Kształcenie dziennikarzy i ludzi mediów ma istotny wpływ na system medialny, a także pośrednio wpływa na system polityczny. Polskie badania medioznawcze nie ograniczają się jedynie do współpracy instytucjonalnej i udziału w konferencjach – ich efektem są m.in. publikacje na łamach czasopism naukowych oraz tworzenie międzynarodowych zespołów badawczych. Wielu polskich uczonych pracuje w zagranicznych ośrodkach uniwersyteckich. Efekty tych badań są uzależnione od wielkości środków kierowanych na naukę, a ponieważ są one niewystarczające, dlatego niezbędna jest koordynacja badań i wyznaczenie ich najważniejszych kierunków.
Educating journalists and media workers has a significant influence on the media and political system. Polish media studies’ research is not restricted merely to institutional cooperation and participation in conferences but also takes form of scientifi c publications and the existence international research teams. Many Polish scholars work at foreign universities. Effects of the research depend on the funds directed towards science. These funds are scant, therefore coordination of research and setting its most important directions becomes essential.

Science at the state level consists of two distinct and heterogeneous systems: the global science system and national science systems. National science systems are deeply embedded in global science, and states seek to use global knowledge for domestic economic needs. However, harnessing the wealth of global knowledge can only be done through scientists. Consequently, the scientific strength of states in practice depends on the scientific strength of individual scientists. Their ability to collaborate internationally and to tap into the global scientific network is crucial. By remaining outside it and working within local research programs, the academic community risks being marginalized, losing the interest of national research funding patrons, and losing the ability to influence the development of science.

W Polsce, podobnie jak w wielu innych krajach europejskich, mamy do czynienia z postępującym procesem starzenia się społeczeństwa. Problem nie omija również województwa świętokrzyskiego, w tym miasta Kielce. Obecnie 19,6% ludności Kielc, a więc niemal co piąty mieszkaniec miasta, ma więcej niż 65 lat. W związku z dużą skalą tego zjawiska oraz poważnymi konsekwencjami, jakie za sobą niesie, pomoc ludziom starszym stanowi znaczący obszar działania instytucji pomocy społecznej - Miejskiego Ośrodka Pomocy Rodzinie w Kielcach. W Rejonie Opiekuńczym „Barwinek–Baranówek” do najczęściej udzielanych form pomocy osobom starszym należą: usługi opiekuńcze bądź specjalistyczne usługi opiekuńcze, obiady barowe, opał z dowozem, przyznanie miejsca pobytu w placówkach wsparcia dziennego, a także zasiłki finansowe. Dużą rolę odgrywa także praca socjalna na rzecz osób starszych, w zakres której wchodzą: przekazywanie informacji, udzielanie porad, aktywizacja, interwencja kryzysowa, terapia, rozwiązywanie konfliktów, mediacje, wsparcie psychologiczne, pomoc w załatwianiu spraw urzędowych, udzielanie wsparcia dla członków rodziny i opiekunów i wiele innych działań. Praca socjalna na rzecz seniorów polega także na podejmowaniu działań zmierzających do uruchomienia możliwości tkwiących w seniorach celu poprawy ich sytuacji.
In Poland, as in many other European countries, the progressing aging of the society can be observed. This issue gains prominence also in the Świętokrzyskie region, particularly in the city of Kielce. Currently 19.6 percent of the population of Kielce, or every fifth person in the city, is over sixty five years old. Due to the large scale of this phenomenon and its far-reaching consequences, helping the elderly is the fundamental idea of the state aid institution MOPR in Kielce. In the Barwinek-Baranówek district the most common forms of help for the elderly are: general care or specialist care, dinners, providing winter fuel, providing a place in daytime care facilities and also financial aid. A large role is played by informing and advising, intervention, therapy, helping to deal with conflict, mediation, psychological support, help with paper work, giving aid to families and guardians and many other actions. Social work for the elderly is also based upon taking action to activate seniors to improve their situation.

In the article I am dealing with the issue of unscientific depreciation of pedagogy as a science, which manifests itself either in the lack of reliable scientific criticism of dissertations in this discipline or the escape of some educators into politics to implement their own social intervention projects. The dispute about the scientific nature of pedagogy arises from various research traditions, scientific schools, so the author presents several such methodological approaches, whose creators emphasize the criteria of scientificity and indicate the resulting limitations and their incomparability. Meanwhile, self-awareness of the academic criteria of pedagogy is important in the way of reviewing the scientific achievements of young academic staff. Based on reviews in post-habilitation proceedings, I present various types of arguments in favor of the unscientific status of someone’s research and the reaction of those whose publications are reviewed.

