Opis:
The subject matter of the article is a short reflection on the concept of truth in criminal proceedings. The author raises the question about the manner of understanding the truth in a criminal trial, as well as about the relation of truth to proof and probability - are such concepts compatible, mutually exclusive or differentiated in terms of categories? As a result of such contemplation, the author decided that the text of Article 2 § 2 of the Code of Crimi¬nal Procedure concerning material truth - in view of the today’s criminal law scholars and commentators - is similar to the concept of ontological truth, i.e. the understanding of truth in a way that does not refer to the state of affairs only (ontic truth), but also to the statements and judgements made with respect thereto. Such an understanding of truth also allows one to acknowledge the fact that the truth and belief that a certain event (that needs to be proven or made plausible) occurred are two different epistemic categories.

Concepts of material and formal truth have a long and well-grounded tradition in the doctrine of law. It seems, however, that they need some clarification and conceptualisation in purely philosophical and logical terms. In this paper, we propose such a theoretical analysis. These considerations are followed by a review of the key aspects of the current Polish legislation, which is written from the point of view of the conclusions reached through the first level of analysis.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to consider the question about the reasons of the indefinability of truth. We note at the start that a formula with one free variable can function as a truth predicate for a given set of sentences in two different (although related) senses: relative to a model and relative to a theory. By methods due to Alfred Tarski it can be shown that some sets of sentences are too large to admit a truth predicate (in any of the above senses); the limit case being the set of all sentences. The key question considered by us is: what does "too large" mean, i.e. which exactly sets of sentences don't have a truth predicate. We give a partial answer to this question: a set of sentences K has a truth predicate in an axiomatizable, consistent theory T iff for some natural number n, all the sentences belonging to K are equivalent (in T) to Sn sentences. Here the notion of a "too large" set receives a clear and definite sense. However, the case of a model-theoretic truth predicate seems to be more complicated: this second problem we leave as open, indicating only some possible directions of future research.

The contemporary truth reconstructed in a trial reflects differences between the Aristotelian truth in terms of its essence and criterion (material truth – veritas est adaequatio rei et intellectus – ad Aristotle, The Metaphysics IV.7.[1011b 26-27])- and its practical realisation (objective truth – in medio stat veritas – ad Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics II.7.[1108a 19–20]). In a non-adversarial processes – such as the Polish criminal trial - as opposed to the Anglo-Saxon one - the Polish administrative procedure (an administrative court has only a controlling function, not a reformative one and does not ascertain facts on its own) or separate proceedings in the Polish civil procedure – the court is expressis verbis obliged to reconstruct the objective truth (i.e. the truth which can be ascertained by a man meeting the diligentia boni patris familias standard) and not the material truth. Nonetheless, if the judicial truth understood in this way (the truth ascertained by the court; if the court does not demonstrate an evidential initiative, then it will not ascertain the truth, but it will merely assess the reliability of the evidence submitted as in the Anglo-American criminal trial) will differ from the material truth, it can act as a statutory premise to resume the proceedings. That is, generally speaking, the main difference between the inquisitorial and the adversarial models.

Considering the issue of power in Foucault will always lead to comments on the issue of knowledge and vice versa. What I suggest in this paper, however, is to look into both topics presented in the work by Foucault separately, at least to a certain extent. I believe that the evolution of these two threads in his works allows us to evaluate their suitability differently as far as their relevance to contemporary culture is concerned. Foucault’s approach to the issue of power and its evolution towards so-called governmentality is evidence of how accurately he sensed the direction of changes to the Zeitgeist of Western civilizations, a fact which cannot be said about the evolution of Foucault’s approach to the issue of knowledge, leaning towards the question of truth and truth-telling. The aim of this paper is to substantiate the outlined and differentiated evaluation of Foucault’s oeuvre while, at the same time, highlighting the predominant features of contemporary culture. Special attention will be paid to the role of sociology in governmentality.

