Te present paper, aſter recalling some catechetical experiences related to the preparation for the VI World Youth Day in Częstochowa in 1991, centres around the possibility of taking advantage of the period of preparation for the World Youth Days, and especially for the upcoming meeting in Cracow in 2016, for the purpose of biblical catechesis directed to the young people. Te article quotes the themes of the World Youth Days 1986-2013 taken from the Bible and indicates the possible groups of topics suggested by these themes. A separate paragraph presents themes for the World Youth Days 2014-2016 due to their mutual topic concerning the Beatitudes. Next the biblical content of the catechesis intended for young people is dealt with. Te paper is concluded with some catechetical propositions related to the biblical catechesis in the context of the preparation for the XXXI World Youth Day in Cracow in the year 2016.

Many people say that World Youth Day is Pope John Paul II’s best invention. However, he used to say that it was the young people themselves who invented it. The Pope felt that the Church’s concern for the younger generations should be made known. He issued invitation to young people to come to Rome for Palm Sunday. After two gatherings, at the end of 1985 he announced the institution of the World Youth Day that was to be celebrated every year in the dioceses. The diocesan celebrations were soon joined by international gatherings. The author of this article presents World Youth Day as the Church’s Day for youth and with youth. This idea is not an alternative to ordinary youth ministry, often carried out with great sacrifice and self-denial. Indeed it intends actually to consolidate this work by offering new encouragement for commitment, objectives which foster ever greater involvement and participation. By aiming to foster greater fervour in apostolate among young people, the Church desires to make them the protagonists of an apostolate which will spread to the other ages and situations of life in the ambit of new evangelization.

John Paul II’s meetings with young people were an inspiration of World Youth Day. He wanted to encourage young people to meet God who entered into the history of the man. It was quite fast possible to behold the four fundamental dynamisms into the initiative onwhich present day meetings base. These dynamisms are christocentrism, enthusiasm, the contemplation of the cross and the affirmation of the youth. Thanks to them, World Youth Day does not confine to the one-time action, but it forms a planned activity of religious nature. In addition, it demands solid arrangements. Such a preparation was already taken in Cracow, where the young from the entire world will arrive in 2016. Despite the pastoral and catechetical materials that have been already drawn up, we cannot stand still in efforts for World Youth Day in Poland so that it becomes something more than a religious feast.
Inspiracją Światowych Dni Młodzieży były spotkania Jana Pawła II z młodymi ludźmi. Papież-Polak chciał, by w ten sposób młodzież wychodziła na spotkanie Bogu, który wszedł w dzieje człowieka. Dość szybko w inicjatywie dało się dostrzec cztery zasadnicze dynamizmy, na których do dziś opierają się spotkania. Te dynamizmy to chrystocentryzm, entuzjazm, kontemplacja krzyża i afirmacja młodości. Dzięki nim Światowe Dni Młodzieży nie ograniczają się do jednorazowej akcji, ale stanowią zaplanowaną działalność o charakterze katechetycznym. Domagają się przy tym rzetelnego przygotowania. Takie przygotowanie zostało już podjęte w Krakowie, dokąd przyjedzie młodzież z całego świata w roku 2016. Niezależnie od już opracowanych materiałów duszpasterskich i katechetycznych, nie można ustać w wysiłkach na rzecz Światowych Dni Młodzieży w Polsce, aby stały się one czymś więcej niż tylko festynem religijnym.

The article has raised the issue of the implications of papal teaching during World Youth Day in Krakow in 2016 for the youth ministry, and especially for the youth ministry in Poland. At the beginning the condition of today’s youth was shown in terms of the teaching of Pope Francis. Then, there were defined the main objectives of the pastoral care of young people based on the analysis of the Pope’s teaching. They are: assistance in meeting God, help in the discovery of the own vocation and help to make the apostolate proper to all the baptized. In the framework of these objectives there have been identified some specific, detailed tasks for clergy working with young people and their lay volunteers.
W artykule zostało poruszone zagadnienie implikacji nauczania papieskiego podczas Światowych Dni Młodzieży w Krakowie w 2016 roku dla duszpasterstwa młodzieży, a zwłaszcza dla duszpasterstwa młodzieży w Polsce. Na początku przedstawiono kondycję współczesnej młodzieży w ujęciu papieża Franciszka. Następnie, na podstawie analizy nauczania papieskiego wskazano zasadnicze cele pastoralnego towarzyszenia młodym ludziom. Są nimi: pomoc w spotkaniu Boga, pomoc w odkryciu własnego powołania oraz pomoc w podjęciu apostolatu, właściwego wszystkim ochrzczonym. W ramach tych celów zostały wskazane konkretne, szczegółowe zadania dla duchownych pracujących z młodymi ludźmi oraz ich świeckich pomocników.

