Opis:
The Bond work index is a measure of ore resistance to crushing and grinding and is determined using the Bond grindability test. Its value constitutes ore characteristic and is used for industrial comminution plants designing. Determining the Bond work index value is quite complicated, time-consuming and requires trained operating personnel and therefore is subjected to errors. A quick method for the Bond work index approximate value determination, which is based on the first order grinding kinetics, is presented in this paper. Comparative experiments for the Bond work index value determination using the standard and quick procedures were carried out on samples of limestone and andesite, and on composite samples containing both ores in different mass proportions. This quick procedure can be performed with an arbitrary number of milling cycles, depending on the desired accuracy.

Trioxoboric acid (H3BO3) is a white weakly soluble acid produced from boron minerals. This acid type was used for the first time in this study for ash and sulfur removal from coal. Ash and sulfur are the most important impurities in the content of coal and have significant effects on environmental pollution. It is possible to remove ash and sulfur by H3BO3 leaching. However, there have not been enough studies in this area and the performance of trioxoboric acid has not been fully demonstrated. In this study, leaching performance of trioxoboric acid and other strong acids (hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids) has been demonstrated. Trioxoboric acid removed ash and sulfur from coal by 41.18% and 32.16%, respectively. This acid can compete especially with hydrochloric and sulfuric acid in sulfur removal. However, hydrofluoric acid provided the best results in ash and sulfur removal.

Opis:
This study emphasizes on the physicochemical and grindability characteristics and work index of an alluvial formed silica dominated ferro-columbite mineral from Rayfield-Jos minefields in Plateau state, Nigeria. Investigations were also carried out in order to determine the mineralogy of the mineral deposits and most essentially the actual energy consumed during comminution and milling of the mineral so as to achieve the liberation size prior to high efficient mineral processing or beneficiation and the extraction of value metals. The distribution of the mineral particles as well as their sizes was determined, with a mineral liberation size fraction range essentially established as -150+90 μm particle sizes. Mass percentage of each size fraction obtained from PSD analysis conducted before and after comminution was also determined, obtaining 80% passing for both the mineral feeds and comminuted products. Berry and Bruce modified Bond’s work index was therefore obtained, and was determined to be within the range of 2.0414 to 2.5667 kWh/ton. Hence, the energy consumed or required to comminute or grind the Fe-columbite mineral to 80% passing is expected to fall within the range of 0.3613 to 0.4543 kWh. Thus, it could be said that a low milling work index as well as moderately low energy is required for comminution and this can be attributed to the mineralogy, mineral source and alluvial formation of the mineral reserve. Therefore, the grindability/PSD result of the mineral sample indicates that its mineralogy is considered a class of moderately soft mineral type in terms of texture with easy grindability.

The required work for ore trituration is represented by the Bond Work Index value and is determined by the grindability test for ball mills. This article examines the grinding behavior of ore blends with different mechanical properties in standard ball mills. The goal of this research was to compare statistic and stochastic models of the Work Index value for mixtures of quartz and marble at different proportions of each material. Quartz and marble bearing rocks were selected for this study due to the high difference between the Work Index value of each material, making the variability of the results more evident. Work Index values obtained for each mixture are shown, from which a deterministic model was proposed defined by data regression. The novelty of this research lies in the non-linear model, which was the best fit for the Work Index value of the quartz-marble blends. Our methodology allows us to build more accurate models and can be used for quartz-marble blends and other materials.

Opis:
The standard Bond method is the most acceptable method for designing and selecting ball/rod mills described by their basic parameter called work index (Wi). The standard Bond method is a tedious time consuming procedure requiring at least 7 – 10 grinding cycles, so that many researchers have tried to simplify this method to be able to perform a rapid calculation of a work index. This study aims to develop a new approach toward estimating the Bond ball mill work index (BBWI) by applying a series of kinetic grinding tests with Bond standard mill. Establishing a series of relationships between grinding parameters and Bond equation parameters, this approach is fast and practical due to eliminating laboratory control steps while reducing the number of milling steps. In this scope, thirteen ore samples were used to compare Wi values obtained by standard Bond method with those of the proposed kinetic approach. The kinetic periods were determined as 0.33, 1, 2, 4 and 8 minutes. The results of kinetic tests were found to be logical and acceptable as they were so close to the values obtained by Bond standard method, for all samples error was ≤ 2.60%. It was therefore concluded that the proposed approach could be considered as a simple yet practical alternative for the standard Bond method.

Opis:
Ore concentrators seek the stability of processes by feeding blends of rocks with average hardness and ore content. Therefore, large amounts of samples must be characterized in a short time. The Bond Work Index () is a common technique for the estimation of hardness and energy requirement for comminution using ball mills. However, this technique is time-consuming (close to 5 hours) and liable to experimental errors. This work contributes to obtaining new models for rapid Bond Work Index estimation using non-standard dimensions mills. This was done by proposing grinding tests using four types of ores and four mills of different dimensions, including the standard Bond ball mill (BBM). For all tests it was kept constant: (a) critical speed (91%), and (b) mill charge by volume (10.5%), varying the amount of fresh feed according to its density. The results showed that using the non-standard mills (between 20 and 35 cm in diameter), the Bond´s model constants (=0.23; = 0.82, and = 44.5), are unable to predict the Work Index properly. Therefore, these constants must be recalculated using linear models based on mill diameter. With the models proposed for , , and , the Bond Work Index (kWh/t) can be rapidly estimated (less than 2 hours) and show a high accuracy for mills of non-standard dimensions (R2= 0.96).

