Opis:
The article is devoted to the temporal pattern of antonymic attraction in Ukrainian journalism at the beginning of the 21st century. It was found that synonymic, paronymic and antonymic attractions are kinds of lexical attraction. The mechanism of antonymic attraction is based on the fact that there is attraction among linguistic units, based on their semantic similarity. The temporal pattern is considered. It appears in the transformation from linear and cyclical time. Paradigmatic and syntagmatic types of the functioning of antonymic attraction were analyzed. Special attention was paid to the semantics and functions of antonymic attractants in Ukrainian newspapers. In the conclusion, the function of the temporal pattern of antonymic attraction in journalistic style is discussed. It is an important indication of the Ukrainian journalistic style.

Opis:
The purpose of this paper is to define, through content and frame analysis, the peculiarities in the representation of Ukrainian internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Ukraine’s local media and to compare this case with previous findings about the general peculiarities of perceptions of IDPs in the mass media. Two Ukrainian news sites were studied (2014–2018), giving a total 328 news items. My study revealed that the mass media do not differentiate between the terms ‘refugee’ and IDP and describe these latter as passive people (174 mentions as opposed to 77 mentions for active people). However, in the Ukrainian case, IDPs were in the top three of the most popular sources at the beginning of the resettlement (2014–2015). Later, the coverage became an episodic one, with publications about the topic typically having only one source – officials. The mass media preferred such frames as: ‘generalisation’, ‘victim’ and ‘help-receiver’. The ‘threat’ frame was less often used; however, some aggressive and manipulative phrases were disseminated. A ‘criminal’ frame was not at all popular. Thus, the local press may be an important forum for IDPs; Ukrainian journalists were interested in their stories although the coverage needs some improvement (a more ‘active’ angle, clear reference to IDPs as IDPs and not refugees and stories of socialisation etc.).

Opis:
The aim of this article is to analyse the function of titles of Dmytro Dontsov’s works and to prove the validity of the hypothesis of their “slogan” nature. Dontsov (1883–1973) consciously used a number of linguistic devices for persuasive purposes. The polemical nature of his political writings was also reflected in the titles he gave to his texts. In Dontsov’s works, one can distinguish a number of lexically, semantically, phraseologically, or metaphorically marked titles, which allowed us to hypothesise that many of the examined titles play a role similar to that of a political slogan. The analysed titles contain elements that make it easier for the recipient to assimilate their condensed message. We notice the conciseness of the message and the deliberate use of a number of linguistic, eristic and stylistic means. This leads to the conclusion that such a construction of the title serves, similarly to advertising or political slogans, to mobilise and motivate the recipient-reader.

Opis:
Scandal is an action, or an event considered immoral or legally non-applicable causing widespread public outrage. Scandal is covered by media being widely discussed in society. There are areas easily accessible as for the content of a scandal, those are primarily sexual, financial, and relating to the sphere of power. Scandal is present in democratic system and plays a crucial role in it. It can create or destroy political image, help to keep a good name, reputation which politicians have among voters, and which constitutes a legitimacy to exercise power. In the context of political scandal, there is an important aspect of it – Investigative journalism. Scandal plays a very important role on the political scene. There are methods in political marketing used to extinguish political scandals: from ignoring it to information warfare. A well-chosen way to extinguish a scandal by political advisers and the candidate’s team is vital. The political image of presidential candidates and public figures in general depends on it. The latest presidential election in Ukraine held on March 31, 2019 was unprecedented, mainly due to the way the election campaign was conducted and because of its results. Comedian, film producer Volodymyr Zelensky became the 6th Ukrainian President amassing the historically highest voters support – 73,22%. For the first time in Ukraine, in the age of the Internet and advanced communication technologies, the election campaign of Volodymyr Zelensky took advantage of social media possibilities, provoking a sharp discussion in society and involving both opponents and supporters of Petro Poroshenko into it, changing Ukraine's current political course. The 2019 elections in Ukraine are characterized by a large number of political scandals. Those evoked emotions in the society; additionally, they influenced election results and were tools of political manipulation. Effectively, series of journalistic investigations influenced presidential candidate rankings.
