Powieść Novendialia (2008) ukraińskiej autorki Maryny Sokolian (ur. 1979) z elementami detektywistycznymi i horroru miejskiego opowiada o bitwach pomiędzy porywaczami energii życiowej a jej obrońcami ze służby Nocnego Magistratu. W tekście rozważane są religijne i psychologiczne aspekty rozmaitych aluzji oraz implikacje wyobrażonego autorskiego systemu mitycznomagicznego z punktu widzenia religii, filozofii, psychologii (zwłaszcza psychoanalizy). Cena życia i śmierci dowodzi, że pisarka wpisuje się w typ powieści o samorealizacji, poświęceniu i namiętnościach.
The novel entitled Novendialia (2008) by a Ukrainian authoress Maryna Sokolian (1979) with elements of a detective story and urban horror tells about fights between life energy kidnappers and its defenders employed by the Night Town Hall. In the text religious and psychologic aspects of various allusions are considered as well as authoress’ implications of fictitious mythicalmagical system from the point of view of religion, philosophy, psychology (especially psychoanalysis). The price of life and death proves that the writer fits in the type of a novel on selffulfilment, sacrifice and passions.

Przedmiotem badań są funkcje nazwy własnej występujące w powieści Czerwona wiosna Józefa Łobodowskiego (1909 –1988), pisarza emigracyjnego. Funkcje te określone zostały na podstawie wydobytego z przestrzeni miejskiej międzywojennego Lublina nazewnictwa poświadczonego w wymienionym utworze. Urbanonimy powieściowe to autentyczne nazwy własne ulic, placów, dzielnic itd. grodu nad Bystrzycą. Funkcjonują w przestrzeni zamkniętej wyznaczonej przez centrum i peryferia, np. ulica Podwale określa swoje miejsce w przestrzeni miejskiej w stosunku do granic grodu (dawnych wałów obronnych). Podobnie Brama Krakowska otwiera przestrzeń Starego Miasta na zewnątrz w kierunku Krakowskiego Przedmieścia. Nazwy własne w miejskiej przestrzeni ówczesnego Lublina obok funkcji lokalizacyjnej, identyfikacyjnej i wyodrębniającej pełnią funkcję socjologiczną. Nazwa Podzamcze charakteryzuje zamieszkującą tę dzielnicę ludność jako żydowską; podobnie ówczesne Bronowice jako dzielnicę robotniczą. Funkcja ekspresywna powieściowych urbanonimów wyznacza stosunek emocjonalny bohatera i pisarza do określonych fragmentów przestrzeni miejskiej Lublina, miasta młodości bohatera powieści – Józefa Zakrzewskiego i arkadii młodości autora Czerwonej wiosny, Józefa Łobodowskiego.
Об’єктом даного дослідження є функції власних назв, що з’являються в романі Червона весна польського письменника-емігранта Юзефа Лободовського (1909–1988). Ці функції були визначені на основі номенклатури, вилученої з міського простору міжвоєнного Любліна, засвідченої у згаданому романі. Присутні в повісті урбаноніми – це реальні власні назви вулиць, площ, районів тощо міста на річці Бистшиця. Вони функціонують у замкнутому просторі, визначеному центром та периферією міста, наприклад, вулиця Podwale визначає своє місце у міському просторі відносно меж городу (колишні захисні вали). Подібним чином, Краківські ворота (Brama Krakowska) відкривають простір Старого міста в напрямку до Краківського передмістя (Krakowskie Przedmieście). Власні імена в міському просторі тодішнього Любліна, крім місця розташування, функції ідентифікації та розрізнення, виконують соціологічну функцію. Назва Підзамче (Podzamcze) характеризує населення, що проживає в цьому районі, як єврейське; так само, як Броновіце (Bronowice) – як район робочого класу. Виразна функція міських імен роману визначає емоційне ставлення головного героя та письменника до конкретних фрагментів міського простору Любліна, міста молодості героя роману – Юзефа Закржевського та аркадії молодості автора Червоної весни Юзефа Лободовського.
The subject of research is the functions of the proper names present in the novel “Czerwona wiosna [The Red Spring]” by Józef Łobodowski (1909-1988), an émigré writer. These functions have been defined based on the names extracted from the urban space of interwar Lublin evidenced in the work in question. The urbanonyms in the novel are genuine proper names of the streets, squares, districts, etc. in the city on the Bystrzyca River (i.e. Lublin). They function within the enclosed space defined by the center and the outskirts, for example Podwale street [meaning: at the defensive wall] defines its place in the urban space in relations to the town limits (former defensive walls). Similarly Brama Krakowska [the Krakow Gate] opens the space of Stare Miasto [Old Town quarter] outside towards Krakowskie Przedmieście [Krakow outskirt] street. In addition to their function of location, identification and distinction the proper names in the city space of the then Lublin perform a sociological function. The name Podzamcze characterizes the population living in this quarter as Jewish; similarly, the name Bronowice characterizes the quarter as a working class district. The expressive function of the urbanonyms in the novel defines the attitude of the main character and the writer towards specific fragments of Lublin’s urban space – the city of the novel’s hero Józef Zakrzewski’s youth and the arcadia of Józef Łobodowski’s youth (the author of “The Red Spring”).