Opis:
The main statement of the paper is that the post-truth is expanding at an unprecedented rate, continuously forcing itself into new areas of public life and permeating millions of minds. This phenomenon has not so far been satisfactorily explained by researchers of global-range social phenomena. The paper presents various definitions of post-truth and its interpretations. The argument revolves around what truth means and what it is threatened by, as well as the most important institution that is, by definition, concerned about the truth: the university. The article outlines the functions of the university and contemporary conditions of its functioning, including the threats to the preservation of its mission and axiological foundation: striving towards the truth. The idea of the university, created in Europe at the beginning of the second millennium, has shown to be strong and durable. It has adopted various organisational forms, depending on the period and region. The secret of the universities’ persistence and meaning cannot be considered apart from the history of the European civilisation. However, the phenomenon of post-truth expansion is the most serious threat to this institution. The expansion of post-truth also leads to changes in the quality of the public life, bringing about its degeneration, with considerable contributions of the numerous pathologies of the Internet, distribution of lies and surprisingly quickly growing acceptance of this phenomenon.

Coherent thoughts about the truth seem to be more difficult than about any other abstract concepts. According to some fundamental presuppositions, the truth should be one and in a sense unchangeable. On the other hand, even a simple observation suggests something opposite – the truth seems to be variable and relative and that is why given in some different, alternative forms. The paper deals with all the above mentioned problems and other relative ones concerning the truth. The entire discussion coincides with an ancient dictum being the title of the article

Opis:
Man is a relational being. His development, both in the personal and social aspects, assumes a relation to truth. In such communal building the classical concept of truth as the congruence of intellect and the perceived reality is not enough. It is also necessary to refer to the world of persons (subjects of perception), as a person is the place of learning and communicating the truth, and its witness, for only on personal level can truth give rise to obligation. For it to happen, however, there must be an attitude of trust created between persons. The truth perceived by a subject is a partial one. Thus communicating it must assume its limited and incomplete nature. What is more, a subject communicates by means of words and images. And they acquire certain autonomy, eluding the subject. Therefore there is a need of trust which assumes that the subject communicates only a part of the truth, but it is accompanied by a willingness to get to know the whole truth. Truth requires a particular communicational horizon, which is love. Only by love and a willingness to be open to the full truth the learning subjects can get closer to it. The unity of seeking must be based on full trust in a person, and in such a sense trust is a condition of getting to know the Truth which is a Person.

Each lawful audit centers on discovering truth. Often times, revealing facts is far from ideal and entails some kind of truth creation, called by the author “the audit truth”. The audit statements of facts create their own normative and semantic reality. The audit truth is always to some degree subjective, uncertain, approximated and simplified. Nonetheless, it does not make it false. Imperfectness of reality’s description is hard to avoid. As such it has to be accepted only if it meets certain standards of discovery and description. The article, by revealing the nature of the audit truth, fills the gap in the literature that so far has been focused on the principle of the material truth as an ideal goal for auditors. The author argues that pursuing truth in audit deserves advanced and systematic studies by audit philosophy.

W pracy przedstawiono rozważania dotyczące poszczególnych instytucji prawnych, które z jednej strony umożliwiają dotarcie do prawdy w trakcie postępowania karnego, z drugiej zaś – ograniczają taką możliwość.
This article presents considerations of the various legal institutions that make reaching the truth possible, on the other hand, those that reduce such possibility. This text also shows the influence of such institutions on cognitive possibilities of procedural bodies, as well as the advisability of the truth’s guarantees and limitations in criminal proceedings. After all, the truth is one of the values that are realized by the Polish system of criminal procedural law, and therefore the procedural law must create the possibility of reaching the truth. On the other hand, however, the truth may come into conflict with other values that are expressed by the Polish legal order, so that many times the truth must be limited or excluded for the sake of another value. The considerations are devoted to the relationship between the truth and other principles of the criminal process, institutions of the evidence law, the appellate process and procedural guarantees. This article outlines also the possible extra-legal threats for possibility of reaching the truth.

