The paper consists of study results of exposure to high frequency noise at metalworking workplaces. The study was carried out using objective methods (measurements of parameters characterizing the noise) and subjective studies (questionnaire survey). Metalworking workplaces were located in a steel structure (e.g. deck gratings) of the manufacturing plant. The results are equivalent sound pressure levels in the 1/3 octave frequency bands with center frequencies from 10 kHz to 40 kHz in reference to an 8-hour workday equal to approximately 81-105 dB at most of the tested workplaces and exceed permissible values. The questionnaire survey of annoyance high frequency noise (i.e. in the audible frequency and low ultrasound range) was conducted among 52 operators of machines. Most of the workers describe the noise as: buzzing, insistent, whistling and high-pitched squeaky. Respondents specify the noise levels occurring at workplaces as: loud, impeding communication, highly strenuous and tiring.

Most of radon and other environmental measurements were carried out in connection with research focused on improvement of radon dose assessment in the underground workplaces in the Czech Republic. The following methods are very useful for the detection of radon sources: air flow measurement; continual and short volume activity of radon and its progeny measurement; volume activity of thoron measurement; mapping of radon level in all workplace areas including horizontal and vertical gradient; radon in water measurement; integral radon monitor RAMARN testing, etc. In conjunction with equilibrium radon concentration (ERC) monitoring studies were conducted of radiogenic characteristics of caves clastogene and carbonate sediments, and other rock formations present in the Czech Massif and Western Carpathian. Over 150 samples of cave sediments were collected, in which the mass activities of present radionuclides were determined. Spectrometric analysis of the sediments enabled monitoring of disturbance in secular radioactive equilibrium in the given geochemical systems, through evaluation of 238U/226Ra or 228Th/224Ra proportion. Ratio of 208Tl/226Ra was monitored for the rock groups from the origin point of view assessment. Typical values for such ratio for carbonate rocks (including amphibolite and erlan) varied between 0.2–0.5, while for clastogene sediments and crystalline limestone the typical values were in the range 1.4–1.6. Conclusions from measurements were implemented in the new methodology for radon dose assessment.

This article discusses how machine translation software can be used in developing users’ language and communicative skills in the workplace. The case in point is the neural machine engine DeepL, whose primary functionality is text translation; yet when one thinks about modern workplaces, it turns out that professionals other than translators may be in need of urgent text creation in a foreign language. Knowledge of the target language is an indisputable prerequisite for effective specialist communication. Nonetheless, with the use of a machine translator like DeepL Translator or machine text composer like DeepL Write creating texts in the target language (formal emails, minutes or summaries) may take less time and give a more satisfactory effect both in terms of text quality and authors’ foreign language practice.

The recently emerging new types of collaborative work and unconventional workplaces indicate that shifting social and economic practices have odd spatial implications. The diversity of work, mostly based on hybrid social and economic logics, has brought forth a number of new contextualised spatial constructs in recent years: makerspaces, fab labs, open workshops, and co-working spaces now require detailed analytical reconstruction and conceptualisation. This article is a theoretical discussion of the nature of fluid and contingent spatialisation against the backdrop of binary explanatory categories (e.g. local-global; proximity-distance). Drawing upon modernised concepts of horizontal scaling, we propose a perspective on hybrid work which focuses on contingent multiple, multidirectional and temporal scalings created by a variety of users while developing their own micro-worlds of work.

Crews on tankers traveling and hauling cargo on the lower reaches of the Mississippi River during the hot and humid (H&H) summer season face various occupational safety and ergonomics problems. Evaluation of medical data reveals that a large number of the crewmembers experience job related injuries, diseases, disorders, and exhaustion as a result of adverse environmental conditions (National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health [NIOSH], 1993). The accidents and injuries that occurred were characterized and then analysis was used to recommend constructive remedies and solutions. The results were also used to design and develop better work environments on the tankers and in the general industry. In H&H conditions, the body’s chemical reactions constantly change in order to maintain the best possible reaction to changing environments. This chemical reaction increases blood flow to the skin through sweating. Body metabolism stabilizes body temperature through muscular work and convection, evaporation and radiation remove heat.

The start of the COVID-19 virus epidemic is having an impact on radical changes in the labor market. The difficult economic situation is a challenge for employers, candidates and recruiters. In recent months, the recruitment market has seen a decline in the work forces, redundancy, and a reduction in salaries. As a result of this situation, some workplaces have used the remote work model. The possibility of remote work can be a good solution for many employees, but in some cases, it can be a significant inconvenience, especially for employees who have underage children and perform their work duties at home. Aim of the article is present positive and negative aspects of remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research presented in the article was aimed at assessing changes in working conditions and starting remote work. The positive effects of changes in workplaces include saving time, adjusting work to personal needs, and work-life balance. The disadvantages of taking up remote work include lack of direct contact with co-workers, blurring the boundaries between private and professional life, maintaining a constant presence at work, lack of social ties and isolation were identified as the most significant obstacles to remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the negative aspects of working remotely, the respondents more often declared their willingness to work remotely also after the end of the pandemic.

The computer modelling and simulation finds wide usage in the improvement of production systems like workplaces. Production systems are so complex, that without computer it is not possible to realize detailed analysis of processes taking place in them. The methodology for projects of workplaces improving with application of the software supporting duty analysis of the human body is presented in this paper.

