Opis:
Montenegro’s independence in 2006 and the introduction of Montenegrin as an official language in the Republic of Montenegro paved the way for institutional ized normative work on the Montenegrin language, in which the phonemes ś and ź officially appeared as full-fledged. Thus, the official Montenegrin language is the only South Slavic language and the third, next to Polish and Lower Sorbian, to have in its phonemic stock the soft spirants analyzed in the paper. The purpose of this analysis is to present and compare Polish and Montenegrin spirants ś and ź in terms of genetic description and their contemporary status. Such a comparison does not ignore dialectal contexts.

Under the long-term influence of Albanian, the Shtokavian migrant dialect in Fier and the vicinity (originally the Novi Pazar-Sjenica-Tutin area) has significantly reduced the use of infinitives in verbal complements of modals. Subjunctives have mostly replaced infinitives in these contexts, bringing the dialect closer to Balkan Slavic in structural terms.

The article discusses characteristic features of the words kozytać ‘to tickle’, and kozytki ‘tickling’, that have a limited, regional distribution in Slavic languages and are present in Belarusian, Russian and Polish. A thorough analysis of dialectal data was conducted in an attempt to identify the origin and geographical markedness of these items. It has been revealed that *kozitati was most frequently used in North Belarus and was most probably a historic Belarusian-Polish innovation.

The article attempts to determine how to classify the verb szczupać ‘to touch, to feel’ that is present in Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian languages and also in the Polish-East Slavic borderland region. As has been revealed by the analysis of documents, linguistic data gathered from historical dictionaries and dictionaries of dialects along with literary sources, the verb in question is an East Slavic borrowing that has been adopted locally in a major part of Poland’s eastern borderland and reinforced by the existence of derivatives.

The article is a successive part of the considerations on language contacts in relation to lexis. Analysed are words characteristic of the Polish‑Eastern Slavic borderland, where it is difficult to unequivocally decide whether they are borrowings, references, or examples of the shared Slavic heritage. The following names were interpreted in this respect: binduga ‘a place by the river where wood is deposited for floating, rafts are made and launched’, chaszcze ‘thicket, bushes, scrub’, chudoba ‘livestock’, chusta ‘a sheet of linen or other clothing fabric’, chusty ‘linen (to be washed)’; chołosznie ‘trousers’, kołosza, chołosza ‘trouser leg’, łukno and ustaw ‘vessels for honey storage’ and at the same time ‘units of measurement of honey’, miękiny ‘chaff’, miękuszka ‘bread pupl’; nawleczka, nawłoka, nawłoczka ‘pillowcase, duvet cover’, ‘furniture cover’; niewiasta, niewiastka ‘daughter‑in‑law’, żmykać ‘hand‑wash’. A detailed tracing of the geography, development of individual forms, directions of the inflow of words discussed in the text shows the multiplicity of ways in which individual lexical items penetrate borderland dialect systems. The most interesting examples are those in which the same development outcome is triggered by completely different phonetic processes.

The article aims to determine the status and origin of the verb pluszczyć in three Slavic languages. The analysis of linguistic data has shown that, in terms of diachronic perspective, the unit under scrutiny is a semantic innovation that is common to Belarusian, Ukrainian and Polish (the Mazovian dialect), but has a slightly different character in each of these languages. While in Belarusian pluszczyć belongs to the lexical inventory of literary language, in Ukrainian it appears rather occassionally, but in Polish it is a regionalism (Podlasie) that can be synchronically considered as a loanword adopted from Belarusian.

Докладът разглежда произношението на назални гласни като специфично фонетично явления, разпространено днес в южния и в северозападния дял на славянските езици. Разглеждат се примери за назализация в българските говори от различни части на българското езиково землище. Обсъждат се схващанията за произхода на назалите в славянските и в индоевропейските езици във връзка с въпроса за наличието на назализация в съседните на българските селища области, населени с носители на албански, арумънски и гръцки диалекти, в които са отбелязани фонетични явления, сходни със славянския назализъм.
The paper considers the pronunciation of nasal vowels as a specific phonetic phenomenon prevailing in the Southern and NorthWestern parts of the Slavic language region. Examples of nasalization in the Bulgarian dialects from different parts where Bulgarian is spoken, have been considered. Conceptions about the origin of nasals in the Slavic languages and in the Indo-European languages are discussed in connection with the issue of nasalization in the neighbouring Bulgarian settlements, inhabited by speakers of Albanian, Aromanian and Greek dialects, in which phonetic phenomena similar to Slavic nasalisation have been noted.