Światowe Dni Młodzieży od wielu lat są jedną z największych inicjatyw duszpasterstwa młodzieżowego w Kościele. Każda edycja tego wydarzenia dotyka nowych problemów i wyzwań młodego pokolenia. W artykule autor przedstawia krótko historię Światowych Dni Młodzieży oraz analizuje treść orędzi papieża Franciszka na lata 2020-2022 w celu znalezienia myśli przewodniej dotyczącej przygotowania do lizbońskiej edycji tego spotkania. W pracy zastosowano metodę analizy i syntezy oraz metodę porównawczą. Z analizowanych poniżej orędzi papieskich wynika jasno, że czas, w którym organizowane są najbliższe Światowe Dni Młodzieży, to bardzo trudny okres dla świata i Kościoła powszechnego. Pandemia COVID-19 bowiem oraz wojna na Ukrainie odcisnęły potężne piętno na sposobie przeżywania codzienności przez współczesnego człowieka. Porównując treść poszczególnych orędzi, można również dojść do wniosku, że papież Franciszek doskonale orientuje się w sytuacji życiowej najmłodszego pokolenia, szukając sposobu rozwiązania poszczególnych wyzwań i problemów stojących przed młodzieżą.
For many years, World Youth Day has been one of the largest youth ministry initiatives in the Church. Each edition of this event touches on new problems and challenges of the young generation. In the article, the author briefly presents the history of World Youth Day and analyzes the content of Pope Francis’ messages for 2020-2022 in order to find a guiding thought for the preparation of the Lisbon edition of this meeting. The article uses the method of analysis and synthesis and the comparative method. From the papal messages analyzed below, it is clear that the time in which the upcoming World Youth Day is organized is a very difficult period for the world and the Universal Church. After all, the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine have left a powerful mark on the way modern man experiences everyday life. Comparing the content of the various messages, one can also conclude that Pope Francis is well aware of the life situation of the youngest generation, looking for a way to solve the various challenges and problems facing young people.

Światowe Dni Młodzieży zapoczątkowane przez Jana Pawła II w 1986 r. są wydarzeniem, które doczekało się wielu analiz, badań i pogłębionych studiów. Także zakończonemu spotkaniu w Krakowie w lipcu 2016 r. poświęcono już wiele uwagi, dokonano pierwszych podsumowań. W znacznie mniejszym jednak stopniu bada się sam proces przygotowania duchowego młodzieży do uczestnictwa w tak wyjątkowym wydarzeniu. Od strony duszpasterskiej ważne jest podkreślenie, że Światowe Dni Młodzieży nie są jednorazową i spektakularną akcją skierowaną do młodych, lecz stanowią jeden z etapów na drodze ich formacji duchowej. W artykule zostaje podjęta analiza programu formacyjnego zaproponowanego młodzieży polskiej przez Krajowe Duszpasterstwo Młodzieży na okres trzech lat przygotowań do Światowych Dni Młodzieży w Krakowie. Istotnymi częściami tego programu były Orędzia papieża Franciszka do młodzieży, materiały duszpasterskie przygotowane przez Krajowe Duszpasterstwo Młodzieży, peregrynacja Krzyża i Ikony ŚDM oraz ogólnopolskie inicjatywy miłosierdzia. Całościowe spojrzenie na przebytą drogę formacji pozwala dokonać ogólnego podsumowania przyjętych założeń, planów i przeprowadzonych działań duszpasterskich. Umożliwia także sformułowanie wniosków na przyszłość i wytyczenie kierunków kolejnych działań w kontekście formacji młodzieży po Światowych Dniach Młodzieży Kraków 2016.
The World Youth Days (WYD) initiated by Pope St. John Paul II in 1986 is an event that has already been analyzed, researched and extensively studied. Similarly, much attention has been focused on the Cracow event that took place in July 2016 and the first assessments have already been carried out. However, much less attention is placed on the process of spiritual preparation of young people to participate in such an important event. From the pastoral perspective it is essential to note that the World Youth Days should not be treated as a one-time spectacular campaign aimed at young people but that they constitute one of the stages of their spiritual formation. The article aims to analyze formation program offered for the Polish youth by the National Pastoral Ministry of Youth for the period of three years preceding the World Youth Days in Cracow. The crucial elements of the program were Pope Francis’s Messages for the youth, pastoral materials prepared by the National Pastoral Ministry of Youth, pilgrimage of the Cross and the Icon of the World Youth Days as well as coun-trywide mercy initiatives. A comprehensive look at the formation process will lead to a general summary of the adopted plans, programs and pastoral actions that were carried out. It also provides guidance for the future and specifies further action lines in the context of youth formation following the World Youth Days Krakow 2016.

