Opis:
The light-emitting diode (LED) is an essential component of intelligent street lighting (ISL) systems. An efficient ISL system can not only reduce power consumption by planning LED illuminating time but also reduce maintenance costs through a high degree of automation. In this paper, a buck-boost converter is used to realise composite transmission of power and signals for an ISL system. The power is modulated by the pulse width modulation (PWM) approach, and the switching ripple generated in the PWM process is utilised as the carrier of the signals transmitted between the remote-control centre and the slave nodes. Moreover, the proposed model involves a ‘request to send (RTS)/confirm to send (CTS)’ mechanism to avoid signal conflicts. Compared with the conventional power line communication (PLC) approach, the proposed transmission scheme has the advantages of simple circuit structure and simple system wiring. Additionally, a simulation model built in MATLAB/Simulink proves the designed transmission method has strong anti-noise ability.

W artykule przedstawiono przegląd wybranych metod podłączenia kamer z interfejsem cyfrowym do systemów mikroprocesorowych lub rekonfigurowalnych, z podziałem na systemy z komputerem nadrzędnym oraz na tzw. smart camera. W drugim przypadku konieczne jest zadbanie o odpowiednią architekturę odpowiedzialną za przesłanie zarejestrowanego obrazu do jednostek obliczeniowych. Zaprezentowano rozwijany system oparty o układ FPGA, o nowatorskiej architekturze, zawierający dwa sensory CMOS i rozbudowany układ pamięci zewnętrznych, mogący służyć do realizacji specyficznych zadań przetwarzania obrazów.
Embedded vision systems are becoming more popular. A smart camera consists of an image sensor and a computing unit processing the image. Integration of many new functions in vision systems is now possible due to progress of resources of FPGA devices. A new vision system device presented in this paper is unique with regard to its architecture. The main goal during development of this smart camera was to provide it with a possibly large number of memory banks for storing image data, while keeping compact dimensions and low price. In the presented system there was chosen processing of monochromatic images, so significant reduction in the width of memory data buses was obtained. Thanks to that, up to eight fully independent memory banks was connected to the FPGA device. The second assumption was usage of static memories, which decided in favour of large functionality of the device, because very fast data transfer from random address location was then possible. This meets requirements of image processing algorithms, which is computing data in Region of Interest, for example.

Opis:
Smoke control solutions are used to maintain tenable conditions in buildings, enabling evacuation process, rescue operations and reducing the thermal stress on the building structure. For last 50-years the design process of such solutions did not significantly change – a required volumetric capacity is calculated with theoretical and empirical models, and further, mechanical design is prepared to deliver this capacity. In this paper, a new approach – “smart smoke control” is introduced, as a system that adapts the performance parameters based on the momentary measurements of temperature in the building. The system follows the growth and decay of fire in the building, which allows optimization of its mechanical parameters, and provides substantial increase in the performance. This paper provides a discussion on traditional and new concepts in smoke control, and defines areas, in which a paradigm shift must occur, to enable widespread adoption new and more efficient solutions. The paper does also refer to previous proof of concept studies, presenting the preliminary assessment of the performance of a smart smoke control system.

Niniejsza praca przedstawia charakterystykę międzynarodowych, w tym także i polskich, osiągnięć w coraz szybciej rozwijającej się tekstronice. Rozdział dotyczący genezy tekstroniki wprowadza czytelnika w świat inteligentnej odzieży oraz głównych kierunków jej rozwoju. W kolejnej części publikacji zaprezentowane zostały najistotniejsze wymagania stawiane produktom tzw. elektroniki noszonej oraz problemy, z jakimi stykają się projektanci wyrobów tekstronicznych, którymi są m.in. sposoby zasilania oraz łączenia zintegrowanych z odzieżą układów elektronicznych, wybór transmisji danych, a także niewielka dostępność układów nadających się do zastosowań tekstronicznych. Przeprowadzona analiza pokazuje perspektywy szybkiego rozwoju tekstroniki w takich obszarach jak elektronika użytkowa, medyczna, a także odzież rozrywkowa i sportowa oraz wyroby ratownicze i militarne. Charakterystyczna interdyscyplinarność tekstroniki ukazuje nowy trend panujący w dzisiejszej nauce, która zachęca do prowadzenia badań oraz wykorzystywania wiedzy z kilku powiązanych ze sobą dziedzin nauki w celu stworzenia pełnowartościowego produktu końcowego.

