    The present paper focuses on the syntactic description of verb-second-sentences from a contrastive view (German-Italian). The study is based upon a corpus of texts written by Italian native speakers of the course German Language for Tourism at the University of Pisa. This paper is composed of two parts: the first one aims at pointing out the main grammatical structural differences between Italian and German declarative sentences as far as the position of the verb is concerned; the second one shows the results gained by analysing the corpus of written texts referring to the position of the verb in declarative sentences in order to provide a successful methodological approach to verb-second-sentences in the didactics of German as foreign language

    Opis:
    This article investigates the acquisition of verb placement in German as a foreign language at an advanced stage of development. The main objective of the investigation is to analyse written and spoken language production in terms of the use of subject-verb-inversion, verbal bracket, and verb-final placement in subordinate clauses. The results reveal a discrepancy between written and spoken language production with respect to correct usage of the verb placement rules. While correctness in the written production task exceeded 97% for all phenomena, the oral translation task generated less correct sentences, but only for inversion and verb-final placement. The non-target usage of inversion and verb-final pattern in spoken production points to processing problems when translating from Polish into German, which are further confirmed by lower accuracy for these two phenomena. At the moment of testing, the verbal bracket has already been acquired, which is in line with the universal developmental sequence in the acquisition of German syntax.

    Der Beitrag handelt von den Verbstellungsbesonderheiten im Jiddischen und ihren Auswirkungen auf die interne Struktur der INFL-Phrase. Man beobachtet Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede in der syntaktischen Positionierung des Verbkomplexes im jiddischen Satz im Vergleich zum Deutschen und zum Polnischen. Das Jiddische wird als eine V2-Sprache klassifiziert, aber die Grundwortstellung im Nebensatz weist eine SVO-Reihenfolge auf und die einzelnen Teile des Verbs können voneinander getrennt werden. Die widersprüchlichen Annahmen in der typologischen Einordnung des Jiddischen können zur unterschiedlichen Gliederung der internen IP-Struktur des Jiddischen führen. Diese wird im Beitrag einer gründlichen Analyse unterzogen. Die Untersuchung erfolgt im Rahmen der generativen Grammatik. Relevant sind hier die Regeln der Prinzipien- und Parameter-Theorie (Chomsky 1981) sowie des Minimalistischen Programms (Chomsky 1995). Es wird von der Annahme ausgegangen, dass die nachweisbaren systematischen Distributionsunterschiede der Verben auf die Existenz eines generellen Bewegungsprozesses zurückzuführen sind.
    The aim of the paper is to determine the structure of the INFL phrase in the Yiddish language sentence within the Principles and Parameters framework as well as the Minimalist Program, both formulated by Noam Chomsky. The article contains a syntactic analysis of the Yiddish language sentence in relation to the Polish and the German language with the focus on the verb and its position in the sentence. The aim of the analysis is to find features similar with these of the INFL phrase in the Polish and the German language, as well as parametrical features typical for the Yiddish language. In the syntax of Yiddish the verb in the main sentence has the V 2 feature. It can also take the sentence-initial position. In contrast to the German language the subordinate sentence in Yiddish is developed symmetrically with respect to the main sentence. On the basis of sentence examples taken from selected languages and their analysis conclusions are drawn as to the INFL phrase structure in the Yiddish language.
    Artykuł skupia uwagę na określeniu struktury frazy INFL w zdaniu języka jidysz w ujęciu Teorii Zasad i Parametrów oraz Programu Minimalistycznego Noama Chomsky’go. W artykule przeprowadzono analizę składniową zdań w języku jidysz w odniesieniu do języka polskiego i niemieckiego pod kątem czasownika i zajmowanej przez niego pozycji w zdaniu. Celem analizy jest znalezienie cech zbieżnych z frazą INFL dla języka polskiego i niemieckiego oraz cech parametrycznych, jakie wykazuje język jidysz. W składni jidysz czasownik w zdaniu głównym wykazuje cechę V 2. Może on również zajmować pozycję inicjalną. W odróżnieniu od języka niemieckiego w składni jidysz zdanie podrzędne rozwijane jest symetrycznie do zdania głównego. W oparciu o przykłady zdań zaczerpnięte z wybranych języków oraz ich analizy wysunięto wnioski odnośnie układu frazy INFL języka jidysz.
