W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań dotyczących nierespektowania wskazań sygnalizacji świetlnej przez kierujących tramwajami. Do badań wybrano pięć warszawskich skrzyżowań, na których wcześniejsze obserwacje wskazały na częste przypadki wjeżdżania za sygnalizator w trakcie wyświetlania sygnału zabraniającego. Zjawisko to spowodowane jest zbyt długim czasem oczekiwania na przejazd, bardzo małym lub bardzo dużym natężeniem ruchu bądź niewłaściwie działającymi urządzeniami sterującymi. W trakcie pomiarów terenowych klasyfikowano (według określonych kryteriów) przejazdy do odpowiednich grup. Otrzymane wyniki potwierdziły duży udział procentowy pojazdów przekraczających skrzyżowania w niewłaściwy sposób. Krótka charakterystyka wybranych obiektów (skrzyżowań) pozwoliła na wyciągnięcie wniosków, jakie czynniki mogą prowokować motorniczych do niewłaściwych zachowań.
The paper presents results of research on lack of adherence to traffic light indications by tram operators. The research was based on five intersections in the city of Warsaw, where frequent violations of traffic lights indicating movement-prohibiting signal had been observed in the past. These violations are caused by too long waiting time for right-of way signal, extremely light or extremely heavy traffic conditions, or by faulty traffic control equipment. Types of violations were categorized, based on adopted criteria, during observations taken at research sites. The results confirmed that the percentage of trams crossing intersection in violation was significant. Brief profiling of selected intersections led to conclusions on the factors triggering tram operators to disobey traffic light indications.

This work is part of the research activities developed in our department on the construction of vehicle traffic system simulators (TASKQuart.22(2) 135 [1],20(1) 9 [2],17(3) 155 [3],20(3) 273 [5],14(4) 405 [6],9(4) 397 [7],Simulation Modelling Practice and Theory 17 (4) 625 [8]). The modeling of the traffic system is implemented through the use of queuing networks. In this case we analyze, through a simulation, the impact on traffic flows of a structural change that the Municipal Administration has implemented on the urban road system. The study refers to some works published by us previously about the procedures applied by us to build a simulator. In this case we have developed software allowing us to analyze the data tracked by the system simulations to display it graphically. This procedure enables us to clearly compare the traffic system behavior in its new configuration with the traffic system behavior in the previous configuration.

This paper outlines a study carried out to answer the questions asked by an architect of the Siena Municipality Office during a conference at our Department on the managementof traffic flows through the Siena North city road system. The purpose of the study was to ascertain if changes in the road system introduced and included in the new City Developmen tPlan would resolve the current traffic congestion issues. In order to answer this question, we used the technology for the development of vehicle traffic system simulators which was introduced during our previous projects (TASKQuart.14(4) 405,17(3) 155,20(1) 9,20(3) 273).

The purpose of this paper is to describe the versatility of queuing network systems for modelling vehicular traffic flows in road systems. These techniques are applicable in a simulation context because of the complexity of the resulting models, which can not be solved by mathematical analytical solvers. Moreover, these techniques can be used to model and simulate the behaviour of an automatic control system of vehicular flow in the same frame.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań mających na celu określenie skali niepoprawnego parkowania pojazdów na parkingach zlokalizowanych przy obiektach handlowych. Badane były parkingi naziemne, otwarte, ogólnodostępne, bezpłatne, na których wyznaczone były prostopadłe miejsca postojowe. Do badań wybrano obiekty (parkingi) zlokalizowane w różnych miastach, cechujące się różnymi rozwiązaniami organizacji ruchu i wymiarami stanowisk postojowych. Pomiary dotyczyły najbardziej atrakcyjnych dla klientów sektorów na parkingu. Zachowania uznawano za niepoprawne, gdy pojazd: zaparkował zbyt blisko lub poza liniami rozgraniczającymi, przód lub tył pojazdu wystawał poza miejsce parkingowe, zaparkował w pobliżu przejścia dla pieszych, na chodniku, miejscu zabronionym znakiem zakazu, w pobliżu skrzyżowania lub gdy pojazd nieuprawniony zajmował miejsce dla niepełnosprawnych.
The paper presents results of studies meant to determine the extent of incompliant parking of motor vehicles on designated parking areas at stores and shop-ping centers. The scope of the study included off-street, ground level, free parking lots with unrestricted, public access and right-angle parking spaces. They were located in a number of towns, used variety of traffic patterns and had parking spaces of various sizes. The study focused on the spots most convenient for customers. Parking behaviors were considered incompliant when vehicle: was parked too close or beyond the lines separating individual parking spots, had its front or rear standing out beyond the bounds of the spot, was parked near pedestrian crossing or intersections, or on the sidewalk, was parked where signs prohibited parking or in disabled parking place without due authorization.

