    The purpose of this study was to gather data from the mothers of children with Tourette Syndrome (TS), in order to examine the extent to which the existence of a child with TS in the family affected mothers’ Quality of Life (QOL). The research was conducted according to the qualitative methods. Data was collected from semistructures interviews with 50 mothers of children with TS. The interviews were analyzed using a content analysis method. Conclusions derived from the research findings found that lack of accurate diagnosis and information leaded mothers to a state of imbalance and great stress. When they were given accurate information, they seemed to be more able to advocate for the child with TS and thus preventmisunderstandings, and consequent unpleasant situations and confusion.

    Zespół Tourette’a (TS) jest zaburzeniem neurorozwojowym, które charakteryzuje się współwystępowaniem tików motorycznych i wokalnych. Zaburzenie zwykle ma swój początek w dzieciństwie, a jego objawy mogą utrzymywać się również w okresie dorosłości. U większości pacjentów z TS rozpoznaje się zaburzenia współwystępujące, które mogą w znaczącym stopniu wpływać na obraz kliniczny choroby. W artykule przedstawiono zaburzenia zachowania i emocji, które są diagnozowane u osób z TS najczęściej, a mianowicie: zespół nadpobudliwości psychoruchowej z deficytem uwagi (ADHD), zaburzenia obsesyjno-kompulsyjne (OCD), depresję, zaburzenia zachowania (CD) oraz zachowania samookaleczające (SIB).
    Tourette syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterizedby the co-occurrence of motor and vocal tics. TSusually begins in childhood and its symptoms may also persistinto adulthood. Most patients with TS are diagnosed withcomorbidities that can significantly affect the clinical pictureof the disease. The article presents behavioral and emotionaldisorders that are most often diagnosed in people with TS,namely: attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), depression, conduct disorder(CD) and self-injurious behaviour (SIB).

    Introduction: Nicotine is a widely known alkaloid synthesized from tobacco plants, being a main constituent of tobacco smoke and cigarettes. Nicotine has also gained eminence as the therapeutic option in managing smoking cessation and even other health conditions. However, the therapeutic potential of nicotine in other diseases has yet to be completely assessed. This information void stems from an inherent aversion from researchers in assessing nicotine’s risk-benefit, due to its toxicities. We present information on the current body of evidence relating to non-traditional therapeutic applications of nicotine to fill this literature void. The purpose of this work is to present current literature on the therapeutic uses of nicotine in treating various diseases. Methods: Electronic search in PubMed for relevant research relating to the therapeutic potential of nicotine in various diseases. Results/conclusions: Nicotine has gained therapeutic significance as an active compound of the nicotine replacement therapy. Research show nicotine may have other therapeutic applications in some diseases. We discussed application of nicotine in diminished prevalence of Parkinson’s disease, decreasing symptoms of the Tourette’s syndrome, psychiatric diseases like chizophrenia, depression and management of pain. We also reviewed nicotine dosing, type of formulations, and compliance which are crucial factors in the therapeutic applications of nicotine.

    Artykuł poświęcony jest problematyce osób z niepełnosprawnością we współczesnej literaturze ukraińskiej. Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na specyfikę ujęcia problemu Innego, w szczególności osoby z zespołem Tourette’a, obecnej w powieści (Nie)widzialni współczesnego ukra- ińskiego pisarza Iwana Bajdaka. Zaakcentowano bezpośredni związek niepełnosprawności (zespołu Tourette’a) autora z jego powieścią. Zauważono, że obecność w powieści bohaterów z niepełnospraw- nością nacechowana jest kondycją fizyczną samego autora, który przy ich pomocy stara się nie tylko demonstrować własne wartości i wytyczne, lecz także skłaniać ludzi i społeczeństwo do akceptacji Innego jako odmiennego. Wszakże pragnienie zrozumienia, miłości i wsparcia osób z niepełnospraw- nością napotyka trudności z powodu stereotypów w społeczeństwie, w którym często nie ma miejsca dla głównego bohatera Adama, ponieważ dla ludzi pozostaje on Innym, Obcym lub, jak pisze autor na początku powieści, „Nie takim”. Ponadto powieść ma pomóc osobom niepełnosprawnym zrozu- mieć siebie i Innych, a co najważniejsze, zaakceptować swoją wyjątkowość i nauczyć się siebie kochać.
    The article is devoted to the theme of people with disabilities in modern Ukrainian literature. The purpose of the article is to analyze the issues which a person with Tourette’s syndrome has in modern society, as described in the novel (In)visible by Ivan Baidak. Based on the interpreta- tion, it can be concluded that in the novel, the presence of characters with disabilities is marked by the physical condition of the author himself. With their help, he seeks not only to declare his own values and guidelines, but also to persuade people to accept the Other as a part of society. The desire for understanding, love and support fails due to the prevailing stereotypes in society, in which there is often no place for the protagonist Adam, because for people he remains the Other, a Stranger, or, as the author says at the beginning of the novel, the “Unlike”. In addition, the novel aims to help people with disabilities understand themselves and, most importantly, accept their uniqueness and learn to love themselves.
