Opis:
The wind energy conversion systems (WECS) suffer from an intermittent nature of source (wind) and the resulting disparity between power generation and electricity demand. Thus, WECS are required to be operated at maximum power point (MPP). This research paper addresses a sophisticated MPP tracking (MPPT) strategy to ensure optimum (maximum) power out of the WECS despite environmental (wind) variations. This study considers a WECS (fixed pitch, 3KW, variable speed) coupled with a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) and proposes three sliding mode control (SMC) based MPPT schemes, a conventional first order SMC (FOSMC), an integral back-stepping-based SMC (IBSMC) and a super-twisting reachability-based SMC, for maximizing the power output. However, the efficacy of MPPT/control schemes rely on availability of system parameters especially, uncertain/nonlinear dynamics and aerodynamic terms, which are not commonly accessible in practice. As a remedy, an off-line artificial function-fitting neural network (ANN) based on Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is employed to enhance the performance and robustness of MPPT/control scheme by effectively imitating the uncertain/nonlinear drift terms in the control input pathways. Furthermore, the speed and missing derivative of a generator shaft are determined using a high-gain observer (HGO). Finally, a comparison is made among the stated strategies subjected to stochastic and deterministic wind speed profiles. Extensive MATLAB/Simulink simulations assess the effectiveness of the suggested approaches.

Opis:
This paper presents the control design framework for the hybrid synchronization (HS) and parameter identification of the 3-Cell Cellular Neural Network. The cellular neural network (CNN) of this kind has increasing practical importance but due to its strong chaotic behavior and the presence of uncertain parameters make it difficult to design a smooth control framework. Sliding mode control (SMC) is very helpful for this kind of environment where the systems are nonlinear and have uncertain parameters and bounded disturbances. However, conventional SMC offers a dangerous chattering phenomenon, which is not acceptable in this scenario. To get chattering-free control, smooth higher-order SMC formulated on the smooth super twisting algorithm (SSTA) is proposed in this article. The stability of the sliding surface is ensured by the Lyapunov stability theory. The convergence of the error system to zero yields hybrid synchronization and the unknown parameters are computed adaptively. Finally, the results of the proposed control technique are compared with the adaptive integral sliding mode control (AISMC). Numerical simulation results validate the performance of the proposed algorithm.

Opis:
This paper proposes two high-order sliding mode algorithms to achieve highperformance control of induction motor drive. In the first approach, the super-twisting algorithm (STA) is used to reduce the chattering effect and to improve control accuracy. The second approach combines the super-twisting algorithm with a quasi-barrier function technique. While the super-twisting algorithm (STA) aims at the chattering reduction, the Barrier super-twisting algorithm (BSTA) aims to eliminate this phenomenon by providing continuous output control signals. The BSTA is designed to prevent the STA gain from being over-estimated by making these gains to decrease and increase according to system’s uncertainties. Stability and finite-time convergence are guaranteed using Lyapunov’s theory. In addition, the two controlled variables, rotor speed, and rotor flux modulus are estimated based on the second-order sliding mode (SOSM) observer. Finally, simulations are carried out to compare the performance and robustness of two control algorithms without adding the equivalent control. Tests are achieved under external load torque, varying reference speed, and parameter variations.

This paper presents a fault-tolerant control scheme for a 2 DOF helicopter. The 2 DOF helicopter is a higher-order multi-input multi-output system featuring non-linearity, cross-coupling, and unstable behaviour. The impact of sensor, actuator, and component faults on such highly complex systems is enormous. This work employs sliding mode control, which is based on reaching and super-twisting laws, to handle the problem of fault control. Simulation tests are carried out to show the effectiveness of the algorithms. Various performance metrics are analyzed and the results show SMC based on super-twisting law provides better control with less chattering. The stability of the closed-loop system is mathematically assured, in the presence of faults, which is a key contribution of this research.

Opis:
Purpose: of this paper is to analyze the possibility of increasing the efficiency of wellbore jet pumps by twisting the injected flow. The absence of moving parts, easy transfer of energy, the ability to operate a wide range of performance and low cost have resulted in the use of ejection systems in many oil and gas deposits. The main disadvantage of borehole ejection systems is the insufficient value of the jet pump efficiency. The energy efficiency of downhole jet pumps can be improved by swirling the mixed flows. Design/methodology/approach: To characterize the effect of circulating flows was used an additional factor in the form of the values of the inclination angle of guiding elements that swirl the flow or the rotation frequency of jet pump elements. In the process of determining the values characterizing the operating process of ejection systems, the flow rates of the working and injected flow and the pressure values in front of the nozzle, the receiving chamber and the chamber at the outlet from the diffuser of the jet pump are subject to direct measurement. Swirling of the injected flow was carried out by placing a sleeve with guiding elements, manufactured using 3D printing technology, in the receiving chamber of the jet pump. Findings: The analysis revealed that in the design of downhole jet units, there are used guiding elements, mainly the screw, blade and tangential type, to swirl the flow. A highlighted list of factors that have a direct effect on the flows mixing process. During experimental studies of swirling injected flow type jet pump characteristics, there is obtained an increase in pressure and energy parameters. Research limitations/implications: The task of further research is to determine the characteristics of a downhole swirling injected flow type jet pump for conditions of combined swirling of the working and injected flows. Practical implications: The obtained results make it possible to take into account the presence of guiding elements in the flow path of the jet pump for swirling the flow. Originality/value: It is established that the relationship between the design and technological parameters of the local swirling of the mixed medium is determined by the ratio of rotating and axial components of the flow velocity in the flow path of the jet pump.