Increased efficiency of production and improved quality have contributed to the development of ultrasonic technological applications, in which low frequency ultrasounds are generated to operate, accelerate as well as to facilitate technological processes. Technological ultrasonic devices (i.e. sources of ultrasonic noise in the work environment, e.g. ultrasonic washers, ultrasonic welding machines) have relatively high power and their nominal frequencies are in the range from 18 kHz to 40 kHz. In Poland, ultrasonic noise (defined as noise containing high audible and low ultrasonic frequencies from 10 kHz to 40 kHz) is included in the list of factors harmful to health in the work environment and therefore the admissible values of ultrasonic noise in the workplaces are established. The admissible values of ultrasonic noise and the new ultrasonic noise measurement method make it possible to perform the assessment of occupational risk related to ultrasonic noise. According to this method, the scope of the measurements includes the determination of the equivalent sound pressure levels in the 1/3 octave bands with the centre frequencies from 10 kHz to 40 kHz. This paper presents the description of both, i.e. the method for ultrasonic noise measurements and the method of the assessment of occupational risk related to ultrasonic noise. The examples of the results of the assessment of occupational risk related to exposure to ultrasonic noise are also discussed.

The article deals with the human performance and the factors that affect job performance. During the performance of work a person is exposed to risk factors, which to some extent adversely affect his health. It is necessary to note, that currently prevail in the company of two views on the position of man in the process. First, promoted in particular employers, puts emphasis on increasing the performance of workers and productivity growth. The second view is supported by employees and emphasises the need for safety and health at work of man. The aim of ergonomics is currently referred to harmonise these views. Work is an essential and therefore the dominant activity in the life of every person. An employer has to create the optimal workingconditions for an employee to be able to use their performance-related capacity fully. The results which the keeping of the ergonomic rules in an enterprise brings can be divided into the economic ones, important for the employer and the health keeping ones, important for the employee. A man spends an essential part of their life in a work activity which has formed them during the whole evolution. Therefore we cannot overlook work activity and its effect on a person because it has progressive importance in human development and it is the factor of mental and physical functions improvement.

Metoda polega na pobraniu zawartego w powietrzu parationu metylowego na sorbent – żel krzemionkowy z chemicznie związaną fazą oktadecylową (ODS-C18) i ekstrakcji substancji z sorbentu eterem dietylowym. Suchą pozostałość po odparowaniu eteru rozpuszcza się w cykloheksanie. Paration metylowy oznacza się w otrzymanym roztworze metodą chromatografii gazowej z detektorem azotowo- -fosforowym (NPD) na kolumnie kapilarnej. Najmniejsze stężenie parationu metylowego, jakie można oznaczać podaną metodą, wynosi 0,025 mg/m3.
This method is based on the adsorption of parathion-methyl vapours on silica gel with chemically bounded octadecyl phase ODS-C18, extraction of the compound with diethyl ether and then determination in the obtained solution by capillary gas chromatography (GC-NPD). The determination limit of this method is 0.025 mg/m3.

This study investigated the effect of moving from single-occupancy offices to a landscape environment. Thirty-two visual display unit (VDU) operators reported no significant change in visual discomfort. Lighting conditions and glare reported subjectively showed no significant correlation with visual discomfort. Experience of pain was found to reduce subjectively rated work capacity during VDU tasks. The correlation between visual discomfort and reduced work capacity for single-occupancy offices was rs = .88 (p = .000) and for office landscape rs = .82 (p = .000). Eye blink rate during habitual VDU work was recorded for 12 operators randomly selected from the 32 participants in the office landscape. A marked drop in eye blink rate during VDU work was found compared to eye blink rate during easy conversation. There were no significant changes in pain intensity in the neck, shoulder, forearm, wrist/hand, back or headache (.24 ≤ p ≤ .67). Pain levels in different body areas were significantly correlated with reduced work capacity, .77 < rs < .99 (p = .000).

Currently, emphasis is still placed on risk evaluations of physical factors in workplaces. The aim of this paper was to evaluate objectively and subjectively the noise parameters and microclimate conditions near conveyor systems at the workplace for the handling and sorting postal items. Objective noise measurements were performed using the Norsonic 140 sound analyser, Class 1 and microclimatic conditions using the Testo 435 instrument. The subjective evaluation was performed by the questionnaire method (120; F: 66; M: 54). The result of the research was the assessment of health risks, depending on the sources of noise caused by conveyor systems.

So far, it has been said about white, blue and pink collar workers, and now it’s time for the color green. Green collars is the common name for the green work places, and the people who works there. Such jobs exist in various fields and sectors of economy. The concept of green jobs began to spread as far as the development of the concept of a green economy. Implementation of a green economy requires structural changes, including the creation of green jobs. Their creation is important from the economic, ecological and social development points of view. For this reason, the article presents their essence, regulations associated with them and the state of development of green jobs in Poland. It also identifies the actions necessary to stimulate the creation of such jobs.

Słaba widoczność spowodowana olśnieniem uznawana jest za jedną z pośrednich przyczyn wypadków przy pracy, w szczególności na zewnętrznych stanowiskach pracy, kiedy wykonuje się prace po zmierzchu. W celu poprawy warunków pracy wzrokowej i ograniczenia zagrożenia wypadkowego związanego z olśnieniem na zewnętrznych stanowiskach pracy konieczne jest dokonywanie odpowiedniej oceny olśnienia. W artykule przedstawiono opracowaną w CIOP-PIB metodę oceny olśnienia polegającą na subiektywnej ocenie odczuwanego olśnienia przez pracowników oraz obiektywnym wyznaczeniu wskaźnika olśnienia GR na podstawie pomiaru rozkładu luminancji.
Poor visibility as result of glare is recognized as one of the indirect reasons of occupational accidents, especially at outdoor workplaces after dusk. In order to improve the visual work conditions and limitation of the occupational accident risk related to glare on outdoor workplaces, there is a need to perform adequate glare assessment. This article presents the elaborated method of glare assessment which consists both of subjective evaluation of glare and objective determination of glare index GR based on luminance distribution measurements.
