    If viewed from a purely linguistic standpoint, rhyme belongs to the phoneticphonological and lexical levels of natural language. It draws on two basic linguistic planes: the plane of expression and the plane of content, which are inextricably linked and closely interwoven. The ways of formal linking of rhyming units result in the creation of different forms of rhyme, where the formal properties of rhyming range from complete to partial correspondence of the rhyming phonological material. This results in the creation of various forms of rhyme, such as the following: tautological (lexical) rhyme, homonymic (homographic) rhyme, echo-rhyme, prefixal rhyme and suffixal rhyme. Each of these kinds of rhyme, except the suffixal, expresses one semantic category, while the suffixal rhyme potentially includes five semantic categories: (1) lexical synonymy; (2) contextual synonymy; (3) lexical antonymy; (4) contextual antonymy and (5) multifarious meanings. The analysis of these semantic categories (all the nine of them) is limited by the scope of this paper, and includes one example from Serbian poetry for each of the identified semantic categories respectively. Our analysis has demonstrated that the semantic function of rhyme depends directly on the type of form (the kind of rhyme), i.e., on the way of structuring the phonological (sound) material in the rhyming of lexical units.

    The goal of this article is to interpret the two motifs indicated in the title which intertwine in the poetic series Of the Works of Love, or Byzantium by Ivan V. Lalić, a Serbian poet. Perception of Byzantium as a reality which, having reached perfection, is annihilated and of love as a meaning-giving category connects with a coherent vision in the author’s entire work. The reflections presented in this article provide an impetus to comprehend the series in question, and Lalić’s entire poetry.

    The paper aims to present two models of unorthodox Christianityrelated religious experience in the poetry of two twentieth-century Serbian authors: Ivan V. Lalić (1931–1996) and Miodrag Pavlović (1928–2014). In their works, both poets reflect on the existential situation of contemporary humans by reinterpreting cultural texts from antiquity to modern times. This paper is a comparative analysis of their poems that refer to Christian texts, including the Bible as well as Byzantine and Orthodox literature. In Lalić’s poetry, especially in the books The letter/The writing (Pismo, 1992) and The four canons (Četiri kanona, 1996), God is presented as capricious and unpredictable, yet silent and mostly absent. The lyrical subject feels doubt, enhanced by the experience of death and evanescence; nevertheless, love inspires him to constantly search for a relationship with God. However, the effort of faith seems to have only one direction and depends exclusively on the subject’s will. Pavlović plays an ironic game in his works with Christian texts of culture, especially in the book The bright and the dark holidays (Svetli i tamni praznici, 1971), in which the sacred constantly mixes with the profane. The rebellious and blasphemous approach to Christian texts that is represented by the lyrical subject is not a mere negation of the traditional idea of holiness. Most of all, it can be understood as an attempt not only to overcome classical oppositions in thinking about the world and humanity, among which there is a dichotomy between the immanent and the transcendent, but it is also an attempt to rearrange the whole of reality. In poems by Lalić and Pavlović, modern consciousness is in throes with the experience of transcendence.

    The aim of this paper is to show that hermeneutics and the theory of intertextuality provide useful tools for the research in post-war Serbian modernism in poetry. The argumentation takes two steps. Firstly, the use of these methods is being legitimized in the context of general characteristics of the literature under consideration. Secondly, the functioning of such tools is presented in the example of a particular text, which in this case is Deset sonata nerođenoj kćeri ['Ten Sonnets for The Unborn Daughter'], a poetic cycle by Ivan V. Lalić. The kind of poetry researched in this paper is strongly influenced by the ideas of T. S. Eliot who said that an original literary work is the result of the author’s awareness of his place in tradition. For this reason such poetry contains numerous cultural and literary references which are an inevitable context of its interpretation. A hermeneutic and intertextual approach helps to expose such references and make them part of the process of understanding the poetry in question.
    Zadaniem pracy jest wykazanie, że hermeneutyka i teoria intertekstualności dostarczają narzędzi do badania poezji powojennego modernizmu serbskiego. Argumentacja opiera się na uzasadnieniu użycia tych metod najpierw w świetle ogólnej charakterystyki omawianej twórczości, a następnie na podstawie ich funkcjonowania w interpretacji konkretnego tekstu będącego jej typowym przykładem (cykl Ivana V. Lalicia Deset soneta nerođenoj kćeri). Poezja będąca przedmiotem zainteresowania tej pracy pozostaje pod silnym wpływem poglądów Thomasa S. Eliota, według którego oryginalna twórczość powinna wynikać ze zrozumienia przez autora swojego miejsca w tradycji. To powód występowania w omawianych utworach licznych nawiązań kulturowych i literackich, które stanowią kontekst niezbędny do interpretacji tej twórczości. Podejście hermeneutyczne i metody teorii intertekstualności pozwalają te elementy wydobyć i uwzględnić w rozumieniu sensu tekstu.

