Józefa: litanie, nowenny, szkaplerz, płaszcz, cześć nieustającą, miesiąc ku czci św. Józefa, telegram, różaniec i koronkę, godzinki, akty i oddania, pieśni, akatyst, a także inne modlitwy oraz nabożeństwa: siedmiu boleści i radości, septennę (siedem kolejnych śród), siedmiu niedziel, do Przeczystego Serca (pięciu pierwszych śród miesiąca), do opieki. Artykuł stanowi zachętę do osobistego praktykowania nabożeństwa do św. Józefa dostosowanego do indywidualnych potrzeb wierzących.
The ongoing year of St. Joseph is a great opportunity to have a look at the cult of the Saint in the light of the available prayer books. The article presents the diversity of the cult and discusses various forms of the worship since its beginning. It analyses prayers to St. Joseph such as: the litany, the novena prayer, the Rosary, the Oath, the Morning prayers, the Scapular prayer, the Akathist and other prayers, services and songs in honour of St. Joseph. The aim of the article is to encourage Christians to adapt the cult of St. Joseph to their individual needs.

The matter of this paper is the ethics of masculinity in the contemporary world from the perspective of the figure of St. Joseph. As a “just man” St. Jospeh has been understood in the writings of St. Alphon M. Liguori as a man who posseses all the virtues. Starting from this assertion the autor developes the ethics of masculinity. In the first point is the speach about the masculine form of justice. The next point concerns somes problem with the masculinity in the contemporary world. At the end of this article the author speaks about concrete proposes for the masculinity of our days on the base of the figure of St. Joseph. The paper presents possibility of morality, that abandons the paradigm of control and dominion and embraces the style of sharing and of caring.
Przedmiotem artykułu jest etyka męskości we współczesnym świecie z perspektywy postaci św. Józefa. Jako „mąż sprawiedliwy” św. Józef był rozumiany w pismach św. Alfonsa M. Liguoriego jako człowiek odznaczający się wszystkimi cnotami. Wychodząc od tego stwierdzenia, autor rozwija etykę męskości. Na początku jest mowa o męskiej formie sprawiedliwości. W dalszej kolejności zostały przedstawione problemy z męskością we współczesnym świecie. Na końcu artykułu autor przedstawia konkretne propozycje dla męskości naszych czasów na podstawie postaci św. Józefa. Artykuł prezentuje ujęcie moralności, które odchodzi od paradygmatu kontroli i dominacji i przyjmuje styl współuczestnictwa i zatroskania.

Artykuł ma na celu ukazanie przejawów kultu św. Józefa z Nazaretu jako patrona dobrej śmierci, którego orędownictwa powinni wzywać konający w chwili przejścia z życia doczesnego do wiecznego. Poparcie dla tytułu można znaleźć w teologii, której argumenty upowszechniały dzieła kaznodziejskie oraz pieśni. Poza krzewieniem kultu św. Józefa słowem, należy również zwrócić uwagę na dzieła sztuki. Tekst ukazuje przykłady ze staropolskiego piśmiennictwa, jak i nowożytnego malarstwa. Przedstawienia w sztuce polskiej zostały omówione na tle sztuki europejskiej ze szczególnym wskazaniem na popularny wzorzec kompozycji śmierci św. Józefa autorstwa Carla Marattiego. Barokowe przykłady jej wykorzystania można spotkać zarówno na Warmii (Krosno, Stoczek Klasztorny czy Pluty), jak i w dwóch różnych kościołach w Lublinie (dawnej świątyni jezuickiej, a obecnie archikatedrze oraz w kościele Świętego Ducha) czy we Lwowie (pochodzący z zamku w Podhorcach). Listę tę uzupełnia przedstawienie dobrej śmierci z Przedwojewa na Mazowszu, wykorzystującej fragment kompozycji C. Marattiego, gdzie jednak św. Józef występuje jako orędownik konającego chrześcijanina. Twórcami zaprezentowanych obrazów byli znani z nazwiska malarze – Szymon Czechowicz i Piotr Kolberg, którzy przebywali we Włoszech i mieli okazję osobiście zapoznać się z dziełami rzymskiego mistrza, ale też anonimowi lokalni artyści. Poza omówieniem rodzimych wizerunków, artykuł wymienia wybrane przykłady nawiązania do wskazanego wzoru występujące w innych krajach europejskich (Włochy, Austria czy Francja). Tak szeroko zakreślone tło świadczy o silnym oddziaływaniu malarstwa Marattiego, który będąc wieloletnim dyrektorem Akademii Świętego Łukasza w Rzymie, za życia cieszył się dużym uznaniem i popularnością, zaś z czasem został zapomniany, a jedno z jego dzieł (ewentualnie jego naśladowcy) starano się przypisać bardziej od niego znanemu Rafaelowi.
The article aims to demonstrate the manifestations of the veneration of St Joseph of Nazareth as the patron saint of a good death, whose intercession should be invoked by dying persons at the moment of transition from mortal to eternal life. Support for the title can be found in theology, with its arguments disseminated by preaching works and songs. In addition to fostering devotion to St Joseph with words, attention should also be paid to works of art. The text shows examples from Old Polish writing, as well as modern painting. The depictions in Polish art are discussed against the background of European art, with particular emphasis on the popular model composition of the death of St Joseph by Carlo Maratti. Baroque examples of its use can be found both in Warmia (Krosno, Stoczek Klasztorny or Pluty), as well as in two different churches in Lublin (the former Jesuit temple and now archcathedral, and the Church of the Holy Spirit) or Lviv (from the castle in Pidhirtsi). The list is completed by a depiction of the good death from Przedwojewo in the Mazovia Region, using a fragment of a composition by C. Maratti, where St Joseph appears as an intercessor for a dying Christian. The authors of the paintings on display were well-known painters – Szymon Czechowicz and Piotr Kolberg – both resided in Italy and had the opportunity to personally study the works of the Roman master, but also anonymous local artists. In addition to discussing native images, the article lists selected examples of reference to the indicated pattern occurring in other European countries (Italy, Austria or France). Such a wide-ranging background testifies to the strong influence of the paintings of Maratti, who, being a long-time director of the Academy of St Luke in Rome, enjoyed great recognition and popularity during his lifetime, although over time he was forgotten, and one of his (or his imitator’s) works was sought to be attributed to Raphael, who was more famous than him.

