Opis:: On wheat seeds harvested in Upper Silesia (south-western Poland) a large number of species of Fusarium were recorded. Fusarium avenaceum and F. culmorum were most commonly isolated. Flooding of fields for 1-7 days caused the increase of pathogenic Fusarium spp. in seed samples, especially F. culmorum. The infection of seeds caused a rapid decrease of their viability, and negatively affected health status of emerging seedlings in field conditions, in spite of performed chemical treatment.
W artykule przedstawiono wyniki analizy mikologicznej ziarna pszenicy ozimej z terenów objętych powodzią na Górnym Śląsku (południowo-zachodnia Polska). Zalanie upraw pszenicy wodą przez okres 1-7 dni spowodowało wzrost udziału w mikoflorze ogólnej ziarna patogenicznych gatunków Fusarium, głównie F. culmorum. Procentowy udział gatunku F. avenaceum w grupie patogenicznych gatunków z tego rodzaju był wyższy na ziarnie z terenów niezalanych wodą. Stwierdzono negatywny wpływ wysokiego zasiedlenia ziarna przez gatunki Fusarium na jego zdrowotność, co wyrażało się znacznym obniżeniem siły kiełkowania w czasie jego przechowywania oraz obniżeniem zdrowotności siewek.

Opis:: The occurrence of leaf blotch of wheat caused by Septoria tritici (teleomorph Mycosphaerella graminicola) was more frequent in 1996 in the Upper Silesia region, south-western Poland, than in previous years. Visual scoring and serological tests proved the most rapid development of the disease from the emergence of flag leaf (GS 49) onwards. At the end of dough ripe stage (GS 85) on necrotic spots appearing on leaves the teleomorph of the fungus was stated, although asci were not fully mature. After a period of storage, on the necrotic tissue with pseudothecia, placed on water agar-streptomycin and subjected to low temperatures for 2-3 weeks, mature asci and germinating ascospores forming single conidia on ramifying mycelium were abundant.
Występowanie plamistości liści powodowanych przez Septoria tritici (teleomorf Mycosphaerella graminicola) było częściej spotykane w 1996 roku niż w latach poprzednich w Rejonie Górnego Śląska. Wizualne oceny i test serologiczny wykazały najszybszy rozwój choroby od fazy rozwiniętego liścia flagowego (GS 49) i później. W końcu fazy dojrzałości ciastowatej pszenicy (GS 85) na znekrotyzowanych plamach stwierdzono teleomorf grzyba Septoria tritici, jednakże worki nie były w pełni dojrzałe. Po okresie przechowywania znekrotyzowane tkanki z pseudotecjami umieszczano na wodnym agarze ze streptomycyną i poddawano niskiej temperaturze przez 2-3 tygodnie. Obserwowano liczne dojrzałe worki i kiełkujące askospory formujące pojedyncze konidia na rozgałęzionej grzybni.

Opis:: In the present paper arable soils of the Upper Silesia were evaluated as to copper, zinc, manganese and iron contents, determined in the same extract, i.e. 1 M dm-3 HCl. The studies comprised 20 points in the vicinity of Sosnowiec and 20 points from near Zawiercie. Soil abundance in the available forms of microelements was assessed on the basis of the limiting numbers suggested by the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation. Soils of Zawiercie and Sosnowiec belonged to those with high contents of zinc in all the cases; in the majority of objects these were the soils with medium contents of copper and manganese. In half of the cases, the soils were classified as possessing low iron content, and in the remaining half as having medium iron content.

Opis:: Exposure to indoor allergens, especially dust mites has been recognized as a risk factor for sensitization and allergy symptoms that in extreme conditions could develop into asthma. To determine specific antigens responsible for allergy in patients positive for mite allergy skin tests whole protein extracts from the cultured mite species Tyrophagus putrescentiae [TP], and from their excrements were obtained. The proteins were fractionated by SDS PAGE and identified by Western blot. The patient antibodies against particular antigens were identified in serum IgE fraction using anti-human anti-IgE monoclonal antibody. Western blot analysis revealed differences in reactivity of sera from patients positive for standard mite allergy skin tests with fractionated mite antigens. A total of 17 of 30 sera (56.7%) from patients positive to skin tests showed specific cross reactivity with antigens isolated from extracts of TP. The results revealed that 12 out of 30 tested sera (40.0%) reacted specifically with new antigens identified as protein fractions of extracts from excrements of TP. When assessing mite allergen reaction using mixture of mite proteins the results of the test are not satisfactory for determining the antigen causing patient allergy. The results obtained from studies reported here indicate significant discrepancy between the so called standard allergy skin test and what the patient is actually sensitive to. Also, a new class of immunizing protein of about 25 kDa has been identified in excrements from TP reacting with IgE from patients showing allergy to other mite extracts. A total of 4 of 30 sera (approx. 13.3%) from patients positive to skin tests showed specific cross reactivity with antigens isolated from mite excrements rather than from mite whole extracts.

