Opis:
The subject of this paper is to attempt to assess the legal regulation relating to the conservation of the resources, formations and elements of the nature in the agricultural activity carried out in the areas covered by one of the forms of the nature conservation. The analysis of the Nature Conservation Act of 2004 demonstrates that the legislature put in place a few limitations of the agricultural activity, related to the use of resources and elements of nature in the valuable areas due to the natural values. The scope of the prohibitions and restrictions laid down in the specific form of nature conservation depends on its objectives and functions. The subject of the analysis was the legal term “rational agriculture” with respect to the intended sustainable use of the natural resources. In the present Act, one claimed lack of specific instruments introducing requirement or even encouraging the making, in areas covered by conservation area, including agricultural activities, which helps to maintain high nature value. Ordering the terminology and adapting it to modern concepts of environmental protection, regulation of forest management, it would be time to replace the term “rational agriculture” to “sustainable agriculture”, referring to the modern concept of sustainable socio–economic development, the needs of environmental protection. It should be more precisely defined in relation to the term of the existing legal standards for environmental protection in agricultural activities, such as cross–compliance requirements. Regardless of the adopted terminology the legal term rational or sustainable farming should be referenced to the cross compliance requirements.

Subject and purpose of work: Community Empowerment in Sustainable Agricultural Development and CSR (Study of spice farmers in Maluku Utara). One of the duties of the nation is to facilitate prosperity for its citizens through development. Such development is pursued by the government to reach economic growth by utilizing all agriculture potentials and by organizing community development. Materials and methods: In this study, the goals are to identify, describe and analyze the empowerment of the spice farmers’ community in Maluku Utara in sustainable agricultural development and CSR. This study is descriptive in nature and uses the qualitative approach, while data analysis relies on the Creswell’s model. Maluku Utara has a resource potential that is needed for sustainable agriculture development and CSR for community welfare. Results: Through empowerment, which involves several stages, such as enlightenment, capacity building, and enforcement, it is possible to improve awareness, capacity, skill and strength of the community to exploit all potentials. The support given to the spice farmers’ community in sustainable agriculture development and CSR is not at the maximum. Despite this support, there are factors constraining community empowerment in sustainable agriculture development and CSR. Conclusions: These constraints may come from community, a very low number of agriculture counselors, natural resource inadequacy, and also weather factors at Maluku Utara, all of which hamper the empowerment process.

Opis:
The paper reviews the concept of sustainable development, indicating its various dimensions. Natural environment in developed countries became almost entirely anthropogenic. Under such conditions, the way of using natural resources has to change as well. It is forced by the new needs and priorities described above, i.e. a demand for an assurance concerning renewability of natural resources as well as pro-social and pro-environmental criteria of the resources allocation. The fundamental objective of the paper is an attempt at elaboration of the new land rent concept and fi nd the answer to the question: Does a land need capital stimulus to be productive in a sustainable development? Authors formulated the hypothesis: the reason for the land rent to occur are intrinsic land utilities which in the commodity money economy cause the expected productivity of capital factor in agriculture to be higher than in its market environment. Therefore, the value of land rent is determined by a positive difference between the expected productivity of capital in agriculture and in its market environment.

The aim of this article is to indicate the features of contemporary urban agriculture present in the contiguously built-up areas of Havana. Using an exploratory and classification approach, the authors draw on fieldwork and a prior analysis of satellite and aerial imagery, first to characterize the spatial distribution of urban gardens and then to point to their main intrinsic features, including the methods and organization of production and the functions performed. The research conducted shows that urban agriculture is distributed across the city in an uneven fashion, with the main concentration in districts of lower-density urban construction, which reflects the availability of land resources intentionally left between buildings by modernist planners. The most common production technique applied is organopónico, or organoponics. However, the material commonly used to construct the bordering walls is asbestos, which may pose a significant threat for both producers and consumers. Two case studies are analyzed to exemplify different approaches to organic food production.

Subject and purpose work: The study analysed the role of women in the development of the rural areas of the municipality of Skenderaj and its agriculture. Despite the fact that the women in agriculture in this municipality are highly influential and contribute to its economic development, gender equality in the area is not at the desired level. Materials and methods: The study is based on primary and secondary sources and it aims to describe the state of the women’s rural society in the municipality of Skenderaj and the women’s role in decisionmaking at the local and national levels. Results: The results of this study show that in the Government of the Republic of Kosovo gives priority to women farmers in its agricultural policies. The support could be seen as the offer of good employment opportunities since women are the most vulnerable part of society in Kosovo. Furthermore, the support given to the women engaged in agriculture will help the agricultural sector to improve productivity, efficiency, and efficacy through a better and faster connection of producers with the market. It will also help to promote a new way of monitoring and ensuring thar agricultural products are in compliance with the set standards. Conclusions: The study confirms that the women in the municipality of Skendraj make substantial contributions to agriculture and rural enterprises. There is a wide diversity in women roles and any overgeneralisation undermines the importance and planning of policies.