Truth has always been a controversial subject in Aristotelian scholarship. In most cases, including some well-known passages in the Categories, De Interpretatione and Metaphysics, Aristotle uses the predicate ‘true’ for assertions, although exceptions are many and impossible to ignore. One of the most complicated cases is the concept of practical truth in the sixth book of Nicomachean Ethics: its entanglement with action and desire raises doubts about the possibility of its inclusion to the propositional model of truth. Nevertheless, in one of the most extensive studies on the subject, C. Olfert has tried to show that this is not only possible but also necessary. In this paper, we explain why trying to fit practical truth into the propositional model comes with insurmountable problems. In order to overcome these problems, we focus on multiple aspects of practical syllogism and correlate them with Aristotle’s account of desire, happiness and the good. Identifying the role of such concepts in the specific steps of practical reasoning, we reach the conclusion that practical truth is best explained as the culmination of a well-executed practical syllogism taken as a whole, which ultimately explains why this type of syllogism demands a different approach and a different kind of truth than the theoretical one.

Theatre practitioners’ statements relating to the notion of truth lead to the category of post-truth. Stage of discursive truth and post-truth article discusses theatre practice of engaging feelings, impressions and emotions to take precedence over interpretations, assessments and descriptions of facts. The article critically approaches using of media discourses in theatre in order to produce the imitation of truth. The author refers to Agnieszka Jakimiak’s and Weronika Szczawińska’s play Wojny, których nie przeżyłam [Wars I have not experienced] and other selected recent Polish plays and performances. The thesis connects the media-shaped image of Polish theatre art institution seen as an area of provocation with an experience of a viewer and an ontological status of an actor. This allows drawing a conclusion that theatre uses the category of truth instrumentally, as one of its repertoire’s tools to provoke emotional reactions in the audience. Theatre performances allow one to explore the world, but also to co-create it. The theatre is a performative and cognitive sieve provoking and shaping experience that affects reality.

Truth occupies an important place in human life, and man himself is called to discover its fullness. Questions about the truth and its nature already appeared in antiquity and were on minds of the most eminent philosophers and later they wandered with the whole consequence through the ages towards modernity. The question of truth is also present in the teaching of the Catholic Church. The current debate in reference to the concept of truth in its objective meaning can be formulated differently. In a diverse and multifaceted structure, a person needs to encounter his identity and pass through conceptual degradation in order to find clear signs which will show him the right direction of acting and make him able to accept reality in its deepest dimension. In this sense, truth appears as a condition sine qua non for the people who want to live their lives according to the requirements of the Gospel. The following article attempts to approximate the reality of truth in its moral perspective based on the life and works of an outstanding theologian, John Henry Newman. He is a character who should be seen as one of the greatest thinkers of the 19th century, an exceptional writer and a great scholar. The life of this great man was filled with the love of truth, which many researchers understand in the category of passion, emphasizing a special kind of disposition directed towards the truth. Whoever reaches for his academic works and looks at his intellectual output recognizes him as an ardent disciple of truth who loved truth above all else. The fascinating history of the faith and courage of the English convert has become a determinant of all decisions he makes, and he himself is still an inspiration for everybody who wants to form their lives based on the foundation of the Truth.

Opis:
Michel Foucault defined parrhesia as “the free courage by which one binds oneself in the act of telling the truth.” Could telling objective untruth also be a parrhesiastic act, insofar as it requires courage and initiates subjectivation? Climate deniers, anti-vaccinationists and other groups that delegitimize the authority of science present themselves as courageously standing up against the dominant discourse, as rebellious subjects who speak the inconvenient and unaccepted truths. It is not difficult to prove that their truths are untruths, but it remains problematic to distinguish true courage from its simulacra. This article argues that Foucault’s investigations of truth, subjectivity, and power become of great use in the face of today’s confusion. The phenomenon of post-truth cannot be explained simply as the product of postmodern relativism. The will-to-truth, along with the will to constitute oneself as a truth-telling subject, persists, requiring critical analysis more than ever. What may prove politically efficient is to engage in the kind of critique that would account for actual power relations and unmask false courage rather than debunk specific concepts or ideas.