Przedmiotem artykułu jest zastosowanie podejścia „smart city” w transportowym systemie Lwowa. Zdefiniowano filozofię „smart city” oraz przedstawiono główne cechy inteligentnych miast. Artykuł zawiera analizę głównych problemów systemu transportowego we Lwowie oraz propozycje w zakresie rozwoju tego systemu w kierunku miasta inteligentnego. Brak koordynacji pomiędzy strukturami, które kształtują układ komunikacyjny miasta jest jednym z kluczowych zagadnień. Przedstawiono rezultaty projektu „Smart city Lviv” w 2015 roku w obszarze transportu. „Smart” ludzie we Lwowie zwiększają potencjał miasta jako inteligentnego. Analiza badania socjologicznego, przeprowadzonego w 2013 roku pozwoliła na wyodrębnienie głównych problemów powiązanych z przemieszczaniem ludzi w mieście oraz na ocenę jakości miejskich przewozów transportem zbiorowym. W artykule wymieniono pozytywne strony i tendencje w rozwoju systemu transportowego miasta oraz innowacyjne rozwiązania. Zaprezentowano system zarządzania ruchem we Lwowie, z priorytetem dla transportu zbiorowego, który pozwolił na lepsze zorganizowanie ruchu pojazdów, wzrost jakości przewozów tramwajami na liniach z priorytetem oraz monitorowanie ruchu na skrzyżowaniach i w jego wyniku – wzrost bezpieczeństwa. Autor prezentuje propozycje w zakresie rozwoju transportu zbiorowego oraz promocji wykorzystania rowerów w podróżach, jako wyniku realizowanego projektu „Smart city Lviv”. Niektóre z tych propozycji już zostały zrealizowane.
The article is dedicated to the analysis of application of the “smart city” approach in the Lviv transport system. The definition of "smart city" and its main features are presented. The article includes the analysis of major problems in Lviv transport system and provides suggestions for the development of this system on the way to the smart city approach. Lack of coordination between the structures in Lviv transport system is one of the key issues. Article presents the results of "Smart city Lviv" project held in 2015 in the sphere of transport system. "Smart" people in Lviv increase the potential of the Lviv as a smart city. Sociological research conducted in 2013 helped to distinguish the main issues of people’s travels in the city and the assessment of the quality of urban public transport. The positive aspects and trends in the development of Lviv transport system and innovative solutions are presented in the article. Traffic management system with priority for public transport in Lviv is described. It leads to better traffic management, increase of the quality of public transport and safety. Proposals for the development of public transport and promoting the use of bicycles for travel have been given as the result of implemented of the "Smart city Lviv" project. Some of them have been already implemented.

In the era of dynamic development of ICT and its increasingly common use in every aspect of life, automated fare collection systems in the public transport became a standard in large cities throughout the world. The systems implemented worldwide, including Poland, differ in assumptions and technologies used. A part of the solutions already implemented is based on the so-called Check-In and Check-Out model, which raises a lot of social fears. The aim of the paper is to present premises that are decisive for the implementation of e-ticket systems in urban public transport, which are based on the registration of the entry to and exit from a vehicle.