    Током друге половине двадесетог века, за разлику од неких ранијих периода, доминира тежња да се животиње у српској поезији представе у „модусу нове дословности“, односно да се ослика њихова реална егзистенција. Овај приступ започео је половином века Васко Попа својим знаменитим циклусом „Списак“. Након њега бројни српски песници наставили су у том смеру. Александар Ристовић је тако у својој поезији створио раскошан бестијаријум, у коме је највише пажње посвећивао сићушним и наизглед неважним животињским врстама. У свом опусу он је истицао и заједничку биолошку основу и једнаку вредност људи и животиња. У делу аутора исте генерације Борислава Радовића, међутим, наилазимо на носталгију савременог урбаног човека за животињским светом. У генерацији песника који су се на српској песничкој сцени афирмисали током седамдесетих година једна од значајних тематских преокупација јесте и животињски свет. Из ове песничке генерације указали смо на стихове Петра Цветковића, који је представио сву сложеност сусрета животињског са људским и Ибрахима Хаџића, који врло често животиње о којима пева хуманизује.
    During the second half of the twentieth century, unlike some earlier periods, the dominant tendency was to present animals in Serbian poetry in the “mode of new literacy”, i.e. to depict their real existence. This approach began in the middle of the century by Vasko Popa with his famous cycle “List”. After him, numerous Serbian poets continued in that direction. Thus, in his poetry, Aleksandar Ristović, created a lavish bestiary in which he paid the most attention to tiny and seemingly trivial animal species. In his opus, he emphasized the common biological basis and the equal value of humans and animals. However, in the work of the author of the same generation, Borislav Radović, we come across the nostalgia of modern urban man for the animal world. In the generation of poets who affirmed themselves on the Serbian poetry scene during the seventies, one of the important thematic preoccupations was the animal world. From this generation of poets, we pointed out the verses of Petar Cvetković, who presented all the complexity of the animal’s encounter with the human, and Ibrahim Hadžić, who very often humanized the animals he wrote about.

    In this paper the author is dealing with combinations of tense forms in Serbian folk epic poetry and he statistically proves that the present tense is the predominant tense form in this kind of Serbian folk poetry. He is trying to discover the main reasons for such use of the present tense. As regards combinations of tense forms in Serbian folk epic poetry, they are rather free and depend, primarily, on the manner of presenting the epic content and on the length of the poem, but there is above all a certain regularity resulting in firm systems.

    This text deals with the anthologies of Serbian contemporary and newest poetry, which appeared in Poland in the last twenty-eight years. Four publications by four different authors and translators present the wealth of Serbian poetry composed by several generations of poets. Each of the anthologies presents a different image of Serbian poetry, thus showing its great diversity. Thanks to these publications, many names appeared in Poland for the first, yet not the last, time - as shown in the subsequent Bibliographies printed in the “Translation of Slavic Literatures”.