Heidegger claimed that traditional understanding of the truth as correspondence of the proposition with the entity is grounded in more primordial phenomena. He called them “the more fundamental truth”. Heidegger pointed out that the latter also comprise of such phenomena as Entdeckend-sein der Aussage and Erschlossenheit of the human Dasein. However, Heidegger’s attempt to call these phenomena as “the fundamental truths” can be justified only when they possessed so key character as the traditional concept of the truth. The latter understands its content as a basic regulative idea which is binding for all our thinking and talking about anything real. That is why the truth is considered as a necessary condition of possibility of any authentic bond among people. This key character of the truth does not exist in the mentioned-above phenomena. Hence, the attempt to call them “the truth” seems to be unjustified and mistaken.

The purpose of the article was to try to answer the question, what truth and logic is discovered? The answer came by comparing the claims made by Des-cartes and the main representatives of the Lviv-Warsaw School. The author of the article contrasting the views of the French thinker with the views of Polish logicians, with Kazimierz Ajdukiewicz at the head, turns to the proposal of the latter. According to Ajdukiewicz, discovered by law logic, as well as the laws discovered by representatives of empirical sciences, there are some objective relations that take place on the side of reality. Knowing these important and universal properties and laws, man increas-ingly and better understands the world. The conclusion of the article is the the-sis that there is close correspondence between ontology and logic, as expressed by the first principles of the law of being, which are also the first principles of the laws of thought. Responding to the question of the role of logic in the pro-cess of learning the truth, the author confesses to those authors who argue that logic is a science that works on the material provided by the ontology, looking for relationships between objects of the real world.

It used to be that if some message came from an oral source, its weight depended on reliability of the one who had transmitted it and on the one who had heard it. If, on the other hand, something was printed it intrinsically became credible. Democratization of access to print and similar democratization of media, apart from its undoubtedly positive side, brings also a negative novum – it encourages everyone to speak freely. It is impossible to talk about truth in media, or truth in any other sense, and not relate to the fashionable nowadays in the humanities the vanquisher of Marxism – called postmodernism. This very movement in its popular form sows the seeds of fear of all who proclaim the existence of objective truth or, what is worse, absolute truth. They caution that the supporters of this truth will introduce it by force, so we are in danger of facing totalitarianism, fundamentalism and dark dictatorship. It is uncertainty that drives people to violence. Those who have something to hold on to are more unaffected by despair. The fanatics are often recruited from those who are adrift. Less often from those with a questing mind. But in order to seek one needs to believe that truth exists. Even if it were always incomplete and imperfect in the form in which we are able to assimilate it. To the charges that every certainty leads to violence, I reply that most frequently it is the opposite. It is fear and feeling adrift that drive people to the false certainty. Whoever believes that truth exists will easier accept that he will never grasp it. In the very important debate that was conducted some years ago, the fear of fundamentalism was juxtaposed with the fear of nihilism. I see the latter as a greater threat.

Opis:
The reflection of Xavier Zubiri (1898-1983), a Spanish philosopher, on the subject of real truth is an interesting epistemological proposal about the presence and perception of truth in reality and its apprehension by the intellect in the cognitive act. According to Zubiri, truth is not merely the consistency of the intellect with the thing. In the first view of the thing, reality imposes itself on the "intellection" (intelleción) with a certain force. This is done in the process of "ratification", which, however, is not a reduplication of the thing. Rather than that, it is a self-affirmation or self-installation of what is real in the intellect. The truth is not a representation [representación], but it is the authentic presentation of the things as it is. According to the Spanish philosopher, the real truth (la verdad real) has man in its hands, since it embraces the entire cognizing subject with its "energy". This means that "la verdad real" is the first experience of truth by man, independent of intellectual activity; its primary and spontaneous apprehension.

Crime is everywhere. Demystifying the truth about the origin of a criminal activity against humanity may be difficult. The dilemma of truth is that half of the truth is no truth, a bit of truth is no truth and almost whole truth is no truth. Therefore, can truth be ever gotten from a matter whose stakeholders do not know the truth or deliberately conceal the truth? Can truth be ascertained when the truth is that there is no truth established in the matter? Then what can be done to get the truth from a matter that has no genesis of truth surrounding it? Therefore, wherever truth is compromised or not known, justice delivery will be hard to come by and in most cases justice delivery can never be ascertained. However, this does not mean that the truth of a matter can never be known and justice delivery can never be ascertained. This quest is what the truth commission seeks to demystify in every truth finding missions across the world. Game theory will be used to analyse the concept of truth in the process of demystifying the herculean task of justice delivery in governance of a political system. Sections will be created to discuss the quests for truth by the truth commissions across the world, theorising truth and justice using a truth searching model and conclusions will be based on the fact that truth brings justice, justice propels peace, and peace drives development in human endeavours.