Opis:: The results of studies of the mycorrhizal status of plant species spontaneously established on the soda heap located in Jaworzno (Upper Silesia, Poland) are presented. Additionally, the species of arbuscular fungi of the phylum Glomeromycota extracted from field-collected rhizosphere substrate samples of the heap are showed. Arbuscular mycorrhizae were described in 17 plant species. Five Glomus spp. were recognized in the spore populations of arbuscular fungi isolated. The investigation presented in this paper for the first time revealed Centaurea stoebe and Trifolium montanum to be hosts of arbuscular fungi.

Opis:: Mining activity, within the Upper Silesian Industrial Region resulted in numerous mining damage - especially the discontinuous deformations. They are developed in effect of shallow coal seams extraction or are connected with Zn-Pb ore mining. Within the Syncline of Bytom the shallow ore mining, folIowed by coal mining, carried out at bigger depth led to reactivation of abandoned ore workings, and formation of mining damage to the surface. The main factors controlling the deformations over old, shallow workings comprise several categories of variabIes: size of mine workings, mining conditions, rock massif characteristics, stability of external conditions, and time. Most of the recent theories and solutions underline the role of variables defining the space and size of old workings. Existing models processes of deformation due to shallow mining allow the assessment of the character and size of sinkholes formed on the surface, over worked out parts of rock massif. They are efficient in forecasting surface deformations within the areas of simple geological setting. Problem of wider application of the forecasting methods in development planning remains still open, moreover the techniques of prevention against sudden deformation, and degraded land reclamation need to be constantly developed.

Opis:: The article was devoted to multidimensional changes to which Upper-Silesia has been subjected during two decades of transformation (1989-2009). They mostly consists in shifting the development of the region from industry to services sector. This type of changes also causes the regional social structure to be subjected to transformations. The number and significance of the working class, including mining, iron and steel industry workers, is decreasing and the middle class is gradually emerging. A mine and a foundry, icons of the old industrial region, are replaced by zonal firms, universities or colleges. A subtitle of the article refers, on the one hand, to one page of Józef Chalasinski's work in which he described national tensions in a factory settlement Kopalnia in 1934 (that is in Murcki - southern district of Katowice). On the other hand, the subtitle refers to Upper-Silesian Metropolitan Association, set up in 2007. It embraces 14 Silesian and industrial area cities, symbolizing arduous creation of a new social, spacial, ecological and economic quality. This is probably the decline of a traditional Silesian borderland region and the emergence of a mosaic region. The latter one combines heterogeneous societies of differentiated history and traditions, which have been located within the borders of Silesian region since 1999.
Artykuł poświęcony jest przeobrażeniom, jakim w dekadach transformacyjnych (1989–2009) podlega Górny Śląsk. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza przesunięcia rozwoju z sektora przemysłowego do usług. Ten typ zmian sprawia, że przeobrażeniom ulega również regionalna struktura społeczna. Spada znaczenie klasy robotniczej, w tym jej górników i hutników, a powoli rodzi się klasa średnia. Kopalnia i huta, ikony regionu przemysłowego, ustępują miejsca firmom strefowym, uniwersytetowi czy szkołom wyższym. Podtytuł nawiązuje do pracy Józefa Chałasińskiego, który opisywał w 1935 roku napięcia narodowe w osadzie fabrycznej Kopalnia (czyli w Murckach dzielnicy Katowic) oraz do Górnośląskiego Związku Metropolitalnego. Skupia on 14 miast śląskich oraz zagłębiowskich, symbolizując powstawanie nowej jakości społecznej, przestrzennej, ekologicznej i ekonomicznej. To prawdopodobnie też schyłek tradycyjnego śląskiego pogranicza kulturowego i pojawienie się regionu mozaikowego, który łączy społeczności heterogeniczne o zróżnicowanej historii, tradycji, ulokowane wszelako w obrębie województwa śląskiego od 1999 roku.