Objectives The work ability of aging teachers is of special interest because of high risk of stress. The aim of the study was to follow the work ability of aging teachers and compare it with that of aging non-teacher professionals. Material and Methods The study included 424 teachers of age ≤ 44 years old (N = 140) and ≥ 45 years old (N = 284), with about 10% male teachers in both age groups, matched by sex and age with non-teacher professionals. Work ability was assessed by means of the Work Ability Index (WAI). Chi2 tests and regression analyses were used for studying WAI scales ratings, diagnosed by physician diseases and WAI ratings. Results Our data shows comparatively high work ability for both age groups of teachers but WAI of aging teachers was significantly lower in comparison to their younger colleagues as well as aging non-teacher professionals. About 80% of aging groups reported diseases diagnosed by physicians. Cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and respiratory diseases were the most frequently reported by aging teachers, while teachers ≤ 44 years old reported respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological and sensory diseases. With aging significantly higher rates of arterial hypertension, diabetes, injury to hearing and mental disorders were reported by teachers as compared to aging non-teacher professionals. The rates of reported repeated infections of respiratory tracts were high in both age groups of teachers, especially in the group of aging teachers. The estimated work ability impairment due to the disease showed the significant effect of aging for teachers as well as the significant difference when comparing aging teachers and non-teacher professionals. Conclusions Our data shows high work ability for both age groups of teachers but significantly lower for aging teachers accompanied with higher rates of psychosomatic diseases, including hearing impairment and respiratory diseases. Preservation of teacher health could contribute to maintenance of their work ability and retention in the labor market. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(5):593–602

ObjectivesThe aim of this work was to assess the work ability, health status, disability and quality of life of working people of pre-retirement and retirement age, as well as to analyze factors affecting the ability to perform work in older age.Material and MethodsA cross-sectional pilot study was conducted in the Podkarpackie and Świętokrzyskie voivodeships, Poland, in randomly selected workplaces of intellectual nature. It was carried out by means of direct interviews in the workplace of the surveyed people, using the Work Ability Index, a questionnaire based on the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0, the WHO Quality of Life-BREF questionnaire, the Geriatric Depression Scale, and the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The criteria for inclusion were: age 55–75 years and informed consent to participate in the study. Overall, 201 complete questionnaires were included in the analysis. Demographic data is presented using descriptive statistics measurements. The logistic regression model was used to identify factors related to work ability.ResultsThe vast majority (69.66%) of employees performing intellectual work had moderate or poor work ability. The average level of general disability in the studied group was mild (20.65), and the quality of life was quite good (64.73). A significant problem among the surveyed people was a quite high average level of pain (VAS = 3.99), the occurrence of depression (73.63%), as well as musculoskeletal (64.18%) and cardiovascular diseases (52.24%). The most important factor contributing to a better work ability was the adaptation of the workplace to functional and healthrelated needs (OR = 7.79). Psychological well-being (OR = 1.12), cognitive performance (OR = 0.97) and a smaller number of chronic diseases (OR = 0.58) were also important factors.ConclusionsPreparation of elderly people for professional activity should be conducted in 2 different ways, i.e., by means of education and implementation of an active, healthy lifestyle, and increasing control over one’s own health and factors determining it, as well as by the proper organization of working space, and quick access to treatment and rehabilitation, especially in the case of musculoskeletal and cardiovascular diseases.

Objectives Work ability may be considered as an important aspect of well-being and health status. One of the most important factors in association with work ability is health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The aim of this study has been to determine the association between work ability, individual characteristics and HRQoL of female workers. Material and Methods The design of this study has been cross-sectional. The work ability index (WAI) and Short-Form General Health Survey (SF-12) questionnaires were used to collect data. Three hundred and twenty female workers were selected from food supplier factories in Karaj. One-way analysis of variance, Pearson’s correlation analysis, independent sample t-test and multiple linear regression methods were used to analyze data. Results Mean (M) and standard deviation (SD) of the WAI stood at 35.02 and 5.57, respectively. The categories of the WAI for women being as follows: 8.8% poor, 62% moderate, 25.4% good and 3.7% excellent. Mean±SD for the physical component summary (PCS) and mental component summary (MCS) of quality of life was 58.84±11.12 and 57.45±9.94, respectively. There was a positive significant association between the PCS and MCS with the WAI (p = 0.0001). Workers with higher education had a better work ability (p = 0.002) and shift-work workers had a worse work ability (p = 0.03). Conclusions Work ability of majority of women was moderate. Considering mean age of studied women (27.6 years old), this work ability is not satisfactory. Physical and mental components of the HRQoL were the important factors associated with work ability.

Ocenę zapotrzebowania na energię potrzebną do zmielenia nadawy przeprowadzono metodą wyznaczania indeksów pracy Bonda. Wyniki analiz przedstawiono w tabelach 2 i 3.
Polish copper ores are the mixtures of three lithologic types: sandstones, shales and carbonates. Each of them features by different values of physico-mechanical characteristics, what influences on amounts of energy required to their comminution. The further consequence of this fact is other course of comminution process of the ore having various lithologic types contents and necessity of application of the other beneficiation operations system by various material streams flows. The examples of solutions for technological systems beneficiating various mixtures taking into account lithologic composition were presented in table 1 and on fig. 1. The evaluation of energy demand needed to feed grinding process was conducted by themethod of Bond work indexes. The results of analyzes were shown in tables 2 and 3. They show the differences between factors in dependence on sample location in the deposit (also time of sampling). Furthermore, the program of further investigation was initially discussed, allowing to better characterize work of the system of feed preparation to beneficiation process. The research will be continued.
