The article presents a short history of the Museum of Toys and Play in Kielce since itsestablishment in 1979 until present times. Moreover, attempts have been taken to demonstrate how functioning of this institution changed over the years. It has been shown that - apart from the fundamental activity concerning: the acquisition, description and presentation of the exhibits - the Museum fulfils a number of other functions. Information has been revealed regarding the unique character and originality of the museum collections. The questions of collectorship, co-operation with Polish and foreign museums and scholarly institutions in Poland have been dealt with. A new image of the Museum of Toys and Play, which was created after moving the institution to the new building was noticed, as well as its development and a multi-faceted character. Also, it wasn’t left unnoticed that the museum occupies now an important place on the map of Kielce.

INTRODUCTION In recent years, toys have become the products most often classified as hazardous products. They are a cause of physical injuries and they are posing a serious risk of chemical poisoning. The aim of this study was to investigate young mother’s awareness about the health risk associated with using toys by children, which do not meet quality standards. Women’s knowledge about the meaning of the trademarks certifying the safety of toys and knowledge about agencies which supervise the safety of toys in Poland was also examined. MATERIAL AND METHODS The questionnaire survey by the author’s questionnaire, containing 19 questions, closed and open was conducted. The study involved 143 mothers of children attending kindergartens and early grades of primary schools in Zabrze in 2009. The study involved also young mothers who filled out the questionnaire over the internet. RESULTS Young mother’s awareness about harmful chemicals potentially occurring in toys is very weak. More than half of the questioned women couldn’t identify any chemical compound, which poses a health risk. Almost all interviewed women are not aware of the link between exposure to xenobiotics potentially contained in toys and hormonal disorders and development disorders, both physical and mental. Women’s knowledge about agencies which supervise the safety of toys in Poland is also unsatisfactory. It was proven that there is a significant link between age, education level and the level of health risk perception, associated with the usage of unsafe toys and knowledge about agencies which supervise the safety of products available on local market. CONCLUSIONS There is a need of taking action for raising the society’s awareness in the safety of toys.
WSTĘP W ostatnich latach zabawki stały się produktami najczęściej klasyfikowanymi jako produkty niebezpieczne. Są one przyczyną urazów fizycznych, jak również stwarzają poważne ryzyko zatrucia substancjami chemicznymi. Cel. Celem niniejszej pracy było zbadanie świadomości młodych matek w zakresie ryzyka zdrowotnego związanego z wykorzystywaniem przez dzieci zabawek nie spełniających wymogów jakościowych. Analizowano również wiedzę kobiet na temat znajomości znaków towarowych poświadczających bezpieczeństwo zabawki, a także organów nadzorujących bezpieczeństwo zabawek w Polsce. MATERIAŁ I METODY Przeprowadzono badania kwestionariuszowe przy użyciu autorskiego kwestionariusza zawierającego 19 pytań zamkniętych i otwartych. Badaniami objęto 143 matki dzieci uczęszczających do zabrzańskich przedszkoli i klas początkowych szkół podstawowych w 2009 roku oraz użytkowniczki forum internetowego skierowanego do młodych matek. WYNIKI Świadomość młodych matek w zakresie szkodliwych substancji chemicznych potencjalnie występujących w zabawkach jest bardzo słaba. Ponad połowa badanych kobiet nie potrafiła wskazać ani jednego związku chemicznego, który stwarza zagrożenie dla zdrowia. Niemal wszystkie respondentki są nieświadome istnienia związku między narażeniem na ksenobiotyki potencjalnie występujące w zabawkach, a zaburzeniami hormonalnymi oraz zaburzeniami rozwojowymi: fizycznymi i psychicznymi. Wiedza kobiet na temat organów nadzorujących bezpieczeństwo zabawek w Polsce jest również niezadowalająca. Wykazano istotny wpływ ekswieku oraz poziomu wykształcenia na poziom percepcji ryzyka zdrowotnego związanego z wykorzystywaniem niebezpiecznych zabawek, a także na stopień znajomości instytucji sprawujących kontrolę nad bezpieczeństwem produktów dostępnych na rynku. WNIOSKI Istnieje potrzeba podjęcia działań na rzecz podniesienia świadomości społeczeństwa w zakresie bezpieczeństwa zabawek.

