Opis:
Writing qualitative research texts often involves the acknowledgement of the researcher being imbued in the systems of meaning that he or she is studying. This provides a background for incitement to reflexivity, i.e. how one’s own life history and broader cultural context is etched in epistemological and ontological assumptions about the object. This article studies the reflexive style of writing in Michel Foucault’s archaeology of the human sciences, which constantly problematises its own assumptions about studying discourses. His style is described with the analogy of a Moebius strip, highlighting the way the ‘outside’ history of the human sciencesturns into the ‘inside’ conditions of possibility for analysing discursive formations in the history of educational research.

Opis:
Blessed John Paul II in his homilies preached in 1991 to his compatriots in the new socio-political circumstances emphasised that man is still “maturing to freedom”. The human being is created with the free will but his or her freedom needs redemption. The Risen One revealed the immensity of love which the Creator has for his creatures. It is perfected in the act of redemption. The Incarnate Son of God came to restore the fatherhood of God for people as well as the sonship of people in relation to God as the Father. The teaching and the deeds of Christ confirm the superiority of the human over the law. The life of Jesus Christ is characterised by a unique freedom. Jesus knowingly entrusted his earthly lot to the Father. The freedom of Christ has its source in His unity with the Father in the Spirit. Christ is the rock on which the edifice of truth about the world created by God and about the redeemed man stands. “He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom and our righteousness and sanctification and redemption” (1 Cor 1: 30). The awareness of the redemption is based on the conviction that man cannot justify himself or herself but he or she needs God’s justification. Christ is the only Righteous and this is through his obedience that “many will be made righteous” (Rom 5: 19).

The problem addressed in the article refers to an attempt to present the phenomenon of the way, experience, and silence in the context of pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in modern times. The objective is to present what is popularly referred to as Camino as a dynamic and evolving perspective on human spirituality in relation to the challenges of modern times. The main thesis of the proposed study is that this type of pilgrimage offers an alternative to the phenomenon of increasing secularization. The key concepts related to the Camino were discussed and interpreted using the methods of analysis and synthesis in order to present the anthropological vision of the human being developed by Karol Wojtyła and Józef Tischner. An outline of their ideas reveals the deeper meaning of the way and experience. The main conclusion following from the analysis of the issue is that, by embarking on the Camino route, an individual is enabled to take a more in-depth look at his or her own condition, his or her perspective on relationships with others, contemplation, and new opportunities to organize and develop his or her own spirituality.

‘Biopolitics’ is a complex discipline that comprises of various disciplines of science. Today it is discussed in the field of sociology, social, political and medical sciences as a separate notion. Its various concepts and interpretations have resulted in the last centuries in tragic phenomena with the human being seen as a subject of the dominant socio-political ideologies. The contemporary biopolitics seems to be firmly rooted in the mainstream of the postmodern thought. The biopolitics with its multiple varieties always has a certain philosophical anthropology as its foundation. The Catholic Church also has some reasons in using this notion. In many statements of the magisterium the biopolitics is not only just another interpretation of the “politics of life” but also an important antithesis against the contemporary reductionist concepts of the human being and rejection of the objective values.

Opis:
Mechatronics is nowadays a dominating concept in design of various kinds of systems and technical devices. High speeds of data processing by control units of mechatronic systems, as well as high dynamics of their actuators allow the systems to be applied in wider fields. This refers to the medicine as well, especially while making attempts to replace lost human motor abilities by means of robots aiding the man. These devices can be divided into three groups: exoskeletons designed to strengthen the natural force of human muscles, orthotic robots that restore lost or weakened functions of human limbs, and prosthetic robots replacing an amputated limb. The first and the third group are known quite well, whereas the orthotic robots are at an initial phase of their development. The authors have worked on a device for aiding the motion of disabled people suffering from paresis of the lower limbs. The paper presents a concept and a structure of the system that has been created, comparing it with similar devices that have already existed. There are indicated some connections and areas where the subunits merge, as well as the rules of their working with the user.

The ambiguity of understanding and use of the term “human rights” reduces the effectiveness of the law-making and law enforcement activities of state and inter-national bodies, creates negative conditions for the formation of the unified worl-dview and legal position of future lawyers and representatives of other humanities. This article aims to define, formulate the content and describe the legal essence of the term “human rights,” and to substantiate the thesis about the harmfulness of the legal science, law-making and law enforcement use of this term with different meanings. The leading method of research is the method of analysis, which allows one to study the subject, imaginatively dividing it into constituent elements, and to consider each of the selected elements separately within a single whole. This article presents the argumentation of the need for a single wording, understanding, and use of the legal term “human rights.” The materials of the article have practical value for the effective implementation of the law-making and law enforcement activities of state and international bodies, for the formation of the unified worldview and legal position of future lawyers and representatives of other humanities, as well as for a correct and clear explanation of problems with the implemen-tation and protection of human rights.