We know that oxygen therapy plays one of the important role for treating hypoxemia and it is widely used across a whole range of specialties and it involves administration of oxygen at concentrations greater than that in ambient air. We are reporting the first case of twisting of reservoir bag on using non-rebreathing face mask for providing supplemental oxygen in awake prone position in a 60 year old male tested COVID-19 positive. To prevent this twisting we recommend if a manufacturer do slight modification in making of these non-breathing face mask by adding a 1-2 cm L- shaped Plastic connector to the neck end of the oxygen reservoir bag. The sudden deflation of these reservoir bag not only increase the dead space, decrease alveolar ventilation but substantially compromised the gas exchange. So any twisting of these non-rebreathing face mask should be avoided. This twisting may compromise the patient condition due to rapid increase in PaCO2 and detrimental in patients with restrictive airway disease. On keeping the patient in prone position the twisting of the reservoir bag frequently occurs and this simple and useful modification may be beneficial for supplementation of oxygen therapy to COVID-19 patients requiring high fractional inspired oxygen concentration.

Opis:
The paper proposes a discrete-time sliding mode controller for single input linear dynamical systems, under requirements of the fast response without overshoot and strong robustness to matched disturbances. The system input saturation is imposed during the design due to inevitable limitations of most actuators. The system disturbances are compensated by employing nonlinear estimation by integrating the signum of the sliding variable. Hence, the proposed control structure may be regarded as a super-twisting-like algorithm. The designed system stability is analyzed as well as the sliding manifold convergence conditions are derived using a discrete-time model of the system in the δ-domain. The results obtained theoretically have been verified by computer simulations.

This paper presents a new robust Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm for trajectory tracking of an Autonomous Surface Vehicle (ASV) in presence of the time-varying external disturbances including winds, waves and ocean currents as well as dynamical uncertainties. For fulfilling the robustness property, a sliding mode control-based procedure for designing of MPC and a super-twisting term are adopted. The MPC algorithm has been known as an effective approach for the implementation simplicity and its fast dynamic response. The proposed hybrid controller has been implemented in MATLAB / Simulink environment. The results for the combined Model Predictive Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Control (MP-STSMC) algorithm have shown that it significantly outperforms conventional MPC algorithm in terms of the transient response, robustness and steady state response and presents an effective chattering attenuation in comparison with the Super-Twisting Sliding Mode Control (STSMC) algorithm.

Opis:
Target manoeuvre is one of the key factors affecting guidance accuracy. To intercept highly maneuverable targets, a second-order sliding-mode guidance law, which is based on the super-twisting algorithm, is designed without depending on any information about the target motion. In the designed guidance system, the target estimator plays an essential role. Besides the existing higher-order sliding-mode observer (HOSMO), a first-order linear observer (FOLO) is also proposed to estimate the target manoeuvre, and this is the major contribution of this paper. The closed-loop guidance system can be guaranteed to be uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) in the presence of the FOLO. The comparative simulations are carried out to investigate the overall performance resulting from these two categories of observers. The results show that the guidance law with the proposed linear observer can achieve better comprehensive criteria for the amplitude of normalised acceleration and elevator deflection requirements. The reasons for the different levels of performance of these two observer-based methods are thoroughly investigated.

Compared with conventional ring spinning, compact spinning with a suction groove can reduce hairiness and improve yarn quality, and it has certain advantages to long staple fibre. In this article, we analyse the changing rule of rotational speed and study the change curve of the frictional coefficient in the gathering zone. The results show that the fibre bundles’ rotational speed at each point along the surrounding arc gradually decreases from the maximum to zero in the gathering area, but the rotating speed of the fibre bundles is constant in the suction hole. The angle between the parallel component speed and that at each point is near to a linear change in the no suction hole, with there being no change in the suction hole. The parallel component of the frictional coefficient for each point is a variable in the no suction hole, being constant in the suction hole.
