historiography
Opis:
The aim of the article is depiction of the scientific cooperation between historians from Szczecin and Greifswald which is continuously developed in the beginning of the 21st century. The cooperation based primary on the DAAD guest professorship of Prof. Joerg Hackemann at the Institute for History and International Relationships at the University of Szczecin, lectures held by Prof. Lutz Oberdörfer from Greifswald, workshops at the EMAU lead by Dr. Paweł Migdalski, various research projects presented there by Dr. Rafał Simiński and Dr. Tomasz Ślepowroński. To mention be in this context the activity of Prof. Włodzimierz Stępiński and Prof. Jan M. Piskorski in the German scientific life and their participation at many debates and historical conferences. The rich contacts between the historians from both Pomeranian universities are referred to in a new and original form of a Szczecin–Gryfino postgraduate programme, started in the 21st century by the Institute for History and International Relationships at the University of Szczecin and Historisches Institut Ernst Moritz Arndt Universität Greifswald. Within this undertaking two meetings of postgraduates took place where their scientific output was presented: on the 3rd/4th November 2010 in Szczecin and on the 26th/28th Mai 2011 in Greifswald. This initiative is for young researchers of importance – it allows their development outside of the only one, native research milieu. Unfortunately, the project of postgraduates from Szczecin and Greifswald is one of only few initiatives within the Polish-German historical neighbourhood.

The History of Education, one of the courses offered at teacher education studies at the University of Szczecin, has been taught since the 1960’s. It was then when Teacher Education College in Szczecin was set up as a branch of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. In 1973 Teacher Education College was transformed into an independent unit – Pedagogy Academy. The establishment of the University of Szczecin in 1985 marked a new chapter in the process of the development of the history of education as a course offered at pedagogical studies. History of Education Department was set up in 1992 and professor Danuta Koźmian was chair of the department throughout its existence. Scientific and didactic work of professor Danuta Koźmian first at Teacher Education College, through Pedagogy Academy and the University of Szczecin has been crucial for the development of the history of education as a course taught at teacher education studies in Szczecin. In 2008 professor Danuta Koźmian retired and the Council of the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Szczecin established the Chair for the History of Education appointing professor Wiesław Andrukowicz, Ph.D its head.

Aerobiological measurements were made by the volumetric method (VPPS Lanzoni and Burkard instruments). Concentrations of microscopic fungi were measured from April 16th to July 2nd, 2013, in two rooms of the Chair of Botany and Natural Environment Protection, Faculty of Biology, Szczecin University. The study was undertaken to perform mycological analysis of the air in selected rooms. Mycological contamination of the air in the surveyed areas was not diverse in terms of species composition. Nearly three times higher concentrations of fungal spores were recorded in the seminar room. The most abundant were spores of fungi from the genus Cladosporium. The concentration of fungal spores of Cladosporium, Botrytis and Aspergillus/Penicillium exceeds the limits.
Stwierdzono przekroczenia dopuszczalnych wartości stężeń spor grzybów z rodzaju Cladosporium, Botrytis i typu Aspergillus/Penicillium.

So far, in the history of the modern Summer Olympic Games, the event has not been organized only three times – due to World Wars – in 1916 (6th Olympic Games), 1940 (12th Olympic Games), and 1944 (13th Olympic Games). For the first time in its 124-year history, the International Olympic Committee decided (on March 24, 2020) to postpone the Games to the following year due to the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The 32nd Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 were held between July 23 and August 8, 2021, in a strict sanitary regime. The purpose of this paper is: to present the academic status of athletes – students and graduates of the University of Szczecin – who participated of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020; to present key sports achievement to-date of these athletes; to analyze the sports results obtained by them in athletics in the context of medals won at the 32nd Olympic Games. The Polish Olympic team who participated in Tokyo 2020 included three athletes (runners), associated with the University of Szczecin: Patryk Dobek – 800 m run, Marcin Lewandowski – 1,500 m run, and Adam Nowicki – marathon. The coaching staff of Polish athletes included another graduate of the University of Szczecin, Jacek Kostrzeba. Additionally, Marek Kolbowicz, PhD – an employee of the Institute of Physical Culture Sciences at the Faculty of Health and Physical Culture of the University of Szczecin (INoKF WKFiZ US) – acted as a TV commentator/rowing expert. WKFiZ US’ student – Patryk Dobek – won a bronze medal in the 800 m run, which was an unexpected surprise in the Polish Olympic team.