The article discusses the history, construction and state of preservation of a Gothic altar from the church of St. Joseph in Dobiegniew (Lubuskie voivodeship) as well as the conservation-restoration carried out from August to December 2006. The altar is composed of a Gothic core with wings and Late Renaissance predella and crowning. The Gothic part was founded by the von Wedel family for the church in Ostrowite (commune of Dobiegniew). After 1945 the altar was transferred to the parish church of Christ the King in Dobiegniew and then, in the 1980s, to the church of St. Joseph in the same locality. Conducted studies made it possible to ascertain that the polychrome, which at present covers the altar is secondary and had been executed in the course of the altar's thorough renovation in 1928-1930. The state of the altar's preservation called for urgent conservation. The painted layer was crumbling, and the gilded and painted blue background featured extensive blisters. The reasons for this state of things were primarily uncontrolled sudden changes of the humidity and temperature in the church interior. The chief premise of the conservation-restoration was the preservation of the polychrome and gilt fragments originating from 1928-1930. The uncovered parts of the original carvings confirmed the occurrence of only traces of the original polychrome. An essential conservation move was the restoration in the background of the adhesion of the canvas, with the priming ground and the painted layer, to the wooden base. Slightly concentrated binding agents with small viscosity and excellent penetrating properties are regarded as the most effective for work of this sort; they include solutions of glutin glues, whose characteristic features additionally include considerable flexibility. The conservation of the altar involved the use of fish glue by applying the so-called Russian method. The selection of the binder and the methods of its introduction depended on the state of the preservation of the altar and the possibility of repeating the operation. The altar is displayed in conditions of unstable humidity and temperature, a fact, which suggests the assumption, that new loosenings will appear and that it will be necessary to once again conserve the monument by resorting to the earlier applied binder. The conducted work also involved the removal of secondary inscriptions in the lower quarter of the right wing and the altar crowning, thus revealing the original inscriptions in German.

Prezentowany artykuł jest odpowiedzią na wezwanie Ojca Świętego Franciszka, który publikując 8 grudnia 2020 roku list z okazji 150. rocznicy ogłoszenia św. Józefa patronem Kościoła katolickiego, zachęcił do jeszcze lepszego poznania osoby, która od wieków jest bliska każdemu człowiekowi. Podjęto zatem temat, mający na celu przybliżenie 10 pieśni ku czci św. Józefa, pochodzących z wydanego w 1871 roku w Pelplinie Zbioru pieśni nabożnych katolickich do użytku kościelnego i domowego. Analiza pieśni ukazuje niezwykłą cześć, jaką św. Józef cieszy się w Kościele. Utwory te wykonywane podczas liturgii, stawały się systematyczną katechezą, która tłumaczyła wydarzenia biblijne oraz przybliżała treści wiary katolickiej.
The presented article is a response to the call of the Holy Father Francis, who by publishing a letter on December 8, 2020 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the announcement of St. Joseph, the patron of the Catholic Church, encouraged him to get to know the person who has been close to everyone for centuries. Therefore, the topic was taken up, aimed at presenting 10 songs in honor of St. Joseph, from the Collection of Religious Catholic Songs to Be Sung in Church or at Home published in Pelplin in 1871. The analysis of the songs reveals the extraordinary veneration that St. Joseph rejoices in the Church. These pieces, performed during the liturgy, became a systematic catechesis that explained biblical events and introduced the content of the Catholic faith.

