Opis:
New data about the structure of high-temperature resistant metalloceramic plasma sprayed coatings in micro and nano areas are presented. Application of the new instrumental methods: transmission electron microscopy combined with selected area electron diffraction made it possible to obtain these data. The first layer in Ni based metallic bondcoat shows nanocrystalline structure. External ceramic layer based on stabilised ZrO$\text{}_{2}$ is polycrystalline and contains both cubic and tetragonal crystalline phases. Local inhomogeneities in coatings phase composition are determined.

Opis:
A new method for the determination of pressure-interatomic separation-temperature relationship is investigated and applied for some alkali halides. The method is developed by using the Mie-Gruneisen equation of state and the Anderson thermal pressure and an ionic model based on Harrison's treatment of overlap repulsive potential which takes into account the interactions up to second neighbors. It is found that the new method yields satisfactory results in agreement with the available experimental data.

Coatings deposited by plasma spraying technology are studied with the use of X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy combined with electron diffraction methods. Opis:
In this paper the studies of phase transitions in some material compositions based on Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$ caused by high-temperature processes are presented. These material compositions may be used to high-temperature resistant plasma sprayed coatings. The occurring phase transitions are studied by X-ray diffraction methods. Phase transitions and thermal resistance for studied oxide systems are different. In the coatings from the materials belonging to Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$-NiO and Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$- ZrO$\text{}_{2}$ systems complex phase transitions were observed. More resistant to the conditions of thermal fatigue are coatings containing aluminum titanate Al$\text{}_{2}$TiO$\text{}_{5}$ and mullite 3 Al$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$-2 SiO$\text{}_{2}$.

Opis:
This article describes a noise reduction method applied in the German-speaking realm in Europe, the so-called Tempo 30 (T30) restriction that limits vehicular speed to 30 km per hour, and differentiates between T30 arrangements and T30 Zones in Germany. Further, it analyses the expected levels of noise reduction, possible improvements in air quality, decrease in accident casualties, and levels of citizen acceptance and awareness of T30 regulation. It does so based on data from literature research and face-to-face interviews with Berlin residents. Further, it looks at the discussion for and against T30 and discusses the possible transfer of T30 policies and practices beyond the German speaking area, in particular to Bulgaria.

Opis:
The $Zn_{1-x}Cd_xO$ ternary alloys with a narrow band gap, which are useful for light emitters in the visible wavelengths, are studied with respect to the unsteady region in mixing. This unstable region in mixing is calculated from the free energy of mixing using the strictly regular solution model. The interaction parameter used in this calculation is obtained by means of the valence-force-field model. An influence of the strain energy induced by substrate on the region of the spinodal decomposition for the $Zn_{1-x}Cd_xO$ system is studied and discussed.

Bimetal composites are a group of promising engineering materials with high developing and service potential. Especially in many fields they can be a powerful low cost alternative to metal-ceramic composites. The most commonly encountered type of these composites is steel reinforced aluminium matrix composites which stand out with high wear and abrasion resistance. Significant fabrication processes of metal/metal composites are based on liquid metal techniques. In this study, Al/steel composite specimens were produced by using vacuum assisted solid mould investment casting technique. A7075 wrought aluminium alloy were infiltrated into steel preforms, which were produced with 304 stainless steel and H13 hot-work tool steel turnings, in the plaster based solid investment casting moulds. Microstructure observations, HV microhardness measurements, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis were carried out for characterization.

Opis:
We report the results of low-temperature specific-heat, magnetization, and X-ray diffraction measurements on a bismuth oxyhalide (BiOCl) single crystal. We conclude that BiOCl in temperature region 150-230 K shows "antiferroelastic-paraelectric" phase transitions at critical temperatures $T_{c1}$ = 167.5 K and $T_{c2}$ = 214.6 K, respectively.

The phase diagram of the binary water/Brij58 system has been studied at constant temperature T = 20°C first by simple optical observation and then by small angle X-ray scattering. The small angle X-ray scattering patterns in the isotropic diluted phase are analyzed in a quantitative way by refining the experimental measurements with a model assuming hard spherical micelles in interaction. The micelles are described by a poly dispersed core-shell model and the interaction by the Perkus-Yevick hard-sphere model. The fitted parameters are analyzed in detail to determine the way polyoxyethylene blocks are hydrated with respect to the volumic fraction of water. In the more concentrated regime, the crystalline phases that are identified are the Fm3m cubic, the 2D hexagonal and the lamellar phases. The structural parameters that describe each phases are analyzed and commented. The small angle X-ray scattering study is complemented by the determination of the temperature dependent liquid-solid transition by rheology.