For the Tractatus, the primary truth-bearers are facts-in-use, which essentially involve acts, as well as facts functioning as instruments of representation. The Tractarian account, it is further argued, can vindicate three platitudes that constitute the main motivation of Frege’s approach.

Fundamentally, it is expected that dispensation of justice guarantees a fair judgement. However, both terms -‘justice’ and ‘truth’, which are closely related to each other, are ambiguous. What is more, their common meaning strays from the legal one. At the same time, the adoption of the proper concept of truth (procedural or objective) by a legislator leads to the significant consequences in practice which have an impact on drawing conclusions and on settling a civil law dispute. This paper attempts to determine the concept of the principle of the adopted truth in the Polish civil procedure. The author analyses the development of the Code of Civil Procedure and assesses the amendments. The matter of the principle of truth in force is still a moot point among lawyers since the amendment of the Code of Civil Procedure was introduced on March 1, 1996. It was a turning point in reference to the previous accepted concept of the objective truth. Next changes, especially the latest ones, confirm the thesis about applying de lege lata the principle of the objective truth. That conclusion is the central thought of this short essay. The goal of the paper is to discuss the practical and theoretical aspects of the principle of the truth which can be recognized as the most justifiable. The author of the article tries to present advantages and disadvantages of both concepts of truth and also formulate the postulates de lege ferenda. They should provide the grounds for a detailed discussion among legal experts, and particularly among the theorists of law.

In light of modern theory of history, historical truth can be see from angle of the notion of truth proposed by Hilary Putnam and Willard Van Orman Quine. It means that it can be understand as the internal truth: truth dependent on its context. In accordance with main assumption, this fact allows history to try to think about its own rationality in similar way: to define it as internal (contextual) rationality, which accurately mirrors the individual character of historical cognition. Th e article points out theoretical problems potentially connected with above conception of rationality. Question, whether history has ability to analyze the rationality by its own instruments, was underlined as one of the most important.

For centuries, the search for truth has been one of the most important tasks for universities and academia. Truth has been the foundation of these institutions. Knowing the truth is a unique spiritual joy (gaudium veritatis). The role of the university in the modern world is not only to observe the events and comment upon them, but also to search for truth and serve humanity. The service of truth and humanity requires crossing the borders of individual disciplines. The dialogue between science and faith can grow creatively in such a way as to overcome the restrictions imposed and open up to the full potential of the combination. Thus faith by its nature requires that its object be understood with the aid of reason, and reason seeking the full truth opens up to what faith can present. Faith enters into human life and knowledge not in order to abolish reason's autonomy, nor to limit its scope for action. Faith cannot therefore lead to some form of depreciation of reason. These two realities - faith and reason - intertwine and complement each other, while each has its own space in which it becomes real.

The undertaken considerations seek for revealing that in the thought of Plato there are few different approaches to the problem of truth. They start with the epistemological aspect which was inherited by Plato from Parmenides according to which truth is a constitutive element of human cognition and knowledge, an element that is conditioned by precisely determined indicators such as universality, necessity and invariability. The important contribution of Plato in explaining the problem of truth is where he underlines its meaning in the accomplishment of human being. The natural ability for knowing truth is the most crucial expression of humanity that is why more he draws on truth more he exists.

John Paul II in his teaching about Poland and patriotism defines Poland as a “special mother”. It is due to the fact that the Pope places Polish patriotism within the broad perspective of pondering upon human being, his/her dignity and the freedom. Pope’s encyclicals are the starting point of this conceptualization. Here the encyclical Veritatis splendor (the Splendor of Truth) by John Paul II released in 1993 deserves the special attention. Its basic thesis is : a man should base his collective life upon permanent, objective values; upon “the truth”. Modern Europe is the ethical individualism; subjectivism and relativism. It is characterized by the “crisis of the sense”. The Polish culture is expressed by the assumption of the existence of permanent values, which should be the foundation of human community. Europe needs Poland. According to John Paul II Polish patriotism is the “love” towards something that constitutes the essence of its culture, its message. And this means that it is for each of us a “special mother”. However, this message has a universal value.