One of the positive aspects of World Youth Day is its pedagogical influence. It encourages the integral development and directs young people at the good. It is a response to the needs of young people, it reveals before the participants a possibility to achieve an ideal of living with God. It also constitutes a help in discovering the existential meaning. World Youth Day is a good opportunity to form the human and religious morality, in a more attractive way for the young than through bans and orders. Such a treatment of young people – its situation, problems and the possibility along with the call to take an action constitutes the incentive to the personal development in a sense of responsibility for oneself, other people and the surrounding world.
Jednym z pozytywnych aspektów Światowych Dni Młodzieży jest ich oddziaływanie wychowawcze. Wspierają one integralny rozwój i ukierunkowują młodzież na dobro. Są odpowiedzią na potrzeby młodych ludzi, odsłaniając przed uczestnikami możliwy do osiągnięcia ideał życia z Bogiem. Stanowią też pomoc w odkrywaniu sensu  egzystencjalnego. Światowe Dni Młodzieży stanowią dobrą okazję do kształtowania moralności ludzkiej i religijnej, w sposób bardziej atrakcyjny dla młodych niż poprzez zakazy i nakazy. Takie potraktowanie młodzieży – jej sytuacji, problemów i możliwości wraz z wezwaniem do podjęcia działania, stanowi zachętę do rozwoju osobowego w poczuciu odpowiedzialności za siebie, innych ludzi i otaczający świat.

Terrorist attacks in Europe and the Middle East in July 2016 spread horror and fear throughout the world. Istanbul, Baghdad, Nice, Munich, Saint Etienne-du-Rouvray – only to name the most quoted in the media. Terror organisations such as Daesh, especially in the Middle East, were and are taking a heavy toll not only on people’s lives but also on their personal and collective identity, only to mention the very recent attack on the Egiptian mosque in November 2017 leaving over 300 people dead and hundrends injured. It proves that terrorists target all religious groups, including Muslims, nevertheless Christians are among the most suffering religious groups in the region. Physical violence is a major issue for Human Rights groups, but wiping out cultures and traditions with millenary roots is not a smaller challenge for the international community. However, Middle Eastern Christians, especially those of the young generation, have not lost all hope. It is true that some of them left Iraq and Syria, but many stay, hoping for a return to their homes, universities, jobs and businesses. This study aims to show the scale of persecution on Christians in the Middle East and their current legal status, but also tries to impart ideas for preserving Christianity in the region, based on the attitude of young Middle-Eastern Christians towards the issue.

This article presents a Jesuit proposal for the formation of young people coming to the World Youth Day 2016. MAGIS 2016 is the result of reflection of the Society of Jesus on how to take the opportunity of World Youth Day in order to be with the youth and at the same time prepare them to participate in it. MAGIS 2016 is organized by the Society ofJesus through its Jesuit provinces in Poland together with other religious congregations of Ignatian spirituality, secular groups and Jesuit provinces of Europe. It is coordinated by a group of Jesuits, volunteers and various teams working in different parts of Poland. The motto of MAGIS 2016 is a phrase from the Prayer for Generosity of St. Ignatius: ‘To give and not to count the cost. During MAGIS 2016, the proposed experiments are to stimulate sharing, celebrating, engaging, participation and transformation.
Artykuł przedstawia jezuicką propozycję formacji ludzi młodych przybywających na Światowe Dni Młodzieży. MAGIS 2016 to wynik refleksji Towarzystwa Jezusowego nad tym, jak wykorzystać okazję Światowych Dni Młodzieży do bycia z ludźmi młodymi i jednocześnie przygotować ich do udziału w nich. MAGIS 2016 jest organizowany przez Jezuitów, w ich polskich prowincjach, wraz z innymi zgromadzeniami zakonnymi żyjącymi duchowością ignacjańską oraz grupami świeckich i prowincjami jezuickimi w Europie. Jest on koordynowany przez grupę jezuitów, wolontariuszy oraz grupy świeckich pracujących w różnych częściach Polski. Mottem programu jest zdanie z modlitwy o hojność św. Ignacego: „dawać, a nie liczyć”. Podczas MAGIS 2016, proponowane eksperymenty są wyzwaniem do dzielenia się, świętowania, udziału oraz do zaangażowania się i przemiany.

