Alunogen (Al2(SO4)3∙17H2O), a rare secondary mineral, has been found in the efflorescence on sandstones from the Stone Town Nature Reserve in Ciężkowice, southeastern Poland. This is probably the first find of this salt on such rocks in Poland. Alunogen forms in various geological environments, but mainly from the oxidation of pyrite and other metal sulfides in ore deposits and Al-rich Earth materials under low-pH conditions. Its crystallization at this particular site depends on a set of necessary physicochemical (pH, concentration), climatic (season, temperature, humidity), site-related (location and protection of efflorescence), and mineralogical (the presence of pyrite) conditions. This paper presents the mineralogical and geochemical characteristics of the alunogen from the Stone Town Nature Reserve (based on SEM-EDS, XRPD, EPMA and Raman spectroscopy methods) as well as of the efflorescence itself (based on XRPD and STA coupled with QMS and FTIR for the analysis of gas products). Crystals of alunogen take the shape of flakes, often with a hexagonal outline, clustered in aggregates forming a cellular network. Its calculated formula is (Al1.96Fe3+ 0.01)∑1.97(SO4)3∙17H2O (based on 12 O and 17 H2O). The unit-cell parameters refined for the triclinic space group P1 are: a = 7.423 (1) Å, b = 26.913 (5) Å, c = 6.056 (1) Å, α = 89.974 (23)°, β = 97.560 (25)°, γ = 91.910 (22)°. The Raman spectra (SO4) bands are: intensive 995 cm−1 (ν1); low-intensive 1069, 1093 and 1127 cm−1 (ν3); low-intensive 419 and 443; medium-intensive 470 cm−1 (ν2); and medium-intensive 616 cm−1 (ν4). Those at 530, 312 and at 338 cm−1 are assigned to water vibrations and those at 135, 156, 180 cm−1 to the lattice modes. Although the efflorescence contained an admixture of other minerals (pickeringite, gypsum and quartz), the predominant alunogen is almost chemically pure and the above parameters are consistent with the values reported in the literature for alunogen from different locations and of various origins.

This article describes the results of tribological research into epoxy-based composites reinforced with carbon fiber. The composites were subjected to accelerated tests simulating asemi-annual influence of environmental conditions of an elevated temperature, precipitation in combination with an influence of UV-A radiation of 0.83 W/m2 as well as cyclic thermal shocks causing a leap temperature difference of 116.5°C. The process of friction was conducted in conditions of dry friction and wet friction in the presence of water. The authors found apositive influence of a two-month impact of environmental conditions upon increasing wear resistance. They found a reduction in weight in conditions of friction with water. At the same time, a reliability analysis for the same boundary conditions showed an increased risk of critical composite damage. The article indicates areas of safe exploitation of composites and areas of the necessity of withdrawing composites from further exploitation under the assumed environmental and tribological loads.

Opis:
The new three-dimensional coordination polymer termed {[Na2SDC(H2O)]} n (SDC2-= C16H10O42-) has been synthesized using workstation Easymax 102 while controlling the conditions and monitoring in-situ reagents. The metal complex was obtained in the reaction of sodium hydroxide with a suspension of 4,4’-stilbenedicarboxylic acid in aqueous medium. The compound was characterized by elemental analysis, single crystal, and powder X-ray diffraction methods, ATR-FTIR spectroscopy, SEM and optical microscopy, TG-DSC and TG-FTIR thermal analysis in air and nitrogen atmosphere. In the crystal structure of {[Na2SDC(H2O)]} n appears penta- and hexacoordinated sodium atoms joined by octa- and decadentate SDC2- linkers. Aqua ligand acts as bridge between Na1 and Na2 atoms. The as-synthesized sodium complex is thermally stable up to 86°C whereas its dehydrated form has extreme stability up to 491°C. Removal of water molecule leads to the crystal-to-crystal transformation yielded changes in coordination modes of COO groups. Reversibility of the hydration process in the studied complex was also examined.