The main issue related to social rehabilitation is its effectiveness. Is it possible to bridge the gulf that exists between a prisoner in custody and people who enjoy freedom? Are they alike? Or are they so very much different that social rehabilitation is impossible? There is a whole array of questions and answers. Most opinions hold that social rehabilitation is not possible. The author of the article suggests that a positive answer to these questions will only be possible when we reach for the concept of man and discover the truth that inmates and people outside corrective institutions are exactly the same. Thus our elementary task is to discover the truth about the excluded as well as to help the excluded discover the same truth. This discovery is attained through learning, i.e. education.

This contribution to the discussion on truth in music shows two ways of thinking most often chosen by representatives of the contemporary English-speaking world’s analytic philosophy. The first way assumes seeking truth or falsehood in the actual musical work and its structures, while the other is related to truth in experiencing music, and thus to the sincerity, authenticity of a performance (and especially performers’ faithfulness to the score and to themselves). The text concludes with a literary example of the debate on truth in music. For aestheticists, it can be a source of reflection on metacritical issues of music performance, and for critics – encouragement to verify their own interpretative strategies.

In this paper I deal with two key concepts of a modern political theory, i.e. truth and public interest, and examine relationships between them. This subject seems particularly important in the context of the observed crisis of the liberal democracy and the spread of misinformation and fake news. I argue that there is a need to create a public system of protection designed to defend the logical status of those statements which have a value for the society. By using the notion of public interest as a tool for analysis, I demonstrate how such a system might be structured. I suggest employing existing public institutions to construct a system of public protection of the truth, yet supplemented by a coordinating body based on the ombudsman model.

Opis:
The article focuses on the truth of a man attested and expressed by a work. It appeals to the theory which announces this objectivist reference of the work to human reality. At the same time, it makes reservations about these theories, which depend on the sense of the work solely on the intentions and interpretative perspective of the researcher. The truth of man in objective theories acquires the fullest interpretation in personalism of contemporary or classical provenance. The first of these – relational and liberalistic – brings the essence of a person to its communion with others, with „you” and with the community. The second – sees this essence in a permanent and irremovable substitutional foundation. It turns out that only the second personalism, based on the metaphysical truth, can stop today’s „inflation” of man. This inflation manifests itself in its supra-personal (in non-human) approach or in the sub-human (sub-human) approach. The first finds support in the negative (apophatic) and non-personal vision of God, which justifies the metaphysical indefiniteness of man. The second one brings the essence of man to his biological background in philosophy and performative theory, and thus questions his personal condition. The opposition between metaphysical personalism and postmodernism defined here confronts man’s truth and its adulteration. The dilemma of humanities depicted here is a manifestation of a wider and fundamental anthropological conflict that permeates contemporary thought and cultural practice. The stake of this conflict is the survival of man – the preservation of his spiritual status and personal dignity.

The birth of the post-truth era, i.e. the advent of alternative media and internet social networks, has brought along a great deal of demagoguery, nonsense, lies, hoaxes, disinformation (a trendier term being ‘fake news’) and conspiracy theories, with propaganda and manipulation being the key features here. Dissemination of disinformation and its effects on individuals, society and politics are among the most debated topics of our day, although, frankly, it is in fact a very old phenomenon. The advent of digital media has brought, apart from other things, a decline of public trust in traditional (mainstream) media, and conversely a boom in alternative information sources. Meanwhile, it is not entirely clear what the term alternative with respect to mass media should actually mean. Perhaps free media? Independent media? Attempts to define alternative media against the background of mainstream media contain quite a few options to grasp the alternateness. In our contribution we endeavour to find the causes of the strongly negative connotations surrounding the term alternative media. This term is not infrequently linked to an unprecedented rise of media with disinformation and conspiracy agenda. Nevertheless, we point out why it perhaps should be more appropriate to grasp this term in a more neutral way, not only in academia, considering that such sources in many cases provide scope for different interpretation of the dominant ideology in society and information disseminated under its aegis.

