    The main object of analysis in this article is the doubly understood category of theatricality, which organizes Norwid’s reflections in the dramatic diptych titled Tyrtej–Za kulisami, and to demonstrate the influence of Norwid’s experiences with theatre on the development of the category of theatricality in these dramatic works. The poet recorded his remarks about theatre in critical writings and art. This article proposes two ways of reading his plays. The first assumes that the described events are realistically motivated because they take place in the space of nineteenth-century theatres in Warsaw and other European countries. The second involves interpreting the metaphorical and parabolic senses in the diptych, with special emphasis on passages from Dedykacja.

    Wprowadzenie do "Za kulisami" Cypriana Norwida
    Kazimierz Braun introduces his stage adaptation of Behind the Wings, a drama considered the crowning achievement of the poet/playwright, Cyprian Norwid (1821–1883). Behind the Wings is composed of two parts. The action of one part takes place in the 19th Century in Warsaw. The other is situated in ancient Greece around the 7th Century BC. Both parts are bound by the structure of “theatre within theatre”, popularized by Shakespeare in Hamlet. The Danish Prince uses the production of The Murder of Gonzago to unmask the murderer King. The hero of Behind the Wings, Omegitt, uses his play Tyrtaeus to unmask the moral degradation of his contemporaries. The action of the entire play (composed of these two parts) takes place in a theatre, where, during a carnival ball, among other attractions, Tyrtaeus is performed. Behind the Wings, as many of Norwid’s works, was not published during the author’s life time and was preserved with significant loopholes. Thus, for a production of this play the existing text must be adapted and transformed into a working scenario. The article discusses major obstacles which hinder the entrance to the great and complex dramatic edifice of Behind the Wings – such as the problems of the multitude of the characters, and the specific use of space and time by Norwid. In addition to the analysis of Behind the Wings, Kazimierz Braun recalls his own works on this play, beginning by his studies of Polish Literature at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and at the Directing Department, Warsaw’s School of Drama. During his long career he directed fifteen productions of Norwid’s texts, both in theatres and in television in Poland. A literary adaptation and a miseen-scène project of Behind the Wings prepared by Kazimierz Braun was published in a book: Cyprian Norwid, Za kulisami, opracowanie literackie i inscenizacyjne Kazimierz Braun, Wydawnictwo Pewne, Kielce 2021.

    Przedmiot analizy w niniejszym artykule stanowi podwójnie rozumiana kategoria teatralności, która organizuje Norwidowską refleksję w dyptyku dramatycznym Tyrtej-Za kulisami. W tekście wskazano wpływ kontaktów Norwida ze sceną na kształtowanie teatralności w analizowanych dramatach. Swoje doświadczenia teatralne zapisywał poeta w tekstach krytycznych, utworach artystycznych, a także transponował je na obrazy i szkice. Artykuł przedstawia dwie propozycje lektury Tyrteja i Za kulisami. Pierwsza opiera się na założeniu, że przedstawione zdarzenia mają realistyczną motywację, ponieważ rozgrywają się w przestrzeniach dziewiętnastowiecznych teatrów warszawskich oraz europejskich. Druga polega na interpretacji metaforycznych i parabolicznych sensów wpisanych w dyptyk, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem fragmentów Dedykacji.
    The main object of analysis in this article is the doubly understood category of theatricality that organizes Norwid’s reflection in a dramatic diptych called Tyrtej–Za kulisami. The present study study shows the influence of Norwid’s contacts with the scene on the shaping of theatricality in the examined plays. The poet recorded his theatrical experience in his critical writings and artistic pieces he conveyed it in his paintings and designs. The article presents two proposals of reading theatrical plays. The first assumes that the described events are realistically motivated because they take place in the space of the 19th century theatres of Warsaw and other European countries. The second proposal involves interpretation of metaphorical and parabolic senses inscribed in the diptych, with special emphasis on the extracts of Dedykacja.

