W pierwszej części artykułu badacz wykazuje, że biblioteki prywatne humanistów (w tym również badaczy literatury) wciąż nie stały się pełnoprawnym przedmiotem badań, oraz tłumaczy przyczyny takiego stanu rzeczy. Druga część artykułu to studium przypadku księgozbioru Stefana Szymutki, w którym przez analizę odnalezionych na marginesach książek zapisków, podkreśleń oraz fiszek z notatkami autor udowadnia, że różnego rodzaju przed-teksty czy „fakty miękkie” pozwalają znacząco poszerzyć wiedzę na temat literacko-naukowej działalności Szymutki.
In the first part of the article, I demonstrate that private libraries of scholars in the humanities (including literary scholars) have still not become legitimate objects of study and explain the reasons behind it. In the second part of the article, I analyze a case study: Stefan Szymutko’s book collection. The analysis of notes, marks and flashcards found on the margins of books demonstrates that various types of pre-texts and “soft facts” allow scholars to expand their knowledge about Szymutko as an academic, literary critic, and writer.

Opis:
The opinions of scholars about their own academic and literary achievements, their evaluation of the state of science and scientific writing as well as tips addressed to the young adepts of science are an important source of information about the history of science and scientific writing. While discussing the issue of a scientific book and the scientific publishing movement, such statements deserve closer attention of bibliologists. The article presents the views and recommendations of a prominent biologist Jan Tur (1875–1942) that concern writing and publishing scientific works and are included in his book Nauka i uczony (The science and a scholar). In the light of the condition of the contemporary movement of scientific publication, the scientist’s opinions from over 100 years ago on the necessity of writing productivity, languages and types of the scientific publication as well as collectivity of works become up-to-date and stimulate for discussion.

In this article I present the Roman Law scholars of the Jan Kazimierz University of Lwów and their travel abroad for the purposes of scholarship. Lwów’s scholars developed their knowledge and skills by working with prominent German, Austrian, French and Italian personalities in legal studies. The scholarships awarded by the Emperor Franz Joseph I Foundation (Fundacja im. Cesarza Franciszka Józefa I), the National Culture Fund (Fundusz Kultury Narodowej), and the Emil Parnas Foundation (Fundacja im. Emila Parnasa) helped them to further their education abroad. Leon Piniński and Marceli Chlamtacz, professors of the Jan Kazimierz University, studied abroad in the late 19th century. Leon Piniński went to universities in Leipzig, Berlin and Vienna, where he worked with Heinrich Dernburg and Bernhard Windscheid. Marceli Chlamtacz travelled to Vienna and Berlin, where he collaborated with Professors Franz Hofmann, Adolf Exler, and Alfred Pernice. Professor Wacław Osuchowski studied abroad in the early 1930s, first in Rome, and subsequently in Munich and Paris. The fourth of the scholars presented in the article, Dr. Edward Gintowt-Dziewałtowski, a research assistant in the Chair of Roman Law, spent four years in Vienna, Innsbruck, Rome, and Palermo in the 1930s.

Wspomnienie o Henryku Jurkowskim (1927–2016), historyku, teoretyku i krytyku teatru lalek. Jurkowski był także pedagogiem, dramaturgiem i redaktorem. W Polsce wznawiano jego trzytomowe Dzieje teatru lalek (PIW: Warszawa, 1970, 1976, 1984; wydanie II poprawione w dwóch tomach - Lublin, 2012). Za granicą ukazały się m.in.: Aspects of Puppet Theatre. Memory of Henryk Zdzisław Jurkowski (1927–2016), a puppet theatre historian, theorist and critic, pedagogue, dramatist, editor, and long-time Polish representative in UNIMA (Union Internationale de la Marionnette), officer of the Union’s governing bodies (i.e. member of the Presidium, later renamed as Executive Committee, 1959–1992; Secretary General, 1972–1980; Vice-President, 1980–1984; President, 1984–1992), the President of POLUNIMA (2007–2011). He authored hundreds of articles, essays, reviews and dozens of books published in more than dozen languages regarding the history and theory of puppet theatre and puppetry esthetic, including his three-volume Dzieje teatru lalek (‘A History of Puppet Theatre,’ PIW: Warszawa, 1970, 1976, 1984; revised 2nd edition in two volumes—Lublin, 2012), Aspects of Puppet Theatre. A collection of essays (Puppet Centre Trust: London, 1988), Ecrivains et marionnettes. The paper aims to study the work of Leon Petrazycki and analyze modern Ukrainian scholars’ opinions on Petrazycki’s scientific achievements. This study focuses on Petrazycki’s work, his psychological theory, in particular, in view of our own perspective on the law and within the framework of our theological and sociological theory, which considers the law as a social life phenomenon and regards moral imperative of the Almighty God as the basis of law. Every civilization communicates moral imperative through sacred writings (the Ten Commandments in Christian Bible, six hundred and seven rules in Jewish Torah, seventy-two rules in Muslim Quran). It is within the framework of this moral imperative that the society and the state develop the law. The paper addresses the modern absurdity and at the same time antinomy of law, lying in the fact that there is more and more law in the society but less and less law in life of an individual due to the fact that states rapidly upscale rulemaking, but laws are becoming less accessible to an individual. This study draws on conceptual issues of Petrazycki’s theoretical heritage, fundamental principles of his psychological theory, as well as connection between law and morality, described by Petrazycki, which are the spiritual heritage of society. The most important issues of Petrazycki’s work, in our opinion, are studying the nature of law, balance of emotion and intellect, official and intuitive, desirable and actual components in law, as well as subjective and objective law, law policy and power. The paper reveals that assessment of Petrazycki’s work in modern Ukrainian legal studies is ambivalent: from sharply critical (Prof. P. Rabinovich), compliant with Russian (O. Timoshina (St. Petersburg)) approach and critical yet positive perception of Petrazycki’s psychological theory (S. Maksymov, O. Merezhko, M. Kuz, O. Stovba) to admiration for Petrazycki’s genius, whose work was ahead of his time (I. Bezklubyi, N. Huralenko, V. Dudchenko, O. Rohach, M. Savchyn, V. Tymoshenko). Thus, the research findings suggest that Petrazycki’s work belongs not only to the past, but also to the present and future of jurisprudence, sociology, psychology, economics. Further in-depth analysis of Petrazycki’s heritage will contribute to more accurate diagnosis of urgent legal issues in social development of modern Ukraine, real assertion of personocentrism as a postulate of contemporary theoretical jurisprudence and guidelines for public authorities, as well as practical solution to many controversial scientific and legal issues.