The Ga$\text{}_{1-x}$Al$\text{}_{x}$As sample of x=0.5 was prepared from a high quality single crystal grown by electroepitaxy on GaAs. The high-pressure diffraction experiments were performed using a diamond anvil cell and a germanium solid state detector. The zinc-blende phase is stable up to about 17.5 GPa on uploading. A high-pressure phase manifests itself at about 17 GPa, a complete phase change occurs at 18.7 GPa. On downloading, the zinc-blende phase reappears at about 10 GPa. The powder pattern of the high-pressure phase shows some similarities with the GaAs high pressure phases.

Opis:
The pseudo-cubic lattice parameters of rare-earth (RE) scandate, $REScO_3$, single crystals grown by the Czochralski technique with RE = Dy to Pr lie between about 3.95 and 4.02 Å. These crystals are the only available perovskite substrates in this lattice constant range that can withstand virtually any thin film growth conditions. Two members of this series, $PmScO_3$ and $EuScO_3$, are, however, not suitable for substrate applications. Because the pseudo-cubic lattice parameters between neighbouring $REScO_3$ compounds decrease with rising atomic number of the RE in about 0.01 Å steps, the unsuitability of $PmScO_3$ (radioactivity) and $EuScO_3$ (incompatibility with Si) causes an interruption in this lattice spacing sequence. To replace them, solid solutions of their adjacent rare-earth scandates, i.e., $(Nd_{0.5}Sm_{0.5})ScO_3$ and $(Sm_{0.5}Gd_{0.5})ScO_3$, were grown by the Czochralski method. Their average pseudo-cubic lattice parameters of 3.9979 Å and 3.9784 Å are very close to those of $PmScO_3$ and $EuScO_3$, respectively, and they show very low segregation. These qualities make these solid solutions excellent substitutes for $PmScO_3$ and $EuScO_3$.

In this paper, a new isothermal equation of state is developed based on an approximation for the volume dependence of the Anderson-Grüneisen parameter $δ_T$ along isotherm. The values of interatomic separation r with the change of pressure for nine alkali halides and periclase were investigated with the help of the new isotherm equation of state. The compression data are used to predict the pressure dependence of the coefficient of volume thermal expansion. The results are compared with the available experimental data and other theoretical results.

Opis:
A short review of literature and the authors' experimental results for the pretransitional behavior in the isotropic phase of nematogens is given. The paper also presents new results of non-linear dielectric effect and dielectric permittivity measurements in the broad temperature range. Results obtained show significant advantages of non-linear dielectric effect and dielectric permittivity for studying pretransitional properties in liquid crystalline materials. The paper contains a comprehensive comparison of the experiment with predictions of the mean-field model and the fluid-like description. The presented analysis strongly supports the image of the isotropic phase as a complex liquid resulting from vicinity of the fluid-like, "nematic-isotropic", critical point.

High pressure - high temperature experiments for MnTe of NiAs type were performed using a synchrotron radiation as X-ray source and a cubic anvil X-ray diffraction press to produce nonambient sample environment. In the investigated range of pressure (0-67.5 kbar) on uploading and with following temperature rise from 296 to 1273 K (at 67.5 kbar), the structure type of MnTe is conserved. An earlier reported nonlinear behaviour of lattice-parameter c$\text{}_{0}$ is not found in the present study. Possible reasons of this discrepancy are discussed. The value of bulk modulus and its pressure derivative were calculated from the pressure-volume dependence by fitting the Birch-Murnaghan equation.

In this study the determinations of melt quality was carried out by thermal analysis of ductile iron. The aim of the study was to determine the limits of feederless casting after the determination of inoculation quality in cast iron. Production method of pouring into a sand mold in the entirety and without using feeder systems has been investigated. Forms of the solidification and volume change have been investigated with simulation program as functions of inoculation quality, type of resin in the mold and mold rigidity. Results of the analysis have been compared with the results of experimental iron casting.