Since the 17th century the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary parish in Kalisz has been an important place of worship to St. Joseph. Communist authorities focused on discouraging the public from taking part in pilgrimages. Walking pilgrimages from Kalisz to Jasna Góra were organized despite persecution against their members. In the 1980s, the main concern of the communist authorities was to decrease the ‘Solidarity’ influence in the pilgrimage movement. The cult of St. Joseph in Kalisz developed despite the oppression, thanks to the efforts of priests: Mieczysław Janowski, Bogumił Kasprzak, Zenon Kalinowski, Józef Olczyk, Marian Chwilczyński and Lucjan Andrzejczak.
Od XVII w. parafia pod wezwaniem Wniebowzięcia NMP jest ważnym miejscem kultu św. Józefa. Władze komunistyczne koncentrowały się na zniechęceniu ludności do udziału w pielgrzymkach. Piesze pielgrzymki z Kalisza na Jasną Górę odbywały się pomimo prześladowania ich uczestników. W latach 80. głównym celem władz komunistycznych było ograniczenie wpływów „Solidarności” w ruchu pielgrzymkowym. Kult św. Józefa w Kaliszu pomimo prześladowań rozwijał się dzięki wysiłkom proboszczów parafii: Mieczysława Janowskiego, Bogumiła Kasprzaka, Zenona Kalinowskiego, Józefa Olczyka, Mariana Chwilczyńskiego oraz Lucjana Andrzejczaka.

Z bogatego materiału badawczego dotyczącego męża Maryi – Józefa, autor starał się wydobyć najważniejsze dane dotyczące jego „biografii” (od narodzin Jezusa w Betlejem do śmierci Józefa) i przedstawić jego relacje z Maryją i z Jezusem. Chodziło o to, aby ukazać jaki obraz Józefa funkcjonował w mentalności ludzi tamtych czasów. Odpowiadając na to pytanie, można powiedzieć, że był to obraz wielobarwny: z jednej strony Józef ukazywany jest jako człowiek sprawiedliwy, mądry, ufny i pobożny, z drugiej natomiast, jako ktoś targany wątpliwościami, podejrzliwy i lękliwy. Można przypuszczać, że był to zabieg celowy, aby ukazać go jako zwykłego człowieka, z cnotami i słabościami, po to, aby uwiarygodnić jego świętość i jego przesłanie. Jakie to przesłanie? Takie, że nawet będąc blisko Boga można przeżywać „noce ducha”: rozterki, cierpienia, pokusy, sytuacje po ludzku bez wyjścia. Pokładając jednak – jak św. Józef – całkowitą ufność w Bogu, można mieć niezawodną nadzieję, że Bóg nie opuści swego sługi.
From rich source material concerning Joseph the husband of Mary, the author has endeavoured to gather the most important data of his “biography” (from the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem to Joseph’s death) and to present his relationship to Mary and Jesus. The major concern was discovering the image of Joseph that was present in the mindset of people of that period. The answer to this query is that the image was variegated: on the one hand Joseph is shown as a man who was just, wise, trustful and devout, and on the other hand, as someone who was torn by doubts, suspicions and fears. It may be supposed that this had a purpose. It was to show him as a normal man with virtues and weaknesses and at the same time to authenticate his sanctity and message. What was that message? Such, that even being close to God, one may experience the “dark night of the soul”: dilemmas, sufferings, temptations and situations that humanly speaking are insurmountable. Nevertheless, having complete trust in God, like saint Joseph, one may have boundless hope, that God will not abandon his servant.

