Opis:
The species of the Late Devonian, earliest Famennian placoderm fish Bothriolepis jeremejevi has been downranked to subspecies Bothriolepis leptocheira jeremejevi comb. nov. in a result of detailed morphological studies of the type specimens and abundant new material from the type locality of the Sosnogorsk Formation, South Timan, Komi Republic, Russia. This taxon closely resembles Bothriolepis leptocheira leptocheira from Scotland, B. leptocheira curonica from Latvia, and B. leptocheira ssp. from Severnaya Zemlya differing only in small deviations of the size, proportions and shape of some plates of the armour. The composition of vertebrate assemblages from Scotland, Latvia, and Severnaya Zemlya containing B. leptocheira demonstrates a reduced diversity of antiarch placoderm, acanthodian, and sarcopterygian fishes; however, the Sosnogorsk assemblage differs in a larger diversity containing very primitive tetrapod and diversified sarcopterygian fishes including dipnoans and porolepiforms but lacking acanthodians. Wide distribution of a single species of Bothriolepis and usually diminished diversity of vertebrates suggest that the earliest Famennian vertebrate assemblages conform the survival faunas of the latest Frasnian–earliest Famennian biotic crisis.

Opis:
The lower Frasnian (transitans Zone with Ancyrodella priamosica = MN 4 Zone) rhythmic basin succession of marly limestones and shales (upper Szydłówek Beds) at Kostomłoty, western Holy CrossMts., Central Poland, contains a record of the transgressive-hypoxic Timan Event in this drowned part of southern Laurussian shelf. The unique facies consists of organic-rich marly shales and a distinctive pyritic, goniatite level, 1.6mthick. The faunal assemblage is dominated by pyritized shells of diminutivemollusks with cephalopods (including goniatites Epitornoceras and Acanthoclymenia), buchioline bivalves (Glyptohallicardia) and styliolinids. This interval is marked by moderately low Th/U ratios and pyrite framboid size distributions suggestive of dysoxic rather than permanent euxinic conditions. The scarcity of infauna and bioturbation resulted in finely laminated sedimentary fabrics, as well as the low diversity of the presumed pioneer benthos (mostly brachiopods). In the topmost part of the Szydłówek Beds, distinguished by the Styliolina coquina interbedded between limestone-biodetrital layers, the above geochemical proxies and C-isotope positive shift indicate a tendency to somewhat increased bottom oxygen deficiency and higher carbon burial rate linked with a bloom of pelagic biota during high-productivity pulse. The geochemical and community changes are a complex regional record of the initial phase of a major perturbation in the earth-ocean system during a phase of intermittently rising sea level in the early to middle Frasnian, and associated with the highest positive C-isotope ratios of the Devonian.

Opis:
Most of the Frasnian regional stages of the Ukhta region, South Timan, Russia, are composed of basinal deposits, however, the hassi and jamieae zones of the Standard Conodont Zonation cannot be easily recognised in this region. A revision of the previously elaborated succession of the Timan-Pechora associations revealed that the correlation problems are connected with the taxonomic interpretation of the zonal species Palmatolepis hassi and Palmatolepis jamieae. Analysis of the conodont collection of Professor W. Ziegler from the Rhenish Slate Mountains, Germany, especially from the interval encompassing the Lower hassi to Upper rhenana zones, has provided evidence of the lack of validity of the jamieae Zone as a separate stratigraphic unit. This statement is based on the composition of the jamieae and Lower rhenana conodont associations and the absence of P. jamieae near the lower boundary of the zone in the stratotype and other sections of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, becoming more common upsection. The correlation between the Timan-Pechora conodont associations III–XI, the Standard Conodont Zonation (Ziegler and Sandberg 1990) and the Frasnian Zonation (Klapper 1989; Klapper and Kirchgasser 2016) is suggested herein. The Domanikian Regional Stage corresponds to the punctata–Late hassi zones of the Standard Conodont Zonation and to Frasnian Zones 5–10. The boundaries of Frasnian Zones 8–9 need to be further specified in South Timan. The correlation between the Standard Conodont Zonation and the Frasnian Zonation of Klapper is elaborated.
