Opis:: This work is concerned with the propagation of rapidly oscillating electromagnetic (EM) signal in a Lorentz dispersive medium. The problem considered here is 1-dimensional and its exact solution is described by a contour integral defined in a complex frequency plane. With the use of uniform asymptotic techniques, approximate representation for the total field consisting of the Sommerfeld and Brillouin precursors and the main signal is obtained. The effect of the rate of envelope changes, as well as of carrier frequency on the shape of the total signal is examined.

Opis:: This paper is concerned with the Sommerfeld effect (Jump phenomena) attenuation in an non-ideal mechanical oscillator connected with an unbalanced motor excitation with a limited power supply (non-ideal system) using a magnetorheological damper (MRD). The dynamical response of systems with MRD presents different behavior due to their nonlinear characteristic. MRD nonlinear response is associated with adaptive dissipation related to their hysteretic behavior. The Bouc-Wen mathematical model is used to represent the MRD behavior. Numerical simulations show different aspects about the Sommerfeld effect, illustrating the influence of the different electric current applied in the MRD to control the force developed by this damper.

Opis:: Construction of basins of attraction, used for the analysis of nonlinear dynamical systems which present multistability, are computationaly very expensive. Because of the long runtime needed, in many cases, the construction of basins does not have any practical use. Numerical time integration is currently the bottleneck of algorithms used for the construction of such basins. The integrations related to each set of initial conditions are independent of each other. The assignment of each integration to a separate thread seems very attractive, and parallel algorithms which use this approach to construct the basins are presented here. Two versions are considered, one for multi-core and another for many-core architectures, both based on a SPMD approach. The algorithm is tested on three systems, the classic nonlinear Duffing system, a non-ideal system exhibiting the Sommerfeld effect and an immunodynamic system. The results for all examples demonstrate the versatility of the proposed parallel algorithm, showing that the multi-core parallel algorithm using MPI has nearly an ideal speedup and efficiency.

Opis:: In this paper, we present nonlinear dynamic behaviour of a system which consists of a mass connected to a rigid support by a shape memory alloy (SMA) element and a damper. In order to disturb the system, a DC motor with limited power supply is connected to the mass, causing an interaction between the vibrating structure and the energy source. The SMA element is characterised using a one-dimensional phenomenological constitutive model, based on the classical Devonshire theory. We analyse the non-ideal system in form of two coupled nonlinear differential equations. Some interesting nonlinear phenomena as the Sommerfeld effect and nonlinear resonance including periodic, chaotic and hyperchaotic regime are presented.
W pracy przedstawiono opis dynamiki nieliniowego układu złożonego z masy połączonej ze sztywnym podłożem za pośrednictwem elementu z pamięcią kształtu i tłu- mikiem. W celu realizacji wymuszenia w układzie zastosowano silnik prądu stałego z ograniczonym poborem mocy, który pobudza do ruchu masę, tworząc w ten sposób sprzężenie mechaniczne pomiędzy układem drgającym a źródłem energii. Element z pamięcią kształtu opisano za pomocą jednowymiarowego modelu fenomenologicznego opartego na teorii Devenshire’a. Przeanalizowano rozważany nieidealny układ opisany dwoma sprzężonymi nieliniowymi równaniami ruchu. Zaobserwowano i opisano interesujące zjawiska nieliniowe w postaci efektu Sommerfelda i nieliniowego rezonansu w zakresie drgań okresowych, chaotycznych i hiperchaotycznych.

Opis:: The objective of the present work is to analyze the dynamics of a vibro-impact system consisting of two blocks of different mass coupled by a spring with two stages. Two different types of excitation sources for the system are used in the analysis: the first is an ideal excitation in form of a harmonic force, and the second is a non-ideal excitation in form of a DC electric motor with limited power supply which has an unbalanced rotor. The control parameter for both situations is the excitation frequency of the system. The analysis includes time histories of displacements and velocities, phase portraits and diagrams of the displacement and frequency, used to show the Sommerfeld effect. For certain values of the parameters of the system, the motion is chaotic. The mathematical model of the system is used to obtain an insight to the global dynamics of the vibro-impact system. The model with a non-ideal excitation is more realistic, complete and complex than the model with the ideal excitation.

