Opis:
Transport is generally an instrument for globalization. It is not possible to use transport as an instrument for de-globalization. For compensating the negative effects of globalization on regional and local markets, a world-wide sustainable development process is to be started. This is an idea propagated by United Nations since the publishing of the Brundtland-Report. Sustainability has three components: the social, the ecological and the economic sustainability. Economic sustainability is realized when the (transport) enterprises make no profits and setting the prices is following a price-wage-rule. This rule postulates that the price and wage have to be equal. However, transport can also set incentives for social and ecological sustainability. Transport is no instrument for de-globalization, but an important instrument for compensating the negative effects of globalization. The measures which transport policy has to realize sustainability are not new, but we need to a new world-wide concept for transport policy. We have to accept, that the world is one economic area and not more than two hundred areas. We need only one set of economic rules and not over hundred different sets of rules.

Companies are increasingly implementing sustainable solutions as they face a growing sustainability demands from different stakeholders. The question is whether car manufacturers adhered to sustainable production principles and at what level they are doing it in practice. The Lowell Center for Sustainable Production (LCSP) is used as a model to analyse the main aspects of sustainable production and assess the companies in the automotive sector in European Union. The data was collected from the Corporate Social Responsibility/ Sustainability reports of the individual car manufacturers found in the online data base of Global Reporting Initiative. Empirical evidence shows the adherence of these companies to the LCSP sustainable production principles. All the studied companies seem to be conscious of the significance of sustainability for the automotive industry. Although most of the sustainable production practices are focused on the environmental dimension of sustainability, employee and social aspects are not ignored in the reports.

Opis:
This papers aim is to focus on the specifications of the intermodal services in Slovakia (partly also in the Czech Republic and Austria) as representative of Central Europe as well as on the existing and potential clients of intermodal transport through the region of Southeast Europe. The analysed market has enough potential to offer intermodal services. Currently, the competitive situation compared to road transport is very unsatisfactory. Yet, it is hardly possible to realize a good revenue situation with intermodal transports. Nevertheless, the paper identifies three areas in question where potential was analysed by doing literature researches as well as using expert opinions. New intermodal services from the Adriatic port to Slovakia as well as between between Central Europe (Slovakia) and the southern CIS counties, e.g. Russia have been identified. In addition, new intermodal services into the direction of Romania and respectively Turkey show enough potential to establish several strategies to enhance the transport level within the whole corridor. Especially Turkey is characterized as "chance" for the area in question.

Opis:
Preparing a sustainability report becomes more and more popular among a wide range of branches including shipping and seaports. For majority of Polish ports preparing a formal CSR strategy is a new challenge. The aim of this article was to compare the way that selected European seaports chose to report and identify the most important topics of their sustainable activity. In order to answer the research questions the multi-case study of selected European ports was prepared. The strategy and identified topics at seaports that have prepared sustainability reports can be used in benchmarking process. Such a comparison can help Polish seaports avoid mistakes in preparing such reports by themselves in the future. The analysis showed that the most important sustainability topics are connected with employment and air emission. There were also themes specific for seaports activity like maintaining the water depths. Involvement the port stakeholders in prioritization process made the topics order suited all parties concerned in port operations.

Opis:
Sustainability report is the gathering of sustainability information in a systematic and presentable way such that an easy comparison with the past and progress concerning the target is possible, for the improvement in environmental, social and economic aspects of the company. The nature of sustainability information has witnessed a tremendous variation reflecting the changing political and environmental scenario. Last three decades has witnessed the inception of different non-governmental organisations striving for sustainability, frameworks for sustainability reports and changing formats of reporting. Altogether sustainability reporting has now became a brand tag, believed to have improving the reputation of the company among the stakeholders. Further opportunities have invited business models in sustainability resulted in top consulting firms and hundreds of new companies working towards it. With the fast moving world and more competition, sustainability reporting is experiencing shift in trends and experimentation which has invited great responsiveness of companies as well as stakeholders. This paper is a journey through the routes sustainability reporting has already covered, and exploring the paths of journey ahead.