Po wyborze na Stolicę Piotrową papież Franciszek bardzo szybko wszedł w świat młodych ludzi i zaskarbił sobie ich zaufanie. Nawiązał z nimi życzliwy, ale i wymagający dialog, który sprawił, że dla wielu stał się ważnym punktem odniesienia oraz przewodnikiem i towarzyszem po drogach wiary i życia. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przedstawienie głównych treści papieskiego nauczania skierowanego do młodzieży oraz zadań, jakie stawia Franciszek młodemu pokoleniu chrześcijan w Kościele i w świecie. Studium przedmiotu objęło analizę oficjalnych dokumentów i wypowiedzi papieża Franciszka, jakimi są coroczne orędzia na Światowy Dzień Młodzieży, homilie podczas Mszy św. w uroczystość Niedzieli Palmowej (która w Kościele obchodzona jest również jako Światowy Dzień Młodzieży w wymiarze diecezjalnym), przemówienia i homilie ze Światowych Dni Młodzieży w Rio de Janeiro i w Krakowie oraz List do młodych z okazji przygotowania Documento Preparatorio XV Zgromadzenia Ogólnego Zwyczajnego Synodu Biskupów na temat „Młodzież, wiara i rozeznanie powołania”. W ich świetle wyszczególniono następujące zagadnienia: 1) młodość; 2) misja młodych w Kościele; 3) misja młodych w świecie
Following his election as the Bishop of Rome Pope Francis immediately entered the world of young people and won their trust. He has established with them a kind, yet challenging dialogue that made the Pope an important source of reference, a guide and a companion on the paths of faith and life. This article aims at presenting the main content of the papal teaching addressed to the young people as well as the tasks set by Francis to the young generation of Christians in the church and the world. The study involves analysis of official documents and speeches of Pope Francis that constitute yearly messages for the World Youth Day, homilies delivered during Palm Sunday celebrations (which is treated in Church as the World Youth Day at a diocesan level), speeches and homilies from Rio de Janeiro and Cracow World Youth Days as well as the letter addressed to the young people on the occasion of the presentation of the preparatory document of the 15th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops dealing with the topic «Young People, the Faith and Vocational Discernment». The following issues were separated in the light of the above documents: 1) the Youth, 2) the Mission of the Young People in the Church, 3) the Mission of the Young People in the world.

Переводческое оформление Всемирных Дней Молодёжи. В статье освещается проблема перевода как аспекта оформления международного мероприятия, особенно религиозного характера. Вопрос рассматривается на примере Всемирных Дней Молодёжи, т.е. встречи молодых католиков с папой римским, которая прошла летом 2016 года в Кракове. В качестве материала исследования выбраны тексты составленные или переведенные как профессионалами, так и непрофессиольными переводчиками и использаванные паломниками во время богослужений (литургические тексты, молитвы, песенники) и в обычном общении (путеводители, карты, планы, пресса). Внимание фокусируется на работе переводчиков двух краковских приходов, где принималась молодёжь владеющая русским языком. На выбранных текстах дано описание межъязыкового (с польского на русский) и межсемиотического переводов, обсуждается их адекватность.
Translation framework of Word Youth Day. This article concerns the issue of translation offered to pilgrims during World Youth Day – religious event organized in July 2016 in Krakow. The paper discusses two kind of religious texts presented during WYD: written – prayers, hymn books and guides given to young Catholics and spoken – Holy Mass, broadcast religious services and meetings with the Holy Father.The paper concerns linguistic analysis of translation of religious vocabulary from Polish to Russian by professional translators and amateurs, who were working in parishes. The article also contains examples of interligual and intersemotic translation and description of work and materials made by parish translators.