The article is dedicated to the problem of urban marginalisation of the elderly reflected in literature. Through an evolutionary comparative approach, the treatment of the subject is shown in an Argentine novel by Ana María Shua, La muerte como efecto secundario, published in 1997, and a Spanish novel from the year 2020, Los ancianos siderales, by Luis Mateo Díez. Both books, concentrated around the issue of residential homes, can be perceived as prose of social denunciation. However, they represent different aesthetics and styles: an epistolary narrative in the form of a long monologue in the Argentine novel, belonging to the current of future anticipation fiction; and a choral literature of fractal aesthetics in the most recent book by the Spanish author, marked by a surrealist and oneiric approach. The article offers a comparison of the images of senectitude in both novels, then of the representations of care homes and, finally, describes the characteristics of the societies that allow and support this abusive system.

Le personnage principal de la série policière mondialement célèbre d’Ian Rankin est l’Inspecteur Rebus, qui déambule, dérive, file ou poursuit des suspects à pied et en voiture dans la ville d’Edimbourg. Dans chaque roman, la narration parcourt un certain nombre de lieux référentiels et les examine à travers le prisme du temps, construisant peu à peu une carte diachronique de la ville. Comme la série s’étire sur plus de trente ans, l’espace urbain évolue à mesure du déroulement de la narration. Ian Rankin rend compte de la croissance urbaine en temps réel, et s’en inspire pour nourrir l’intrigue de ses romans. L’assemblage des morceaux de la carte est donc une entreprise sans fin, et les lignes de fuite de la géographie littéraire d’Edimbourg tendent vers un horizon qui s’éloigne toujours. 
Ian Rankin’s world-famous crime series features as a main character the city of Edinburgh, where Inspector Rebus relentlessly wanders, drives, drifts, tails and chases suspects. In each novel, the narrative visits a number of referential locations and examines them through the prism of time, slowly building a diachronic map of the city. As the series spans more than thirty years, the urban locus evolves as the narrative unfolds. Ian Rankin takes stock of new urban developments in real time and draws on them to feed his plots. Piecing a map together therefore remains a work in progress, and the literary geography of Edinburgh gazes out at an endlessly elusive horizon.

In this article, I analyze the relations between humans, non-humans, and infrastructure in Vjeran Miladinović Merlinka’s fictionalized autobiography Terezin sin. I argue that queer humans and non-humans share a particular ontological and axiological space and time in urban ecology in relation to the built environment of cis-heteronormative socius grounded in reproductive heterosexuality.The fictionalized autobiography that is explored in this article offers a particular view of minoritarian relation as it depicts a queer form of relationality that is lived sideways to the cis-heteronormativity and reproductive heterosexuality as an oppressive form of life that creates a specific kind of infrastructural intimacy for itself in the urban built environment. Relations between queer humans andnon-humans under these conditions are decidedly messy, as they are described as both caring and exploitative in Terezin sin.

This article investigates contemporary Hungarian women’s writing in the context of cosmopolitan feminism. The literary works explored are Noémi Szécsi’s The Finno-Ugrian Vampire, Noémi Kiss’s Trans and Virág Erdős’s Luminous Bodies: 100 Little Budapest, which I read as examples of a cosmopolitan feminist engagement with urban space. As opposed to the Kantian concept of cosmopolitanism, which has been critiqued for failing to take the experiences of particular social groups and geographical regions into account, cosmopolitan feminism focuses on the local and the embodied. The discussed texts thematise border crossing both on the level of form and content, while they engage with the mundane, affective aspects of everyday life in an emphatically urban setting. This cosmopolitan feminism challenges parochial, heavy, national literary traditions and points towards a distinct feministaesthetics in contemporary Hungarian literature.
Artykuł bada współczesne węgierskie pisarstwo kobiece w kontekście kosmopolitycznego feminizmu. Analizie poddano trzy utwory: Finnugor vampire Noémi Szécsi, Trans Noémi Kiss oraz Világító testek: 100 kis Budapest Erdős Virág. Utwory te czytam jako przykłady zaangażowania kosmopolitycznego feminizmu w przestrzeń miejską. W przeciwieństwie do kantowskiej koncepcji kosmopolityzmu, krytykowanej za nieuwzględnianie doświadczeń poszczególnych grup społecznych i regionów geograficznych, kosmopolityczny feminizm koncentruje się na tym, co lokalne i ucieleśnione. Omawiane dzieła dotyczą przekraczania granic pod względem zarówno formy, jak i treści, a jednocześnie angażują się w powszednie, afektywne aspekty codziennego życia w przestrzeni miejskiej. Ów kosmopolityczny feminizm kwestionuje zaściankowe, ciężkie, narodowe tradycje literackie i wskazuje na wyraźną linię estetyki feministycznej we współczesnej literaturze węgierskiej.

