The purpose of the study was to determine the optimal hearing aid fitting procedure for a patient with well diagnosed high-frequency dead regions in both cochleas. The patient reported non-symmetrical hearing problems of sensorineural origin. The presence and frequency limits of dead regions was measured using the Threshold Equalizing Noise test (TEN). For binaural amplification four pairs of hearing aids were used. Three pairs of hearing instruments used were independent pairs with similar hearing aids in each pair. One pair of hearing aids was a pair of dependent devices with an ear-to-ear function. Two fitting methods were used: DSLi/o and NAL-NL1 and four different strategies of fitting were tested: the initial fitting based on the DSLi/o or NAL-NL1 method with necessary loudness corrections, the second fitting taking into account all available functions of hearing instruments, the third fitting (based on the second one) but with significantly reduced amplification well above one octave of frequency inside dead region and the final fitting with significantly reduced gain slightly below one octave inside dead regions. The results of hearing aids fitting were assessed using the Abbreviated Profile of Hearing Aid Benefit procedure (APHAB).

Opis:
Literature and its position in curricula within translation studies (TS) study programmes has always been a source of heated debates. This paper zooms in on proposing an integrated approach to teaching literature for TS trainees based on combining a linguistic, literary and cultural analysis. Its aim is to outline methodological considerations, give recommendations for future teaching practice and provide the TS-minded community with a possible didactic inspiration on the basis of the author’s advocated approach. Part of this paper is also an empirical analysis from the perspective of the proposed integrated approach based on a selected case study of Christopher Marlowe’s Act I from his play The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus in order to substantiate its relevance. The analysis shows how a literary text comes to convey its meaning thanks to a combination of threefold interpretative insights.
Literatura i jej miejsce w treściach programowych translatoryki (TS) zawsze były źródłem gorącej debaty. Niniejszy artykuł skupia się na propozycji zintegrowanego podejścia do nauczania literatury adeptów translatoryki (TS), bazując na połączeniu analizy z zakresu językoznawstwa, literatury i kultury. Celem jej jest podkreślenie wagi rozważań metodologicznych, udzielenie wskazówek co do dalszej praktyki nauczania oraz dostarczenie translatorsko ukierunkowanej społeczności oczekiwanych inspiracji wynikających z proponowanego przez autorkę podejścia. Częścią niniejszej pracy jest także analiza empiryczna prowadzona, z perspektywy proponowanego podejścia zintegrowanego oparta na studium Aktu I sztuki Christophera Marlowa Tragiczna historia doktora Fausta, po to, aby ukazać jej zasadność. Analiza ta ukazuje jak tekst literacki przekazuje zawarte w nim treści dzięki troistej kombinacji czynników interpretacyjnych.

The article presents investigation of flow around wing of TS-11 Iskra airplane. The flow visualization around 3D printed model of wing with flow control surfaces was performed in a water tunnel. Two configurations were investigated: first with a flap and second with an aileron. The flow visualisation was performed with a use of a dye. The geometry of model was prepared with use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software basing on scans of real object and technical documentation. The model was built with use of additive manufacturing technology. Movement of the flow control surfaces was remotely controlled with servomechanisms incorporated in channels inside the model. In order to perform qualitative validation of the results the investigated flow was simulated with use of CFD commercial software. The article presents visualisation results of flow around wing section of TS-11 Iskra airplane and water tunnel model preparation. In order to perform qualitative validation of the results the investigated flow was simulated with use of CFD commercial software. The goal of the research was to investigate the complex flow field in the vicinity of flow control surfaces and provide aerodynamic characteristics at various deployment angles via numerical simulations. The results can be used for verification of water tunnel testing procedures and training.

The aim of this paper is to examine the role of the tree depictions in T.S. Eliot’s poetry and to demonstrate the way they enrich interpretations of particular poems. In every culture the tree symbolizes similar notions such as life or rebirth. Yet, different tree species have been believed to possess certain properties and sometimes even personalities – this knowledge is passed on through cultural transmission and thus may linger on the edges of one’s consciousness. This seems also true for T.S. Eliot and the symbolism of the trees appearing in his poetry. Despite the fact that they tend to be presented either as a background or the scenery for the lyrical situation, one should not assume that they were chosen accidentally – especially given the purposefulness and rich symbolism of Eliot’s writings. For this reason, the analysis of tree depictions in Eliot’s selected poems reveals new aspects of interpretations, drawing attention to the connection between the author and the culture he was rooted in.