The presented article reveals suggestions and possibilities of employing the most mo-dern technologies in the process of child's growth. The present world enables of games, computer multi-programmes, toys and it is very essential to apply them for educational reasons or coping with inner conflictsof moral nature. The latter and the like problems appear in interactions with other people. With the help of properly designed 'aids' it is possible to create such a 'laboratory' or workplace that enables children, during its functioning, to experience essential problems in their development not necessarily staying with live people knowledge simultaneously.
W artykule przedstawiono propozycję i możliwości wykorzystania nowoczesnych technologii w procesie rozwoju dziecka. W dzisiejszym świecie można posługiwać się różnymi grami, oprogramowaniem, komputerami, zabawkami, przy czym istotne jest ich użycie w celu edukacji oraz radzenia sobie z konfliktamiwewnętrznymi natury moralnej. Stosowanie odpowiednio zaprojektowanych "pomocy" edukacyjnych może zapobiec problemom (konfliktom)zachodzącym w relacjach między ludźmi. Odpowiedni warsztat pracy (laboratorium) umożliwia dzieciom nie tylko nabycie odpowiedniej wiedzy, ale także odczuwanie ważnych rozwojowo wydarzeń i relacji, niekoniecznie będąc w towarzystwie z innymi ludźmi.

The problem of product life as an important factor of toys safe use is considered. Main sources of hazards and their adverse effect to children health are characterized. The results of unwanted events associated with improper toy design and with its quality of manufacture as well as with use of inappropriate materials for toys production are discussed. Necessity of using the laboratory testing methods based on ageing process to predict changes in toys parameters during their use are pointed out. Features and criteria for assessment of toys life in the light of formal and legal requirements are specified. Considering experience of other scientists, presented in scientific publications as well as the results of the author studies, the innovative method for assessment of life of toys made of polymers is suggested.

This article attempts to demonstrate that specialized video games concerning animals or animal care, especially for girls, may lead to virtual activities and /or real care of animals, which may later cause some girls to consider a profession in animal care. In order to test our hypothesis, in 2009 we conducted – through the reading of toy-catalogues in supermarkets and toy stores (randomly selected) – a statistical study with the regards to the number of male and female characters shown on the packages of video games (for computers, Nintendo, and television) which were related to animals, horse-riding and/or the profession of veterinarian (vet”), in order to find out if these games were more particularly intended for girls. We completed this study by examining the packaging (i.e. boxes) – their color and the title of the video game. Furthermore, a qualitative analysis was conducted on the characteristics and roles played by boys and girls in the video games examined, in order to determine what roles are assigned to each sex in these games concerning animals.

The article discusses the role of the city in Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by the philosopher Leszek Kołakowski, and in the animated film series Fourteen Tales from the Kingdom of Lailonia by Leszek Kołakowski, which is an adaptation of the book. The article is written from the point of view of the originator of the adaptation and the screenwriter of all the films in the series. The author examines the historical and ideological context of L. Kołakowski’s writing the Tales … and analyzes the role of the city understood as the setting of the plot (topos) and the venue for an exchange of ideas (agora) and for the community (polis); he does so on three levels: that of the literary original, the screenplay adaptation, and the film. He also examines the role of the city in those senses for the drama of the individual films, the philosophical and esthetic premises of the role, and – in these contexts – the relations between the selected films and their screenplays.

Being a reflective practitioner is a task for a teacher and a tool for his real professional development. This article presents a teacher’s reflection before action, focused on the goal of education, a reflection in action, where the teacher is an observer, tutor and diagnostician, and a reflection after action, where I analyzed children’s activity in classes with educational toys. For the teacher’s work I have described the possibility of diagnosing students cognitive development based on their social role; how do they build strategies of logical thinking; what is wrong with preschool education; and how to engage students in classes. Toys emitting sounds are classified as significant sources of noise found in the children environment. Impulse and continuous noise emitted by toys, used in close to the child’s ear, acting directly on the organ of hearing, can lead to serious adverse health effects. This is especially true for children under the age of three, in which the state of the hearing organ determines their intellectual development. The current level of safety of sound emitting toys intended for children in this age group is insufficient. This is confirmed by the reports from the control of market surveillance authorities. A new approach to the assessment of children’s exposure to noise generated by toys, included in EN 71-1:2011 + A2:2013 Standard, based on the permissible values applicable to the workplaces, requires further tests and verification. The paper presents the results of the research work and assesses the level of sound emitted by toys in the light of current standard requirements, carried out using the author’s methodology. Toys intended for children under the age of 3 years, commercialized on the European market by Polish manufacturers and importers were tested. The results of the tests allowed us to determine the impact of duration of the sound pressure level measurement on the final result.

This paper analyzes the contemporary context of nostalgia, recollection and narration of childhood events on the basis of field notes collected by means of different methodological techniques. The narrative quest for the past produces interpretations of past events and experiences and opens the space to the feeling of nostalgia, or nostalgic stories. This paper aims to present a small portion of the captured everyday life in which games and toys appear as any other subobject or pseudoobject of nostalgia, but with a distance from one’s own childhood experience. We utilize Donald Braid’s approach which opens the space for observing the transmission of oral personal narratives and the transmission of emotions in and through language.