The writings of Sylwia Chutnik are mainly interpreted from the two perspectives: gender and urban (Warsaw). These two perspectives are intertwined in her novels, starting from her very first Kieszonkowy atlas kobiet and continuing till her most recent collection of short stories W krainie czarów, thus giving her prose specific, seditious, and emergency character. This article attempts at firstly, showing Chutnik’s writing as a creative (and increasingly interesting, vide Cwaniary) way of developing fundamental beliefs and problems, narrative and plot structure devices, and literary patterns already used (if only in embryonic form) in the four stories of her first book. Secondly, the article attempts at presenting the literary intertextual background of this prose – exceptionally rich, conscious and… effective.
L’oeuvre de Sylwia Chutnik est perçue avant tout dans deux contextes : genriste et municipal (varsovien). Les deux perspectives s’entrelacent dans ses romans – du premier ouvrage Kieszonkowy atlas kobiet jusqu’au dernier recueil de récits W krainie czarów – et déterminent un caractère spécifique, séditieux et interventionnel de cette littérature. Premièrement, on a essayé de présenter l’écriture de Chutnik comme un développement créatif (de plus en plus intéressant, voir Cwaniary de ses convictions et problèmes essentiels, de ses procédés narratifs et ceux d’affabulation, ainsi que de ses modèles littéraires visibles déjà (au moins à l’état embryonnaire) dans quatre récits de son premier roman ; deuxièmement, on a essayé de présenter l’arrière-plan littéraire et intertextuel de cette prose – exceptionnellement riche, conscient et… efficace.

Environmental pollution in cities is an increasingly popular issue tackled in research. One of the elements with a significant impact on the state of urban ecosystems is transport with its pressure on individual components of the environment. Sustainable urban transport is gaining prominence as a postulate expressed in cities’ strategic documents, constituting an element alleviating the negative effects of anthropopressure. In the light of the need to introduce innovative solutions for clean forms of transport, numerous papers indicate the bicycle as an answer to some of those problems. The article presents a review of literature referring to the socio-economic aspects of using the bicycle in cities as a means of transport for daily commuting. The analysis is based on publications on cyclist safety in road traffic, the perception of the bicycle as a means of transport in cities, and the introduction of innovative solutions, such as bicycle-sharing systems.

On the basis of two indecidable texts (Thomas Clerc, “Paris, musée du XXIe siècle. Le dixième arrondissement”, Gallimard 2007 and Philippe Vasset, “Un livre blanc”, Fayard 2007), we will reflect on new approaches to the city in contemporary French litterature. Clerc and Vasset, in their respective texts, suggest considering litterature as a series of practices connected with the exploration of the city (Clerc) and of the urban area (Vasset) according to the idea of an arbitrary itinerary. The image of the city whose space, subject to a permanent process of museification, is constantly considered to be a work of art (Clerc) contrasts with a project of viewing the deserted areas of the city and of its surroundings as an infinite collection of “artistic installations” created in daily life (Vasset). Clerc’s and Vasset’s artistic mentality leads them to the fascination with “works of involuntary art”, both concrete signs and tangible proof of the transitional period which they try to describe systematically, following, at the same time, the principles of an axonometric city map.

The aim of the present study is to examine if Patricia Briggs’ series about the adventures of Mercy Thompson can be considered as a literary work for young feminists. The analysis of the protagonist (an urban hunter and a shapeshifter) and some events in her life (relationship with her partner and rape) demonstrates the feminist aspect of the series.

The aim of this paper is twofold. The first part of the paper discusses development of the city image in Western literature and gives insight into visual methods Central European authors of the twentieth century have used to depict the city in their works. The second part of the paper shows how the urban space is represented, documented, evoked, and performed in the novels of Michal Ajvaz, Marija Jurić Zagorka, and George Konrad.

Opis:
The type and speed of changes that are taking place in today’s world as well as the architecture of the changing social relations and the mode of participating in space directly affect the nature of cities. The article is an attempt of showing the impact of changes in the modern city on urban tourism and connecting them with the image of the tourist identity of literary heroes in the latest Polish prose. The paper is based on findings from the fields of tourism anthropology, urban sociology and the prose of Polish authors born in the 70s and 80s. The combination of tourism and literary perspective aims at showing the relationship between new forms of urban tourism and the experience of urban tourists that is present in the Polish prose. The diagnosis is based on the distinction between two types of spaces of global cities: hyperspace and peripheral space, as well as reflections on the category of the tourist gaze.
