Opis:
The study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of wastewater treatment at the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Wolbrom, to which predominantly domestic wastewater and industrial sewage flow. The assessment was made based on the analysis of the physical and chemical research results of raw and treated wastewater. The research was carried out in the period from January 2014 to December 2014. To perform the analysis of the treatment plant efficiency, four indicators of wastewater pollutants such as BOD5 , COD, total nitrogen and total phosphorus were selected for further investigation. For each of the indicators degrees of reduction and coefficients of treatment plant operational reliability were calculated. The calculated degrees of reduction for each of the indicators were high and amounted to 99.0% for BOD5 , 95.2% for COD, 91.0% for total nitrogen and 91.6%. for total phosphorus. These results prove the effective reduction in the amount of pollutants. The determined coefficients of treatment plant operational reliability were at a low level: BOD5 - 0.27, COD - 0.44, total nitrogen - 0.33 and total phosphorus - 0.53. The conducted analyses prove the effective operation of the treatment plant, which was confirmed by high efficiency of pollutants removal.

Opis:
Municipal wastewater is characterized by diverse microbial content, largely dependent on their sources as well as many other factors like condition and health of their producer, but also environmental factors. The number and share of individual bacterial population in wastewater is changing during the process of their treatment in wastewater treatment plants. The microbial content of treated wastewater is significantly affected by the type of technology used for wastewater treatment. The paper presents the results of the species composition of bacteria present in the wastewater at various stages of treatment for the two different technologies. Samples of wastewater from hydroponic wastewater treatment plant and from the plant whose technology is based on biofilters were analysed. A key mechanism for wastewater treatment in both cases is biological treatment, using microbial activity that decomposes pollutants in the wastewater, which significantly contributes to changes in the species composition of bacteria comparing to microbiological composition of sewage flowing into the treatment plant. Analyses of microbial composition showed that in the objects consisting of preliminary tank and biofilter, composition of bacteria species is changing, but many species isolated from raw sewage is also found in treated wastewater. In the plant with hydroponic lagoon after wastewater treatment throughout the process system, bacteria present in raw sewage or in wastewater after biological treatment were not identified in the outlet.

Opis:
Adsorption is one of the basic surface phenomena involving saturation of the adsorbent surface with adsorbate molecules located near the adsorbent-adsorbate interface. The processes that are accompanied by the accumulation of adsorbate molecules on the surface are different from absorption, which is related to absorbing molecules into the whole mass and requires diffusion into the interior. If both processes can occur simultaneously, this phenomenon is called sorption. The aim of the present study was to characterize the sorption properties of selected sorbents and to assess the possibility of their application to support the treatment of coking wastewater from ammonium nitrogen, phenol, and TOC. The scope of the study included the examinations of sorption properties of selected sorbents (coal dust, coke dust, biochar), physicochemical tests of coking wastewater after biological treatment, as well as the examinations aimed to determine the dose of adsorbents and time needed to establish the equilibrium state of the process. The results obtained were analyzed for the effect of dose and contact time on the pollutant removal efficiency. The literature describes the efficiency of ammonium nitrogen removal from wastewater using chemical processes. However, there is a lack of studies on the removal of ammonium nitrogen, phenol, and TOC from industrial (coking) wastewater. The conducted study aimed to develop an alternative solution to the currently used conventional methods of removing high concentrations of pollutants from wastewater.

Opis:
The paper presents the current state of water supply and sewerage infrastructure and the need for its expanding in Radzyń district. The district is located in the northern part of Lublin Voivodeship in Poland. The following communes belong to Radzyń district: the municipal commune of Radzyń Podlaski and 7 rural communes: Borki, Czemierniki, Kąkolewnica, Komarówka Podlaska, Radzyń Podlaski, Ulan-Majorat, Wohyń. The data show that the water supply network in Radzyń district is well developed. The most significant percentage of the population using the water supply network has the rural commune of Radzyń Podlaski – 99.9%, while the smallest, commune Komarówka Podlaska – 54.5%. The survey showed that there was a very large disproportion between the development of the sewerage and water supply systems. The largest percentage of the population using the sewerage network has the municipal commune of Radzyń Podlaski – 99.7%. The smallest percentage of users of collective sewage disposal systems was recorded in the rural commune of Radzyń Podlaski (7.2%). The commune of UlanMajorat does not have a sewerage system. The survey conducted in 2016 shows that 8 collective wastewater treatment plants operated in Radzyń district at that time. The total capacity of the treatment plants is over 5,300 m3/d. In 2016, Radzyń district had about 1,000 household wastewater treatment plants. The presented data show that the condition of the sanitary infrastructure in rural communes of Radzyń district is unsatisfactory and requires the investment activities mainly aimed at expanding collective sewage disposal and treatment systems as well as developing a network of household wastewater treatment plants.

Opis:
The objective of this work was to test the impact of coagulant and flocculant at the stage of mechanical wastewater treatment on the wastewater treatment plant operation, performed in the A2O process. In this paper, the principles of correct conduct of coagulation in wastewater treatment have been discussed. It appears from the research performed that significant elimination of BOD5 such as 20÷30%, total suspended matter up to 90%, COD up to 50% and total nitrogen at 30% level was achieved supported by the coagulation process in the pre-settling tanks. Approximately 50% of phosphorus was eliminated after the mechanical part. Additionally, a significant impact of Superfloc flocculant on the effectiveness of the solid phase separation (activated sludge) in the secondary settling tank was noted under diversified flow conditions.

Opis:
Przeanalizowano zdolność usuwania w oczyszczalni Enkosystem substancji rozpuszczonych w postaci jonów (przewodność elektryczna właściwa), zawiesiny ogólnej, ogólnego węgla organicznego, BZT5, azotu ogólnego i fosforu ogólnego.
The paper presents results of a study on the efficiency of a household hybrid wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) made by the Enko company, installed for the Town Hall in Zawoja. Samples of raw, pre-treated and treated sewage were analysed. The samples were taken every month, since November 2010 till June 2011. The following parameters were analysed: electrolytic conductivity, suspended solids, total organic carbon, BOD5, total nitrogen and total phosphorus. A high BOD removal efficiency of up to 99% was observed. Suspended solids were also removed with a high efficiency between 74% and 95%. Total organic carbon was removed with a relatively high efficiency (30-81%). The average removal efficiency for electric conductivity was 28%, and 41% for total phosphorus. The worst effects were noted for total nitrogen, the average removal efficiency of which was 27%. Enkosystem WWTP was characterized by proper performance, the values of analysed parameters did not in general exceed the standards defined by Polish legal regulations.