In this paper the authors attempt to assess to what extent the results of measurements of vehicle dynamics are affected by the driver and to what extent by particular technical solutions. The work was carried out under research and development project no. OR00000911 "Determination of the technical requirements and the equipment necessary in police cars on the basis of tests on model demonstrators" and previous results obtained in tests carried out in the Military Institute of Armored and Automotive Technology (WITPiS).The tests were carried out on the basis of a KIA CEED, currently one of the models most frequently used by the Police.

Opis:
The present essay is devoted to various aspects of the misery of the human condition and their references to religion, as conceived of by Leszek Kołakowski and Józef Tischner. After a preliminary presentation of the two thinkers, the author discusses example aspects of the misery in question, showing at what points Kołakowski’s thinking differed from that of Tischner. However, the author finds that the key issue is the evolution that took place in the views on this subject in each one of them. This evolution shows that Kołakowski’s and Tischner’s hopes for overcoming that which each one of them, in his own manner, understood as the misery of the human condition in the Polish localness were not fulfilled. Thus, Poles did not manage to attain universalism, as perceived by both the thinkers in the context of the Western European culture. This finding, however, involves a question about what in the contemporary culture, and particularly religion is local, and what is universal.

The Aristotelian and thomistic conception of magnanimity (magnanimitas) has grown on the grounds of the philosophical understanding of high culture in man. It was preceded by the appearance of such concepts as paidéia and kaloka gathía. Having ethical excellence (kalokagathía) is an indispensable condition for selfworth and justified pride, called by Aristotle magnanimity. For Aristotle, magnanimity was a typical virtue of the group of valor, in which striving for the good connected with difficulties is significant. Greek culture in antiquity, whose ideals were focused on the term paidéia, had a significant impact on the thought and culture of early Christianity, which grew on Hellenistic grounds. We will see St. thomas’ conception of magnanimity by analyzing his reflections on virtue as he listed it among the ingredients of the virtue of valor. Considerations of magnanimity can be combined with the explanation of what is high culture in man. The realistic concept of a person revealed that—because of transcendence—the ultimate goal, the end of human cognition and love is perfection. Such an under standing of holiness is synonymous with the highest development of the human person, meaning the state of man that is fully perfect. Man reaches the peak of his development potential, the highest level of culture, when he is united with God.

Opis:
Because the topic is complex, the representatives of various scientific disciples have taken up the question of the corporeality of the human person. For example, biological and medical science researchers analyze the human body as a biological phenomenon, while those in the humanities, philosophy, or the social sciences consider the socio-cultural dimensions of corporeality. This article takes the latter approach both by considering the thoughts of select Christian philosophers and analyzing results obtained from a study carried out among people aged 60 years and older in order to answer the following questions: Do the elderly perceive the human body as a biological or as a sociocultural reality? How does this same population understand the aging body? According to the results of this study, seniors perceive the human body at any age primarily as a biological reality. The way that the study participants experience the drama of aging, as St. Augustine calls it in his writings, could have influenced why they rarely consider the sociocultural dimension of aging.
Cielesność człowieka to zagadnienie podejmowane współcześnie przez przedstawicieli różnych dyscyplin naukowych. Wynika to przede wszystkim z ogromnej złożoności tematu.

Forms of support for Roma in Poland coming from the European Union revolve mainly around the projects under the Human Capital Operational Programme and on the basis of the Community Initiative Equal Programme. Among the realized projects the special place is occupied by these concerned with the fight against unemployment and with the support of education among the Roma minority. The projects, implemented throughout the years, provide a chance to change the perception of the Roma minority by the society. For the opportunity to participate in a holistic educational process and open access to the labour market seem to be the only way to improve the existing living standards. The advantage of the projects which certainly cannot be overlooked is the fact that the proposed aid enables a change in living conditions of entire Roma families, while respecting their culture, customs and traditions. For only in this way an improvement of the living conditions of the Roma people and a gradual integration with the rest of the society are possible.

In the introduction we emphasize the current importance of the problems discussed in the paper, i.e. natural law, as provided by the original interpreter of St. Thomas Aquinas' thought, Josef Pieper. The German thinker did not consider this matter in a separate tract, but within the frameworks of his analyses on the virtue of justice. Nevertheless they sound innovative in the context of the contemporary discussion on the attitude of justice and human rights. The modern thought saw a characteristic change in the understanding of the above problem. It is otherwise than in classical tradition. Here justice is determined in the first place not by the domain of duties and the rights of other people, but by the demand of rights to which we are entitled. In his independent interpretation of classical thought, especially that of St. Thomas Aquinas, Pieper reminds the contemporary philosophers of law that the problems of justice and human rights may be thoroughly depicted only by way of their reference to the principles of natural law. Thereby in our argumentation we must refer ourselves to reality that is in the centre of natural law, i.e. the human person, understood as a created being. Only in this way can we indicate the ultimate foundation of why and in what sense we may speak about the laws and rights of man. The final aspect deals with the fruits of justice in social life because their ultimate source is in natural law.
