Opis:
The possibility of examining rock pore structure by the means of computed X-ray microtomography was presented. Parameters characterizing the pore structure, such as: porosity and coefficient of homogeneity of pore structure by local porosity examination, box counting dimension, mean chord length, normalized Euler number, as well as coordination number were all determined through pore structure image analyses. Complementary methods, such as helium pycnometry, mercury injection capillary pressure and NMR were used to determine the porosity along with other factors to make the comparison and determine mutual relationships between petrophysical properties obtained from various sources. The study covered the Rotliegend sandstones of eolian origin. Laboratory investigation of the reservoir properties was focused on three areas, according to their geological regions, where the Rotliegend sediments showed changeability in geological features and reservoir properties. Computed X-ray microtomography showed differentiation between the investigated areas, with respect to their pore structure and porosity development. This differentiation was confirmed by means of other applied laboratory methods.

Opis:
Within the framework of the Operational Programme Innovative Economy 2007-2013, studies were carried out for improving the effectiveness of using seismic surveys in the prospecting and exploration of gas fields in the Rotliegend formation. The completed experimental seismic surveys provided new, very interesting data on the geological structure of the deeper part of the Rotliegend basin (>4000 m), which is practically very important for prospecting for new gas fields. The interesting results were obtained along virtually the entire cross-section, particularly in two segments: the southern segment – in front of and within the Człopa-Szamotuły tectonic zone (the Szczecin-Gorzów segment) and the northern segment – in the area of the Zabartowo-1 and Zabartowo-2 wells (the Pomeranian segment). In the northern segment, for the first time in the history of studies of the Lower Permian Basin, it was possible to record reflections from the horizon of the aeolian sandstones occurring within the playa silty-clayey deposits (543 m below the top of the Rotliegend formation), which represents a significant achievement from the point of view of prospecting for hydrocarbon resources. This horizon, characterized by favourable reservoir properties, pinches out northward. It is a very important piece of information because systems oflithologic traps may be related to such pinchouts. In the central part of the Obrzycko-Zabartowo profile, in the Chodzież area, a vast structural elevation occurs, approximately 10–12 km wide and with the amplitude of 250–300 m, which may be a potential large structural or structural and lithologic trap. These newly discovered zones of occurrence of gas traps in the seismic profiles made by the AGH University of Science and Technology within the framework of the research project, will be implemented in a detailed seismic exploration during the exploratory work of Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG SA).

Opis:
Here we describe new material of tetrapod tracks and swimming traces from the Konberg quarry, a tracksite of the late middle Permian Hornburg Formation in Saxony-Anhalt, central Germany. A relatively well-preserved trackway and several isolated imprints are assigned to Capitosauroides isp. Among others, toe proportions in the manus and pes footprints of the newly described specimens and the long, proximal and detached pedal digit V imprint are similar to the type ichnospecies Capitosauroides bernburgensis from the Early Triassic of Bernburg, Saxony-Anhalt. In these features the new Konberg material differs from other ichnotaxa, such as Amphisauropus and Varanopus, which may look similar in their relative length of the sole, digit proportions and/or in the digit tip imprint morphology. The comparatively large manus imprint, which is wider than long, the relative length and shape of the sole impression, the digit proportions that are indicative for a more ectaxonic manus a more mesaxonic pes, the low pace angulation and the low imprint-size-normalized stride length in the Konberg track type are distinct from C. bernburgensis. It shares, however, a certain similarity with recently described material of Capitosauroides from middle-late Permian tracksites. These observations are in agreement with the results of a multivariate analysis including Capitosauroides and morphologically similar ichnotaxa. Our findings would justify the erection of a new ichnospecies if more trackways with a similar or slightly better preservation were at hand. Hornburg Formation material previously assigned to Amphisauropus is herein considered as indetermined tetrapod tracks, whereas the oc-currence of Dromopus isp. is confirmed. This reassignment shortens the stratigraphic range of the ichnogenus Amphisauropus, which appears to be restricted to the early Permian, since younger occurrences are questionable. In agreement with the attribution of Capitosauroides to eutheriodont producers, we regard the Konberg material assigned to this ichnogenus as tracks of small and possibly semi-aquatic therapsids. Abundant tetrapod swimming traces that co-occur with Capitosauroides isp. on the same bedding planes are interpreted as having been made by the same group of producers. The subaquatic traces often consist of short parallel claw mark sets. In agreement with a derived amniote producer group, they indicate propulsion by parasagittal limb movement rather than axial undulation.

Opis:
The Flow Zone Index, FZI, applied to order relations between the effective porosity and permeability of the Rotliegend sandstones in the Polish part of the Southern Permian Basin turns out to be a useful and effective factor to evaluate ability of media flow in a rock formation. A dataset of over 2000 samples from 78 wells was analysed. Based only on porosity and permeability, FZI includes all non-parameterized features of rocks as tortuosity and diameters of porous channels, volume of trapped parts of capillary roads, specific surface of pore space, and others. When FZI increases, the ability of fluid to move through the porous space increases. In most cases, the Rotliegend sandstones reveal FZI in the range of 0.5-2.0. The highest FZI, ca. 100, is related to fractured part of the studied formation. The combination of FZI and facies information from several wells in the study area (over 1200 samples) showed a good correlation. On the basis of FZI we can divide a set of samples of the Rotliegend sandstone into groups of defined fluid flow abilities and relate them to facies. Also, we show the way of estimation of the reliable values of permeability in full geological log of a borehole on the basis of FZI, and the total porosity determined from well logging interpretation.