The aim of the study was to assess the profile of EC (elemental carbon) and OC (organic carbon) temperature fractions in PM1 and PM2.5 samples and in wet deposition samples (material collected on a filter). The research was conducted at the urban background station in Zabrze (southern Poland) in the period of Oct 2020–Oct 2021. PM samples were collected with high-volume samplers; the automatic precipitation collector NSA 181 by Eigenbrodt was used to collect the deposition samples. Concentrations of EC and OC were determined using thermal-optical method (carbon analyzer from Sunset Laboratory Inc., “eusaar_2” protocol). Regardless of the type of research material, organic carbon constituted the dominant part of the carbonaceous matter, and this dominance was more visible in the non-heating season. The profile of temperature fractions of OC and EC was clearly different for dust washed out by precipitation. Noteworthy is a much lower content of pyrolytic carbon (PC) in OC, which can be explained by the fact that PC is most often combined with the water soluble organic carbon. In addition, a high proportion of the OC3 fraction was observed, followed by OC4, which may indicate that these fractions are of a more regional origin. With regard to the EC fractions, the differences are less visible and concern, in particular, the higher share of EC4 and the lower of EC2. The obtained results may be a valuable source of information about the actual status of the carbonaceous matter and its transformation in the atmosphere .
Celem badań była ocena profilu frakcji temperaturowych EC (węgiel elementarny) i OC (węgiel organiczny) w próbkach PM1 i PM2,5 oraz w próbkach depozycji mokrej (materiał zgromadzony na sączku). Badania przeprowadzono na stacji tła miejskiego w Zabrzu w okresie X 2020–X 2021. Próbki PM pobierano za pomocą poborników wysoko-objętościowych. Do poboru próbek depozycji zastosowano automatyczny kolektor opadów NSA 181 firmy Eigenbrodt. Stężenia EC i OC oznaczono metodą termiczno-optyczną (analizator węgla firmy Sunset Laboratory Inc., protokół „eusaar_2”). Niezależnie od rodzaju materiału badawczego węgiel organiczny stanowił dominującą część materii węglowej, a dominacja ta była bardziej widoczna w sezonie niegrzewczym. Profil frakcji temperaturowych OC i EC różnił się wyraźnie dla pyłu z depozycji mokrej. Na uwagę zasługuje znacznie niższa zawartość węgla pirolitycznego (PC) w OC, co można tłumaczyć tym, że PC jest najczęściej łączony z rozpuszczalnym w wodzie węglem organicznym. Ponadto zaobserwowano wysoki udział frakcji OC3, a następnie OC4, co może wskazywać na bardziej regionalne pochodzenie tych frakcji. W przypadku frakcji EC różnice są mniej widoczne i dotyczą w szczególności wyższego udziału EC4 i mniejszego EC2. Uzyskane wyniki mogą być cennym źródłem informacji o materii węglowej i przemianom jakim podlega w atmosferze.

Opis:
Proper design of power installations with the participation of power cables buried in homogeneous and thermally well-conductive ground does not constitute a major problem. The situation changes when the ground is non-homogeneous and thermally low-conductive. In such a situation, a thermal backfill near the cables is commonly used. The optimization of thermal backfill parameters to achieve the highest possible current-carrying capacity is insufficiently described in the standards. Therefore, numerical calculations based on computational fluid dynamics could prove helpful for designers of power cable lines. This paper studies the influence of dimensions and thermal resistivity of the thermal backfill and thermal resistivity of the native soil on the current-carrying capacity of power cables buried in the ground. Numerical calculations were performed with ANSYS Fluent. As a result of the research, proposals were made on how to determine the current-carrying capacity depending on the dimensions and thermal properties of the backfill. A proprietary mathematical function is presented which makes it possible to calculate the cable current-carrying capacity correction factor when the backfill is used. The research is expected to fill the gap in the current state of knowledge included in the provisions of standards.

The article presents the influence of the percentage share of pig iron and steel scrap on the chemical composition, physicochemical and mechanical properties. Using an induction furnace, 6 melts were carried out with a variable amount of pig iron in the charge from 0 to 50%. For carburizing, a RANCO 9905 carburizer with a carbon content of 99.2% was used. After melting and introducing FeSi75, temperature measurement was carried out and the metal was superheated to 1500°C. The next step was to pour the samples for chemical analysis, DTA (Derivation Thermal Analysis) and strength and hardness from the melting furnace without inoculation. The last step was to carry out the inoculation by introducing 0.3% barium inoculant into the vat and pouring samplers for DTA analysis. The inoculation was carried out solely to determine changes in DTA parameters, mainly Temin, compared to castings without inoculation.

