Opis:
The paper presents the influence of social context on illocutionary metonymy in directives evoked by various elements of request scenarios. As the human language activity reflects the physical and social worlds of the intersubjective context (cf. Verschueren 1999), the recognized and construed social relations have an impact not only on addressive forms, but also on the appearance of other elements such as indirectness and its scalarity.Indirect directives are based on illocutionary metonymic scenarios (Panther and Thornburg 1998) and by evoking a part of the scenario referring to the core action they give access to the illocutionary scenario domain. The scalar nature of indirectness (Panther and Thornburg 1998, see also Panther and Thornburg 1999, 2007 and Thornburg and Panther 1997), depends on the number of evoked elements and their conceptual distance from the core of the request. It can be based on conventional grammatical structures (e.g. auxiliary verbs) or giving hints by only introducing the action scenario. As Veres-Guśpiel (2013)  has shown the chosen type of indirectness is influenced by social context and the weight of a directive (for the latter, see also Csató and Pléh 1988, Pléh 2012).The main question of the presented research regards types of illocutionary metonymy, that can be experienced in various social contexts and what their frequency of use is.

Social Contexts
Adolescent Girls
Opis:
Violence against women is linked to their disadvantaged position in the society. It is rooted in unequal power relationships between men and women in society and is a global problem which is not limited to a specific group of women in society. An adolescent girl’s life is often accustomed to the likelihood of violence, and acts of violence exert additional power over girls because the stigma of violence often attaches more to a girl than to the  perpetrator. The experience of violence is distressing at the individual emotional and physical level. The field of research and programmes for adolescent girls has traditionally focused on sexuality, reproductive health, and behaviour, neglecting the broader social issues that underpin adolescent girls’ human rights, overall development, health, and well-being. This paper is an endeavour to address the understated or disguised form of violence which the adolescent girls experience within the social contexts. The parameters exposed under this research had been ignored to a large extent when it comes to studying the dimension of violence under the social domain. Hence, the researchers attempted to explore this camouflaged form of violence and discovered some specific parameters such as: Diminished Self Worth and Esteem, Verbal Abuse, Menstruation Taboo and Social Rigidity, Negligence of Medical and Health Facilities and Complexion- A Prime Parameter for Judging Beauty. The study was conducted in the districts of Haryana (India) where personal interviews were taken from both urban and rural adolescent girls (aged 13 to 19 years) based on  a structured interview schedule. The results revealed that the adolescent girls, both in urban as well as rural areas were quite affected with the above mentioned issues. In urban areas, however, due to the higher literacy rate, which resulted in more rational thinking, the magnitude was comparatively smaller, but the difference was still negligible.

Opis:
ACITIVY GROUP AND GROUP 111 (1977-...) ‘LUCIM ACTIVITIES’ : DELAYED RECEPTION Artistic activities in Lucim, undertaken in the past and still continued, remain one of the most spectacular as well as the least recognized phenomena in Polish art. In 1977, Bogdan and Witold Chmielewski, Andrzej Maziec, Wiesław Smużny and Stanisław Wasilewski decided to focus in their work on Polish countryside. Together with the people of Lucim, the Grupa Dzialania /Activity Group/ and then Group 111 (without Andrzej Maziec and Stanisław Wasilewski) engaged in actions of a very complex nature: mystical and ritual, artistic, animating and cultural, social and research-oriented. Without doubt, the long and active presence of the artists in Lucim can be seen in the context of the interweaving of anthropology and art in the late 20th century. Various activities undertaken by the artists and local people belonged to one of three main trends. The first one – research-oriented, ethnographical and social – became an instrument for defining the needs of the Lucim community, receiving and evaluation the activities. The second one was the New Folk Art, in opposition to state-controlled cultural events in the People’s Republic of Poland and work of other artists. This approach was totally different from the search of relics and sources popular at the time, which turned folk art into a phenomenon to be displayed in museums and an object of vivisections and explorations. The Lucim group did their best to create real culture of the countryside consistent with the tastes of local people. And finally, there was the 11-point manifesto of social art, published in 1980. Socially-oriented activities made it possible for the artists to go beyond the field of art – there were numerous such cases: formulating premises for the Centre for Social and Artistic Activities, the erection of the Folk House and collaboration with scientists (rural sociologists from a number of European centers). The reception of the project proved difficult. In the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s the artists’ actions were associated with cultural policy of the state. They were completely omitted by art critics and galleries for years. Even though the group participated in key events of the period: the famous plain-air session Osieki 79 Meeting, the important 1991 exhibition by Janusz Bogucki and Nina Smolarz entitled Epitafium i siedem przestrzeni [Epitaph and Seven Spaces], housed by the Zachęta Gallery. In 2009, an exhibition entitled Lucim Goes On! was staged in Toruń. After the show, its organizer (the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu) purchased a selection of works as well as the documentation of the Group, which meant that artifacts began to be displayed at various expositions. It seems that reasons for this omission were threefold. Diverse activities among the artists resulting from the demands of the locals and different artistic attitudes. Hardly definable nature of the activities. Delayed reception of the ‘ethnographical turn’ and the ‘performative turn’ in Poland. But the key reason seems to be the many-year negligence of cultural images of rural life in art. A change of this situation could only be observed on Polish art scene in 2016.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to outline the problem of critical discourse analysis in relation to theoretical framework of phenomenological sociology. The main task undertaken here is to show contemporary CDA assumptions from the perspective of Schützian tradition. The goal of the paper is also to discuss the major dilemmas associated with “social world,” which is not only the basic concept of phenomenological sociology but also a keyword of contemporary critical discourse studies. All these reflections are guided by observation that the nature of critical discourse studies is eclectic, what causes many dilemmas at the theoretical and methodological level.