Opis:
Club coaches, national team coaches, as well as Olympic or Paralympic team coaches are those trainers who use their knowledge, professionalism and experience to lead their trainees to achieve sports results that satisfy athletes as well as coaches and authorities of Polish associations of various sports disciplines practiced by the athletes. A good trainer is the most important person in the coaching team, as they supervise the whole participation of their Olympians or Paralympians. Among the graduates of the Szczecin University’s Physical Education, there are many trainers of various sports disciplines. They are club coaches, national team coaches and they also hold coaching functions at the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The aim of this paper is to: present the university (student) characteristics of the analyzed coaches and a physiotherapist who stand among the potential candidates to be appointed for the coaching and medical staff of their trainees (including the football team) who will fight for qualification standards guaranteeing them participation in the 32nd Summer Olympics or 16th Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020; showing the current coaching activity of the trainers and a physiotherapist in question; presenting the criteria and eligibility rules which the athletes of the coaches and the physiotherapist need to obtain to take part in the Tokyo Olympic or Paralympic competition. The research material consists of six graduates of the University of Szczecin, who majored in Physical Education, and who currently work primarily in the coaching team (Tomasz Kaźmierczak, Jacek Kostrzeba, Tomasz Lewandowski, Grzegorz Musztafaga, Miłosz Stępiński) and the medical/therapeutic team (Beata Buryta). All of the analyzed graduates of the University of Szczecin are among the trainers and physiotherapists who are candidates for the Polish national team for the 32nd Olympic Games or the 16th Paralympics Games Tokyo 2020. Tomasz Kaźmierczak – he will definitely be present for the fourth time at the Summer Games Tokyo 2020 as a coach for disabled rowers (previous participations in 2008, 2012, and 2016). The trainees of the coaches in question (except for the football team) can be included into the Polish team participating in the Summer Games Tokyo 2020 and at least compete in finals during the Olympic or Paralympic competition.

Artykuł jest zapisem rozmowy z prof. Szkice z teorii i historii literatury (1994). Prezentowaną rozmowę przeprowadził Piotr Krupiński we wrześniu 2008 roku. Profesor Kuźma był jednym z założycieli szczecińskiej polonistyki uniwersyteckiej i właśnie próbie rekonstrukcji dziejów akademickiego literaturoznawstwa w Szczecinie poświęcono główną część wywiadu.
The article documents a conversation with Prof. Erazm Kuźma (1926–2014), a literary theorist, historian and critic from Szczecin, the author of such books as Z problemów świadomości literackiej i artystycznej ekspresjonizmu w Polsce (From Problems of Literary and Artistic Awareness of Expressionism in Poland) (1976), Mit Orientu i kultury Zachodu w literaturze XIX i XX wieku (The Myth of the Orient and the Culture of the West in the 19th and 20th-century Literature) (1980), Między konstrukcją a destrukcją. Szkice z teorii i historii literatury (Between Construction and Destruction. Sketches from Literary Theory and History) (1994). The presented conversation was conducted by Piotr Krupiński in September 2008. Prof. Kuźma was one of the founders Polish studies at the University of Szczecin and the main part of the interview was an attempt to reconstruct the history of academic literary studies in Szczecin. But talking about the past, Prof. Kuźma is also trying to anticipate. What is the future of Polish literary studies? Is there a place for humanists in the modern world? These are just a few of the issues raised during the conversation.

Opis:
Balancing sports practice at the highest world level with university education is a difficult – but feasible – task. An example of such skilful balance are some graduates of the Higher Pedagogical School in Szczecin, University of Szczecin, majoring in Physical Education, who graduated from the university with a successfully defended Master's thesis while being active athletes. The aim of this paper is: to present current students of the Faculty of Physical Culture and Health Promotion of the University of Szczecin (WKFiPZ US) and a graduate of the Institute of Physical Culture of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at the University of Szczecin (IKF WNP US) as potential candidates of various disciplines for the 32nd Summer Olympic or 16th Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020; to show their sports achievements in previous Olympic and Paralympic Games; to present the indicators and qualification rules that the analysed athletes must follow to represent Poland in the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. The study involved a group of seven athletes, current students of the University of Szczecin, Faculty of Physical Culture and Health Promotion: Patryk Dobek, Michał Gadowski, Marcin Lewandowski, Piotr Lisek, Katarzyna Mądrowska, Paulina Woźniak, Krystian Zalewski and one graduate of the Institute of Physical Culture of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Szczecin, Anna Harkowska. All of them are members of the national Polish team in their respective sport disciplines. They compete in their respective sports disciplines in which they strive for qualifying standards which guarantee a start in the 32nd Summer Olympic or the 16th Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020. Piotr Lisek has the best chance of winning a medal in Tokyo in pole vault, as well as the following disabled athletes: Anna Harkowska in cycling, Michał Gadowski in rowing, and Paulina Woźniak in swimming. Marcin Lewandowski – a titled European medallist in the 800 m race will probably compete in his fourth Summer Olympics Tokyo 2020 (he participated in 2008, 2012, and 2016) and this time will fight for the best place amongst the finalist in the 1,500 m race.