In this work, an effort has been made to determine the effect of different shape surgical burr on the thermogenesis during bone osteotomy. The abrasion during bone grinding leads to heat generation and subsequently rise in the temperature which may have adverse effects such as osteonecrosis, blood coagulation in the carotid artery, damage to sciatic nerves, and even loss of vision. So, mitigating the temperature rise during bone grinding is of paramount importance. Especially, in endoscopic endonasal approach (EEA) in which nasal passage is used for the inserting the grinding burr and reaching the target region. The miniature abrasion can significantly increase the temperature and hence leads to the thermal damage to nerves surrounding the temporal and frontal lobe. These parts of the brain controls movement, problem solving ability, behavior, personality mood, hearing, language, memory, speech, breathing, heart rate, consciousness etc. Furthermore, neurosurgeons rely on their personal surgical experience for estimating the temperature rise during grinding. However, this is much difficult for novice surgeons. Therefore, it becomes critically important to preserve the soft neural tissues and nerves amid bone grinding. To overcome these concerns, infrared thermography technique has been exploited to determine the possibility of thermogenesis during bone grinding by measuring the temperature rise and its distribution using infrared camera. All experiments have been carried at a constant set of process variables. The grinding zone is continuously flooded with the irrigating solution to remove the heat and bone debris away from the grinding site. It has been observed that convex tool shape generated lower maximum temperature i.e. 46.03 ℃ among all tools. The temperature produced by the convex tool is 12.06% lower than spherical tool, 33.39% lower than cylindrical tool, and 10.55% lower than tree-shape tool. The results showed that convex shape tool could prevent thermal necrosis in the bone as temperature caused (i.e. 46 ℃) was less than the threshold limit of osteonecrosis. Thermograms revealed that infrared thermography technique could be implemented for the in-vivo surgical operations for the measurement of temperature during bone grinding.

The purpose of the study was to analyze the combined model of bioheat transfer and oxygen distribution in tissue during exposition to the external heat impulse. The effect of temperature and thermal damage to the tissue on the values of its thermophysical parameters was taken into account. The variable value of the perfusion coefficient affects the blood velocity in the capillary and thus the distribution of the partial oxygen pressure in the tissue. Various models of the oxygen dissociation curves were also considered and a sensitivity analysis was performed for the parameters of the oxygen distribution model. In the numerical realization stage, the finite difference method and the shooting method were used.

Natural stones are used as coating material on the exteriors and terraces of buildings in architecture, and in places such as entrances, halls, living rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and stairs in interior spaces. Limra limestone and travertine are used as natural building materials in many structures depending on their colors. However, the water absorption values of these two natural stones are high due to their porosity, resulting in negative effects from atmospheric conditions. In this study, two different carbonate-based natural stones, limra limestone and travertine, were treated with two different water-repellent chemicals, one solvent-based and one water-based. After application, thermal shock tests were performed with a sodium chloride solution consisting of twenty cycles. The changes in the weights of samples dried to constant mass, ultrasonic permeability, Leeb hardness, and color change values in the samples were determined after the thermal shock tests. In addition, the effects of water-repellent chemicals on the formation of NaCl crystals accumulated in the pores of the rocks were examined by SEM and EDX analysis. Changes in non-destructively measured values were compared with the values of reference samples without surface protection. The solvent-based water-repellent chemical made the sample surface more hydrophobic than the water-based repellent. In both types of natural stones, the solvent-based water repellent chemical showed more protective properties against salt crystallization under thermal shock conditions compared to the water-based repellent.
Kamienie naturalne są stosowane jako materiał powłokowy na zewnątrz i tarasach budynków w architekturze oraz w miejscach takich jak wejścia, hole, pokoje dzienne, kuchnie, łazienki i schody w przestrzeniach wewnętrznych. Wapień limra i trawertyn są wykorzystywane jako naturalne materiały budowlane w wielu konstrukcjach w zależności od ich kolorystyki. Jednak wartości nasiąkliwości tych dwóch kamieni naturalnych są wysokie ze względu na ich porowatość, co skutkuje negatywnym oddziaływaniem warunków atmosferycznych. W tym badaniu dwa różne kamienie naturalne na bazie węglanów, wapień limra i trawertyn, potraktowano dwoma różnymi hydrofobowymi chemikaliami, jednym na bazie rozpuszczalnika i jednym na bazie wody. Po aplikacji przeprowadzono testy szoku termicznego z roztworem chlorku sodu składające się z 20 cykli. Zmiany masy suszonych do stałej masy próbek, przepuszczalność ultradźwięków, twardość Leeba oraz zmiany barwy w próbkach określono po testach szoku termicznego. Ponadto zbadano wpływ chemikaliów hydrofobowych na powstawanie kryształów NaCl gromadzących się w porach skał za pomocą analizy SEM (skaningowa mikroskopia elektronowa) i EDX (rentgenowska dyspersja energii). Zmiany wartości mierzonych w sposób nieniszczący porównano z wartościami próbek referencyjnych bez zabezpieczenia powierzchni. Środek hydrofobowy na bazie rozpuszczalnika sprawił, że powierzchnia próbki była bardziej hydrofobowa niż powierzchnia na bazie wody. W obu typach kamieni naturalnych hydrofobowa substancja chemiczna na bazie rozpuszczalnika wykazywała lepsze właściwości ochronne przed krystalizacją soli w warunkach szoku termicznego w porównaniu z substancją na bazie wody.