Opis:
The paper is an attempt to answer the question concerning the extent to which letters written by Rahel Varnhagen von Ense, one of the most important representatives of the women's epistola- ry literature of German Romanticism, touches upon women issues. The analysis of the psychologi- cal and social contexts of women's situation is a crucial motif in the correspondence of the said authoress. In her letters to David Veit, Rebecca Friedlander, and her sister Rose, one can notice harsh criticism of the limited opportunities for the girls from Jewish families as well as of the institution of marriage in its traditional form based on the wife's absolute submission to her husband. As a result, a woman would lose a large part of her personality and freedom. Rahel never changed her opinion on marriage, although her married life with August Varnhagen was an example of an ideal partnership. In her letters, Rahel also deals with the problem of equal rights for women in the fields of art and science. For example, the authoress mustered the courage to voice severe criticism on women writers such as Karoline Schlegel-Schelling and Dorothea Tieck, who would publish their works under male pen names. In her writings, Rahel Varnhagen points out to an extremely hard situation of the well-educated women and demands more personal freedom for them. According to her, this very freedom is a significant factor for women and men to become equal.

Opis:
The end of the welfare state revealed the heretofore hidden social problems to their full extent. The public welfare system, as it had been functioning up to then, proved in many instances incapable of providing effective assistance to individuals or groups that found themselves in predicaments of various sorts. The year 1989 marked a turningpoint, when the first nongovernmental organizations were established to take over, where the public sector had failed. A crucial factor within this system is the Voluntary service, where honorary welfare workers commit their time and efforts to the benefit of their neighborhood, their local community or the public, working in an honorary capacity. Everybody who desire to meet the challenge of rendering assistance to the socially disadvantaged, should possess, however, of an appropriate disposition so that they may successfully attend to their selfassumed duties. The authors of this paper focus on the manifold ethical issues of the volunteers’ range of activities. An outstanding work among the multitude of publications on this topic is without doubt “The Ethical Codex and Precepts of the Voluntary Service” edited by Bishop Jan Chrapek. This work, inspir ed by the motive force and the spirit of Christianity, bears the mark of true universality.

Opis:
Social entrepreneurship3, as a field of research, has gained enormous interest of academics in management and entrepreneurship literature for almost 30 years now. Also, scholars in other intellectual domains like economics, finance, marketing, political science, sociology and few others, have found it fascinating. As a term, it is common in public discourses and has found interest among policy makers, corporations, media, different groups of practitioners and professionals. As a phenomenon it is not new, although the SE term has been only recently coined (Banks, 1972; Drucker, 1979). For far more than two centuries great individuals and groups have tried to tackle the societal challenges, using economic means, such as the Rochdale Pioneers who inspired cooperative ideals, and Florence Nightingale – an English nurse and social activist, who changed the patient care landscape (Nicholls, 2006). Many of the ventures and actions of social initiatives can be traced to the earlier, medieval or even ancient times. Today, social initiatives and social enterprise have emerged in particular countries and regions as a result of their historical institutional trajectories, and “social enterprise landscape ZOO” (Young & Brewer, 2016) has become very heterogeneous. The interest of management and entrepreneurship research into the phenomenon has resulted in an unprecedented increase in scholarly output. The historical analysis of SE research (Moss, Lumpkin & Short, 2017) published in key journals and databases shows an increase from one paper to 45 papers published per year between 1990 and 2010. SE centers established in universities like Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge have designed degree programmes, dedicated textbooks, and separate SE conferences, special journals like Social Enterprise Journal, Journal of Social Entrepreneurship and many more have been introduced for educational and publication purposes. SE has become popular as a response to the inabilities of governments and business to solve pressing social problems, including poverty, social exclusion, and environmental issues. All of the above are manifested in the diversity of different SE initiatives. Thus, we express our interest to explain and predict SE and social enterprise as phenomena, to identify related antecedents and outcomes, but also to look into the box of SE processes. This special issue attempts to respond to this interest. Diverse methodological approaches including descriptive, explanatory or exploratory ones are included in the papers in this issue. SE phenomenon is studied on an individual, organizational, and even a macro level. Different data is employed: current or archival data, primary or secondary, referring to different country settings such as Taiwan, Poland, Italy and England. Through the inclusion of such diverse perspectives and context, this issue works as a holistic approach to the phenomenon under analysis. In the following sections of this paper, we first provide a succinct overview of SE as a phenomenon and research field. We summarize the definitional debate and point to valuable theoretical frameworks for studying SE. Next, we introduce individual authors’ contributions to the issue and, finally, we propose further suggestions for future research.

Opis:
Aim: Higher education has experienced major changes in last few decades in India in terms of its expansion, content and reach. Massification of higher education has increased access to education and people belonging to different social backgrounds are getting enrolled in higher education. A pertinent question that emerges here is: what kind of relationship exists between the background characteristics of people and the levels and types of higher education they attain? This descriptive study provides a comprehensive answer. Method: This empirical work is conducted in Srinagar city of India. It covered 704 respondents belonging to 245 households. Survey method was used for collecting primary data and structured interviews were conducted by making use of interview-schedule. Results: This study finds that higher education in Srinagar is readily available for many but such availability is embedded within constraints related to gender, age, occupation and education of parents and caste related identities. People coming from different social backgrounds acquire different types and levels of higher education. It creates hierarchy among and within academic courses of higher education and inequalities among the groups. Conclusion: Higher education reflects as well as promotes social inequalities in contemporary context and thus the egalitarian goals of higher education are getting compromised. There is need to bring change in the courses and contents of higher education so that it can address to dynamic needs of people coming from different backgrounds. Education needs to become a vehicle for liberation and social transformation and should not remain a mere agency of social reproduction. Key words: social background; courses within higher education; higher education in different contexts; gender; caste; parent’s background; descriptive study.
