Opis:
According to the latest data from the International Energy Agency, global LNG trade increased by almost 6% year-on-year between January and August 2022.  It was dominated by rising demand for the commodity in the European Union. This was driven by sharp cuts in linear gas supplies from Russia, which are linked to the EU's stance of abandoning Russian supplies due to Russia's war with Ukraine, and the subsequent imposition of sanctions by the European Union on Russia. In January-August 2022 alone, LNG imports into the EU increased by as much as 65% (43 bcm) compared to the same period in 2021. Such a significant increase in the supply of LNG to European countries was also made possible by a decline in demand for LNG in the Asia-Pacific region, due to the mild winter, high price levels, and disruptions related to Covid-19 and the aftermath of lockdowns in China. The cut-off of gas supplies from Russia has shown that the LNG market in the EU can play an important role in both the region's energy security and energy transition. In fact, the European Commission treats gas as a blue fuel, much less carbon-intensive than other conventional energy sources such as coal or oil. An additional advantage of LNG is the possibility to transport this fuel from various locations, rapid change of supply directions, and the more extensive possibilities for its storage. For an EU struggling for a stable supply of raw material, pursuing the Green Deal and carrying out an energy transition, this is an option that could become a strategic element in the long term. The research objective of this article is to investigate and analyze how the share of LNG in the EU's energy mix has changed and in what direction it is affecting EU energy security after Russia's aggression in Ukraine.

Opis:
The Russian invasion has profoundly changed major power relations in which Paris was actively involved to the benefit of the latter, mostly at three levels. The first level, probably the most significant in Macron’s mind, is the European one. Not only did the economic and energy-related repercussions of the conflict put down the eternal German rival, shaken internally due to its historical ties with Moscow and not even sparing the European ‘Mutti,’ but Macron’s France also had the incredible timing of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU to assert a certain French advantage in Europe, and over Germany. The EU seems no longer governed by a duumvirate; the French presidency has unprecedentedly reinforced the French leadership in Brussels, despite various visions of the war between Western and Eastern Europe. Better yet, Macron has finally been able to seize the opportunity and advocate for his dearest project of a ‘European Defence.’ Strategic areas for French-privileged diplomatic spheres remain at the second level. International consequences of the war have transformed the French project. On the one hand, it has been quite disappointing that few have correlated the end of the Barkhane operation in Sahel with the ongoing conflict in Caucasia. On the other hand, it is certainly impossible not to notice the renewed French diplomatic efforts with the Gulf States, clearly shifting in a direction different from the one prior to the war and in favour of a closer rapprochement with country leaders who are not properly aligned with the belligerents in the Ukraine war. Finally, the Ukrainian war has enabled Paris to revive its relations with Washington, not to mention an attempt to stand at the same power level.

This article explores the discursive patterns of communicative events during the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022. Studied through an ethnographic discourse analysis lens (e.g., Hymes 1972b, Saville-Troike [1982] 2003), Polish front-page news articles are shown to be artefact-filled language environment anchored in culture (Duranti [1997] 1999, Hoijer 1953) that can be studied by means of communicational grammar (Chruszczewski 2002) consisting of well-entrenched conceptualisations in the form of keywords and collocations as concomitants of cultural scripts (Goddard and Wierzbicka 2014, Baker 2006, Wierzbicka 1997). It agues that legitimation of patterned representations is based on a three-fold conceptual typology: (1) the axiological (valuational) dimension (Romanyshyn 2020, Pomeroy 2004, Krzeszowski 1997), (2) the metaphorical account of spatial/territorial reference (proximization) (Cap 2013), (3) us vs. them dichotomy (Van Dijk 1992a). It demonstrates how Polish press manufactures and discursively creates ideological attachments which underlie Poland’s cultural legacy.