The term „Lublin Philosophical School” refers to the mode of philosophizing devised in the 1950’s at the catholic University of lublin. After a brief history, the paper first discusses some methodological features of this mode and the social role of philosophy as a self-awareness of culture. Employing the School’s philosophy, the paper then considers the issue of post-truth and that of the value-ladenness of science. The post-truth approach replaces evidence with emotions, and in consequence, argumentation is replaced with power. This in turn threatens the human person, her rationality and freedom. Admitting that science is value-laden and values are subjective leads to denying the cognitive status of science. Lublin philosophy offers such a concept of value and scientific knowledge which allows one to solve the problem created by the valueladenness of science. Thus, the paper shows that the lublin School’s philosophy can provide answers to contemporary problems and evaluate intellectual developments of culture.

The article discusses the problem of objectivity in humanistic (literary) research methodology. A starting point is Thomas Khun’s question concerning conditions that would initiate a paradigm. The author of the article refers to considerations on the influence of bodily integrity (attributes and modes of ‘the matter’) and on human thinking (on what can be logically thought). The author follows the path of logic investigations that lead to the concept of experimental literary criticism (three‑dimensional reading of the texts), which is closely connected with the recently forgotten idea of truth, as defined by Charles Sanders Peirce.

The essay tries to capture the epistemological status of poetry from the perspective of questions posed by the economy of literature. Selected theories of poetry – those of Jochen Hörisch, Viktor B. Shklovsky, Jean Baudrillard and Franco Berardi – can be regarded as a kind of “economics of poetry” due to their proposed treatment of the properties of the poetic medium from an economic perspective. In each of these theories, poetry is defined as uneconomical and useless, which, paradoxically, becomes its fundamental condition for existence as a place for breaking the linguistic circulation of signs, a point of resistance against conventionalized communication and automatization of perception, and thus a medium offering unique knowledge about reality.

The diversity of social needs and expectations towards university education requires that the academic community analyze its current status, future challenges and consider initiatives that address these challenges. Thus, emphasizing the significance of universitas, as a community of teaching and learning (universitas studiorum et studentium), it is worth investigating how to build this community without losing fundamental values in massive studies. The university fulfills its own purpose when in a specific community that employs scientific creativity and research, it leads a person to development of their versatile spiritual potential of mind, will, heart, and a formation of the whole person.

The author focuses on selected issues grouped into few sets of problems: 1) criteria of decision making in choosing topics for the investigations, 2) publication strategies, 3) promoting young scientists, 4) interpersonal relationships influencing quality of research – team problems, critique, cooperation, and competition, 5) respecting authorship of ideas and participation in the researches, 6) management of scientific institutions – priorities, challenges, and Machiavellian strategies, 7) making profits on scientific activity and applications, 8) marketing strategies promoting and disturbing scientific activity, 9) ideological biases and socio-political engagement of the scholars representing the humanities and social sciences. The main thesis of the article is that developing healthy interpersonal relationships contributes to one’s respect for the truth as a crucial value of scientific activity.

What follows from the above assumption is a discussion of the notion of truth which is fundamental to media philosophy. Systems, in their adopted strategies, affect the media and use persuasion in a way that is remote from the treatment of the truth as an idea or as a condition of an ethical nature.

It is stated both by Tischner and his scholars that he follows the footsteps of Hegel. Yet thus far no one – including Tischner himself – was talking about exactly this aspect of Tischner’s thought that is antiHegelian. The best way to do that is to address the issue of truth. Tischner’s theory of truth is antiHegelian because Tischner puts emphasize on the word “feeling”, while at the same time describing his distrust for ontology, which leads him to two things: he thinks about truth first and foremost as a kind of value which is not privileged among other values, and he thinks too little about society. So it is anti-Hegelian because it denies the requirement of Hegel’s science as being the true knowledge of spirit about spirit. In order to understand more from Tischner’s philosophy independently of the issue of Hegel’s philosophy, one should take into consideration Tischner’s theory of evil.