    У раду се аналитичким методом указује на домете и импликације Павловићевог проучавања српске усмене и средњовековне књижевности. Притом, текст настоји да овај сегмент његове есејистике представи и у контексту ширег Павловићевог есејистичког, али и песничког опуса, истичући њихово плодно и разноврсно кореспондирање. Његови есеји у функцији су смисаоног и вредносног осветљавања наших најстаријих књижевних слојева, чиме се до краја уобличава представа о књижевно-историјском распону српске поезије и искуство јединственог духовног континуитета. Павловићеви Огледи о народној и старој српској поезији представљају пример како ширина интересовања, импресиван интелект, ерудитна компетенција, отворен и откривалачки дух, али и незаобилазан уметнички сензибилитет и неретко поетска експресија, постају замајац нових читања и тумачења, сасвим сигурно драгоцених за будуће генерације читалаца и изучавалаца.
    Using the analytical method, the paper points to the extents and implications of Pavlović’s research of Serbian verbal folk and medieval literature. Along with this, the paper tries to present this segment of his essayistic work in the context of the wider Pavlović’s essayistic and poetic opus as well, emphasizing their prolific and versatile corresponding. His essays are in a function of thoughtful and evaluating reflections of our oldest literature strata, which eventually shapes up the image about literature and historical span of Serbian poetry and the experience of a unique spiritual continuity. Pavlović’s Essays on Folk and Old Serbian Poetry (orig. Ogledi o narodnoj i staroj srpskoj poeziji) represent an example of how broadness of interests, an impressive intelect, erudite competency, an open and explorative spirit, but also inevitable artistic sensibility and frequent poetic expression become a trigger for new readings and interpretations surely valuable for new generations of readers and researchers.

    У овом тексту аутора интересује проблем пољске књижевности у Србији и српске књижевности у Пољској. Већина превода који су се појавили у Србији 2015. године представљају наставак претходних издања или су то нови, савременији преводи већ познатих дела на издавачком тржишту Србије. 2015. година је донела 23 књиге (без иједне збирке песама) и 17 песама у разним часописима. Српска књижевност је била слабо представљена у овом периоду — само два стрипа, две антологије поезије и двадесет три песме су биле објављене. Према томе, није било ни једне публикације прозе. Ово постаје тенденција, јер као и у 2014. години, није био објављен нити један превод српске прозе на пољском издавачком тржишту.
    The text analyses the issue of Polish literature in Serbia and Serbian literature in Poland. Most of the translations that appeared in Serbia in 2015 were reprints of previous editions or new, contemporized translations of works already known in the Serbian publishing market. The year 2015 saw 23 book publications (without any volume of poetry) and 17 poems in various magazines. Serbian literature was poorly represented in the discussed time — only two comics, two anthologies of poetry and 23 poems were published. Consequently, there was not a single prose publication. This is a tendency, as in 2014, not a single translation of Serbian prose in Polish publishing market appeared.

    Чланак подсећа на збирку превода српских народних песама познату под насловом Српске народне песме коју је Роман Змoрски припремио (т.ј. превео све текстове на пољски језик) и двапут издао — 1853. и 1855. године. Колекција народног стваралаштва која се овде разматра, истовремено служи као повод за размишљање о суштини превода књижевног текста, о његовој транслацији и вредности у комуникативном контексту, а такође о улози преводиоца у процесу спајања двају аксиолошких и културних система — тзв. основног и одредишног система. У чланку се приказује преводилачка делатност у деветнаестом веку, дакле разматра се историја и традиција рецепције српског народног песништва у пољској култури. Размишљање се концентрише на превод као интеркултурни, комуникативни фе‑ номен, као намеран процес преношења текста из једног у други културни простор. Дакле, овде се истиче превод са различитих страна, он се разматра из књижевноисторијског, кул‑ турног, дијалошког, релационог аспекта. Он се приказује као културно ‑друштвена појава, као хотимичан процес ибора, стратегијске операције, ауторске (преводилачке) интерпре‑ тације и комуникације
    In the article, the collection of Serbian folklore song translations, entitled Serbian Folk Songs, is regarded. The collection itself was prepared and published in 1853 and 1855 by Roman Zmorski. Located in the centre of consideration, it also becomes a pretext for a reflection on the essence of a literary text’s translation along with its communicational aspect and the role of the translator in the process of the fusion concerning two axiological systems, two cultural horizons — the initial one and the final one. Furthermore, the article serves to present a traditional translation in the nineteenth century: the reception of South Slavonic (Serbian) folklore poetry. The considerations dedicated to the translation theme and the translator’s role concentrate not on the philological is‑ sues themselves, but rather on the broadly comprehended intercultural phenomenon which means a process and the result of a transposition of the text from one cultural realm to the other. Besides the exposition of the translation meaning in the relational, dialogical aspect, its fundamental con‑ ditions are emphasized. They refer to the historical and cultural contexts, sources’ selection, and intentional operation on the primary text together with its translation understood as a specific sort of interpretation and communication.
