With the development of DC distribution system within the isolated power system of a ship or an aircraft, more constant frequency loads will be supplied by inverters connected to DC main bus. In the operating mode conversion process of an isolated power system, inverters will inevitably suffer from serious disturbance and affect the stability of the system. Therefore, it is important to establish a model of the inverter that reflects its dynamic characteristics and based on which to conduct the stability analysis. This paper proposes a 12-pulse inverter model based on the generalized state space averaging (GSSA) method. This model can overcome the limitations of 12-pulse inverter state space averaging (SSA) model in transient analysis with good accuracy and fast analysis ability effectively. Three kinds of models for a 12-pulse aircraft inverter are built in MATLAB, namely GSSA model, SSA model and detail device model. The simulation results show the high accuracy of GSSA model in stability analysis. This study provides an effective analytical tool for stability analysis of 12-pulse inverter and also provides a reference for inverter modeling research of isolated power system such as in aircraft or ship.

Increasing cost of rotorcraft maintenance forces transport companies to utilize their rotorcraft fleet to the fullest. This means that the most successful rotorcraft production company is the one that can provide rotorcraft that can operate in wider range of weather conditions than competition. Air transport authorities define requirements for both rotorcraft performance during flight in icing conditions and reliability of ice accretion protection systems. At the same time production company management requires that production, and development costs are as low as possible. This paper will focus on problems of meeting requirements of rotorcraft ice protection systems reliability using various types of reliability analyses that will help keep the system as simple and inexpensive as possible and are required in certification process of ice protection system.

Scholars and practitioners concerned with geoinformation, cyber cartography, development studies, and other subjects increasingly explore crowdsourcing and its huge advantages for development. Some have advocated it for adoption/promotion by government as a means of citizen engagement. The objective of this article is to increase the appreciation of the contribution that crowdsourcing can make towards resolving challenges associated with disadvantaged urbanisation in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). We review urban challenges of SSA and three practices of crowdsourcing: volunteered geographic information (VGI), Citizen Science (CS), and Participatory Mapping (PM). Then we examine problems associated with the advocacy for government adoption of those practices in SSA. We argue that civil society collaboration with an international governmental organisation (IGO) instead of government promises a better way of adopting and promoting them. This suggestion is based on the fact that work related to this strategy is carried out by a global coalition of civil society, the UN-NGLS. This strategy promises a more rapid way of taking advantage of fast-tracking public engagement in the economic region, SSA.

In the recent times, lot of research work carried out in the field of fuel cells explicitly divulges that it has the potential to be an ultimate power source in upcoming years. The fuel cell has more storing capacity, which enables to use in heavy power applications. In these applications, power conditioning is more vital to regulate the output voltage. Hence, we need a dc-dc converter to provide a constant regulated output voltage for such high-power system. Currently, many new converters were designed and implemented as per the requirement. This paper has made comparative study on several topologies of the quadratic high gain dc-dc converter and the applications where these topologies can be used when the fuel cell is given as a source. Also, we have compared various parameters of all the converters considered and generated the results with steady-state and dynamic study. In this article, we briefed the types of analysis carried on the dc-dc converter to study its performance. Moreover, various application of fuel cell is presented and discussed. This paper will be a handbook to the researchers who start to work on high gain dc-dc converter topologies with quadratic boost converter as a base. This article will also guide the engineers to concentrate on the fuel cell components where it needs to be explored for optimizing its operation.

Niniejsze opracowanie prezentuje rezultaty badania wpływu kursu walutowego Chin na bilans handlowy 41 państw Afryki Subsaharyjskiej w latach 1994–2016. Przy zastosowaniu rozszerzonego modelu grawitacyjnego, pogrupowane i niepogrupowane wyniki badania potwierdzają słuszność podejścia elastycznościowego i absorpcyjnego do bilansu handlowego. Podobnie test wrażliwości, dokonany poprzez podział analizowanego okresu na dwa podokresy (2005–2016 i 1994–2004), potwierdza słuszność podejścia elastycznościowego i absorpcyjnego do bilansu handlowego.
This study seeks to investigate theimpactof China’sexchange rate onthe trade balance of 41 Sub‑aharan African countries for the period from 1994 to 2016. Using an augmented gravity model, the grouped and ungrouped results of the study confirm the elasticity and absorption approaches of the trade balance. Similarly, the robustness check, by dividing the sample period into two sub‑eriods (2005–016 and 1994–004), also confirms the elasticity and absorption approaches of the trade balance.