Opis:
The effective thermal conductivity and air permeability of a multifilament polyester yarn used in sports T-shirts was investigated by computer modeling using finite element analysis (COMSOL Multiphysics, ABAQUS/CAE). It has been shown that the number of fibers, the porosity of the yarn and the proportion of fibers in the volume fraction of the yarn have a direct effect on the effective thermal conductivity and air permeability of the multifilament yarn. It was found that with the increase in the number of fibers, the porosity of the yarn decreases linearly, while the volume fraction of the fibers increases, and thus the effective thermal conductivity increases. In addition, air permeability decreases exponentially.
Zbadano efektywne przewodzenie ciepła i przepuszczalność powietrza wielowłókienkowej przędzy poliestrowej stosowanej w koszulce sportowej poprzez modelowanie obliczeniowe z użyciem analizy elementów skończonych (COMSOL Multiphysics, ABAQUS/CAE). Wykazano, że liczba włókien, porowatość przędzy oraz udział objętościowy włókien w przędzy mają bezpośredni wpływ na przewodzenie ciepła i przepuszczalność powietrza przędzy wielowłókienkowej. Wraz ze wzrostem liczby włókien porowatość przędzy maleje liniowo, natomiast zwiększa się udział objętościowy włókien, a tym samym efektywne przewodnictwo cieplne. Ponadto przepuszczalność powietrza maleje wykładniczo.

The harsh environmental loads may lead to strength failure in the turbine in an aero-engine. To accurately assess the strength reliability of the turbine under multiple loads, the stress distributions of 41 danger sites of a turbine under thermal, centrifugal, and pneumatic loads were determined by the flow-thermal-solid coupling analysis using ANSYS. Second, based on the flow-thermal-solid coupling analysis and response surface method, the probabilistic analysis model of stress at the danger site was established. And the probabilistic distribution of stress was determined by sampling and hypothesis testing. Finally, the reliability model of the turbine with multi-site damage and failure dependency was established, by which a reliability of 0.99802 was calculated. And the actual reliability of the turbine was 0.99626 determined by the Monte Carlo simulations, which verified the model in precision. The results indicated that the reliability model has a high efficiency and higher precision than the traditional reliability model with failure independence.

Opis:
Based on the global goals for cleaner production and sustainable development, the pyrolysis behavior of cephalosporin residues was studied by TG-MS method. The influence of full temperature window on the safe disposal of residues was analyzed based on the “3-2-2” and “1+1” of thermal analysis kinetics, and the gas by-products of thermal degradation were monitored. Results showed that the pyrolysis of distillation residues were divided into low and high-temperature zones, including six stages. Maximum error rate (8.55%) by multiple scan rate was presented based on “3-2-2” pattern and maximum total fluctuation (33.7) by single scan rate was presented based on “1+1” pattern, which implied that the comprehensive multi-level comparison method was very reliable. The E value “E” of six stages showed an increasing trend ranging 166.8 to 872.8 kJ/mol. LgA(mean) was 27.28. Most mechanism function of stage 1, 2 were Z-L-T equation (3D), stage 3, 4, 6 were Avrami-Erofeev equation (AE3, AE4, AE2/3) and stage 5 was Reaction Order (O2). In addition, various small molecular micromolecule substances were detected such as C2H4O, C2H6, NH3, CH4, CO2 under full temperature windows and a possible pyrolysis path of residues was provided.

The experiments conducted in a didactic laboratory of the Kielce University of Technology involved temperature distribution measurements on the outer surface of a steel radiator using a thermal imaging camera and thermocouples to compare both investigation methods. The research included registering the parameters for a specific period for each of the four different medium flows. Graphs present the results with the division of the radiator into eight thermal fields. The results present the differences in temperatures between 1.78°C to 3.65°C. The non-contact method with an infrared camera seems more accurate since it is precise for surface temperature measurement.

Opis:
In this study, the entropy generation resulting from heat and mass transfer of waterbased nanofluid through an annulus within two concentric vertical pipes filled with a porous medium is investigated. This study considers the effects of thermal radiation, viscous dissipation, thermal buoyancy, and axial pressure gradient in addition to heat and mass transfer. Brownian motion and thermophoresis have been introduced through the Buongiorno model. The similarity solution was used to solve nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The RungeKutta-Fehlberg method is used to solve these equations with the related boundary conditions. The effects of pertinent parameters such as pressure gradient, thermal radiation, viscosity parameter, thermophoretic parameter, Brownian motion parameter, and Eckert number are investigated numerically. This study found that the Bejan number increases as the viscosity parameter increases and decreases as the other active parameters increase. As the radiation parameter, thermophoretic parameter, Brownian parameter, and Eckert number increase, the Nusselt number decreases. The total entropy generation rate is found to increase with the fluid viscosity rate, Grashof number, thermal Biot number, and variable pressure gradient. However, the Bejan number is found to decrease with these parameters, as well as the Prandtl number.