Opis:
The history of the University of Szczecin’s foundation in the 1980s is inextricably linked to the political situation of the time and the acute conflict taking place nationwide, but also present in West Pomerania and Szczecin. Thus, the period of its foundation significantly influenced its final form in 1985, which, due to the heavy dependence of its governing body on party structures and its declared ideological closeness to the Polish United Workers’ Party (PZPN), was called a “red university”. This image was not reflected in official mass media, but firmly anchored in the pages of underground magazines published uncensored by the dissident opposition of the time. The value of independence meant that authors writing for underground publications were able to portray the unofficial face of the emerging university, freely criticizing the actions of the authorities, which they considered detrimental to the idea of a university in Szczecin. Despite the ruthless political struggle at the time, the need for its establishment was generally not contested, while the manner in which it was created by the authorities was greatly disparaged. By subjecting this image to scrutiny, it may be possible to give a fuller picture of the backdrop to the foundation and beginnings of the University of Szczecin.

Opis:
W publikacji została pokrótce przedstawiona historia ponad 70 lat działalności szczecińskiego Wydziału Elektrycznego wchodzącego w skład Zachodniopomorskiego Uniwersytetu Technologicznego w Szczecinie, a dawniej Politechniki Szczecińskiej.
In this paper a short story of the 70 years of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Szczecin is presented. Starting from 1947 as one of 3 faculties founded at the Engineering School in Szczecin, it became, as a result of the school transformation in 1955, one of six Faculties of Technical University of Szczecin. Since 2009, after merging with Agricultural University, our Faculty has become one of 10 faculties of West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. At present, we teach students in three fields of study: Electrical Engineering, Automatic Control and Robotics as well as the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) with the 1st (engineering) and the 2nd (master) degrees for all three fields of study. Quality of education has been confirmed by the institutional evaluation of the Polish Accreditation Committee which has distinguished two categories: development strategy as well as material and human resources. Close relationships with industrial partners allow flexible adaptation of our study programs to the needs of industry and dynamic progress of technology. One of the methods used to achieve this goal is the Industry-Program Council of the Faculty founded in 2009 as one of the first such structures in our region. We have educated about 9.000 graduates so far, employed by various companies and public administration, not only in our region. Currently the Faculty employs about 80 persons of academic staff, including 10 professors, 17 associate professors and 3 assistant professors with habilitation degree and has nearly 900 students. High level of scientific research has been confirmed by the Committee for the Evaluation of Scientific Units awarding the "A" category for the Faculty in 2013. Our Faculty had the full academic rights in two scientific disciplines, with doctoral studies as well, being authorized to confer PhD and habilitation (DSc) degrees in Electrical Engineering as well as in Automatic Control and Robotics. Currently these rights are transferred to the university level in the new discipline: automation, electronics and electrical engineering. In 2017 we were celebrating the 70th Anniversary of our Faculty. Apart from the main celebrations on May 20th together with a picnic and alumni meeting, there were some accompanying events organized as well, such as conferences and special scientific sessions.

Opis:
In December 1939 the Deputy Führer Rudolf Hess performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the Oder-Danube Canal, with Austria, Poland and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia already under German control,. Besides connecting the Oder and the Danube, resulting in a nonstop waterway from the Baltic Sea to the Black Sea, spatial planning authorities, he saw the canal as a fundamental addition for the ‘second Ruhr valley in the East’ (Upper Silesia). The outcome of this connection would have been a widely expanded trade between northern and southern Europe. The trade might become then faster and cheaper, a wide array of strategic materials like coal, ore, petroleum and petrol would have been accessible for industry and armed forces. Due to the war progress the work on the canal had to be discontinued in 1940. One of the profiteers of the canal should have been the seaport in Szczecin, located at the intersection of the Oder and the Baltic Sea. Therefore a think tank called the ‘Oder-Donau-Institut’ has been found to deliver scientific arguments reinstating the work on the canal under the lead management of the economic chamber of Pomerania (Szczecin) in close contact with the University of Greifswald. The director of the institute was Peter-Heinz Seraphim, professor for political economy at the University of Greifswald. Under his leadership, the well-financed institute started to work not only for the economic interests of the economic chamber but also for the SS-Reichssicherheitshauptamt.