Prescriptum zatytułowane Polonistyka nie tylko po polsku wyjaśnia genezę powstania wielojęzycznego numeru „Postscriptum Polonistycznego”, który wieńczy 30-lecie międzynarodowego charakteru czasopisma. 30 lat temu w piśmie – wtedy jeszcze będącym biuletynem Szkoły Języka i Kultury Polskiej Uniwersytetu Śląskiego – ukazał się pierwszy artykuł zagranicznej polonistki z Republiki Czeskiej, Haliny Klimszy. Niniejszy tekst bardzo krótko relacjonuje dzieje umiędzynarodowienia treściowego periodyku oraz etapy rozwoju, które doprowadziły do przekształcenia biuletynu w „pismo krajowych i zagranicznych polonistów” i do ostatnich decyzji redakcji o dopuszczeniu publikacji także w języku angielskim. Prescriptum stanowi objaśnienie motywacji stworzenia niniejszego numeru jako zbioru polonistycznych tekstów w językach ojczystych/pierwszych autorów-polonistów zagranicznych. Chcieliśmy i chcemy, by wiedza o interesujących zjawiskach i badaniach polskich i polonistycznych dotarła także do osób ciekawych świata, które w różnych krajach z powodu bariery językowej nie mogłyby jej nabyć. Pamiętamy też o młodym pokoleniu polonijnym, które nie zawsze już zna język przodków.
The Prescriptum entitled Polonistyka nie tyko po polsku [Polish Studies not only in Polish] explains the origin of the multilingual issue of “Postscriptum Polonistyczne” that crowns the 30th anniversary of the periodical as an international publication. It was thirty years ago, in fact, that the journal, back then still a newsletter of the School of Polish Language and Culture at the University of Silesia, featured the first article by a foreign Polish studies scholar, Halina Klimsza from the Czech Republic. This text provides a very brief historical account of how the periodical became internationalised, describing the stages of its development that led to the transformation from a newsletter to a “journal of Polish and foreign Polish studies scholars”, and reporting on the editors’ most recent decisions to accept papers for publication also in the English language. The Prescriptum explains the motivation for creating this issue as a collection of Polish studies texts in the native/first languages of the foreign Polish studies scholars who wrote them. We wanted and still want to make sure that knowledge about interesting phenomena and research from Poland and in the field of Polish studies can reach all those who are curious about the world and who would otherwise not be able to obtain such information in their respective countries due to the language barrier. Moreover, we keep in mind young members of the Polish diaspora, who do not always understand the language of their ancestors.

The paper describes the debates which took place during the 4th Annual CEENELS Conference (Moscow, 14–15 June 2019). The aim of the conference was to analyse the issue of legal innovativeness in Central and Eastern Europe, the topic which was chosen as a continuation of previous CEENELS conferences. The organizers wanted to challenge the widespread belief that the legal culture of Central and Eastern Europe lacks original and innovative concepts and ideas. Even if the conference did not bring a definitive answer about the character of Central and Eastern European countries’ legal culture, it showed that the region is not only a territory of legal transplants and reception of legal ideas, concepts and institutions, created in Western Europe or the US.
Artykuł opisuje dyskusje, które miały miejsce podczas IV Konferencji CEENELS (Moskwa, 14–15 czerwca  2019). Celem konferencji była analiza zagadnienia innowacyjności w zakresie prawa w Europie Środkowo-Wschodniej. Temat ten został wybrany jako kontynuacja poprzednich konferencji CEENELS. Organizatorzy chcieli podważyć powszechne przekonanie, że w kulturze prawnej Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej brakuje oryginalnych oraz nowatorskich koncepcji i pomysłów. Nawet jeśli konferencja nie przyniosła definitywnej odpowiedzi na temat charakteru kultury prawnej krajów Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej, to pokazała, że region ten jest nie tylko terytorium przeszczepów prawnych i recepcji idei, koncepcji i instytucji prawnych, tworzonych w Europie Zachodniej lub USA.