Declared by Pope Francis, the year of St. Joseph is an opportunity to deepen the relationship with the Saint and, as a community, strenghten the experience of St. Joseph services. Analysing the history of the cult and visiting the station churches declared by the Bishop of each diocese is one of the ways to get to know St. Joseph. In The Roman Catholic Diocese of Toruń, the station churches are in Chelmno, Grudziadz – Mniszek, Torun and Turznice. The article is a sort of record of the events concerning experiencing the year of St. Joseph within the discussed communities. Moreover, it gives a brief glimpse at the history of particular parishes and the cult of their patron. It also discusses St. Joseph's parish communities and presents the image of St. Joseph in particular station churches.

The novena, one of the forms of popular piety developing in many epochs, consists in turning to God more fervently for a period of nine days, months or years, typically through the intercession of a saint, in order to obtain a favor. This article is concerned with A Novena in Honor of St. Joseph in Songs with a Litany for a Two-Voice Choir contained in a collection of Fr. Franciszek Walczyński, priest of the Tarnów Diocese, musician, and teacher. The cult of St. Joseph flourished especially in the 15th century. In 1870, Pope Pius IX proclaimed him patron of the Universal Church. Four out of the nine analyzed songs were earlier pieces which were given new melodies. The remaining ones were written entirely by Walczyński. The songs are stanzaic, mostly with four-line highly regular stanzas. Most lines have 11 or 8 syllables and exact and paired rhymes. One song has a mid-verse (intra-stanzaic) refrain. The songs have a two-part structure with various components AB retaining strict symmetry or deviating from it. The songs are highly melodious, which stems from the prevalence of seconds and thirds. The meter of the songs, with a few exceptions of 2-note melismas, is syllabic. The tonality is major-minor, with a predominance of the former. The analyzed songs are accessible and have a simple texture.

The Congregation of St. Joseph Sisters was founded at the end of century by Rev. Zygmunt Gorazdowski, today saint. This foundation took its place in Lwów. The central service of St. Joseph Sisters is propagation of the gospel of merciful love by the service to the poor, elder and lonely, as well as the care of the ill, children and young people. After the changes in Ukraine in the 1990's it is now possible for the sisters to come back to this country. Sisters from Poland try to come back to the society, where they started. In the Ukraine’s new reality, they are involved in the work of re-evangelization.

Artykuł powstał dzięki inspiracji Rokiem Świętego Józefa (2020/2021), ogłoszonym przez papieża Franciszka 8 grudnia 2020 roku, oraz okolicznościowym Listem apostolskim "Patris corde", a także nauczaniem Kościoła posoborowego i wzrastającym kultem liturgicznym i pozaliturgicznym św. Józefa. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie duchowości św. Józefa jako wzoru i znaku dla współczesnych ludzi. Zamierzony cel pozwolił na konkretne sformułowanie problemu studium, który sprowadza się do pytania: Dlaczego św. Józef jawi się jako kairos w trzecim tysiącleciu? By osiągnąć postawiony cel i rozwiązać problem, artykuł ustrukturyzowano w formę tryptyku. Pierwszy rozdział ukazuje biogram Józefa w świetle Ewangelii. Uwidocznia on stopniowe odkrywanie miejsca i roli św. Józefa w historii zbawienia. Drugi rozdział prezentuje wybrane aspekty duchowości św. Józefa, wzywającej do naśladowania. Z kolei trzeci rozdział jest poświęcony odczytaniu kairos tego świętego, dany nam na trzecie tysiąclecie. Przeprowadzone analizy w poszczególnych rozdziałach wykazały, że przeżywany Rok Świętego Józefa w Kościele powszechnym oraz rosnące zainteresowanie duchowością józefologiczną inspirują do pogłębiania jego wielowymiarowej osobowości oraz czerpania z niej uniwersalnego przesłania na trzecie tysiąclecie. Takie spojrzenie na osobę i misję św. Józefa pozwala odkrywać i czcić w nim szczególnego patrona na trudny czas trzeciego tysiąclecia. Znaczenie św. Józefa wciąż rośnie, a jego orędownictwo staje się skuteczne i bardziej potrzebne, zwłaszcza we wspólnocie wierzących. Rozprawa ukazuje, że święty patriarcha mocą swej wiary uczy, by zawierzyć Bogu dzieje ludzkości w zamęcie współczesnej niewiary. Nadto jego wyjątkowa postawa milczenia, połączona z modlitwą ciszy i pracy, czyni go człowiekiem Ewangelii. Wiara Józefa w Chrystusa i wierność Ewangelii to dla współczesnych „znaki czasu”, które należy ustawicznie badać i wyjaśniać, a które ukazują go jako swoisty kairos trzeciego tysiąclecia.
The article was inspired by the Year of Saint Joseph (2020/2021), announced by Pope Francis on 8 December 2020, and the occasional Apostolic Letter Patris corde, as well as the teaching of the post-Conciliar Church and the growing liturgical and non-liturgical worship of St Joseph. The aim of the article is to show the spirituality of St Joseph as a model and sign for contemporary people. The intended goal made it possible to specifically formulate the problem of the study, which boils down to the question: why does St Joseph appear as kairos in the third millennium? In order to achieve the set goal and solve the problem, the article was structured in the form of a triptych. The first chapter presents a feature of Joseph’s biography in light of the Gospel. It shows the gradual discovery of the place and role of St Joseph in the history of salvation. The second chapter presents selected aspects of Josephological spirituality that call for imitation. The third chapter is devoted to the reading of Saint Joseph’s kairos, given to us for the third millennium. The research conducted in each of the chapters has indicated that the lived Year of Saint Joseph, which is celebrated by the universal Church, as well as the growing interest in Josephological spirituality, inspire us to deepen his multi-dimensional personality and draw from it a universal message for the third millennium. Such an approach to the person and mission of St Joseph makes it possible to discover and honour him as a special patron for the difficult period of the third millennium. The importance of St Joseph continues to grow, and his intercession is becoming effective and more necessary, especially in the community of believers. The dissertation makes one aware that the holy patriarch teaches us, with the power of his faith, to entrust the history of mankind to God in the great confusion of contemporary disbelief. Moreover, his unique attitude involving silence, combined with praying for silence and work, makes him a man of the Gospel. Joseph’s faith in Christ and his faithfulness to the Gospel are “a sign of the times” for contemporaries and must be constantly read, making St Joseph a specific kairos for the third millennium.

