    The most important issue in our life, that everyone has to solve is relationship with the others. This article is an attempt to analyze the original views of the Spanish writer and philosopher about the importance of solitude in people’s life and in shaping their spirituality. There’s an attempt to answer the question why, according to Unamuno, the great solitaries have made more contribution to the humanity than the great leaders, inventors and politicians.

    Artykuł zawiera analizę zjawiska cierpienia w późnej filozofii Miguela de Unamuno. Dojrzała postać poglądów filozoficznych tego hiszpańskiego intelektualisty słusznie umieszczana jest w nurcie filozofii egzystencjalnej. Ich punkt centralny stanowi refleksja nad jednostką ludzką – bytem obdarzonym świadomością siebie i świata. Tekst pokazuje, w jaki sposób, zdaniem Unamuno, wraz ze świadomością rodzi się cierpienie, jakie są jego źródła i dlaczego związane jest ono w sposób konieczny z kondycją istoty ludzkiej. Autor stara się też odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy filozofię cierpienia Miguela de Unamuno można zaliczyć do nurtów filozofii chrześcijańskiej.
    The article analyzes the phenomenon of suffering in the late philosophy of Miguel de Unamuno. The mature form of philosophical views of this Spanish intellectual is rightly put in the line of existential philosophy. Their central point is the human being: the being endowed with awareness of oneself and the world. The text shows how, according to de Unamuno, consciousness is born of suffering, what the sources of suffering are, and why suffering is necessarily connected to the condition of the human being. The author also attempts to answer the question of whether Miguel de Unamuno’s philosophy of suffering can be counted among the currents of Christian philosophy.

    Główny cel niniejszego artykułu stanowi przedstawienie funkcji sztuki w eseju Ortegi – Dehumanizacja sztuki (1925). Teoria sztuki hiszpańskiego filozofa jest bardzo ściśle związana z jego filozofią społeczną. Punktem wyjścia dla prezentowanego tematu jest odpowiedź na pytanie o rolę sztuki w procesie kształtowania różnic społecznych. W swojej analizie autor pokazuje, iż w rzeczywistości sztuka w teorii Ortegi pełni funkcję swoiście rozumianego ocalenia – ochrony przed umasowieniem. Autor uzasadnia tezę, że zdehumanizowana sztuka charakteryzuje się swego rodzaju ambiwalentnością: jest niezrozumiała i jednocześnie, poprzez to niezrozumienie, otwiera nowe horyzonty w rozumieniu człowieka i społeczeństwa.
    The main purpose of this paper is to present a function of the art in Ortega’s work – The dehumanization of art (1925). The art theory of the Spanish thinker is very closely connected to the social philosophy, as a starting point in the search for an answer to the question: what is the role of art in shaping social diff erences? In his analysis, the author shows that, in fact, the arts is a kind of salvation – it’s a protection against the masses. The author justifies the thesis that dehumanised art is ambivalent: it is incomprehensible and, at the same time, opens up new horizons to the look at the man and society.

    This article is historical and philosophical in nature. Its purpose is to outline the most important trends and problems in the 19th-century Spanish philosophy. This philosophy has not yet been the subject of deeper analyses, especially in Polish literature on the subject. This is a major oversight, because the nineteenth century is the time of the impressive growth of modern social, political, legal, moral and intelectual structures in Spain. An important role in their development was played by Spanish philosophers and their reception of modern European philosophy and science. The reception was accompanied by numerous disputes and discussions about the condition of the Spanish culture and its possible development directions.