Desagrarization is an ambiguous, multifaceted notion and at the same time difficult to define. As a research subject it concerns mainly agriculture and is generally defined as the process of reducing the contribution of agriculture to the Gross Domestic Product. In terms of spatial changes caused by desagrarization, it is the reduction of agricultural land, increase in fallow land and woodiness, and uncontrolled landscape changes. The article seeks to present the spatial effects of the desagrarization process in the Polish rural areas. The results of the research were achieved by adopting the Shift-Share Analysis. The study confirmed that desagrarization manifests itself in changes both historical and global in character and the state interventionism and Common Agricultural Policy are limited to reducing in time its spatial and economic negative effects.

SDA (Space Domain Awareness) and SSA (Space Situational Awareness – SSA) have been defined as comprehensive knowledge of space objects and the ability to track, understand, and predict their future location. The purpose of the article is to present SSA initiatives to protect space systems, which are now recognized as fundamental assets of the sustainable development of each country. The destruction of even a part of the space infrastructure can have severe consequences for the security of citizens and economic activity. These systems assume the combination of all data obtained by various entities operating in space and Earth to create a common database. The SSA system was created based on the US military programme SDA (Space Domain Awareness); SSA and SDA are almost similar, but SDA is a new term replacing SSA, which existed previously. SDA is a better and improved SSA. Increasingly, the SSA programme is part of national and EU space strategies, but it is not yet possible to include it in international space law.

Space security means safe and permanent access to space and limiting threats coming from there. This definition also includes the security aspects of man-made devices sent into space and of ground stations. Space infrastructure can be described as a network of space and ground systems connected by communication channels and allowing access to space. Today, the largest space powers have begun to consider space as an operational domain of warfare. Space more and more often appears to be a field for competition, which might become an arena of conflict. The aim of this article is to present today’s many law challenges to the security of space infrastructure, such as unintentional threats (space debris, geomagnetic and solar storms, and other random disturbances), intentional threats (ASAT anti-satellite weapons, malicious interference, and cyber-attacks), the growing problems of Earth orbit congestion, and the increasing amount of space debris from devices launched into space. The article also presents the role of international organizations (such as the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer space) in making laws that are intended to observe and react to all changes necessary in the outer space environment and to be proactive to help outer space to be safe and secure for all mankind. The conclusion is, however, not optimistic. Space security is a sensitive issue, mainly during conflicts or wars. States are not inclined to bind themselves by international law in this matter. Thus, due to the absence of hard international law (treaties), bilateral and multilateral agreements as well as the best practices from countries that organize space flights must apply. Space monitoring systems, such as the Situational Awareness System (SSA), the code of conduct in space, the UN Long Term Sustainability, or the space Traffic Management rules are legal tools to manage the above challenges in space today.

Space Traffic Management (STM) is a new concept referring to space activities. The highest priority is the safety and security of outer space and all conducted operations. There is no definition of STM. There is an urgent need to regulate STM providing safety and security regulations at the international, regional, and national levels. Because there is no STM definition, the regulator might use the example of existing regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization on Air Traffic Management (ATM). European EUSST is a good example of being a “precursor” of STM. However, many questions are still open regarding specific regulations needed to create an STM system, such as at which level they should be made: globally, regionally, or nationally.

Today most teachers enter teaching by means of a one or two-year undergraduate program in education (B.Ed.). There is provision of in-service training for teachers to make teaching effective in bringing quality to education. Various in-service teacher training programs are organized by District Institutes of Educational Training and State Institute of Educational Management and Training under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan in Himachal Pradesh. Yet, the impact of the training has not been reflected in the classrooms for the last fifteen years. There is not optimum improvement in the academic achievement of students. It is necessary to make teaching enjoyable and flexible through various activities, small projects and ICT in the new era. Creative and experimental activities are very much needed in the teaching of mathematics and science subjects. These activities help in building student confidence and give students more opportunities of learning. ‘PRAYAS’ at the upper-primary level is one of the programs organized by the DIET Solan to professionally prepare in-service teachers for implementing it at the school level. The objective of the study was to study the impact of the ‘PRAYAS’ in-service training program in Science in the educational block Kandaghat block of district Solan of Himachal Pradesh. Three schools were conveniently selected, two Govt. Senior Secondary Schools Chail and Kalhog, and one Govt. High School, Sakori, of the concerned educational block. Data was collected with the use of a semi-structured interview and the observations were recorded. It was found in the study that students made models and activities on the topics of their textbooks under the ‘PRAYAS’ program with eco-friendly materials and waste materials, utilized where suited. In this way, students learnt to use waste materials in everyday life. The models and activities were very low cost and easy to handle and care. The students learnt and understood the concepts easily. The outcomes of the program are discussed in the paper, which will be beneficial for the educational planners and administrators and in-service teachers of the State.