Opis:
The paper analyses the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian confl ict from the point of view of the struggle for remembrance and identity between two post-Soviet states. Will the war of the brotherly nations wreck Russia’s long-term policy towards Ukraine? Will the confl ict ruin Russia’s plans of post-Soviet space reintegration whose pivot is set on Ukraine? Will the war stimulate Ukraine to deal with the issue of its identity, post-Soviet legacy and collective memory? Ukrainian crisis is also a challenge for the transformation of Ukraine’s political system. The relations between Ukraine and Russia are extremely complex as they are built on a shared history, religion, language and culture and they should not be gauged with Western standards. Evaluating the current situation from a broader perspective, the fact that Ukraine plays a signifi cant role in Russia’s foreign policy needs to be emphasised. Ukraine is considered as the key post-Soviet state, a significant ‘near abroad’ country whose position, potential and geopolitical location are vital for the balance of power in both Eastern Europe and Europe in general.

This article explores the issue of magical thinking and occult practices in the context of war. Especially in the wars of the 20th century and the current war in Ukraine, there are many examples of how magic is being used and referred to in war propaganda. The Russian accusations of Satanism and occult involvement in the 2022 phase of the war are striking examples of such phenomena. The article presents a theoretical approach to magic in social sciences, with a focus on social anthropology. However, a historical context is also revealed in which modern magical practices during times of war gain more significance and are placed within a broader social and political framework. This allows for drawing conclusions in the comparison between Russia’s current obsession with the occult and Nazi occultism in the first half of the 20th century.

The present article is concerned with the Russian narrative of the Ukraine war in Arabic versions of Sputnik and Russia Today Arabic (RT Arabic). The tragic war in Ukraine has affected different media sources in the world, including Russian and pro-Russian media. However, Sputnik and RT Arabic’s media reports combine the Ukraine conflict with Arabic context addressed to different audiences in the Arab world. This study also argues that the Russian narrative relies on propaganda devices such as ad hominem, card stacking and agenda setting, as well as testimonial and glittering generalities. These techniques affect the audience and enable to express Kremlin’s political objectives on the Ukraine war and foreign policy. Moreover, the research demonstrates that the media coverage released by RT Arabic and Sputnik aims at creation of two opposite images, which blame the West and endorse Russian policy.

Opis:
The objective of the present paper is to define the determinants and instruments associated with the information (hybrid) war between Russia and Ukraine. The paper focuses on measures taken by Russia, between 2013 and 2015, in relation to Ukraine. The paper does not aspire to discuss the issue comprehensively, but constitutes an attempt at outlining the problem, indicating determinants and characteristics of the information war (information war as an element of hybrid warfare). The consolidated Russian information space is subordinated to the interests of authorities and draws heavily from the tools characteristic for propaganda, frequently relying upon the Soviet model. In addition, this is done with the view of re-establishing the “Russian World” (Русский мир), which would be wholly subject to Russia’s political interests. Moreover, Russian propaganda goes hand in hand with military actions – a conventional conflict in South-Eastern Ukraine.

The article deals with distinctive statements released by certain Arab states, including responses of political leaders or parties operating in the MENA region. These statements differ from neutral positions that dominated in the Arab world. The research argues that the narrative of the statements reflect emotional and explicit reactions to the ongoing situation in Ukraine from local perspectives, as in the case of Lebanon or Syria. However, the study also argues that claims declared by opposition leaders and political factions in Lebanon, Libya or Sudan contradict the official statements released by authorities of these countries. In addition, the analysis is confronted with inexplicit claims of the Gulf countries which demonstrate differences in the narrative of the Ukraine war. Moreover, the article reflects various contexts and complex social, political and economic conditions that affect the statements. However, the research also demonstrates the importance of stylistic features applied in the statements. Thus, particular words and phrases in Arabic reinforce the messages and express certain stands of local authorities and political leaders towards the Ukraine war and geopolitical tensions.
Poszczególne słowa i wyrażenia w języku arabskim wzmacniają przekaz i wyrażają określone stanowisko przywódców politycznych wobec wojny w Ukrainie.