Opis:
Natural gas in the Polish Rotliegend Basin occurs in porous and permeable aeolian sandstones, and traps are mostly structural. Lithological traps are rare and occur on the northern slope of the Wolsztyn Ridge where fluvial and aeolian sandstones overlap with alluvial facies. Both fluvial and aeolian sandstones are reservoir rocks in this area. The X-ray micro computed tomography (MCT) results and microscopic observations indicate that the sandstones in lithologic traps on the northern slope of the Wolsztyn Ridge form highly compartmentalized vertical reservoir rocks composed of four types of sandstones. The profiles are dominated by very low-porosity fluvial sandstones (F2), and low-porosity aeolian and fluvial sandstones (A2, F1). The A1 type of sandstones with high porosity (10%) occurs only in some sections of the profiles. The most important diagenetic processes that reduced porosity were compaction and cementation by carbonate cements. All studied sandstones were subjected to the same diagenetic processes. However, each of the processes ran with varying intensity in different types of sandstones. Detailed analyses of pore distribution by MCT methods with respect to primary depositional or lithofacies effects, and secondary diagenetic effects, help to understand the 3D geometry of pores and pore shape-size distributions. The results can be used in the studies of other sandstones with a different origin and age.

Opis:
Wykonane do chwili obecnej modelowania statyczne i dynamiczne, potwierdziły możliwość składowania w omawianej megastrukturze kilkuset mln ton CO2.
Rotliegend geology of the Poznań Basin, being part of the Polish Permian Basin, provides favourable conditions for large-scale CO2 storage. The Rotliegend deposits of significant thickness and advantageous petrophysical parameters, where the pore space is filled by brine, form a mega-structure sealed at the top by a thick unit of Zechstein evaporites. The quality of these seals is confirmed by the existence of several gas fields, originated in relatively small geomorphological traps. In turn, integrity of peripheral parts of the storage complex in the Poznań Basin is proven by the presence of gas fields originated as stratigraphic (upslope thinning reservoir lithofacies) or digenetic (decreasing reservoir conditions) gas traps. In addition, this large aquifer is saturated by natural gas, dissolved in highly mineralized brines, up to the maximum saturation phase. The majority of gas fields are depleted, but surface infrastructure has remained, especially gas pipeline systems, which can be used for transferring sequestrated CO2, for example, from Poznań agglomeration. Static and dynamic modeling has proved the possibility of storage of several hundred million metric tons of CO2 in this mega-structure.

Withinaframe of the research project on Rotliegend tight gas, a data base comprising 760 full sets of reservoir and permeability parameters was created. Data from 55 wells were collected from interval of 1650-5003 m. The obtained results showed presence of clastic reservoirs sufficient for formation of "tight gas" type deposits in each of the analyzed wells. In most of the wells, reservoir rock series with non-zero permeability were detected. Parameters of pore space suggest the major role of compaction processes in pore space evolution, except for some areas where cementation processes were predominating. A high-permeability anomaly characterizing a separate group of eolian sandstones from the depths of over 4000 m anomaly may be explained as due to presence of pseudo- and micro-fractures.

Opis:
The paper considers the potential for new discoveries of gas accumulations in the Rotliegend Basin on the basis of the analysis of reservoir and hydrochemical tests and the results of reservoir simulations. Several reservoir simulations carried out in the study area (history of production and history matching) demonstrate the regional migration of reservoir waters. The integration of the simulations with mathematical calculations (in consistency with Hubbert’s theory) and with hydrochemical results permits recognition of the regional hydrody- namics and the potential localization of gas fields. In an analysis of the current hydrodynamic and hydrochemical conditions of reservoir waters in the Rotliegend (Lower Permian) strata, attention was focused on part of the sedi- mentary Rotliegend Basin, located south of the Wolsztyn-Pogorzela High, utilizing materials available from drilling and noting the differences between this area and the northern sub-basin. The current hydrogeological conditions and the dynamics of fluid transfer in the Rotliegend Basin are an effect of structural rearrangement during the Laramide orogeny. The basin hypsometry, resulting from the Laramide movements, became the decisive factor that controlled the filtration of groundwater. The recent hydrodynamic characteristics of migrating reservoir waters are reflected in the P-T (fluid pressure and temperature gradient) distribution pattern. Hence, the analysis of this distribution may reveal reactions that have taken place over time. It must be emphasized that clusters of gas fields are located in the zones occupied by stagnant groundwater (rNa/rCl<0.75) under hydrostatic (or slightly higher) pressure.

Analysis of the porosity-depth, permeability-depth, and permeability-porosity relationships, as well as the parameter of reservoir potential RQ (result of relationship porosity v. permeability) of in the Upper Rotliegend sandstones of fluvial and aeolian origin and also of shallow marine (Weissliegend) sandstones from the Zielona Góra Basin in western Poland discussed in relation to the sedimentary settings, coupled with microscopic observations, have indicated that the most important factor determining the reservoir properties is cementation and/or matrix content in the pore space. The map of the mean distribution of the reservoir potential RQ for the topmost 50 metres of the Rotliegend have indicated a patchy distribution of zones with the highest and lowest reservoir potential in the central part of the basin, which is controlled mainly by the amount of carbonate, sulphate and illite cements in the pore space. Compaction had a minor influence on the presently noted reservoir properties, particularly in poorly-cemented sandstones.
