Opis:
The investigation involved treatment of pre-soaked seeds (11h) of a mungbean cutivar, PUSA 9072 with five doses of ethyl methane suphonate (EMS) at 0.1, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 and 1% for 4hr under dark. Observation on field grown mutagenized population with regard to 14 agronomic characters evidenced for induction of the variability in the M1 generation itself. The CV values of the traits for mutagenised population were stupendously higher for most of the test characters to the tune of 57% cases as compared to the untreated (control) plants...

Opis:
India is one of the agricultural country and food is very important need for our country because growth of population. Nowadays various inorganic fertilizers used for agriculture for high yield purposes but it affect the soil fertility and living organisms. Chemical fertilizers are very costly and it produced environmental pollution. Organic compost is cost effective and sustainable. In this attempt the effect of various organic fertilizers (farm yard manure, vermicompost and composted coirpith) and inorganic fertilizers (nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) on germination of green gram (Vigna radiata L.). The following parameters were analyzed such as germination percentage, seedling length, fresh weight, dry weight and photosynthetic pigments such as chlorophyll a, chlorophyll b, total chlorophyll and carotenoid. As the result of this study that all above the parameters were increased in vermicompost applicator soil of the plant compared to the other organic and inorganic fertilizers. This study concluded that vermicompost is very used for the crop production.

Opis:
There is a worldwide search for the safe, effective and eco-friendly compounds of plant origin to combat the weed species and other pests which are responsible for the great impact on the growth and productivity of agricultural crops. In this present study, a comparison was made to evaluate the phytotoxicity potential of sequentially extracted solvent (hexane, ethyl-acetate, methanol) extracts of Parthenium hysterophorus L. (aerial parts) in vitro through bench-top seed germination assay (Vigna radiata L.). One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan’s multiple range test (DMRT) were done for statistical analysis of the data. The study reveals that germination, growth and vigour was significantly (P<0.05) reduced by ethyl-acetate and methanol extracts. The present study concluded that phytotoxicity of ethylacetate and methanolic crude extracts of Parthenium hysterophorus could be exploited as potential bioherbicide for future weed management programme and the development of bioherbicide for commercial use.

Opis:
The natural resistance against the majority of potential pathogens that exist in most plant species is known as non-host resistance. Several reports suggest the role of antioxidant enzymes in non-host resistance. We assayed the expression or activity of four scavenging enzymes during non-host pathogen-plant interaction (Xanthomonas hortorum pv. pelargonii/mung bean) and host pathogen-plant interaction (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. phaseoli/mung bean). The expression of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and the enzyme activity of catalase (CAT) and peroxidase (POX) were investigated. The activities of CAT and POX were higher during non-host pathogen invasion vs. host pathogen attack. The expression of SOD and APX were also different between compatible and incompatible interactions. The expression of SOD and APX were higher in the incompatible compared to the compatible interaction. Additionally, induction of the antioxidant enzymes in response to non-host pathogen was earlier than induction in response to host pathogen. Such information is important for plant breeders, and useful when looking for alternative control strategies as well.

Opis:
Seeds of local trees, such Azadirachta indica A. Juss, Adenanthera pavonina L., Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit and Eucalyptus spp., were used as aqueous extract at 25, 50 and 100 % concentration to control the activity of Meloidogyne javanica (Treub) Citwood. All seed extracts showed lethal effect on M. javanica eggs, and a gradual decrease in egg hatching and an increase in mortality of second-stage juveniles were observed with the increase in extract concentration. L. leucocephala was found to be most effective in reducing egg hatching, whereas 100 % mortality of juveniles was observed in the case of A. indica seed extract. Number of knots was significantly reduced at 100 % concentration when seeds of chick pea and mung bean were treated and soil was drenched with A. pavonina and Eucalyptus spp. seed extract.