Russia’s armed conflict with Ukraine, ongoing since 2014, has created conditions for Russia to revise the balance of power in Eastern Europe, and even the international order established after the Cold War. The aim of this article is firstly to show Ukraine, in a highly synthetic way, as a state at a crossroads but simultaneously a key state in terms of Russia’s interests in the post-Soviet area, then the motives for Russia’s redrawing the post-Cold War international order, taking into account the location and role of Ukraine. The article merely indicates the problem of research, and does not claim the right to comprehensively cover the issue in question.

The Russian Invasion of Ukraine (2022) had a catastrophic impact on Lebanon which was already suffering from grave economic problems. Since day one, Lebanon has supported Ukraine and asked for the withdrawal of the Russian forces. The war has left negative impacts on Lebanon, raising particular concerns about famine due to a sharp rise in the food and oil prices. However, this war has also presented Lebanon with a pleasant surprise. For the first time in two decades, Lebanon and Israel have agreed to secure a maritime border deal through US-led mediation, which will allow both countries to extract gas from their marine deposits. The deadlocked negotiations were suddenly resumed because of this war and the acute energy crisis in Europe. Lebanese and Israeli gas is expected to replace Russian gas on the European market. This paper will explain the Lebanese foreign policy and its stance regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war as well as to the political and economic impacts of the war on Lebanon.

The war that Russia has been waging against Ukraine since 2022 is brutal and described as full-scale, i.e. with the use of all forces and means. In the era of dynamically developing media, information has also become a weapon that is consciously used in this conflict. When reviewing the most important information that was the focus of interest of a large part of the media in Poland during the first half of the year after the Russian attack on Ukraine, it can be stated that the media in Poland extensively inform about the war in Ukraine, but they do not limit themselves to reporting the conflict, they also refer to to disinformation and propaganda, and even touch on the sphere of resentment that is still alive between different countries. The summary of information makes it clear how important the media are in the modern world and that care for their development and securing the media infrastructure is a strategic task of the state.

Against the backdrop of Russian aggression against Ukraine and its global consequences, the paper analyses the evolution of relations between Ukraine and the European Union throughout 2014-2022 and the prospects for Ukraine's European integration. It highlights the peculiarities of the formation of Ukraine's European policy as a strategic direction of foreign policy and a factor of its decisive civilizational choice. The main stages and problems in the implementation of Ukraine's European choice are analysed. The focus is on investigating key events and phenomena in the relationship between Ukraine and the European Union at a fundamentally new stage, from the signing of the Association Agreement in 2014 to granting Ukraine the status of a candidate for EU membership in 2022. It analyses the attitudes of individual European Union member states towards Ukraine's European integration prospects, the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the positive change in the EU and its member states' attitude towards Ukraine and its European aspirations, and concrete measures and actions by the European Union aimed at providing moral and political support as well as economic, financial, humanitarian and military assistance to Ukraine in its heroic resistance to Russian aggression. It is emphasised that Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 not only united Europe and improved the perception of the EU in member states' societies, where the positive image of the European Union reached its highest level in decades, but also maximised Ukrainian support for European integration, which has become the key to Ukraine's resilience in the fight against Russian occupiers

As a result of the war – Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022 – a huge number of refugees began to flee to the countries bordering with Ukraine in the west – including mainly to Poland. This regarded women, children and the elderly, because due to the ordered mobilization of men aged 18–60–years old, they could not, with some exceptions, leave Ukraine. This is a completely new situation – no such large European nation has been forced to migrate so violently since World War II. The aim of the article is to present and analyze the migration of Ukrainian citizens to Poland caused by the Russian invasion – the course of this migration and the places where refugees stayed on the territory of Poland. Since Russia’s activities had increased anxiety already before the invasion began, the analysis also covers the earlier period. Therefore, migration has been presented in detail since 1 January 2022, while 31 July 2022 has been adopted as the end date of the analyzed data.