Na podstawie nazw kwiatów – niezabudka ‘niezapominajka’ i wasilek, wołoszka ‘chaber’ podjęto próbę rozstrzygnięcia problemu metodologicznego, jak traktować niektóre wyrazy gwarowe występujące na pograniczu polsko-wschodniosłowiańskim. Autorzy starają się odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy wybrane jednostki leksykalne interpretować z punktu widzenia zapożyczeń, czy też uznawać je za kontynuacje dawnej wspólnoty słowiańskiej.Jednoznaczne rozstrzygnięcie tego zagadnienia wymaga bardzo szczegółowych, wręcz drobiazgowych dociekań i ekscerpcji różnych źródeł – począwszy od słowników historycznojęzykowych przez monografie gwarowe, po publikacje z zakresu geografii językowej. Przedstawione nazwy na ogół pojawiają się dość sporadycznie w polskich gwarach na pograniczu wschodnim. Wydaje się, że trzeba tu przyjąć oddziaływanie również wschodniosłowiańskich języków literackich
Names of flowers such as niezabudka ‘forget-me-not’ and wasilek, wołoszka ‘cornflower’ are helpful in resolving a methodological problem of how to treat some subdialectal words used in the Polish-East Slavic Borderland. The author attempts to resolve whether the selected lexical items should be interpreted as lexical borrowings or as continuations of an earlier Slavic community.An unambiguous resolution of this issue requires very detailed, meticulous research and excerption of various sources, ranging from dictionaries of language history through subdialect monographs to publications on linguistic geography. The above names are generally infrequent in Polish subdialects spoken in the Eastern Borderlands. It seems that the influence of the Eastern Slavic literary languages should also be taken into account.

The article attempts to differentiate, on the basis of selected words recorded in the Polish-East Slavic borderland, whether we are dealing with language loans or old references. The analysis takes into account e.g. ethymological, morphological and geographical criteria. The study focuses on the following words: cot ‘an even number’, czapigi, czepigi ‘plough handle’, had ‘an abominable animal’ and hydzić się ‘loathe’, ‘abhor’, ‘denigrate’, kosiec ‘scyther’, liszka ‘an odd number’, liszny/liszni ‘superfluous’, ‘supernumerary’, przewiąsło ‘a straw belt to tie sheaths siewiec ‘sower’, śloza ‘tear’, żeniec ‘harvester’, żenich, żeniuch ‘bridegroom’, ‘fiancé’, żnieja ‘female harvester’. Recognition as borrowings may be based on those word forms where phonetic elements characteristic of other languages, unknown in Polish, occur. Analysis of certain words has revealed the occurrence of Proto-Slavic and all- -Slavic words, preserved in the Polish language as relics, in peripheral areas. In some cases, it is difficult to make clear-cut decisions, because, for example, the stem of the word is a continuation of the Proto-Slavic forms, to be found in the Polish language, while the derivatives are borrowings.

The text discusses words occurring in the Polish-East Slavic borderlands and prevalent in eastern Polish dialects. Differntiation between old references and loans in this area is not always easy. The material presented here is very diverse. In the case of certain words, identifying them as East Slavic loans with an indisputable source is possible, while in the case of others it is diffi cult to identify the direct source of the loan. Among the words recorded in the East Slavic borderlands we can fi nd those whose range in Polish dialects seems to indicate the possibility of Ruthenian infl uence; however, their Polish phonetic form implies their native origin and one should speak about an old reference in this respect. We also encounter Pan-Slavic words, where a doubt arises as to whether they are loans or old references in Polish in the East Slavic area and Eastern Poland.

A subject of the paper Substantive Declension in Slavic Linguistic Atlas is based on an extensive fi eld research of the Dialects of all Slavic languages. The territory of the research is delimited by the international Slavistic project Slavic Linguistic Atlas the database of which is formed by answers to 3400 questions within 853 localities of the overall Slavic territory. However, not all the forms of all the substantive paradigms are presented, but only the selected representative phenomena testifying to the natural constitutive processes of the national languages in connection with the phonetic changes proving the specifi c character of the linguistic development under the infl uence of a genetically homogeneous or heterogeneous environment and testifying to linguistic changes as results of intercultural, inter-lingual and probably also inter-confessional infl uences. The fi nal part of the publication is oriented upon the constitutive processes of substantive declination in the Slavic macro-areas (South-Slavic, West-Slavic, and East-Slavic – and within them also in the particular Slavic languages) from the point of view of “otherness” and “foreignness”, i.e. from the point of view of the original and non-original grammatical endings in the particular declension types. The genuine basis of the transgression from the original domestic elements to the new ones gets manifested not only within the adaptation processes of the lexical level, but its basis is hidden in the long-term stabilization processes, in systemic changes by which the inner structure of the language, the area of the distribution of changes, and their impact upon the typological substance of the language are modifi ed. By its interpretative character, the paper The Interpretation of Substantive Declension in Slavic Languages aims at integrating the genetic, areal as well as typological aspects of the investigated domain.

The goal of the article is to seek to answer the question how to describe folk lexis on the Slavic borderlands. On the basis of the analysis of different types of Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian dictionaries, the author draws a conclusion that differential dictionaries that contain lexis from dialect areas of different dialectal classification do not show objective linguistic reality. He suggests that the description of lexis made according to the criterion of the opposition between dialect and literary language should be replaced by the opposition between a dialect and other dialects within one national language.