As the popularity of cloud computing increases, safety concerns are growing as well. Cloud forensics (CF) is a smart adaptation of the digital forensics model that is used for fighting the related offenses. This paper proposes a new forensic method relying on a blockchain network. Here, the log files are accumulated and preserved in the blockchain using different peers. In order to protect the system against illegitimate users, an improved blowfish method is applied. In this particular instance, the system is made up of five distinct components: hypervisor (VMM), IPFS file storage, log ledger, node controller, and smart contract. The suggested approach includes six phases: creation of the log file, key setup and exchange, evidence setup and control, integrity assurance, agreement validation and confidential file release, as well as blockchain-based communication. To ensure efficient exchange of data exchange between the cloud provider and the client, the methodology comprises IPFS. The SSA (FOI-SSA) model, integrated with forensic operations, is used to select the keys in the best possible way. Finally, an analysis is conducted to prove the effectiveness of the proposed FOI-SSA technique.

The paper presents an application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) method for the environmental evaluation of the technologies for the fertilizers production. LCA has been used because it enables the most comprehensive identification, documentation and quantification of the potential impacts on the environment and the evaluation and comparison of all significant environmental aspects. The main objective of the study was to assess and compare two technologies for the production of phosphorus (P) fertilizers coming from primary and secondary sources. In order to calculate the potential environmental impact the IMPACT 2002+ method was used. The first part of the LCA included an inventory of all the materials used and emissions released by the system under investigation. In the following step, the inventory data were analyzed and aggregated in order to calculate one index representing the total environmental burden. In the scenario 1, fertilizers were produced with use of an integrated technology for the phosphorus recovery from sewage sludge ash (SSA) and P fertilizer production. Samples of SSA collected from two Polish mono-incineration plants were evaluated (Scenario 1a and Scenario 1b). In the scenario 2, P-based fertilizer (reference fertilizer – triple superphosphate) was produced from primary sources – phosphate rock. The results of the LCA showed that both processes contribute to a potential environmental impact. The overall results showed that the production process of P-based fertilizer affects the environment primarily through the use of the P raw materials. The specific results showed that the highest impact on the environment was obtained for the Scenario 2 (1.94899 Pt). Scenario 1a and 1b showed the environmental benefits associated with the avoiding of SSA storage and its emissions, reaching -1.3475 Pt and -3.82062 Pt, respectively. Comparing results of LCA of P-based fertilizer production from different waste streams, it was indicated that the better environmental performance was achieved in the scenario 1b, in which SSA had the higher content of P (52.5%) in the precipitate. In this case the lower amount of the energy and materials, including phosphoric acid, was needed for the production of fertilizer, calculated as 1 Mg P2O5. The results of the LCA may play a strategic role for the decision-makers in the aspect of searching and selection of the production and recovery technologies. By the environmental evaluation of different alternatives of P-based fertilizers it is possible to recognize and implement the most sustainable solutions.

Electronics switches commonly used in power electronics circuits are the part of the electronics system depending on energy efficiency, circuit topology, switching matrix design, interaction with filter elements, and many other parameters. For the first new switch design prototype to identify of electrical efficiency of the semiconductor switch working with a system, it is very important that estimation of the variables saves time, labor, and economical resources. In this study, the new algorithm is proposed and applied to circuit estimate efficiency of power electronics switches. The current-voltage-power capacities, switching rate, power losses, physical dimensions, heating levels of power electronics switches used in the circuit are investigated and algorithmically estimated according to the result of experimental performance switches.