The paper will attempt to provide an ethical reflection upon abuses by a thesis supervisor that may occur in interpersonal relationships between a student and his or her supervisor. The sociology of the Second Polish Republic (1918–1939) is presented as a tradition – a part of the heritage that is positively evaluated and transmitted from generation to generation. The tradition of sociology in Poland dates back to the partition period; it developed in the interwar period of independence and was tested during the Second World War and subsequently in communist times. The basic elements of the tradition are identified in the article and illustrated by the life and work of leading Polish sociologists of the pre-war period.

A memoir about Professor Irena Sławińska (1913-2004), a scholar of drama and theater affiliated with the Catholic University of Lublin for several decades. The author presents Sławińska's curriculum vitae and briefly outlines the academic and artistic experiences that shaped her in Vilnius (until 1945), Toruń (1945–1949), Warsaw (1949–1950), and Lublin (1950–2004). She lists the scholar's numerous areas of dramatological and theatrical research, the functions she held in Polish and foreign academic societies and institutions, and discusses her cooperation with foreign universities. She also comments on Sławińska's translating and artistic activities. She describes a profile of the school of theater studies created by the scholar in Lublin and enumerates her students who developed the currents of research she initiated or carried out artistic and publishing activities.

Ernst (-Hartwig) Kantorowicz, born in Poznań (then Germany) in 1895, died in Princeton in 1963, is one of the most distinguished and influential historians (mediaevalists) of the 20th century. A descendent of an affluent Jewish-German (totally naturalized) family, after the rebirth of the Polish state in 1918 moved together with the family to Germany, took part in the World War I, struggled against the Polish insurgents and against the communists in Berlin and Munich, studied a.o. in Heidelberg, where he joined the famous Stefan George circle. After publishing the monograph on Emperor Frederick the Second (1927-1931) he have been callingas professor in Frankfurt a.M., as consequence to the decisions of the Nazi-government he retired in 1933/1934 and eventually in 1938 emigrated to Great Britain and finally to the USA, where (first in Berkeley Ca., then in Princeton) he lived and worked until his death. Besides his fundamental monographs and studies on the medieval political liturgy (Laudes regiae 1946) and the political theology (The Kings’ Two Bodies 1957), his life was characterized by an extraordinary stable opinion and the determination to defend it, as was proved first in 1933 in Nazi- Germany and the second time in Berkeley in 1949 (during the s.c. Loyalty Oath Controversion). This article is an abbreviated and partially changed version of the introduction to the Polish translation of the main work by Kantorowicz (The King’s Two Bodies), to appear in this year.

This article aims to trace the mobility of scholars and sciences between France and Bohemia, Hungary, and Poland in the 14th and 15th centuries, seen from the perspective of prosopography.These exchanges were concentrated in only three oldest French universities of Montpellier, Orléans and Paris, albeit with significant variations, and in the newly-founded universities north of the Alps in the 14th century, namely those in Prague and Kraków.Mobility was less important and intensive at the end of the Middle Ages because of the policy in favour of establishing national universities.The names of 143 scholars from Bohemia, Hungary, and Poland, who were enrolled in the 14th and 15th centuries in French universities, have been found so far. Several of them played important roles in the history of science in these countries.
Artykuł ten ma na celu prześledzenie mobilności naukowców i nauk między Francją a Czechami, Węgrami i Polską w XIV i XV wieku, widzianej z perspektywy prozopografii.Wymiana ta koncentruje się tylko na trzech najstarszych francuskich uniwersytetach w Montpellier, Orleanie i Paryżu, jednak ze znacznymi różnicami, oraz na nowo powstałych w XIV wieku uniwersytetach na północ od Alp, mianowicie w Pradze i Krakowie.Mobilność ta była mniej ważna i intensywna pod koniec średniowiecza, ponieważ prowadzono politykę na rzecz uniwersytetów krajowych.Do tej pory znaleziono nazwiska 143 uczonych z Czech, Węgier i Polski, którzy zapisali się w XIV i XV wieku na uniwersytety francuskie. Kilka z nich odegrało ważną rolę w historii nauki w tych krajach.

At the turn of the 16th century due to variety of reasons related to the socio-political, educational, and religious situation in Hungary, relatively many natives from the area of today's Slovakia lived and permanently worked in Bohemia and Moravia. These were mostly Protestant scholars, writing and publishing their work in Bohemia. Due to the authors' origin, their works are also considered to be related to Slovakia. This paper illustrates the circumstances of the Slovaks' activity in Bohemia, and selectively presents the inspiration sources (the ancient sources, the Bible, the Renaissance authors) that these scholars used in their work, published largely in Bohemia or intended primarily for the Bohemian market and audience. It also reflects on societal, cultural, religious, and philosophical trends of Humanism.
