents the human connection to the place where an individual lives, it is an expression of this relationship and thus presents a peculiar anthropological phenomenon. It is important from the bottom-up perspective of users of the proper name within a regional onymic system. This study addresses the types of changes in oykonyms influenced by political and social changes and their impact on the social value of a proper name, its functions, motivational and communication potential of unofficial historical names. The author understands the proper name as part of tradition, culture and universal human heritage.

    The appellativisation of a given name, especially when related to its stigmatisation, is not frequent in Polish. All the more amazing is the rapid career of the name Janusz as an appellative. The phenomenon was first apparent in such phrases as janusze plaży or janusze polskiej gospodarki, used on the Internet and in the print media in the early 2010s, with a clear peak of the popularity of this type of phraseology observed in 2015. The names of Janusz’s wife Grażyna or of his son Seba (Sebastian) have not yet been appellativised, but they also create an image of “typical Poles”, overusing beach windscreens, wearing socks with sandals, stealing pencils from Ikea or trying to impress their neighbours at all costs. Based on an analysis of corpus-type data, this article attempts to explain why this name has become a symbol of the shameful traits of Poles, what associations it evokes, and to what degree it has been subject to appellativisation.
    Apelatywizacja imienia, zwłaszcza wiążąca się z jego stygmatyzacją, nie zdarza się w języku polskim często. Tym bardziej zadziwia błyskawiczna kariera imienia Janusz jako apelatywu. Po raz pierwszy o januszach plaży czy januszach polskiej gospodarki można było przeczytać w internecie i prasie tradycyjnej bodaj na początku drugiej dekady tego wieku, przy czym wyraźny szczyt popularności tego typu frazeologizmów przypadł na rok 2015. Żona Janusza Grażyna czy syn Seba nie doczekali się jeszcze apelatywizacji swych imion, ale też kreują wizerunek typowych Polaków, odgradzających swój grajdołek plażowy parawanem, noszących skarpetki do sandałów, kradnących ołówki z Ikei czy za wszelką cenę starających się zaimponować sąsiadom. W artykule – w oparciu o analizę danych o charakterze korpusowym – podjęta zostanie próba wyjaśnienia, dlaczego akurat to imię stało się symbolem wstydliwych cech Polaków, jakie budzi skojarzenia i w jakim stopniu uległo apelatywizacji.

    The structural and semantic analysis concerning a selection of titles given to his poems by Bolesław Leśmian shows that the title constitutes as crucial an element of the text (often marginalized and ignored, though) as all the other exponents of this texts, whether relating to its content or structure. The title functions as the delimiter of the text’s beginning and as a metatext to the text itself. This is because it semantically represents the particular aspects of the text’s content and its genre. At the same time, the title also functions as a proper name, since it is unalterably linked with one and only one, concrete text. Syntactically speaking, Leśmian tends to build his titles in the form of nominative expressions as well as post-modified nominal phrases. He infrequently relies on sentences or verbless clauses. Semantically speaking, Leśmian’s titles perform the following functions: informative, descriptive, poetic, connotative and interpretative. Leśmian's titles are formally simple. This simplicity grants his poems both formal and semantic transparency, but, first of all, it gives depth to the poetic content and its interpretation. On the one hand, Leśmian’s titles are relatively grammatically uncomplicated. On the other, their content is relatively general and metaphorical. This is why his titles help the reader navigate though Leśmian’s poems, but at the same time they prevent the distortion of the original philosophical message of his works.

    Opis:
    Gottlob Frege (1848–1925) był głównie matematykiem, który chciał wzmocnić tę dyscyplinę na gruncie filozoficznym. Punktem wyjścia była analiza języka matematyki, jednak jego zainteresowania skupiały się na języku naturalnym. Dziś zasłynął nie jako matematyk, ale raczej jako filozof języka i zasługuje na miano ojca tej dyscypliny. Jego pisma są powszechnie uznawane przez filozofów i lingwistów za przełomowe prace z zakresu filozofii języka. Jego osiągnięcia docenili głównie brytyjscy filozofowie analityczni zajmujący się analizą języka. W artykule skupiam się na tej części spuścizny Fregego, która jest wciąż żywa w filozofii języka i nowożytnym językoznawstwie. W szczególności analizuję matematyczne inspiracje semantyką Fregego i konsekwencje jej zastosowania w języku naturalnym. Następnie skupiam się na związku pojęć semantycznych wprowadzonych przez Fregego z dość niejasnym pojęciem znaczenia językowego oraz wskazuję problemy, jakie pojawiają się w przypadku zastosowania semantyki Fregego do języka naturalnego. Pokrótce przedstawiam aktualne kierunki analizy języka naturalnego, które zmierzają do przezwyciężenia problemów generowanych przez teorię Frege'a.
    Gottlob Frege (1848–1925) was mainly a mathematician who wanted to reinforce this discipline on philosophical ground. The starting point was the analysis of the language of mathematics, but his interests focused on natural language. Nowadays he is not famous as mathematician but rather as a philosopher of language, and he deserves the title of the father of this discipline. His writings are widely recognized by philosophers and linguists as seminal papers in philosophy of language His achievements were appreciated mainly by British analytic philosophers who dealt with the analysis of language. In the paper I focus on the part of Frege’s legacy that is still vivid in philosophy of language and modern linguistics. I particularly analyze mathematical inspiration of Frege’s semantics and the consequences of its application to natural language. Then I focus on the relation of semantic notions introduced by Frege with a rather unclear notion of linguistic meaning, and indicate the problems that appear if Frege’s semantics is to be applied to natural language. I briefly present the current directions in the natural language analysis that tend to overcome the problems generated by Fregean theory.