The paper presents the results of research carried out in a company producing children's toys and products for the automotive industry. Was made an quality analysis in the manufacturing process for the children's toys - fire brigade. The study used quality management tools: Pareto-Lorenz and Ishikawa diagrams. Based on the survey identified production areas that require attention and eliminate the source of the incompatibilities.
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań zrealizowanych w przedsiębiorstwie produkującym zabawki dziecięce oraz wyroby dla przemysłu samochodowego. Wykonano analizę jakości w procesie produkcyjnym dla zabawki dziecięcej - straż pożarna. Do badań wykorzystano narzędzia zarządzania jakością: diagram Pareto-Lorenza i diagram Ishikawy. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań określono obszary produkcji które wymagają uwagi i eliminacji źródeł powstawania niezgodności.

Obecnie bardzo duży nacisk w procesie edukacji kładziony jest na rozwijanie umiejętności logicznego i abstrakcyjnego myślenia, co jest niezbędne do nauki programowania. Powszechnie dostępne są systemy, które pomagają oswoić się z tym zagadnieniem już od najmłodszych lat. W niniejszej pracy przedstawiona została alternatywa dla takich aplikacji – bloczki EduMATRIX. Ich głównym atutem jest nauczanie zagadnień związanych z programowaniem bez konieczności przebywania przed ekranem komputera. Ponadto zaproponowano metodę walidacji użyteczności EduMATRIX oraz innych dostępnych pomocy dydaktycznych, która pozwoli na wskazanie skutecznej formy nauki dla młodych użytkowników.
Currently, the development of the skills of logical and abstract thinking is empahasize in the edu-cation process. This is essential for learning programming. Systems that help to be familiar with this issue since an early age are widely available. In this paper an alternative for such applications is presented – EduMATRIX. Its main advantage is the teaching of programming without the need to stay in front of a computer screen. Moreover, a validation method of EduMATRIX and other available teaching aids, which will identify effective form of learning for young users, was proposed.

Opis:
Migration of hazardous substances from the packaging and materials in contact with the food and direct contact with the children is an important issue nowadays. It is well know that chemical compounds such as adhesives from packaging and toys can migrate, but question how much migration occurs and what potential health effects it may cause is gaining more attention from researchers. We know that migrating substances can be harmful to health, moreover in case of food they can also change its sensory characteristics. Packaged food is very convenient, but unfortunately since most foods are packaged an increasing number of people are likely to be exposed. Second very important topic in the context of safety are toys for children. Toys contribute to the development of a child however they must be safe for children and ensuring that they do not put children at any risk is a priority. The EU legislation is designed to ensure that toys comply with safety requirements, which are among the strictest in the world, especially in relation to the presence of chemicals. Currently, work is underway in Research & Development Centre for the Graphic Arts aimed at developing adhesive formulations safe for food use and production of toys that meet standards and regulations in this regard.

Opis:
The article presents the environment in which children lived from their birth to about the age of four, illustrated with the selected examples of the native painting: panel painting, wall painting and illumination. The text is divided into three parts: Swaddling bands. Cradles. Accessories, Feeding infants and Toys. The first one discusses things necessary for looking after a newborn baby and an infant. This category includes, apart from swaddling bands and cradles mentioned above, tied-cloth ‘pacifiers’, sustentaculum and chamber pots. The second part analyses different methods of feeding such as breastfeeding and formula feeding. The last section, based on archeological discoveries, focuses on toys. Thanks to iconographic sources and findings presented by historians and archeologists, the author was able to present a coherent story about the life of the youngest in the late Middle Ages and at the dawn of the early modern period.
Artykuł prezentuje środowisko, w jakim funkcjonowały dzieci od narodzenia do ok. 4 roku życia na wybranych przykładach rodzimego malarstwa: tablicowego, ściennego i iluminatorstwa. Teskt został podzielony na trzy części: Powijaki. Kołyski. Akcesoria, Karmienie niemowlęcia oraz Zabawki. Pierwsza omawia najpotrzebniejsze rzeczy do opieki nad noworodkiem i niemowlęciem. W tej kategorii znalazły się oprócz wspominanych powijaków i kołysek również sysułka, sustentaculum oraz nocnik. Druga część analizuje sposoby żywienia: karmienie piersią oraz żywienie sztuczne. Ostatnia, poparta odkryciami archeologicznymi, skupia się na wyszczególnieniu zabawek. Dzięki źródłom ikonograficznym oraz ustaleniom historyków i archeologów tworzy spójną opowieść o funkcjonowaniu najmłodszych w późnym średniowieczu i u progu nowożytności.
