    The presented article contains the results of macroscopic analysis of plant remains (fruit, seeds and wood), deposited on the site of the Tarnobrzeg group of the Lusatian culture in Grabowiec, site 1/50/105-85 AZP, commune Radymno. All the discussed pieces remained in a burnt condition. They represented few residues of Einkorn wheat cereals Triticum monococcum, spelt Triticum spelta and proso millet Panicum miliaceum. In the group of wild herbal species there was recorded the presence of plants related today with arable fields (Bromus secalinus, Thlaspi arvense and Galium spurium) or field and ruderal habitats (Chenopodium album). The most strongly represented were the remains of trees and shrubs. On their basis Carpinus betulus, Fraxinus excelsior, Pinus sylvestris, Acer, Alnus, Betula, Quercus and Ulmus were marked. The composition of the anthracologic spectrum suggests that in the neighbourhood of the site forests in the type of today’s broadleaved forest developed (oak, hornbeam involving maple and lime) and riparian forests (ash and alder).

    In the seasons 2003 and 2004 rescue excavations at site no. 3 in Lipnik were carried out. Several features related to multiphase settlement from the Iron Age were revealed. The oldest discovered features are possibly associated with late-stage of the Tarnobrzeg Group. The next phase of the occupation represent remains of two semi-dugouts, which can be dated at the late La Tène Period. These features are the first traces of permanent presence of La Tène Culture communities in the loess plateau of Rzeszów Foothills. Most of the discovered structures can be tied with a large settlement from the Younger and the Late Roman Period. These are remains of both residential and economic structures. Of particular interest is the deep storage pit containing remains of two children, and deposited above burned remains of a man. Similar objects (interpreted as a form of graves) are known from Dacian cultural complex in the Carpathian Basin. Southern relationships are also confirmed by part of the artefacts discovered during research (e.g. the wheel-made amphora).

    In August 2006, a site 85 in Markowa has been excavated. The cause to undertake the research at the site was recording traces of damaged feature from the late Bronze Age during control survey, in the spring of 2004. The research aimed to identify background settlement of the Tarnobrzeg group large cemetery, located on the adjacent site no. 5 in Lipnik, Przeworsk District. Within the survey trench (138 sq. m) 20 prehistoric features were discovered. Most of them were pits from different stages of the Tarnobrzeg group development. A circular groove of a diameter of 7-8 m and a width of up to about 20 cm is probably related with the same unit. Two objects, distinct from the Tarnobrzeg group ones due to larger size, are younger. Based on pottery found there, they can be attributed to phase B2 or C1 of the Roman period.

    Site no. 8 at Sufczyce is located within the Połaniec Hills (the subregion of Nida Basin), just above the Wschodnia River flood terrace. It was recorded during the surface surveys in 1992. The research conducted in 2005 confirmed the site as a settlement of the Lusatian culture. The characteristic fragments of pottery can be applied mostly to the Tarnobrzeg group of the Lusatian culture. Flint artefacts are connected with splinered (84%) and flake technique (16%). Most of the tools were made by flake technique (7 retouched flakes, one perforator, one end-scraper), whereas only one too (perforator) was made by splintered technique. There are also stone artefacts: the polisher, querns and grinders. Settlement pits were also discovered. The site is dated at the Hallstatt D period, i.e. the third phase of the Tarnobrzeg group. This means that the settlement at Sufczyce should be regarded as further evidence of the extensive penetration of its settlement from the San basin to the west, which took place at the end of the Hallstatt period.

    Research in the years 2004 - 2006 covered an area of 1770.5 sq. meters and yielded more than 125 objects containing material (nos 310, 424 -549), and about 70 structures distinguished only on the basis of a different color. With the Trzciniec Culture settlement a dozen or so of pits and post-holes can be connected. Approx. 50 urn graves damaged and one pit grave should be ascribed mainly to the early and middle phases of the Tarnobrzeg Group. After nine seasons of work, a total examined area amounts to about 44 ares. The subsequent phases of the use of this site are mirrored by grave of the Mierzanowice Culture (no. 303), 70 pits and about 40 post-holes related to the settlement of the Trzciniec Culture and, finally, more than 370 graves and about 50 clusters of pottery and burned human bones (remains of destroyed graves? ) of all phases of the Tarnobrzeg Group. The cemetery can be considered as fully investigated.