    Obecność narracji autopoietycznych w trzech podstawowych modelach kultury: literackiej, audiowizualnej i cyfrowej, jest istotnym czynnikiem wpływającym na ich różnorodność i dynamiczną ewolucję opowieści o tworzeniu. Pojęcie autopoiezy wprowadzone przez neurobiologów i socjologów poszerza spektrum badań nad procesem twórczym w tekstach literackich i szerzej, kulturowych. W związku z tymi dwoma aspektami funkcjonowania autopoiesis: w tradycjach różnych mediów oraz wielu kierunkach badawczych analizujących proces tworzenia, autorka przedstawia trzy wzory modernistycznej opowieści o tworzeniu. Interpretacja Testamentu Witolda Gombrowicza prowadzi, po pierwsze, do wskazania trybu konstytuowania się narracyjnej tożsamości pisarza, po drugie, ku metaforze teatralnych kulis nadającej autopoiesis wymiar performatywny, a po trzecie, w stronę takich reguł poetyki opowieści o tworzeniu, które budują jej epifaniczną aurę.
    The presence of autothematic narratives in the three basic models of culture – literary, audiovisual and digital – is a crucial factor influencing the diversity and dynamic evolution of the story on creating. The notion of autopoiesis introduced by the neurobiologists and sociologists widens the spectrum of research on creative process in literary texts, and more broadly in texts of culture. In the connection with these two functional aspects of autopoiesis: in the traditions of different medias and multiple research directions analysing the creative process, the author presents three models of modernist novel on creating. The interpretation of Testament by Witold Gombrowicz allows us to indicate, firstly, the process of narrative identity of writer constituting itself; secondly, the metaphor of theatre’s backstage providing autopoiesis with a performative dimension; and thirdly, the poetic rules of storytelling about creation, which build up its epiphanic aura.

    Prezentowany artykuł jest rozdziałem przygotowywanej do druku przez Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Rzeszowskiego książki Kazimierza Brauna „Mój teatr Norwida”. Artykuł zawiera analizę Za kulisami Norwida z punktów widzenia historii kultury, dramatu i teatru. Odwołuje się również do doświadczeń reżyserskich autora, który sztukę tę zrealizował w Teatrze Telewizji w Warszawie (1966) i w Teatrze im. J. Słowackiego w Krakowie (1970).
    The article constitutes a chapter from the book “Mój teatr Norwida” (“My theatre of Norwid”) by Kazimierz Braun, prepared for the publication by the University of Rzeszów publishing house. The article contains the analysis of “Behind the scenes” by Norwid from the point of view of the history of culture, drama and theatre. At the same time, the article refers to the author’s experience who – as the director – staged the play at the TV Theatre in Warsaw (in 1966) and at the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Cracow (in 1970).

    The text is a review of the book entitled Poeta i myśliciel. Rozprawy i szkice o Norwidzie (A Poet and a Thinker. Studies and Sketches on Norwid) published in 2013. The book was prepared in the Center for Studies of Cyprian Norwid’s Work of the Catholic University of Lublin as the 17th item in the series “Studia i monografie” (“Studies and monographs”); it contains 13 texts written by Tadeusz Makowiecki who lived in the years 1900-1952, concerning the issues connected with the person of Norwid, with his work and its reception. The studies and sketches contained in the book were published in the years 1926-1952, but until now they were scattered in various publications. The material was collected and edited by Edyta Chlebowska and Włodzimierz Toruń. Among Makowiecki’s works published in the book texts are found with a critical character: a review of Zofia Szmydtowa’s publication Norwid wobec tradycji literackiej; an opinion about reception of the poet’s works – Z batalii o Norwida; short sketches touching the poet’s biography: T.T. Jeż a Norwid, in which the author investigated may be the first case of the poet’s life influencing literature; and Z lat szkolnych Cypriana Norwida; Makowiecki’s doctoral thesis Młodzieńcze poglądy Norwida na sztukę; articles bringing up the questions connected with the poet’s social-political views: Norwid wobec powstania styczniowego, Norwid a rok 1848; a synthetic disquisition Norwid myśliciel; the text Stygmat ruin w twórczości Norwida, referring mainly to some aspects connected with the presence of ancient motifs in the poet’s works; and finally studies containing interpretations of particular poems: “Promethidion Norwida a “Dworzanin” Górnickiego, Promethidion, Za kulisami “Tyrteja” (together with Irena Sławińska) and Fortepian Szopena. Makowiecki’s “Norwidian” works were read and appreciated even earlier, among others by Konrad Górski and Marek Buś. Despite the flow of time a considerable number of the Norwidist’s observation have not become out of date.