The main principles of the World Youth Days were formed during the last three pontificates. The idea of this event was born from the pastoral care of John Paul II for the youth. He recognized that youth enthusiasm is simultaneously wonderful means for building unity among different cultures. He had also seen that this pastoral action had to be ecclesiastical, universal and youth has to be the main protagonist in it. Pope Benedict underlining Catholicism and universality emphasized the part of voluntarism, adoration and Sacrament of Reconciliation. Pope Francis emphasized brotherhood, celebration of faith and youth mission in our modern world. World Youth Days are therefore composite unity events but necessary in panorama of today life of the Church.
Podstawowe założenia Światowych Dni Młodych formowały się na przestrzeni trzech ostatnich pontyfikatów. Idea tego wydarzenia zrodziła się z pasterskiej troski Jana Pawła II o młodych. Rozpoznał on, że entuzjazm młodych jest jednocześnie wspaniałym środkiem budującym jedność między różnymi kulturami. Widział też, że to działanie duszpasterskie musi być kościelne, uniwersalne i młodzież musi być w nim głównym protagonistą. Papież Benedykt, podkreślając katolickość i uniwersalność Światowych Dni Młodzieży, wyakcentował rolę wolontariatu, adoracji i sakramentu pojednania. Papież Franciszek podkreślił braterstwo, święto wiary i misję młodych we współczesnym świecie. ŚDM są zatem wydarzeniem bardzo kompleksowym, ale koniecznym w panoramie życia dzisiejszego Kościoła.

Synod Biskupów dotyczący duszpasterstwa młodzieży, który odbył się w 2018 roku, zauważa, iż posługa pastoralna prowadzona wśród ludzi młodych powinna odbywać się przede wszystkim na poziomie parafii w ramach duszpasterstwa zwyczajnego. Jednak działalność zbawcza Kościoła wśród młodzieży wymaga także obecności elementów duszpasterstwa nadzwyczajnego, co ma dokonywać się poprzez odpowiednie przygotowanie samego duszpasterza i pomagających mu animatorów. Takie działanie może przyczynić się do efektywności prowadzonych działań pastoralnych. Niewątpliwie konieczne wydają się również: wizja, strategia prowadzenia duszpasterstwa na szczeblu diecezji, dekanatu i parafii, a także znajomość kondycji duchowej młodego człowieka, jego trudności oraz środowiska życia. Duszpasterstwo młodzieży diecezji opolskiej stara się na te wyzwania odpowiedzieć i poprzez różnego rodzaju inicjatywy oraz chrześcijańską formację stałą pomaga młodym i towarzyszy im w spotkaniu z osobą Jezusa Chrystusa.
The Synod of the Bishops concerning youth ministry, which took place in 2018, points out that pastoral ministry conducted among young people should take place primarily on the parish level as part of the ordinary ministry. However, salutary activity of the Church among youth requires also the presence of extraordinary, categorical ministry elements, which should happen through proper preparation of the priest himself and the animators that are helping him. Such activity can contribute to effectiveness of conducted pastoral actions. Without doubts it seems that the vision and strategy of ministry conducting on the level of diocese, deanery and parish, as well as the knowledge of spiritual condition of young people, their difficulties and living environment are necessary. The youth ministry in the Diocese of Opole is trying to answer to this challenges and through various types of initiatives and Christian constant formation desires to help the young people and accompany them to the meeting with the person of Jesus Christ.

World Youth Day (WYD) 2016 gathered a powerful body of youth, who are now asking; What’s next? Without a doubt this group of young people is the promising group within the Church. They are brave and consciously living their faith. They have lived something that has radically transformed them. There are not many of them, yet they are strong. They are excelling and forming a wedge in a growing secular environment. What about those who are left? What’s happening with them? Who are today’s Polish youth and what dilemmas are they facing? As the results of a study completed on the topic of youth and their spirituality shows, we can generally argue that the currently growing generation is a consumerist one. We are also experiencing a growing discrepancy between declared faith, active practice of faith, and morality. Today’s youth, essentially, are not concerned with matters of faith and carry a negative image of the congregation and priests. What indications may be implemented in the ministry of our youth after such a great event as the World Youth Day? What is the ministry of youth and how can we realize it?

The announcement of Panama as host of World Youth Day in 2019, turned out to be a great surprise for the whole world. For the fi rst time such a small country, has hosted a global event. Panamá is known primarily from the Panama Canal and the Panamanian aff air called Panama. But speaking in these two contexts is very hurtful, because it is a country richly diverse, and the Church here has a unique, unique face. Catholic missions are included in the history of Panama from the very beginning. From the beginning of the bishopric in the city of Panamá, through the territorial development of the Church, everything here has a mark of mission. The fi nal element of the article is the presentation of the Church in the Bocas del Toro Territorial Prelature. The prelature is located in the Caribbean Sea and is geographically diff erent from the rest of the country. But this place is an example of a missionary church, and of a church that needs support in its mission. Poles coming to Panama for the next World Youth Day will discover a unique country, and together with the Poles, Panama will be discovered by the whole world.
