Opis:
In this paper, we present basic ideas and perspectives related to the use of fuzzy logic for the derivation of linguistic summaries of data (databases). We concentrate on the issue of how to measure the goodness of a linguistic summary, and on how to embed data summarization within the fuzzy querying environment, for an effective and efficient implementation. In particular, we propose how to efficiently implement Kacprzyk and Yager's (2000) new quality indicators of linguistic summaries to derive summaries via Kacprzyk and Zadrozny's (1994; 1995a; 1995b; 1996) fuzzy querying add-on. Finally, we present an implementation for deriving linguistic summaries of a sales database at a computer retailer, and show how the linguistic summaries obtained can be useful for supporting decisions of the business owner.

All basic components of the water budget of a mature spruce and beech stand in the Orlické Mts are quantified and the results are given in summary tables. Rest periods (November–April) and vegetation seasons (May–October) are evaluated separately. Special attention is paid to the measurement of snow cover and the processes of snow melting in both types of stands.

Opis:
The so-called linguistic summaries of databases are the semi-natural language sentences that enable distilling the most relevant information from large numbers of tuples, and present it in the human consistent forms. Recently, the methods of constructing and evaluating linguistic summaries have been based on Zadeh's fuzzy sets, which represent uncertain data. The main aim of the paper is to enhance and generalize the Yager's approach to linguistic summarization of data. This enhancement is based on interval-valued fuzzy sets. The newly presented methods enable handling fuzzy concepts, whose membership degrees are not given by real values explicitly, but are approximated by intervals in [0,1]. From now on, the Yager's approach can be viewed as a special case of the method presented in this paper. Finally, illustrative examples are presented.

The paper sets out to evaluate the innovativeness of European Union member states and determine Poland’s standing in a league table of EU economies in terms of innovation. The analysis is based on innovation indices reported by the European Commission, specifically the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) for 2004-2008 and the Summary Innovation Index (SII). The author determines the innovation scores of individual countries by calculating a 2004-2008 summary innovation index for EU members using a method based on Z. Hellwig’s development model.The results are compared against those quoted in European Commission reports. The research showed that both the method proposed by the European Commission and the Hellwig development model can be used to measure innovation in EU countries, Stec says. This is confirmed by a high level of correlation between the results as reflected by Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. The author compares Poland with other EU economies in terms of innovation. This comparison reveals that the Polish economy is still at an early stage of innovation, Stec says. In the EIS, Poland was classified among catching-up economies, and in Hellwig’s method it was grouped together with countries with a low level of innovation. The author also analyzes the strengths and weaknesses of the Polish economy in terms of innovation.

Opis:
Z podsumowaniem lingwistycznym, jak i z predykatem rozmytym związana jest wartość prawdy. Możemy więc podsumowań lingwistycznych używać jako predykatów rozmytych. Podsumowanie postaci większość obiektów w populacji P jest podobna do obiektu oi wykorzystać możemy do znajdowania typowych wartości w populacji P, które to wykorzystuje rozmyty algorytm grupujący. Wadą tego algorytmu jest jego duża złożoność obliczeniowa. W celu przetwarzania dużej liczby danych zaimplementowaliśmy ten algorytm równolegle, korzystając ze standardu MPI do komunikacji między procesami działającymi na różnych procesorach. W tej pracy przedstawiamy algorytm równoległy i wyniki eksperymentów.
The linguistic summaries have the associated truth value so they can be used as predicates. We use summaries of the form ”most objects in population P are similar to oi” to find typical values in population P. Then typical values are used in fuzzy clustering algorithm. Disadvantage of this algorithm is its complexity. For the purpose of processing the huge number of data, we decided to use parallel computing mechanism to implement this algorithm, and run it on the cluster machine. We use MPI (Message Passing Interface) to communicate between processes, which work on different processors. This paper presents this parallel algorithm and some results of experiments.

Opis:
This paper is devoted to the Polish translation of the 16th-century work by Justus Lipsius, entitled De Constantia. The translation was made by the Voivod of Vitebsk Andrzej Kazimierz Kryszpin-Kirszensztein in 1698. When studying Kryszpin's documents in the 18th century, Gedeon Jeleński found a manuscript entitled Stateczność umysłu albo Nauka polityczna o statecznej cierpliwości podczas złych czasów [Constancy of the mind or a political lesson in balanced patience during unfavourable times]. As there were no other hints or indications concerning the authorship of the text, it was credited to Kryszpin. Thus, mistakenly recognized as the original, the work was published by Franciszek Bohomolec in 1769. The author of the paper analyses the principles that Kirsztensztein adopted in the introduction to the manuscript, where he presented how difficult it was to write the text and where he argued that writing it was possible owing to his vast expertise in Antique literature. The techniques that Kryszpin used to keep under cover the relationship between his work and its Latin source are discussed, as are the strategies of how Kryszpin deluded the reader into thinking that his thought was original. The paper ends with an appendix containing Kryszpin's foreword to the reader. This text unveils Kryszpin's clear intention to have the text published. The paper also discusses a selection of remarks on Kryszpin's attitude towards the source text. The preliminary analysis ventured by the author seems to indicate that Kryszpin-Kirszensztein's work is a paraphrase, a vast summary, and a descriptive analysis of Lispius's work and that the two works stay in a relatively loose aesthetic and compositional connection. The closest bond between the two texts obtains on the level of main ideas and thoughts.