Opis:: Lubsko (dawniej Sommerfeld) to miasto położone w południowo-zachodniej części województwa lubuskiego. Jego morfologia została istotnie zmieniona w wyniku odkrywkowej eksploatacji surowców ilastych prowadzonej na przemysłową skalę w XIX i XX w. Celem tej publikacji jest uporządkowanie obecnej wiedzy na temat geologii i historii górniczej Lubska, Jasienia oraz ich okolic. Dodatkowo, wynikiem przeprowadzonego zwiadu terenowego jest dokumentacja fotograficzna reliktów górniczych. Studium literaturowe zostało przeprowadzane na bazie dokumentów, tekstów i map pochodzących z Biblioteki Publicznej Miasta i Gminy Lubsko, Archiwum Państwowego w Zielonej Górze, prywatnych zbiorów geologa – pana A. Kuźniara,a także baz danych i źródeł internetowych. Przeprowadzono również rozmowy z byłymi pracownikami zakładów – mechanikiem, panem Piotrem Kaczanem, głównym geologiem, panem Alfredem Kuźniarem i kierownikiem produkcji, panią Eugenią Kuźniar.
Lubsko is a small town in western part of Poland. Deposits of clay raw materials in this area were well known in middle ages. Back in those days production existed as a cottage industry. Development of mining occurred in XIX and XX century due to the construction of a new railway line across this region. The end of this industry branch is related to the political changes in Poland in the late 80's. Nowadays, only one mine is operating in this area. The mining left significant impact on Lubsko’s history and morphology. This article describes geology of the region, its deposits and history of the mining and processing of clay raw materials. Moreover, the recent condition of the mining remainings is described and documented with photos.

Opis:: This work is devoted to the analysis of the linear temporal stability of a laminar dynamic boundary layer on a horizontal porous plane plate. The basic flow is assumed to be laminar and two-dimensional. The basic flow velocity profiles are obtained by numerically solving the Blasius equation using the Runge-Kutta method. The perturbations of these basic solutions are expressed in the form of three-dimensional Tollmien-Schlichting waves. The formulation of the stability problem leads to the Orr-Sommerfeld equation modified by the permeability parameter (Darcy number) and the small Reynolds number. This equation is given in a general form which can be applied to the Chebyshev domain and the boundary layer domain and solved numerically using the Chebyshev spectral collocation method. The marginal stability diagrams, the critical Reynolds numbers and the eigenvalue spectra are obtained for different values of the parameters which have modified the stability equation. Numerical solutions indicate the importance of the effect of these parameters on the flow stability characteristics.

Opis:: Possible reasons are studied why Ladislas (Władysław) Natanson’s paper on the statistical theory of radiation, published in 1911 both in English and in the German translation, was not cited properly in the early history of quantum statistics by outstanding scientists, such as Arnold Sommerfeld, Paul Ehrenfest, Satyendra Nath Bose and Albert Einstein.The social and psychological aspects are discussed as background to many so far discussions on the academic evaluation of his theory.In order to avoid in the future such Natansonian cases of very limited reception of valuable scientific works, it is proposed to introduce a digital tag in which all the information of relevant papers published so far should be automatically accumulated and updated.
Dyskutowane są możliwe przyczyny, które sprawiły, że artykuł Władysława Natansona na temat statystycznej teorii promieniowania, opublikowany w 1911 r. zarówno w języku angielskim, jak i w tłumaczeniu na język niemiecki, nie był prawidłowo cytowany we wczesnej historii statystyki kwantowej przez wybitnych naukowców, takich jak Arnold Sommerfeld, Paul Ehrenfest, Satyendra Nath Bose i Albert Einstein.Omówiono aspekty społeczne i psychologiczne, które pozwalają lepiej poznać tło wielu dotychczasowych dyskusji na temat oceny jego teorii.Aby uniknąć w przyszłości takich natansonowskich przypadków bardzo ograniczonej recepcji wartościowych publikacji naukowych, proponuje się wprowadzenie cyfrowego znacznika, w którym wszystkie dotychczasowe informacje o odpowiednich publikacjach powinny być automatycznie gromadzone i aktualizowane.