The novel hydrophilic back-extraction agent TS-BTPhen (3,3',3'',3'''-[3-(1,10-phenanthroline-2,9- -diyl)-1,2,4-triazine-5,5,6,6-tetrayl]tetrabenzenesulfonic acid) was tested for its selectivity towards Am(III) over Cm(III) and Eu(III) with a TODGA (N,N,N',N'-tetraoctyldiglycolamide) based solvent. Batch experiments were carried out using TS-BTPhen dissolved in aqueous nitric acid solution with tracers of 152Eu, 241Am and 244Cm. A signifi cant increase of the separation factor for Cm over Am from SFCm/Am = 1.6 up to SFCm/Am = 3.3 was observed compared to the use of a TODGA-nitric acid system alone. Furthermore, stripping was possible at high nitric acid concentrations (0.6–0.7 mol/L) resulting in a low sensitivity to acidity changes. The infl uence of the TS-BTPhen concentration was analyzed. A slope of –2 was expected taking into account literature stoichiometries of the lipophilic analogue CyMe4BTPhen. However, a slope of –1 was found. Batch stripping kinetics showed fast kinetics for the trivalent actinides. As an alternative organic ligand the methylated TODGA derivate Me-TODGA (2-methyl-N,N,N',N'-tetraoctyldiglycolamide) was tested in combination with the hydrophilic TS-BTPhen. The Am(III) separation was achieved at even higher nitric acid concentrations compared to TODGA.

A field experiment to assess the response of soybean to the application of TS series stimulators was set up as complete blocks design with four replications. The investigated factor was growth stimulators (seed dressing – TS Osivo and foliar – TS Samson) produced by the Czech company BEIDEA s.r.o., com-pared to the control (without a stimulator). The reason behind the study was the lack of domestic reports regarding the impact of the use of TS series stimulators on the growth, development and morphological agronomic traits and yields of legume crops. The field trials were carried out in 2018–2019 at the Research Station operated by the Institute of Agroecology and Plant Production, Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences, located in the district of Wrocław – Pawłowice (Dolnośląskie voivode-ship). The tested crop was soybean, cultivar Abelina (maturity group 000 ++, breeder Saatbau Linz).Soybean seed dressing with TS Osivo stimulator caused an acceleration of germination and emergence phases from 2 to 4 days compared to the control treat-ment (water). The use of TS series stimulators in soybean culti-vation contributed, in comparison to the control, to a significant increase (by 7.5%) in the plant height before harvest. Simultane-ously, an increase in the height of first pod was observed, which reduces seed losses during harvest. Seed treatment with the TS Osivo stimulator increased seed yield by 5.8% compared to con-trol treatment (without application). Spraying soybean with TS Samson stimulator increased the seed yield by 8.6%. In practice, in order to achieve an increase in soybean seed yield it is recom-mended to apply pre-sowing seed treatment with TS Osivo stimu-lator or foliar application of TS Samson.

Introduction and aim. Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome (PIMS-TS) is a new condition that has emerged in children during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many clinical signs and symptoms resemble those found in Kawasaki disease (KD). Material and methods. The following data were considered: clinical presentation, comorbidities, laboratory findings, abnormalities in additional tests, exposure to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in the child and his family members, applied treatment and return to full health. Results. In the presented study nineteen children were analyzed. Fever was a universal finding in our group and it’s mean duration was 7 days (range 5-9). Other common symptoms included abdominal pain and severe weakness (in 89.5%), rash and conjunctivitis (in 84.2%), vomiting (in 73.7%) and mucous membrane involvement (in 63.2%). In nearly half of cases, echocardiography revealed fluid in the pericardial sac and left ventricular systolic dysfunction (in 52.6% and 47.4% respectively). 21.1% of patients had coronary artery abnormalities. 26,3% of the children required treatment with dopamine and/or milrinone. In 15.7% ICU admissions and assisted ventilation was necessary. No deaths were recorded. Conclusion. One should bear in mind that PIMS-TS can mimic KD, appendicitis and meningitis, which may pose a diagnostic challenge.

This paper looks at the unfailing vocation and the voracious passion to grasp the world that bring together Czeslaw Milosz and T.S. Eliot, two of the greatest poets of the 20th century. Eliot wrote Four Quartets, his undisputable masterpiece, at a time of historical upheaval during the Second World War. Milosz wrote his sequence of poems entitled “The World: A Naïve Poem” during the Nazi occupation of Warsaw in 1944. Thus, war was the unexpected witness to the birth of two poetical works of lasting value. Both sequence of poems are a moving and deep meditation on being, but also a pristine look at the world with its welcome mysteries and perfections. Milosz translated the crucial text of High Modernism, Eliot’s The Waste Land, into Polish in Nazioccupied Warsaw, and later he got to read and translate Burnt Norton, the first of the Four Quartets. Both Eliot and Milosz are poets that share the same intellectual lucidity when it comes to unveiling the intricate subtleties of the human condition, with all its contradictions, lights and shadows. This paper explores the essential aesthetic affinities shared by both giants of the Western canon.
