    Opis:
    Sunday is the very center of Christian life. Discovering the meaning of the Lord's Day again is a grace, for which one should pray, in order to respond to every man’s true and deep desire. Rejecting the holiness of Sunday, and in this way treating God’s third commandment superficially, is one of the elements threatening man’s harmonious development. Desacralization of Sunday is proven by organizing and taking up additional gainful employment, doing the hard household chores, doing the shopping in supermarkets or at second-hand car sales. Hence undertaking various actions in dioceses and in parishes seems necessary, in order to restore God's order of living the week.

    Księga Sofoniasza rozpoczyna się dramatyczną wizją sądu Bożego wobec odstępstwa ludu wybranego, który ma się dokonać w Dzień Pański (So 1,2-18). Jednak końcowy fragment tego pierwszego proroctwa (So 2,1-3), zawiera mocne wezwanie do zmiany takiego postępowania, które prowadziło nieuchronnie do zagłady. Lud Boży winien zgromadzić się na nowo zanim nastąpi tragedia. Ci, którzy odpowiadają na wezwanie, prorok nazywa ubogimi Pana, jako ludzi zdolnych zachowywać Jego Prawo. Nawrócenie realizuje się w postawie szukania Pana, które konkretnie realizuje się w pełnieniu sprawiedliwości i życiu pokornym. Tylko w takiej postawie istnieje nadzieja na ocalenie w dniu Bożego sądu.
    Book of Zephaniah starts with dramatic vision of trial of ordeal towards the chosen people deviation, which will take place on the Sabbath (Zep 1,2-18). However final fragment of this first prophecy (Zep 2,1-3) contains strong appeal for change the demeanor which inevitably leads to destruction. The People of God ought to gather newly before the tragedy occurs. Those who reply for appeal prophet calls Lord’s indigents, as people able to keep Lord’s Law. The repentance accomplish through attitude of searching of Lord, which achieves by fulfil justice and humble life. Only by this attitude there is a hope for salvage on Judgment Day/

    Speaking about the Lord’s Day, saint Caesar of Arles († 543) explains to the faithful the importance of this day and other religious holidays. Going to church has a social dimension and clearly distinguishes Christians from Pagans. Bishop of Arles attaches much importance to the fact that Christians systematically and regularly attend church services, care about punctuality and do not leave the church before the end of the Mass. St Caesar, being an experienced pastor, instructs the faithful how to behave in the church. He shows the difference between Christianity and Paganism. Christians celebrate on Sunday, Pagans on Thursday in honour of Jupiter. He asks the faithful not to conduct any court cases on Sunday and abstain from work. Bishop of Arles put the Eucharist in the centre of the Lord’s Day. He teaches that the Eucharist is true Body and Blood of Christ. He points out that the Holy Communion is like medicine for a human being, for his body and his soul, hence the concern of the Bishop so that faithful receive the Eucharist with a pure heart. A necessary condition for receiving of the Eucharist is to forgive a neighbour.

    Ważnym zagadnieniem wymagającym omówienia jest wątek świętowania niedzieli jako dnia Pańskiego. Wbrew pozorom temat ten nie stracił na aktualności, dlatego też podjęto próbę opracowania uwzględniającą nauczanie biskupów podczas pielgrzymek do Piekar Śląskich. Należą do nich pielgrzymki stanowe mężczyzn i młodzieńców odbywające się w ostatnią niedzielę maja oraz pielgrzymki kobiet i panien organizowane w niedzielę po 15 sierpnia. Temat sakralnego charakteru niedzieli poruszali kolejni biskupi katowiccy: Herbert Bednorz, Damian Zimoń i Wiktor Skworc. W okresie PRL przymus pracy w niedzielę był skutkiem wieloletniego rozwoju przemysłu na Górnym Śląsku oraz działań ówczesnych władz, które dążyły do zniewolenia człowieka. Miał temu służyć czterobrygadowy system pracy w kopalniach, który wprowadzono oficjalnie w 1977 r. W odpowiedzi powstało słynne hasło pielgrzymkowe: „niedziela Boża i nasza”. Po przemianach 1989 r. abp Damian Zimoń i abp Wiktor Skworc nadal przypominali to hasło, sprzeciwiając się praktyce handlu niedzielnego oraz powstawania nowych centrów handlowych. Często przemawiali w imieniu osób zatrudnionych w handlu, które nie miały czasu dla rodziny i na odpoczynek oraz nie mogły uczestniczyć w niedzielnej Mszy Świętej. Mimo wejścia w życie zakazu handlu niedzielnego zagadnienie to nadal jest aktualne, wielu bowiem szuka sposobów jego obejścia.
    A particularly important issue that needs to be presented is the topic of celebrating Sunday as the Lord’s Day. Contrary to appearances, this topic is still relevant, therefore an attempt has been made to include teaching from the pilgrimages to Piekary Śląskie. This term should be understood as the state pilgrimages of adult and young men which takes place on the last Sunday of May and the pilgrimages of women and girls that takes place on the Sunday after August 15. The subject of the sacred character of Sunday was discussed by the subsequent bishops of Katowice Herbert Bednorz, Damian Zimoń and Victor Skworc. This was the result of many years of industrial development in this area and the actions of the authorities during the People’s Republic of Poland, which aimed at enslaving people. As was evidenced by the implementation of the four-tiered system of work in the mines, which was officially introduced in 1977. Therefore, during the pilgrimages, the famous slogan „God’s Sunday and Ours” was created. After the transformations of 1989, the archbishops Damian Zimoń and Victor Skworc continued to recall this slogan, opposing the practice of conducting business on Sunday and the creation of new shopping centers. Therefore, they often spoke on behalf of those employed in commerce who did not have time for their family and rest, and were prevented from participating in the Sunday Mass. Despite the enforcement of the Sunday trading ban, this issue is still relevant, as many are looking for ways to circumvent it.
