Opis:: The purpose of this thesis is the comparison of some chosen aspects of life quality of elderly people that are chronically ill and reside uder institutional care or stay at their own homes. Research covered 100 seniors, ages from 65 to 92, including 50 patients of the Nursing and Therapeutic Institution in Nowy Targ and 50 ill and elderly people staying at their homes and using home rehabilitation. 50 men and 50 women were interviewed. To carry out the research I used the diagnostic survey method. The quality of life of the subjects was evaluated by means of the standard WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Three other standard questionnairies were also used in the research: the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS), Tinetti’s Performance Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA) and the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living scale (IADL). ZOL’s members rated lower satisfaction with quality of life and their health, compared to seniors staying in homes under the care of their families. In the study groups, significantly higher quality of life in four areas was found in the group of seniors living in their own homes compared to the seniors living in ZOL. Based on the research results it was found that the evaluation of quality of life of elderly people significantly depends on the environment they live in.

Opis:: Objectives: The aim of this paper is to identify the factors that determine the environmental domain of quality of life in economically active adults living in the industrial agglomeration in Poland. Materials and Methods: During the crosssectional epidemiological study conducted among the economically active population aged 45–60, we used a short version of the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Respondents were recruited randomly from selected factories located in the Silesian Agglomeration. The statistical analysis used descriptive and analytical methods available in the Statistica 9.0 software. Results: The results confi rmed the statistically signifi cant association between marital status, type of occupational activity, declared health status, and the environmental domain of quality of life in economically active inhabitants of the Silesian Agglomeration. The best qualities of life in the environmental domain were those of married people, white collars, and persons who declared their health status to be the best. Conclusions: The major determinants of environmental quality of life in economically active population living in the industrial agglomeration include non-occupational factors, such as marital status and current health status, while a signifi cantly better quality of life was associated with being a white-collar worker and not living in the vicinity of the road with heavy traffic. The results may be useful for future planned activities intended to improve the health and the quality of working life.

Opis:: Introduction. Diabetes is associated with a lower quality of life (QoL). Insulin therapy is perceived as an additional factor affecting QoL. The objective of this study, using standardized tools, was to evaluate to what extent insulin treatment has an effect on QoL in diabetes. Materials and method. 60 diabetic patients treated with insulin and 90 with oral drugs, all aged over 30, were included into the study. To assess the QoL of patients, SF-36 v.2 and WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires were used. In addition, demographic data were collected. Results. Insulin treated patients had a significantly lower Mental Component Score in SF-36 v.2 questionnaire. No significant differences between the two groups were found in the components of physical domain of SF-36 v.2 and in four domains of WHOQOL-BREF questionnaires. Insulin therapy was significantly associated with lower educational level. The strongest association with QoL in both questionnaires was found for professional activity and age. Conclusions. The results of this study indicate the need for psychological support for patients with diabetes treated with insulin to improve their mental coping. Diabetic patients should also be advised to continue their professional activity for as long as possible due to its important role in maintaining QoL.