Obecnie w niemal każdej dziedzinie życia zauważyć można znaczący wzrost znaczenia technologii. Rozwój ten jest konieczny i niesie za sobą wiele korzystnych zmian również w funkcjonowaniu nowoczesnego miasta, które w myśl współczesnych trendów ma stać się „SMART CITY”. Słownikowa definicja słowa „smart” wskazuje jego znaczenia jako „inteligentny, mądry”, co oznacza że „smart city” jest nie tylko inteligentne dzięki rozwiązaniom m.in. teleinformatycznym wspomagającym jego codzienne funkcjonowanie, ale także mądre mądrością korzystającą z dotychczasowych doświadczeń i odpowiadającą na nietechnologiczne potrzeby mieszkańców miast. Traktując współczesne technologie jako swoistą „nakładkę” na istniejącą lub projektowaną tkankę urbanistyczną należy pamiętać, że nowo projektowane obszary muszą być również „smart” swoją strukturą i programem tworzącym wysokiej jakości podbudowę pod miasto przyszłości.
We can currently observe a significant increase in the importance of technology in almost every aspect of life. This development is necessary and brings with it many beneficial changes, including those concerning the functioning of the modern city, which, according to contemporary trends, is to become a “SMART CITY”. The dictionary definition of the word “smart” points to its meaning as “intelligent, clever”, which means that a “smart city” is not only intelligent thanks to information technology-related solutions which support its day-to-day functioning, but also smart thanks to the wisdom of employing previous experiences and answering the non-technological needs of city residents. Treating contemporary technologies as a sort of “plug-in” for the existing or designed urban tissue, we must remember that newly designed areas should also be “smart” through their structure , as well as a programme that creates a high-quality foundation for the future city.

Intelligent transport systems (ITS) are undoubtedly an opportunity for the sustainable development of smart cities today. ITS is based on advanced transport technologies that help minimise the emission of harmful substances to the environment. Smart mobility and ITS are related to the use of ICT. The implementation of technologically advanced ITS is associated with several benefits, barriers and difficulties. However, transport, ITS and smart mobility (as a component of a smart city) are indicated as the most desirable option for sustainable urban transport systems. The article aims to identify barriers related to the implementation of ITS in cities from the point of view of people responsible for the organisation of urban transport representing the local government of selected voivodship cities in Poland. The goal formulated in this way allowed to identify the following research question: what are the problems and barriers of implementing ITS in the city from the local government’s perspective? To achieve the paper’s aim, the author based their analysis on a qualitative technique of collecting empirical data. Ten individual in-depth interviews were conducted with representatives of local governments (vice-mayors and members of urban transport organisers) in voivodship cities, which represented six Polish macro-regions. Research results and findings indicate the main categories and subcategories of barriers related to the ITS implementation. The identified barriers are grouped into the following categories: economic, social, organisational, technological and legal. The contribution is twofold: first, in the presentation of the theoretical and practical barriers to ITS in juxtaposition; and second, in identifying the intelligent transportation impact, which affects the provision of being a smarter city. The findings can positively influence as important factors for local governments to focus on intelligent transport.

This article aims to identify main trends in scientific literature characterising urban smart mobility, on the basis of bibliometric analysis of articles published in the ISI Web of Science and Scopus databases. The study period was set from 2000 to 2017. Authors used a basic technique of the bibliometric analysis of the scientific literature characterising urban smart mobility with the support of the VOSviewer software. The analysis included the number of publications, citation analysis, research area analysis and the most frequent keywords. The analysis led to taking notice of current research trends dealing with the urban smart mobility. The core of the paper is a theoretical framework of research trends, which was developed through a review of scientific literature. The result of this paper is a map showing the existing relationships between key terms, research areas characterising publications dealing with the urban smart mobility and intelligent transport system (ITS). "Smart city" is probably the most "in vogue", debated and analysed concept among researchers and administrative/ governmental representatives from all over the world. This multidimensional concept is mainly based on smart technology structured around few major components: smart mobility, smart environment, smart governance, smart living, and everything that targets the people’s wellbeing. This work focuses on a hot topic – mobility because of its significant impact on the environment by pollution as well as living by requiring intelligent transport systems.

Opis:
In the article the smart house (SH) structural scheme, the general performance algorithm of the SH system, and the SH system model based on colored Petri nets, which enables exploring dynamics of the whole system as well as internal interaction of its main structural and functional subsystems at the system level design, have been developed.
W artykule przedstawiono opracowanie schematu strukturalnego inteligentnego domu (ID), ogólny algorytm pracy systemu ID, a także model systemu ID na podstawie kolorowej sieci Petri, co pozwala badać dynamikę zachowania zarówno całego systemu ID, jak i wewnętrznego współdziałania jej głównych podsystemów.