Opis:: Zmiany, jakie zachodziły przez lata w strukturze organizacyjnej, związane były ze zmianami w przepisach prawa lub obejmowaniem przez KZK GOP działalności w określonym segmencie, np. administracja budynkiem czy projekty europejskie. Obecna, rozbudowana struktura organizacyjna powoduje znaczne wydłużenie drogi służbowej i procesów decyzyjnych oraz małą elastyczność w podejmowaniu określonych działań. Dodatkowo negatywnie na sprawność funkcjonowania biura KZK GOP wpływa polityczny charakter organu wykonawczego, jakim jest zarząd KZK GOP. Czerpiąc z doświadczeń organizacyjnych innych zarządów transportu oraz biorąc pod uwagę faktyczną strukturę wykonywanych działań, można zaproponować inne podejście do kształtowania struktury organizacyjnej biura KZK GOP.
The changes which have taken place in recent years in the organisational structure of KZK GOP were connected with both changes in legal regulations or initiation of some activities is a particular segment such as administration of the building and with European projects. Present, developed organisational structure causes a significant lengthening of the official channel and the decision-making process and low flexibility in initiation of certain actions. Additionally, the political character of the administrative body called the Board influences the effectiveness of the Office negatively. Some other approach to organisational structure in the Office of KZK GOP could be suggested, taking into consideration the experience in management of other boards of transport sector and the structures of their tasks.

Opis:: Artykuł stanowi przegląd przeprowadzonych dotychczas badań palinologicznych utworów kambru bloku górnośląskiego, rozpoznanych otworami wiertniczymi w regionie krakowskim, którego zasięg terytorialny został zdefiniowany w ramach projektu badawczego MNiSW NN 525 051033 „Prekambr i paleozoik regionu krakowskiego – model budowy geologicznej – jego aspekt utylitarny”. Na obszarze tym, w 13 wierceniach udokumentowano zróżnicowane zespoły mikroskamieniałości charakterystyczne dla utworów dolnokambryjskich formacji z Borzety i formacji z Goczałkowic wyróżnionych na bloku górnośląskim. Najstarsze dolnokambryjskie zespoły mikroskamieniałości, typowe dla formacji z Borzety, wystepują w analizowanym obszarze w 10 profilach wiertniczych. Charakteryzują się one stosunkowo słabym zróżnicowaniem morfologicznym. Dużą różnorodnoocią form oraz wyraźną zmiennością odznaczają się natomiast zespoły mikroskamieniałości w formacji z Goczałkowic, co pozwala na wyznaczenie zespołów typowych dla wyróżnianych w jej profilu ogniw – piaskowców bioturbacyjnych z Głogoczowa i mułowców z trylobitami z Pszczyny, w trzech otworach wiertniczych. Asocjacje mikroflory udokumentowane w osadach ogniwa piaskowców bioturbacyjnych z Głogoczowa charakteryzują sie dominacją delikatnie urzeźbionych akritach, z nowym przewodnim dla tego ogniwa rodzajem Ichnosphaera. Zespoły akritach ogniwa mułowców z trylobitami z Pszczyny odznaczają sie pojawieniem taksonów o zróżnicowanej morfologii i dominacją dolnokambryjskiego rodzaju Skiagia.
The paper reviews the palynological studies carried out to date on Cambrian deposits of the Upper Silesian Block explored by boreholes drilled in the Kraków region. Differentiated assemblages of organic microfossils characteristic of the lower Cambrian deposits of the Borzęta and Goczałkowice formations from the Upper Silesian Block were documented in 13 boreholes. The oldest Lower Cambrian microfossil assemblages, which are typical of the Borzęta Formation, occur in the Kraków region in 10 boreholes, but their morphological differentiation is rather poor. On the other hand, the assemblages from the Goczałkowice Formation are characterized by a significant diver-sity and variability of forms. Thus, in three boreholes, it helped to find assemblages which were typical of particular members distinguished in the formation, namely: the Głogoczów Bioturbated Sandstones Member and the Pszczyna Siltstones with Trilobites Member. Microflora associations, documented in the Głogoczów Bioturbated Sandstones Member, are characterized by finely ornamented acritarchs with Ichnosphaera – a new index genus. The acritarcha assemblages of the Pszczyna Siltstones with Trilobites Member are characterized by the presence of morphologically differentiated specimens and predominance of the Lower Cambrian Skiagia species.