The practice of homestead vegetable gardening has gained importance due to the increasing rate of rural poverty in developing countries. Keyhole garden is not yet a particularly common variant of home gardens but it is becoming popular globally in both developing and developed countries due to its unique benefits related to sustainable farming practices. The main objective of the study is to determine factors that influence the food security of rural farmers in Lesotho utilising keyhole gardeners in Leribe district in Lesotho. The study used a purposive sampling method to select a sample of 110 respondents. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression models were used for data analysis. The majority of households (65.45%) never skipped a meal and were food secure however, 27.27% sometimes skipped meals, and 7% skipped meals frequently. The study findings indicated that keyhole gardens influence food security since they boost food supplies, generate income and help in the reduction of food bills. The results of the study showed that age (p < 0.01), marital status (p < 0.05), household size (p < 0.10), market information (p < 0.05), donations (p < 0.01) and access to inputs (p < 0.01) influence the food security of keyhole garden farmers in the study area. The study recommends that agriculture civil service workers should receive training on keyhole gardens so that they can transfer the knowledge and skills to rural farmers to increase the awareness of, and the participation in, keyhole gardening and ultimately influence household food security.

This paper presents an overview of the literature research on the benefits of biocarbon (biochar) as an important part of sustainable agriculture and carbon farming. The main objective was to familiarise the reader with the literature findings on the effects of biocarbon application on the environment, soil, soil organic mater, soil microorganisms, and impact on crop yields. On the basis of the research presented, it can be concluded that the incorporation of biocarbon into the soil generally has a positive effect on soil fertility, but that proper application is required (mainly its application together with fertilization). The quality, properties, and agricultural usefulness of the biochar depend on the raw material that has been subjected to the pyrolysis process, as well as the temperature and time of. The findings of the paper are based on the literature review on the subject.

Opis:
Berseem clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L.) is one of the most important forage crops in Iran. In order to determine yield, yield components and qualitative characteristics of two cultivars of berseem clover in low input nitrogen farming in 2015 and 2016, two factor randomized complete block design with split plot combined analysis over time and four replications was used in Isfahan, Iran. The cultivars were Sacronomt and Multicut, and the nitrogen application levels were 10, 40 and 70 kg ha-1. Herein, higher values of plant height, total fresh yield, total dry yield, nitrate, protein, organic matter and ash were seen in 2015, yet, higher phosphorous, potassium, Fe, Mn, Zn and Cu were evident in 2016. Moreover, Sacromont cultivar generated higher values of total fresh yield, total dry yield and Fe, while higher values of plant height, nitrate, protein, phosphorous, potassium, organic matter, ash, Mn, Zn and Cu were noted in Multicut. Increasing the nitrogen fertilizer application rate from 10 to 70 kg N ha-1 resulted in numerically increased plant height, total fresh and dry yield. Maximum nitrate, protein, potassium, organic matter, ash and Zn levels were obtained in an application of 70 kg N ha-1. Over all, nitrate concentration in the crop increased step by step with the addition of nitrogen fertilizer. However, the highest values of phosphorous, Mn and Cu were achieved in an application of 40 kg N ha-1. Nitrogen fertilizer management is, thus, one of the most important inputs in achieving high productivity and yield of berseem clover. The appropriate management of nitrogen is, therefore, important in cropping systems and a balance between applied levels is essential for normal plant growth and human consumption. All in all, both forage crop production and quality is vital for successful animal production in sustainable agriculture systems. On the basis of the results of this study, it could be concluded that application of 70 kg N ha-1 is good for both cultivars.

According to many experts, the water crisis will be one of the most important challenges in the coming years on the planet. Watershed management is one of the most effective ways to conserve rainwater and develop water resources. The purpose of the study was to obtain a model of critical land management in the Welang watershed area. This study uses a dynamic systems approach based on a causal philosophy (cause and effect) through a deep understanding of how a system works. The parameters used are based on sustainable agriculture in terms of physical sustainability aspects/critical land from erosion factor indicators. Model validation is done by comparing the behaviour of the model with a natural system (quantitive behaviour pattern comparison), namely the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) Middle-Value Test. Modelling is supported by Powersim Studio Express Software ver. 10. The results show that the physical sustainability model/critical land using a simulation scenario of 25% erosion control funds shows a trend of increasing production land area and tackled land area followed by a decrease in annual erosion weight. The economic sustainability model obtained results at the end of the projected year showing farm revenues IDR 63,591,396 (USD1 ≈ IDR14.27 thous. in average in 2021). This means that the higher the acceptance value, the farming can provide economic welfare for farmers.

Opis:
The objective is to provide a systematization of concepts connected with sustainable development of agriculture (SDA) as the basis for indication of directions of changes in Polish agriculture. The author applied descriptive and comparative analyses based on a survey of the literature to indicate the differences between the described concepts. Both sustainable agricultural and rural development (SARD) and multifunctional rural development (MRD) could be connected with reduced agricultural production, which would bring positive and negative environmental consequences. The multifunctional agriculture cannot exist without production, so it is more favourable for SD, however it should be based on environmental requirements. Then it is close to sustainable agriculture. Considering these concepts, the author formulated and used his own definition of the SDA and its objectives. The sensitive rule of sustainability with secured critical natural capital is the proper one for agriculture in Poland. Currently, Polish agriculture is in dual development (industrialisation and sustainable transition). For the SDA, the support for agriculture should be conditioned by compliance with basic environmental standards and by provision of public goods. It depends on properly directed and effectively implemented environmental and economic measures of the CAP.

Sustainable Agriculture innovations include least soil unsettling influence, lasting soil cover through yield deposits or cover harvests, and yield revolutions for accomplishing higher profitability. In India, endeavors to create refine and scatter preservation based farming advancements have been in progress for almost two decades and gained huge ground from that point forward despite the fact that there are a few imperatives that influence Sustainable Agriculture. Especially, huge endeavors have been made on no-till in wheat under a rice-wheat pivot in the Indo-Gangetic fields.