Dokonana analiza listu apostolskiego Patris corde pozwoliła dostrzec specyfikę teologicznego obrazu św. Józefa zawartego w dokumencie papieża Franciszka. Dokument podkreśla jego rolę ojcowską, eksponując cechy o charakterze ponadczasowym: posłuszeństwo, odwagę, kreatywność, akceptację, które są wyzwaniem również dla współczesnego chrześcijanina. Wobec kryzysu, jaki przeżywa współczesne ojcostwo, Józef jawi się jako wzór do naśladowania. Papież zaakcentował aktywność Józefa, natomiast wymiar kontemplacyjny pominął milczeniem. Zaproponowany obraz wypływa z duszpasterskiego doświadczenia Franciszka, które zadecydowało, że akcent położono nie tyle na zagadnienia teologiczno-dogmatyczne, co na praktyczne propozycje rozwiązania problemów, które napotykają współcześni ojcowie. Postać św. Józefa ukazana w liście jest aktywna i dynamiczna. Wspomniana dynamika obejmuje jego zawierzenie Bogu, które, wobec różnych wydarzeń, przed którymi stawia go Bóg, pogłębia się, wymaga większego zaangażowania i dynamizmu wzrostu.
The analysis of the apostolic letter Patris corde allows us to notice the specificity of the theological image of St. Joseph. The document emphasizes his paternal role, putting in evidence his obedience, courage, creativity, acceptance, which are also a challenge for a contemporary Christian. In the face of the crisis that contemporary fatherhood is experiencing, Joseph appears as the model for Christians. The Pope emphasizes the activity of Joseph, while ignoring the contemplative dimension. The proposed image derives from the pope’s pastoral experience, thanks to which the emphasis was placed not so much on theological and dogmatic issues as on practical proposals for solving the problems faced by contemporary fathers. The figure of St. Joseph, shown in the letter, is active and dynamic. The aforementioned dynamics includes his entrustment to God, which, in the face of various events before which God presents him, deepens, requires greater commitment and growth dynamism.

The author deals with Polish publications about St. Joseph, which have been brought out since the close of the Vatican Council II. He submits them to an introductory theological assessment, first of all within the ecclesiological dimension. He also responds to the following question: has Josephology, developed in Poland, completely assimilated the light given by Vatican Council II? Almost a thirty- year old cult of St Joseph consists of papers delivered at annual meetings of the Polish Josephological Study Kalisz (existing in 1969), books, publications, and learned papers. The question that has most often been raised is the broadly understood history of the cult of St Joseph (39% of all the works), which dominated even the subject matter of the theological foundations, being part of the Josephological doctrine (only 21 % of all the research; it is especially apparent in the case of learned works). The questions of ascetic theology are rarely undertaken (15% of all the works), biblical theology (10%), history of theology (8%), and liturgy (5%), pastoral and ecumenical theology, patristic theology and history of art.