"Zielona Góra Library Science Studies" has been published since 2002 by Regional and Municipal Cyprian Norwid’s Public Library in Zielona Gora. The first four notebooks of this scientific periodical were historico-bibliographical monographies, tightly connected with the regional problematics. In the first volume Grzegorz Chmielewski presented the history of Polish folk libraries on the West border, in the second one - Janusz Rećko prepared the detailed description of Włodzimierz Korsak’s archives, in the third one - Dawid Kotlarek juxtaposed the bibliography of Zielona Gora in the German writings until 1945, in the next volume Jarosław Kuczer worked out the collection of correspondence by Hermina von Reuss. In 2013 "Zielona Gora Library Science Studies" were transformed in the yearbook that appeared as the collection of scientific articles written by different authors connected with the most important centers of science and cultural institution in Poland. The presented texts were previously announced on the Library Science’s conversatories organized by Regional and Municipal Cyprian Norwid’s Public Library in Zielona Gora.
„Zielonogórskie Studia Bibliotekoznawcze” są wydawane od 2002 r. przez Wojewódzką i Miejską Bibliotekę Publiczną im. Cypriana Norwida w Zielonej Górze. Cztery pierwsze zeszyty tego naukowego periodyku były monografiami o charakterze historyczno-bibliograficznym, silnie związane z tematyką regionalną. W numerze pierwszym Grzegorz Chmielewski przedstawił historię polskich bibliotek ludowych na pograniczu zachodnim, w drugim - Janusz Rećko sporządził szczegółowy opis archiwaliów Włodzimierza Korsaka, w trzecim - Dawid Kotlarek zestawił bibliografię Zielona Góra w niemieckim piśmiennictwie do roku 1945, a w kolejnym Jarosław Kuczer opracował zbiory korespondencji Herminy von Reuss. W 2013 r. przekształcono „Zielonogórskie Studia Bibliotekoznawcze” w rocznik, ukazujący się jako zbiór artykułów naukowych różnych autorów, związanych z najważniejszymi ośrodkami naukowymi i instytucjami kultury w Polsce. Zamieszczane teksty były wcześniej wygłaszane na Konwersatoriach Bibliotekoznawczych organizowanych przez Wojewódzką i Miejską Bibliotekę Publiczną w Zielonej Górze.

Kazimierz Guzik (1911-1970), Polish geologist, graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Cracow, employee of the National Geological Institute and professor at the University of Warsaw. He was the organizer of one of the first soil mechanics laboratories in Poland, an expert in engineering geology and cartography, a pioneer in ground and aerial photogeology. He was a researcher of the tectonics of the Tatra Mts. and the Carpathians, and the co-author of the first detailed geological map of the Polish Tatras.

Artykuł jest oparty na korespondencji między Udo Wid’em i Karin Hofer a Łukaszem Guzkiem i Anką Lesniak. Dotyczy przygotowań do spotkania i konferencji w Dreźnie (Ostrale). Jest to przykład wymiany poglądów i tworzenia teorii w zamkniętej grupie (echo chamber). Jest także przykładem tego, jak w praktyce przebiega produkcja wiedzy w naukach humanistycznych oraz jaka rolę mogą odegrać badania artystyczne. Tak więc nowa dyscyplina Art(istic) research wykorzystuje metody artystyczne do tworzenia wiedzy o świecie, podczas gdy przyszłe ArtStudies prawdopodobnie będą wykorzystywać metody epistemiczne do tworzenia wiedzy o sztuce. Oba mogą się uzupełniać.
The article is based on the correspondence between Udo Wid and Karin Hofer and Łukasz Guzek and Anka Lesniak. Concerns preparations for meetings and conferences in Dresden (Ostrale). This is an example of exchanging views and creating theories in a closed group (echo chamber). It is also an example of how the production of knowledge in the humanities works in practice and what role artistic research can play. So the new discipline of Art (istic) Research uses artistic methods to produce knowledge about the world, while future ArtStudies will probably use epistemic methods to produce knowledge about art. Both perhaps will complement each other.

A discussion addresses general problems associated with studying science fiction narratives today. What does it take to make a believable illusion of the scientific out of literary fiction? What are the most contemporary views on the genre and its multiple iterations? Is it still a genre? This article focuses on the social world of the commercial whale watch cruise. It draws on several years of participant observation research with marine field scientists, particularly field scientists who serve as naturalists on commercial whale watch cruises. Using Erving Goffman’s work, the essay details how the naturalist’s narration is an example of “cooling the mark out” that Goffman conceptually outlined and others have explored. In the social world of the commercial whale watch, the naturalist is the “operator and the tourist the mark”. It is argued that the naturalist’s narration is the principal means for cooling the tourists’ out. This is done within a context of the operator anticipating a set of spoiled expectations the tourist is likely to experience. While this essay extends the work of Goffman and others who have explored different settings of the cooling out process, it substantially differs from them. Past studies have focused on the cooling out process primarily within a context of individual face-to-face interaction. This essay looks at the commercial whale watch as a social setting of cooling out the mark not on a face-to-face basis but as a process of a “group of individuals who are being “cooled”. Most importantly, this is viewed as occurring not after they have been conned or duped but in anticipation of their likely experiencing a set of spoiled expectations.

Nakreśliwszy kulturowe, ekonomiczne i transmedialne aspekty rzeczonego zwrotu, autor porusza problem dyskryminacji fantasy, science fiction oraz nurtów pokrewnych w akademickim piśmiennictwie teoretycznoliterackim XX i XXI wieku w Polsce. Celem tego jest przekierowanie uwagi teorii literatury na ignorowane dotąd aspekty twórczości artystycznej, takie jak choćby światotwórstwo (w miejsce fabułotwórstwa), imersja (w miejsce uważnego czytania) i performatywna światogra (w miejsce traktowania świata jako tła wydarzeń fabularnych). Wszystkie te zjawiska postuluje się włączyć w obręb postklasycznych studiów narratologicznych wykorzystywanych do analizy fantasy, science fiction oraz innych form fantastyki na przestrzeni różnych mediów.
The article introduces the reader to the phenomenon of the so-called world-centeredness as well as to the world-centered turn in contemporary narrative theory. Having delineated cultural, economic, and transmedial aspects of the turn in question, the author discusses the problem of academic discrimination against fantasy, science fiction, and similar genres in Polish literary theory of the 20th and 21st centuries. This aims for redirecting the focus of literary theory towards more neglected aspects of artistic production such as world-building (instead of storytelling), immersion (instead of closereading), and performatic worldplay (instead of backgrounding the diegetic world). All these new phenomena are suggested for inclusion in postclassical narrative studies applied to analysing fantasy, science fiction, and other forms of fantastika across the media.