Opis:
Research background: Health and environmental concerns linked to food production and consumption have become crucial both for policy makers and for consumers for modern society. Some consumers are becoming increasingly careful about what they eat, giving value to the impacts of everyday food choices on their health and on the environment. There have been few studies that have jointly analyzed these consumption patterns and that have looked for their association. Purpose of the article: The objective of the study is to develop a Polish (PL) and Czech (Cz) young-adult consumers' segmentation based on health and environ-mental attitudes and values in food choices. The research is needed to diagnose consumption trends in this segment of the market to enable creating a market offer tailored to this group of consumers. Methods: A total of 631 students from two Universities - one in Poland (University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (323)) and on in the Czech Republic (University of South Bohemia (308)) were selected to participate in the research. The sample of students was chosen because of the importance of young-adult consumers as the participants of the market with a specified purchasing potential. The data were collected through a survey questionnaire, in which a Likert type scale was used to determine the health and environmental attitudes and values in food choices. The results obtained were analyzed statistically using Statistica 13.1 using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) with Varimax rotation, cluster analysis using the k-means method and ANOVA. Findings & Value added: The survey demonstrated that the students presented both health and environmental attitudes, and that their food choices were driven to a lesser extent by the environmental than by the health-related values. Results demonstrated that the two distinguished factors significantly differentiated both the Polish and the Czech students into two clusters, with the first cluster being represented by consumers presenting stronger health and environmental attitudes (PL N=58%, Cz N=48%) compared to the students from the second cluster. It adds value to recent young consumers' behavior knowledge by jointly analyzing their attitudes toward health and environmental values in food choices. These findings may be useful in developing effective educational and marketing campaigns and understanding the demand for certain products.

According to the economics of welfare the need (or necessity) for state intervention starts when people experience market failures [Pigou, 1920], the goal and reason for state intervention is usually to develop the welfare of people. Studies of actual state interventions show that not only the market but state interventions can fail as well [Wolf, 1988]. The rehabilitation and revitalization of the unused industrial sites represent new development possibilities and a serious challenge to public policies. The question is how to minimize the cost of industrial changes, when industry has lost its function in some areas and it had a negative effect on people. In my study I will try to show the value of the effect and success of these policies without which economic growth is impossible, and which make brown field investments sustainable. In my opinion rehabilitation requires an interdisciplinary approach and one need to pay special attention to the rule of the local and country governance, and the ways of redistribution and financial support both from the European Union and the national state. For long term sustainability it is essential to avert the environmental damage, but without any government help it will not be successful and sustainable.

Sustainable resources utilization is very actual issue considered in three dimensions: economic, social and environmental. Products end-of-life management is a key element of sustainable development. Automotive industry is a big supplier of different kinds of waste. End-of-life vehicles are becoming problem in most of the Member Countries. Poland is a country with one of the oldest vehicles feet in EU. It results in a growing trend of the number of old and worn cars, which need to be dismantled and recovered. The objective of this paper is to present an assessment of sustainability in disassembly station. Authors present theoretical background of research, case study description and complex analyses of dismantling process in one of the biggest dismantling stations in Poland with application of following tools: VSM maps, diagram SIPOC and RPA method. The analysis allows to identify main problems which exist in this field and to propose some improvement measures in order to improve the sustainability of dismantling operations

The basis of such innovation is knowledge concerning life sciences.
Dokonano krytycznej analizy wybranych definicji biogospodarki.

Environment, ecosystem, greenhouse effect emissions, public health, energy, sustainable development. This is an incomplete list of elements that are part of our daily lives, which show today’s human footprint responsibility over the health of the planet. Although these issues have been for decades on all policy statements on development the situation is not improving. Indeed, constantly, we are called to change our lifestyle and our models of well-being that are causing an exaggerated and increasing waste of energy and resources, along with the increase of the overall impact of human species on natural systems. I do believe the environment is a resource that has been exploited and neglected for too long, however I am also convinced that excessive (ab)use of certain terms, such as the concept of sustainability, has weakened its driving force and innovation. There is no doubt that the thematic areas related to the monitoring of environmental quality and sustainable development dominate the cultural and socio-economic scenery for the articulation program design and governance of the territory, but the risk we are running today is to flatten themes of 'environment only for propaganda or even worse for the market. The report is a reasoning on innovation, technology and the complexity that now accompanies any work of transformation and that should lead to a "possible future”.

Innovative production techniques require an efficient utilization of human, material and energetic resources to ensure competitive manufacturing positions. The aim of modern industrial production processes is to provide products with a higher added value in a shorter time-to-market. On the other hand, shorter life cycles of products are contrary to the necessity of expanded service time of manufacturing systems. Moreover, the whole life cycle of products is accompanied by customer related service provisions. Flexible and adaptive as well as self-organising means of production are a considerable key to solve this conflict of objectives. Here, man with specific technological knowledge has to be integrated with it's permanently newly defined role in production. This paper presents production technology related new developments and strategies to fulfil the requirements of sustainable manufacturing.