The article shows different forms of pictorial thinking, particularly emblematic in funeral sermons, an example is Aleksander Dubowicz oration to honour Janusz Skumin Tyszkiewicz. In the funeral compositions from the Tyszkiewicz family, we see testimony of transformations, which take place in the early stages of developmental relationships between emblematic culture and occasional literary output. In the Sermon on funeral B. Naruszewiczówna and in Dispatching Person we find some elements, which determine a record of ornamental contents presented in the occasional funeral ceremony. The sermon to honour Tyszkiewicz fits this particular role; it is a prime example of emblematic construction and the function of inscription. The subscription is the praise of the deceased throughout the sermon by illustrating different roles he played in life. The entire concept of A. Dubowicz sermon is based on world vision as a theatre. He cast God in the role of director and a man as an actor which plays various roles. The orator splits peoples lives like a play, into acts preceded by a prologue and supplemented by an epilogue. In this conceptual world-theatre, A. Dubowicz superimposes a suitable biographical funeral oration schema: “Born gate” serves to display the deceaseds family (leaf B3–Dv); “Youth prologue” characterizes the virtues acquired during the time of education (l. Dv–D4v); “Soldier person” describing courageous service to the king (l. D4v–F); “Senators person” talks about Tyszkiewicz wisdom, which his commitment appears through his affairs of state in the senate and contains laudation to the deceased as learned (l. F–G2); “Epilogue” brings a description of religious death (l. G2–H2), while “Death gate” is a supplement of the allegorical word as theatre (an actor after finishing the spectacle strips of their vestments) and the deceaseds laudatory biography comes to a summary conclusion. Emblematic thinking is shown on various levels: as preachers exemplum, as a central oratorical idea; organizing whole statement structure by reference to the iconic element, which was located before the oration, like in Dispatching Person.The Picture and the Word in Aleksander Dubowiczs Sermon Titled Dispatching Person Commemorating the Figure of Janusz Skumin Tyszkiewicz

Rozpatrzono różne sposoby jej określania w zależności od warunków prowadzenia działań bojowych. Szczegółowo omówiono także sposób określania sumarycznej odchyłki prędkości początkowej sposobem rachunkowym w przypadku posiadania w dywizjonie artylerii różnych partii prochu.
The authors present the issues related to the ballistic preparation of field artillery fires. One of its most significant undertakings is the determination of summary muzzle velocity deviation. There are different ways of its determination depending on combat environment conditions. Moreover, the methods of calculating summary muzzle velocity deviation when there are two different gunpowder lots used are presented.

This article revolves around research into the language of the media with special emphasis placed on a description of the fundamental mechanisms of condensing content in printed and audio and visual media. Condensation is among the basic tools of content accumulation; it is related to simplifying the message, generalization and stylistic deformations. Mechanisms applied to summarize have been identified within various areas, including construing messages and releasing to media as well as modes of organizing the content. Of importance here is the trend of replacing verbal messages with visual messages (tables, photos, information graphics, charts, coverage). While condensation is reflected in media as a communication-related activity strictly functionalized within a message, in its structure (cf. the summarizing role of titles, leads, visualizations), it is also conditioned by genre-related issues (cf. news, previews etc.) and most times results from the broadcaster’s strategic efforts.

Not only has the quantity (i.e. in terms of the extension of the duration of life) become the aim of action on the health plane, but also the qualitative, or extending the duration of lifein good health, which is not accompanied by disability and life activity limitations due to health. To estimate changes in health status of the population, implemented health programs and medical care needed new health measures. Meters beyond the negative indicators on mortality and life expectancy, but also including other dimensions of health status and quality of life related to health. This group of measures is called summary measures of population health and is divided into two main parts: the measure of the health expectancies and measures of health gap. The aim of the article is a presentation and use of selected health summary measures for estimating life expectancy in good health of Polish population against the background of the population of the European Union countries. Data from the Central Statistical Office and the European Statistical System as well as database and publications prepared by the World Health Organization and the United Nations will be a base of empirical analysis.