The trees of parks and gardens support many species, the survival of urban-dwelling species mainly bird species. Birds amongst other species provide a wide range of environmental and social functions to cities and urban dwellers. The present study aims to know bird diversity in two parks as bioindicator of automobile air pollution exposure, landscape changes and/or human interactions. The study areas were selected as per heavily-populated neighborhoods, nearby office buildings, nearby roads and continuous vehicular movements, human interactions as visitors, where high levels of human disturbance are common. The study was carried out at 2 sampling stations viz (i) Elliot park and (ii) Agri-horticulture Society. The bird species diversity was studied by qualitative and quantitative assessment. Indices were Species richness, Index of Dominance, Relative abundance, Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index and Evenness Index for birds for all selected sites were calculated using the statistical formulae. The present results as bioindicators bird species clearly indicate that the bird species are very few in numbers in both the parks. When comparison made between both the parks, it was observed less number of bird varieties (16 types) in Elliot park than varieties (9 types) more less in number in Agri-horticulture society. This study is a preliminary assessment of bird diversity but further researches are needed in relation to biochemical and genetic damage study as well as air pollution load by using instruments. In the present study it was concluded that the less numbers of birds and their different diversity indices were found a decreasing trends, though there no attempt has been made on physico-chemical properties of present air pollutants. The less number of varieties of bird species are as tolerant bioindicators, which may be due to the vehicular pollution and/or human interference and/or landscape changes due to nearby neighborhood blocks, office and residential buildings, continuous movement of vehicles etc.

In the previous works we presented a study for modeling and simulation of vehicular traffic systems based on queuing networks. Specifically, in paper (Pasini and Bianchini, 2019), we studied the urban network located in North Siena, in the city of Siena (Italy), in its actual layout, after the Municipality had introduced some changes for vehicular flow management. This system is based on two roundabouts and a crossroad, as shown in Figure 1. In this work, we are going to conclude our previous study, comparing the actual vehicular flow and the flow derived from an alternative system, foreseen by the PRG of the Municipality of Siena which is composed of three roundabouts and which has not been implemented yet.

The present study deals to know morphological damages of leaves of four selected plant species near roadside due to vehicular air pollution in Kolkata, India. The selected plant species are Ficus bengalensis, Ficus religiosa, Alstonia scholaris and Neolamarckia cadamba as these are very common as avenue trees. The study area was selected as per Low vehicular load (LVL) as control area, moderate vehicular load (MVL) area, high vehicular load (HVL) area and heavy vehicular load (HeVL) These three sampling stations were selected on the basis of moderate, high and heavy traffic density and continuous vehicular movement as per visualization. The control area was considered as time dependent vehicular movement due to less traffic density. The morphological damages with special reference to length (L), breadth (B) and L/B ratio and visible injuries in leaves. The visible injuries such as pigmentation, chlorosis, necrosis and burning of leaves of four selected species is documented. There was an increasing and decreasing tends in all four plant species at all three vehicular emission exposed sites (MVL, HVL and HeVL) compared to control site (LVL). In all experimental sites such as MVL, HVL and HeVL, the extra growth and reduction pattern significantly (P < 0.001, 0.01 or 0.05) observed when compared to control site (LVL) for L, B and L/B ratio. The visible injuries (in %) of leaves were also observed in increasing trends. This study is a preliminary assessment of tolerant species that already have been used in greenbelt development to protect air pollutants as well as biological monitoring to know exact load of automobile air pollution but further researches are needed in relation to biochemical and genetic damage study. It was observed that out of four selected species Ficus bengalensis, Alstonia scholaris and Neolamarckia cadamba are more tolerant species and Ficus religiosa is a less tolerant species because of these may have fighting abilities by waxy coatings, accumulation and degradation abilities to vehicular air pollution at all exposed area when compared to control area.

In this paper we study \(2\times 2\) systems of conservation laws with discontinuous fluxes arising in vehicular traffic modeling. The main goal is to introduce an appropriate notion of solution. To this aim we consider physically reasonable microscopic follow-the-leader models. Macroscopic Riemann solvers are then obtained as many particle limits. This approach leads us to develop six models. We propose a unified way to describe such models, which highlights their common property of maximizing the density flow across the interface under appropriate physical restrictions depending on the case at hand.

Since occupation is a major determinant of health, traffic police personnel face multiple occupational hazards. They are continuously exposed to vehicular emissions and work in a noisy and polluted environment. The objective of the present review is to explore the impact of occupational health hazards on the health of traffic police personnel. Published research papers on traffic police reporting occupational health issues were accessed and reviewed. Attempts were made to access papers that reported negative associations in order to present a balanced review. The majority of the studies have reported a decrease in the lung function and increased respiratory morbidity. The research on the cytogenetic abnormalities or genotoxic effect of vehicular emissions arising due to long-term exposure to benzene and other polyaromatic hydrocarbons has provided conflicting results, since more or less equal numbers of studies have given evidence for and against the causal association. There is a vast accumulation of epidemiological evidence on the casual association between vehicular pollution and its carcinogenic effect. Multiple studies have concluded that traffic police are highly stressed. A number of occupational factors have been attributed to stress among traffic police. Occupational health studies help us to understand the effects of vehicular pollution and its adverse influence on workers. They also provide opportunity for defined exposures measurements and precise risk assessment. The findings from these studies are easily generalizable and can help us understand the impact of air pollution on the general population.

In this paper delays and average travel times of vehicles are analyzed for various decentralized traffic control algorithms that can provide priority for ambulances. Decentralized control strategy is scalable and can be used in road networks where traffic lights are controlled autonomously for multiple intersections of different types. The experiments were performed in a realistic simulation model of complex road network, which is typical for European cities. It was shown that utilization of detailed traffic data from vehicular sensor network significantly improves the performance of signal control algorithms. After proper selection of algorithm parameters, the decentralized control strategy not only provides a quick transition of ambulances, but also has minimal effect on the delay of non-priority vehicles. Research for mesh road network organization has been performed in previous work [16].