    “Człowiek z krwi i kości, który rodzi się, cierpi i umiera – przede wszystkim umiera – który je i pije, bawi się i śpi, myśli i kocha, człowiek, którego się widzi, i słyszy, brat, prawdziwy brat. [...] I ten konkretny człowiek z krwi i kości jest podmiotem i zarazem najwyższym przedmiotem wszelkiej filozofii, czy tego chcą czy nie chcą niektórzy tak zwani filozofowie”. Tymi słowami Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936) otwiera zbiór esejów opublikowanych pod wspólnym tytułem O poczuciu tragiczności życia wśród ludzi i wśród narodów. Odżegnując się od abstrakcyjnych konstruktów kryjących się pod pojęciami takimi jak“ludzkość” i “to, co ludzkie”, hiszpański filozof zwraca się ku konkretnemu człowiekowi, człowiekowi z krwi i kości (hiszp. el hombre de carne y hueso). Tenże świadom własnej jednostkowości człowiek, którego filozofowanie wypływa z doświadczenia tytułowego poczucia tragiczności życia winien być - zdaniem Unamuno - nie tylko podmiotem, ale także przedmiotem filozoficznego namysłu. Jako rdzennie ludzkie autor nowatorskiej Mgły uznaje rozdarcie człowieka między nieuchronną skończonością a pragnieniem nieśmiertelności (życia wiecznego). Wobec tego jedyny prawdziwy problem filozofii stanowi świadomość własnej i powszechnej skończoności. Jednostkowy humanizm Unamuno ogniskuje się zatem wokół trzech problemów: kwestionującej sens egzystencji śmierci, irracjonalizmie natury ludzkiej oraz problemie (nie)istnienia Boga.
    “The man of flesh and bone; the man who is born, suffers, and dies— above all, who dies; the man who eats and drinks and plays and sleeps and thinks and wills; the man who is seen and heard; the brother, the real brother”. With these words, Miguel de Unamuno (1864-1936) opens a philosophical treatise entitled The Tragic Sense of Life. By rejecting the abstract constructs hiding under the terms "humanity" and "what is human", the Spanish philosopher turns to a specific man, a man of flesh and blood (spanish: el hombre de carne y hueso). This man, aware of his individuality, whose philosophy derives from the experience of the title sense of the tragedy of life should be - according to Unamuno - not only the subject, but also the subject of philosophical reflection. As the indigenously human author of Mist, he recognizes the tear of man between the inevitable finitude and the desire for immortality (eternal life). Therefore, the only real problem of philosophy is the awareness of one's own and universal finitude. Unamuno's individual humanism focuses on three problems: questioning the meaning of the existence of death, the irrationality of human nature and the problem of (non)existence of God.

    Im Artikel möchte ich zeigen, wie spanische Philosophinnen nicht nur ihre durch das Patriarchat weggenommene Stellung in der Philosophiegeschichte wiedererlangen, sondern auch wie immer mehr Frauen verantwortliche Posten in unterschiedlichen Institutionen bekleiden. Diese Thesen begleitet das Postulat, den von Frauen geschaffenen philosophischen Gedanken genauer zu untersuchen und öffentlich zu machen, damit sich künftige Generationen junger Denker auf feministische Entwürfe beziehen könnten.
    This paper presents how female Spanish philosophers are regaining the position previously taken away by the patriarchate. In addition to that, it demonstrates that gradually more and more women started to occupy high-rank positions in various institutions. Abovementioned statements are accompanied by the call to further investigate and spread the female philosophical thought in order for the future generations not to be deprived of feminist references.
    En este trabajo queremos mostrar cómo las filósofas españolas no solo están recuperando el lugar que el patriarcado les ha arrebatado en la historia de la filosofía, sino que cada vez son más numerosas las mujeres que ocupan puestos de responsabilidad dentro de las instituciones. Todo ello sin dejar de luchar por el reconocimiento y la visibilización de la filosofía escrita por mujeres, para que las futuras generaciones de jóvenes y de pensadoras no se vean privadas de referentes femeninos.
    W artykule chcę pokazać nie tylko jak hiszpańskie filozofki nie tylko odzyskują pozycję w historii filozofii, której to pozbawił je patriarchat, lecz także że coraz więcej kobiet zajmuje odpowiedzialne stanowiska w różnych instytucjach. Tezom tym towarzyszą postulaty, by dokładniej zbadać i upublicznić myśl filozoficzną tworzoną przez kobiety, by przyszłe pokolenia młodych myślicieli nie były pozbawione możliwości odniesienia się do koncepcji feministycznych.