Opis:
Abstract (sometimes called summary) of a scientific publication is a brief text that contains keywords. It is one of the elements of a bibliographic description in the bibliographic database iSybislaw – a modern information retrieval system. In the paper definitions of terms such as abstract, annotation and summary along with their constitutive elements are presented. A characteristics of such short texts inserted in the iSybislaw database in the fields Abstract and Abstract 2 is also given. Based on some examples excerpted from the iSybislaw system a typology of short texts, which are elements of the database bibliographic description, is proposed. The material allows to list three kinds of texts that are being used in the iSybislaw database: annotations, abstracts and biographic annotations.
Przedmiotem analizy artykułu są krótkie teksty, które stanowią jeden z elementów opisu bibliograficznego w systemie wyszukiwawczym iSybislaw. W praktyce naukowej używane są różne terminy odnoszące się do takich tekstów (abstrakt, adnotacja, streszczenie). Autor podaje ich definicje oraz wskazuje elementy konstytutywne. Na podstawie przykładów wyekscerpowanych z systemu iSybislaw przedstawia ich typologię oraz omawia miejsce i funkcje w opisie bibliograficznym.

V prispevku je analizirano prevajanje književnih citatov v poljskem in italijanskem prevodu slovenskega mladinskega romana "Gimnazijka" Antona Ingoliča. S književnimi citati avtor sooblikuje svoje pripovedovanje (autoreferencialnost), bralca pa tudi informira — s konkretnimi besedilnimi zgledi — o kanonskih avtorjih svetovne (Shakepeare, Molière) in slovenske (Kette, Murn, Gradnik) književnosti (referencialnost). V analiziranih prevodih "Gimnazijke" prihaja pri citatih pogosto do poenostavljanja ciljnega besedila: poljska prevajalka se je za ohranitev citata odločila v treh, italijanski prevajalec pa le v dveh od petih primerov. V obeh prevodih je pogosto tudi poenostavljanje citatnega sobesedila, tudi če je citat ohranjen (poenostavljanje je večje v italijanskem prevodu). Na tak način sta se prevoda oddaljila od slogovne oblikovanosti in vsebinske kompleksnosti izhodiščnega besedila, hkrati pa se je z neupoštevanjem citatov zmanjšala njegova referencialnost (informativno-didaktična dimenzija).
The paper discusses the translation of literary citations in Polish and Italian translations of the Slovenian youth novel "Gimnazijka" by Anton Ingolič. With the help of literary citations the author shapes his narrative (autoreferentiality) and also informs the reader — by using concrete text examples — of the authors included in the canon of world (cf. Shakespeare, Molière) and Slovenian (cf. Kette, Murn, Gradnik) literature (referentiality). In the analyzed translations of "Gimnazijka", text fragments with citations are frequently simplified: Polish translator has opted for preserving three, the Italian only two citations out of five. In both translations the text fragments with citations have been frequently simplified, even if the citation itself is preserved (the summary translation has been used more widely by Italian translator). In such a way, the analyzed translations have not only reduced the stylistic qualities and the content complexity of the source text, but also diminished its referentiality (informative-didactic dimension) by disregarding some of the literary citations.

W części teoretycznej niniejszego artykułu przedstawiono najważniejsze założenia teorii konektywizmu oraz zaprezentowano udział nowych technologii w nowoczesnej edukacji. W części praktycznej natomiast został opisany przebieg projektu – przygotowania skryptu do nauczania języka polskiego jako obcego w Centrum Języka i Kultury Polskiej dla Polonii i Cudzoziemców Uniwersytetu Marii Curie-Skłodowskiej (dalej: CJKP UMCS) w Lublinie na poziomie średnim B2.
In the theoretical part, the article discusses the foundations of the theory of connetivism and presents the use of new technologies in modern education. In the practical part, it presents the process of preparing a summary of course lectures at the B2 level in the Polish Language and Culture Centre for Polish People from Abroad and Foreigners UMCS in Lublin.

In the field of comics studies, which evolved from a mere topic area into a burgeoning field of inquiry at the turn of 1980s and 1990s, the dialogue about meaning in comics was initiated by practicing cartoonists, who proposed new lines of research and introduced serviceable terminology which remains in use even today. These early contributions may have provided a solid basis for the investigation of meaning in comics, but they were repeatedly criticized for their lack of an academic orientation prerequisite for serious-minded comics scholarship. With the onset of the new millennium, it was linguistic theory that came to be called upon with increasing frequency to provide the missing orientation. Recent observers point out that for over a decade linguistics in general, and cognitive linguistics in particular, has informed much of the most insightful comics research. This paper is an attempt to contribute to the intersection of cognitive linguistics and comics scholarship by demonstrating that a number of conceptual metaphors whose linguistic manifestations have been studied in considerable detail facilitate, either separately or jointly, the conceptualization of the main formal unit of comics: the so-called panel. It appears that depending on what individual panels are taken to refer to (events, states, periods of time, visual fields, portions of the world of the story), they are metaphorized in different ways (as objects, containers, windows onto the world of the story), in accordance with a central tenet of conceptual metaphor theory whereby metaphors highlight some aspects of the metaphorized concept and simultaneously hide others. On the one hand, this paper adds to the growing body of research demonstrating that metaphor is a conceptual mechanism which transcends language; on the other, it adds to the dialogue about how comics achieve meaning by discussing the metaphorical underpinnings of the panel, and by framing this discussion in terms of cognitive linguistics, a scholarly tradition with which comics studies have successfully intersected.
